Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Kyle Wedderspoon of Morris for Sex Offender Failure to Notify of Address Change within 10 days following a complaint received in Morris. Deputies were notified that Wedderspoon was no longer living at his registered address, he is a Level 1 Sex Offender, he had been living at a residence in the Town of Otego and failed to make proper notifications of his address change, he was taken into custody and processed at the Sheriff’s Office, he was released with an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at 57 Maple Street Saturday morning, 1st floor residents and visitors were able to leave the house safely, the 2nd floor apartments were under construction, the 1st floor apartment suffered water damage from fire operations, The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Mutual aid was provided by Otego, West Oneonta and Franklin fire departments. no injuries were reported.

State Police arrested 52 year old Lawrence Slater of Norwich, after a Chenango County Grand Jury indictment. Slater was operating a vehicle on April 12th and crashed into an on-coming vehicle driven by 62 year old Steven Biviano of Oxford, who was pronounced dead at the scene, on State Highway 12 in the town of Oxford. Slater was operating the vehicle with a BAC of .18%, he was charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, Felony DWI & Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, he was was arraigned in Chenango County Supreme Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail, or $50,000 bond.

On July 8, 2023, Loup pulled up at 4 Filmore Avenue in Endicott where Aaron LeGare, and others were playing cards, LaGare approached Loup’s vehicle, an argument ensued & Loup shot LaGare in the chest & fled the scene.

Hubbell admitted to possessing over 500 milligrams of cocaine on January 8th in the Town of Roxbury, she faces up to 2 ½ years in state prison, Sentencing is set for June 17th.

Last September, a Delaware County Grand Jury indicted Evans, he pleaded guilty to the Forged Instrument charge, he will serve 1 to 3 years in prison.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's auditors found that New York state bought hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that now sits unused in storage facilities. To compete for the purchase of the medical equipment at the start of the pandemic, Then Governor Cuomo took emergency steps to accelerate the procurement process, inconsistent with Office of General Services guidance. DiNapoli's auditors determined the state paid $452.8 million to purchase 247,343 Medical items & machines, only 324 of those items were distributed, the audit recommends that the state distribute the items to hospitals & medical providers who may be able to use them, and stop paying for excessive storage fees for those items.

State Police at Deposit responded Thursday to a fatal crash in the 4100 block of State Route 26 in the town of Nanticoke. Troopers, Maine Ambulance and Glen Aubrey Fire Department found that a Ford pick-up that had crashed, with the driver pinned underneath the tire. It was determined that the driver was already deceased by the time the first responders arrived. The driver is identified as 22 year old Sethe Menta of Lisle, Members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Collision Reconstruction Unit also responded to the scene.
Walton Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a structure fire in the Town of Walton. The call came in as a chimney fire with the homeowner concerned that it had extended into the wall behind the wood stove as there was black smoke and the sound of fire within the walls. At 4:45 pm the homeowner reported seeing flames upstairs and was unsure if it was coming from walls or chimney. Sidney Center and Trout Creek departments were moved from their station to the scene and Franklin Fire Dept was requested for a tanker. By 5:17 the fire was reported under control with units checking for extension and doing overhaul work. No injuries were reported.

27 year old Alison Ward of Randolph, New Jersey appeared in the Town of Colchester and pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated, Ward was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge, she will have to attend a Victim Impact Panel, complete an Impaired Driver Program, her license was revoked for 6 months, and an ignition interlock device will have to be installed on any vehicle she drives for a minimum of one year, if she violates the terms she could be re-sentenced to 1 year in jail. On July 14, 2023, Ward was pulled over by Town of Colchester Police after she crossed the double yellow line on State Highway 206, nearly striking a pickup truck head on, she failed Field Sobriety Tests at the scene.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old David Zimmer of Whitney Point following a high speed chase from Binghamton, onto I-88 into the Town of Fenton. on Tuesday,, a traffic stop was attempted on Zimmer, who's vehicle matched the description from an incident in Johnson city earlier. Zimmer was eventually stopped when his vehicle became disabled from a spike strip deployed by deputies & State Troopers. Zimmer faces 2 felony charges, 4 misdemeanors and 31 traffic violations following the high-speed pursuit, he was taken into custody, K9 units found cocaine in Zimmer's Vehicle, he was arraigned at & remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

State Police issued a total of 9,984 tickets statewide during the annual DWI Halloween Enforcement campaign which started on Thursday, October 31, 2024, and continued through Sunday, November 3, 2024. State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices. Troopers arrested 176 people for DWI and investigated 964 accidents, which resulted in three fatalities. Troopers issued almost 3600 tickets for speeding, Troop C had 678 total tickets during the initiative.
A Veterans Day Ceremony sponsored by the Gilbertsville Legion Auxiliary will be held on Sunday, the ceremony begins at 2:00 PM at the Grange Hall in Gilbertsville, it is open to the public.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a Chimney Fire at 9 Ceperley Avenue in Oneonta early this morning. The Fire was reported shortly before 4:30 AM this morning, with fire on the 1st & 2nd floor, coming through the roof, mutual aid was received by the Oneonta Fire Department from West Oneonta, Worcester, Sidney, Franklin, Milford, Laurens & Otego, at about 5:30 AM, the Fire knocked down, the investigation into the cause of the fire in ongoing.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office added 2 new deputies following their graduation from the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. Deputies Tanner Franklin and Michael Smith completed the Basic Police Academy program, followed by a six-week field training course, prior to last Friday's Ceremony.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received information last month that firearms had been turned over from 45 yr-old George Coulter to a third party for safe keeping. It was discovered during the course of the investigation that one of those firearms was a semi-automatic pistol & that Coulter did not possess a valid State Pistol permit. All firearms and one pistol were secured by Delaware County Sheriff Deputies, Coulter was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, he was released on an appearance ticket, returnable at a later date to the Franklin Town Court.

State Police responded Saturday Afternoon to a report of a single car crash with entrapment in the town of Franklin. 74 year old Gjeto Vulaj of Delhi was traveling south on County Highway 16 in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, he went off the road into a ditch and his vehicle became engulfed in flames. Vulaj was trapped in the vehicle when a family member who was traveling behind him and another citizen attempted to remove him from the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. Vulaj was ultimately extricated by fire personnel from Franklin and Treadwell Fire Departments. He was transported to A.O Fox Hospital but did not survive. The family member who attempted to free Vulaj suffered smoke inhalation and burns. The investigation is continuing.

Deputies assisted State Parole Officers with conducting a home visit at the Delaware County homeless shelter in Bloomville, where it was determined that the parolee was not at the residence and was violating his terms with parole, a vehicle was observed passing by with the parolee inside and a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies & K9 Dexter determined that both occupants were in possession of fentanyl, they were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance & were released on appearance tickets to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment following an investigation in to reported on-going child abuse in the Town of Pittsfield. Investigation revealed that Melius allegedly subjected minors to physical abuse & for intentionally kill a kitten with a baseball bat. Melius was located Wednesday and was taken in to custody, and was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action, an order of Protection was requested to be issued on behalf of the victims.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 20 year old Timothy Taylor of Starlight Pennsylvania, formerly of Franklin last year for the charge of Endanger the Welfare of a Child and Sexual Misconduct. On September 27th, 2023, the Town of Hancock Court had issued an Bench Warrant for Timothy Taylor for Failing to Appear for a scheduled Court hearing. On December 31st, the Delaware County was contacted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s office that they had taken Taylor in custody on unrelated charges. Taylor was turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff Deputies where he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await the Centralized Arrangement Process.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Cody Amidon of Sherburne for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell & Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia, after conducting a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for an equipment violation, in the Town of Norwich. Amidon had a backpack containing methamphetamine, a digital scale, and packaging materials, He will appear in the Town of Norwich court at a later date.

NYSEG is reporting over 3000 customers without power this afternoon, following the heavy wet snow over the region. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Most of the power outages were in the Middle & Eastern townships in Delaware County.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to motor vehicle complaint in the Town of Davenport November 26th, Deputies learned that a vehicle had been stolen, damaged and return to the owner’s residence. Later that day Sheriff's Deputies located where the vehicle had been involved in a property damage accident. Deputies determined that owner 23-year-old Hector Padilla of Davenport had made a false report and was the operator of the vehicle when it was involved in the accident. Deputies charged Padilla with 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 1 count of Obstructing Governmental Administration & 1 count of Falsely Reporting an Incident, he was issued appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.

The Unadilla Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on Kilkenny Road, at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Additional personnel were called in from Franklin, Wells Bridge, and Sidney Fire departments, it took approximately 25 minutes to get the fire knocked down.

21 year old Patrick Dai of Pittsford, and Cornell University, was arrested Tuesday on a federal criminal complaint charging him with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications. Dai is accused of posting messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion site, where he allegedly called for the deaths of Jewish people and a post threatening to shoot up 104 west, which is a Cornell University kosher dining hall located next to the Cornell Jewish Center. The charge filed against Dai carries a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. Dai is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending court action in a federal court in Syracuse.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the victim killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Monday. 17 year old Makai Wilkinson of Harpursville was driving a pickup truck with 2 passengers on Welton Street in the Town of Colesville when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. 30 year old Terrence Mewborn pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, in Delaware County Court. On July 2, 2022, Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident with a rollover in the Town of Franklin, several of the passengers were injured and required hospitalization. Deputies found narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a semi-automatic handgun, Mewborn was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, along with several other criminal charges, he entered a plea of guilty, he admitted the handgun was his, and that he did not have a pistol permit, it is anticipated that Mewborn will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Brandon Cullipher Of Plymouth On May 31, for DWI, Driving with a .08% BAC or Greater, and Aggravated DWI for driving while a child under the age of 16 is in a motor vehicle. The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 34 year old Bayso Vannavongso pleaded guilty to 3 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, he admitted that on July 26, 2022, he illegally possessed a loaded .38 revolver, a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle, in the Town of Binghamton. Police responded to the Vestal Hills Country Club in the Town of Binghamton to a report of a man shot with a crossbow. Vannavongsa was shot by Carson Vanco after a dispute, where Vannavongsa fired shots at Vanco from the revolver but missed, he recovered from being shot with the arrow.
Tickets are still available for the raffle of a 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible, from the Northeast Classic Car Museum. Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 61 year old Fredrick Hallstead of McDonough for Criminal Mischief and Harassment. Deputies responded on March 12th, in the Town of Walton for a Domestic Incident in progress, where Hallstead is accused of making physical contact with a female victim, in an effort to prevent her from calling 911. Deputies subsequently located Hallstead recently and issued a summons to appear at Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Deputies were dispatched to a Burglary Report in the Town of Stamford, between the dates of February 23rd and March 8th, someone had forced entry into a residence and intentionally damaged property, Deputies recovered evidence which was sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Deputies later received a positive DNA match with Oakley, an arrest warrant was issued & Oakley was located & was taken into custody last week, Oakley was arraigned in the Town of Middletown Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 in secured bond.
The Delaware County Department of Public Works will be closing County Route 16 in the Town of Delhi to through traffic beginning at 7:00 This morning to replace a culvert pipe between the two intersections with Fleming Road. On Wednesday, the road will be closed in the Town of Franklin between the northern intersection with Fleming Road and Douglas Hall Road. The traveling public should seek alternate routes.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 50 year old Brett Conklin of Walton was convicted for DWI In Tompkins Town Court. Conklin was arrested last November after a 1 vehicle crash, where registered a BAC of .14. Conklin was ordered to pay $900 in fees and fines, he was sentenced to a 1 year conditional discharge, he must install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns & he must attend a victims impact panel & an impaired Drivers program.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, and local Police agencies, arrested 32 year old Cody Dickson of the Town of Maine man on 17 charges. The Task Force executed a search warrant at 383 Kolb Road, they seized over $10,000 in methamphetamine, plus weapons, high capacity magazines and ammunition. Dickson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, plus Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Dickson faces court action shortly.
Walton Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a structure fire at 3664 East Brook Road. Firefighters found that the garage was fully engulfed, and had spread to a nearby house mutual aid was requested from Delhi, Franklin, and Treadwell firefighters, The occupants escaped, 1 cat died from the blaze. Walton Firefighters returned Monday morning to extinguish hot spots. The house and garage were a total loss. A pellet stove is believed to have started the fire, which has been ruled as accidental.

State Police were dispatched Wednesday to check the welfare of a 34-year-old man at a residence on Savitch Road in the town of Chenango. Troopers made contact with the man, who was suffering from a mental health issue and made threats to harm himself. State Police & other First Responders responded, After hours of tactical negotiations, the man exited his residence and was taken into custody without any injuries. He was evaluated by members of Chenango Ambulance Services and was scheduled to receive a mental health evaluation.

On May 28th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a 1 vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Franklin. The investigation revealed that 18 year old William Mettler of Franklin was the driver of the vehicle, he was taken to a hospital, where Deputies secured a blood test to determine Mettler's blood alcohol content, Mettler also had a suspended driver’s license. Last Week, Deputies arrested Mettler for Driving with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as other traffic violations, he will appear before the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

State Police responded early Saturday Morning to a 1-vehicle crash on Shacktown Mountain Road in the town of Pittsfield. Troopers discovered that a vehicle exited the roadway, went down an embankment and struck trees, a 22-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased on scene. Delaware County DPW announced the closure of county Route 37 in the town of Middletown to through traffic starting at 7:00 AM on Monday July 25. Crews will be performing a slope stabilization project, the closure will be between Main Street and Breezy Hill Road, work is expected to be completed by the end of August. The investigation revealed that a 79-year-old woman was traveling east on State Route 23 when she crossed over the double yellow line into the opposite lane of traffic, she struck a Curtis Lumber flatbed truck, which unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the crash. The woman was pronounced deceased on scene, her name will be released following the notification of family, The driver of the flatbed was taken to Bassett Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

The Tri Town Theater is looking for volunteers to help out Sunday, with a clean up project at their storage barn at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge. Interested volunteers can show up at 10: AM Sunday at the barn near the baseball field, more information is available at 607-287-1288.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office have arrested 29 year old Victor Grandel of Brooklyn. Deputies responded July 2nd to an accident scene on County Route 21 in Franklin, where the vehicle had been reported stolen out of New York City in June, a search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia, a loaded firearm, and cash. 3 individuals occupying the vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, Grandel was taken into custody by Deputies and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance. Arrest warrants were issued for the other 2 occupants of the vehicle.
State Police reported that 6-year-old Onnex Thompson-Hall was found dead at around 6:40 Sunday evening. Police said that the boy was autistic, and his body was in a pond not far from his home in Washington County. Investigators believe the death to be an accidental drowning, the boy was reported missing late Sunday morning, the investigation is continuing.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 58-year-old Dale Beach of Franklin for criminal mischief for an incident last month. Beach is accused of damaging a vehicle by throwing rocks at it in the town of Otego, he was arrested and faces court action shortly.

State Police responded Thursday to a motorcycle crash on State Highway 8 in the town of Masonville. 54 year old Joseph Beers of Sidney was traveling south on State Highway 8 when he left the roadway and struck a guide-rail. Beers was transported to AO Fox Hospital's Tri-Town Campus in Sidney, where he was pronounced dead.

STATE POLICE at Troop C announced that 1 person was arrested during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County on Wednesday. Alcohol was sold to a minor at Smiley’s Convenience Store located at West Main Street, Sidney, an appearance ticket was issued to the clerk who sold alcohol to the minor. Several other businesses in Sidney, Walton, Franklin & Delhi were in compliance.

The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 47 year old Lance Johnson of Binghamton was found guilty on all counts in Broome County Court Thursday, for the fatal shooting of Alison Salisbury of Binghamton and for the shooting of Shannon Brooks of Conklin, on August 7, 2020. Johnson will be sentenced on October 7th.

State Police arrested 6 people, for allegedly possessing guns and illegal magazines that are not compliant with the New York SAFE Act.
