Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in the Village of Walton on March 26th, 25-year-old Jonathan Stein had left prior to patrols arrival, he is accused of damaging property of the female victim. On March 30th, 2022 Deputies were contacted by Walton Police that they had Stein under arrest on unrelated charges. Deputies took custody of Stein, he was charged with 6 counts of Criminal Mischief, he was processed and released on appearance tickets and is to appear in the Village of Walton Court at a later date.
Volunteer fire departments across New York will open their doors on Saturday, April 23rd, and Sunday, April 24th as part of the 13th annual RecruitNY weekend. The Unadilla Fire Department will participate on both days as they need to add to their ranks, according to Spokesman Jeremy Johnson:

CDO Workforce in Norwich is offering free in person training to support job seekers efforts in getting employment. the 4 day "Job Jump Start" training series will begin Monday April 11th through Thursday April 14th at the Norwich CDO Workforce facility at 1 O'Hara Drive, to register for the training, call 334-2201.
Sidney Police investigated the theft of tools and construction equipment from a local business last month. Surveillance cameras helped police in identifying the person responsible, & an arrest warrant was issued for 37 year old Peter Puglisi of Afton. On Monday, Sidney Police located Puglisi, he was taken into custody and charged with Petty Larceny, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & he was released to appear back in court at a later date.
The Otsego County Department of Health will be offering an Additional Booster Dose Vaccination Clinic at the Otsego Meadows Complex on April 18th. A Registration link can be found on the Otsego County Department of Health webpage. Those eligible include anyone age 12 and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised, they may choose to receive a second booster dose at least 4 months after the first booster dose, also all adults 50 and older regardless of health status may choose to receive a 2nd booster dose, also 4 months after the first booster dose. Deputies charged Stein with Unlawful Imprisonment, Menacing, and Reckless Endangerment, he was released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi Court on a later date.

The State Department of Labor reported that the number of private sector jobs in the Sate increased over the month by 39,800, or 0.5%, to 7,888,300 in February. The State's unemployment rate decreased from 5.3% to 4.9% in February.
This Week is National Poison Prevention Week, the State Division of Consumer Protection is reminding New Yorkers of prevention measures to reduce the risk of poisoning. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's Annual Report on Pediatric Poisoning Fatalities and Injuries pediatric poisonings involving children under 5 years of age resulted in 43 fatalities in 2020, a 26 percent increase from 2019. Consumers can file a complaint with the Division of Consumer Protection at dos.ny.gov, more information about household poisons is available by calling 800-697-1220.

227 new Troopers were honored for their perseverance and dedication in completing the 210th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy during graduation exercises at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York. Over 50 of the new troopers will be assigned to Troop C in Sidney.
The city of Oneonta announced plans to close West Street between Chestnut and Center streets for 5 months, for a construction project, starting Monday. The project calls for the replacement of water mains, sewer mains, manholes, catch basins and fire hydrants as well as related infrastructure. Detours will be posted, Construction work will be done between 7 am. and 3:30 pm. on week days and is expected to be completed in August prior to the return of students to SUNY Oneonta & Hartwick College.
For National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Oneonta's Muller Plaza will be the site of the "Main Street Goes Blue Event" tomorrow, spokesperson Rebecca Hess explains:

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Leroy Williams of Oneonta following a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Oneonta on March 1st. Williams was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment, he faces court action shortly.
The American Red Cross has resumed testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Plasma from routine donations that have high levels of COVID-19 antibodies may be used as convalescent plasma to help meet the needs of COVID-19 patients with weakened immune systems. At the same time, the Red Cross blood supply remains vulnerable, and individuals are urged to schedule a blood or platelet donation. To make an appointment, use the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS. The next blood drive locally will be in Sidney on March 29 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge, 104 River Street.
State Trooper T.J. Conklin responded to a welfare check of an elderly man at the Whitney Point Rest Area off I-81. Trooper Conklin learned the man’s family accidentally left him behind at the rest stop after he stepped out to stretch his legs. State police say the man had no phone, Trooper Conklin located a family member out of state who was able to connect with the family members in the car. The man’s family realized he wasn’t sleeping in the back seat where he left his jacket over some baggage, They had already traveled 3 hours away, so Trooper Conklin drove the man to Roscoe where they all had dinner together at a local diner.

Oneonta Fire Department responded to a fire at the Motel 88 on Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon. The fire was started in an unoccupied room, 2 adjacent rooms suffered damage, it was knocked down in less than an hour, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Edmeston Central School announced that they had over 25% of the school quarantined due to COVID-19. The Edmeston District went to remote learning Thursday & will stay remote through next Friday, in-person learning will start again on Tuesday, January 18th. All after school activities and games have been postponed.
Binghamton Police are investigation the shooting of an 18 year old Binghamton High School Male Student, near the High School Thursday morning at about 11:15. The victim was taken to an area hospital, the School district implemented lockdowns at all buildings, Binghamton Police arrested a 17 year old suspect for attempted murder & criminal use of a fire arm, the investigation is ongoing.
New Yorkers will again have the chance to apply for pandemic rental aid and temporary protection from eviction. A State Supreme Court Judge issued a preliminary injunction ordering New York to reopen its application portal at otda.ny.gov, for rent relief in 3 business days. The state stopped accepting rental assistance applications in November. The ruling protects families vulnerable to eviction when New York’s statewide moratorium expires January 15th.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend the gift cards they received this holiday season in a timely fashion, if not the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds. In the last 7 years, the amount returned to DiNapoli’s office in unused gift cards has risen sharply from $5.8 million in 2014 to $16 million in 2021. After five years of dormancy, money from unused gift cards issued by New York businesses is turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds as abandoned property.
New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission met January 3 to approve new maps that would shape those districts for the next 10 years, but ended the meeting with two separate proposals. The Commission sent its 2 plans to lawmakers for consideration during the 2022 session.

State Police released more details about Wednesday arrest of 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, who was wanted for 1st degree Assault in Oneonta on December 30 & also charged for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him, he failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville, Troopers attempted to stop Masi, who again failed to comply, he was stopped on State Highway 17 in Hancock and was taken into custody. Masi was processed on the Stolen Property charge, was arraigned & was released & ordered to appear in Hancock Village Court at a later date; he was then turned over to troopers, was arraigned on the Assault charge & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 bail or $500,000 bond.
The State Health Department & the Governor's Office announced that the Omicron Variant of COVID 19 continues to spread quickly. Over 377,000 were tested Wednesday, with 84,202 positives, for a 22.3% positivity rate. Patient Hospitalization increased by 317 to 11,184, Patients in ICU bed were up to just over 1,400 with 695 on ventilators and 130 New deaths reported by healthcare facilities from COVID.
SUNY Oneonta will host one of the state’s 10 new COVID-19 community testing sites, which opens today, in the training room of the college’s new Emergency Services Building, located at the lower end of campus, and is open to anyone in the community who is experiencing mild to moderate COVID symptoms. Appointments are required and must be scheduled in advance. Testing, which is saliva-based, is provided at no cost to individuals. The site will be open from 8:30 am to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The Oneonta site is scheduled to operate through the end of February. Appointments for testing at the Oneonta site can be scheduled at bit.ly/covid-test-oneonta.
OTSEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES announced that KN95 masks will be made available, FREE for distribution to the public, beginning today at the American Legion COVID test site in the Village of Milford, located at 86 West Main Street in Milford, as well as the SUNY Oneonta COVID test site. An additional distribution site is being established at the Richfield Springs Fire Department in the coming week.
Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from the State Health Department to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from The State and the National Guard will support the county operated clinics beginning today in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River Street from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, as well as on Saturday & January 28th and 29th. The second clinic will be in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. The third location at the Hancock Central School Bus Garage, from 11AM-7PM on January 21st, 22nd, February 11th and 12th. More Information is available at 607-832-5200.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that this year's manager will be Reid Brignac, who retired as a major league player in 2018. The Pitching Coach will be Jerome Williams who pitched in the majors for 11 seasons, the Hitting Coach will be Tommy Joseph, who played with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016 & 2017, and Bench Coach is Mariano Duncan, who played on championship teams in Cincinnati in 1990 & the NY Yankees in 1996.

Local Lawmakers responded to Governor Kathy Hochul's State of The State Address delivered Wednesday in Albany, Local Assemblyman Joe Angelino commented about his top 3 priorities for the 2022 session:

Bassett Healthcare Network is holding a COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine clinic at the Edmeston Central School gymnasium on Saturday, January 15th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Vaccinations offered include the Pfizer and Moderna 1st, 2nd, and booster shots; Pediatric Pfizer COVID Vaccines, as well as Flu shots; the event is open to the public. In the last two days Delaware County has had a surge of positive covid-19 cases with 98 new positive cases on Tuesday & 121 Positives on Wednesday, there was 1 more COVID 19 death attributed to the virus. Delaware County Public Health announced that a limited number of COVID test kits for the public, have arrived from the State, the Office of Emergency Services is distributing the allotments to town offices. Residents are asked to Contact their town clerk's office for distribution information. Positive home tests are now able to be reported to the Delaware County Public Health Services, to delcony.us/coronavirus/#ReportTest and delawarecountypublichealth.com. Firefighters from Oneonta, Franklin & other surrounding communities responded this afternoon to a fire at the Motel 88 at 340 Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The fire was under control in a little more than an hour, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

State Police took 29 year old Anthony Masi into custody Wednesday afternoon on an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Assault. The warrant stems from a serious assault that occurred in Oneonta after Masi allegedly attacked a victim with a machete-type knife at the Budget Inn on State Route 23 on December 30th, the investigation is continuing.
Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people 18 and older on Today at 97 Main Street, Delhi. Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only. Moderna boosters will be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, registration is required at apps2.health.ny.gov, and more information is available at 607-832-5200.
