State Police will be out in full force for the Christmas holiday. Police will be looking for aggressive drivers, drunk drivers, as well as motorists who are using cell phones for calling or texting, and they will be looking for compliance to seat belt laws and the new “Move Over” laws.
Free Christmas dinners are being offered for those who are struggling, or who have no family visiting this year, at the River Club in Afton Christmas day, with deliveries available within a 10-mile radius, toys have also been collected & will be distributed to children in attendance. No reservations are necessary, dinner will be served from 12:00 Noon to 2:30 PM, deliveries can be arranged by calling 639-3060. In Sidney, a free Christmas day dinner is also being offered at the river street fire station from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reminds New Yorkers that contributions to a New York State 529 College Savings Program account are tax deductible. The 529 College Savings Program is designed to help parents save for college, ranks among the best in the nation, and Contributions made by December 31 can provide up to $10,000 in state tax deductions on 2014 tax filings. The parent company of the Constitution Pipeline has filed eminent domain proceedings against 55 landowners along the proposed pipeline route from Northeast Pennsylvania through the Southern Tier & into Schoharie County. The Pipeline’s proposed 124-mile route travels through Broome Chenango & Delaware Counties locally, the project recently received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to continue, they look to begin construction as soon as possible.
The state labor department has released the unemployment statistics for November. Locally Chenango county rate dropped to 5.7%, Delaware County’s rate was down to 6.3% and Otsego County dropped to 5.5% in November.

The Chenango county district attorney’s office announced that 56 year old John Guzy of Bainbridge was indicted Thursday by a Chenango county grand jury, for 2nd degree murder, attempted 2nd degree murder, 2 counts of 1sdt degree assault, 2 counts criminal use of a firearm and 9 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and operating a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher. Guzy is accused of the murder of 26-year-old Derek Prindle and the shooting of his father last month; he remains held tin the Chenango county jail without bail


The Otsego county sheriffs department arrested 21-year-old Jeremy Folds of Hartwick on a variety of drug & weapons charges. Folds was found hunting illegally with a long gun by his probation officer Wednesday in the town of Hartwick, deputies also found 7.7 grams of Hydrocodone with intent to sell. Folds was charged with 3 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, he was sent to the Otsego county jail on $5,000 bail.


The Sidney chamber of commerce will hold their 1st annual Holiday Bazaar and Pancake breakfast at the Sidney Fire Department Training center on River Street Saturday. Chamber Director Kerri Green explains:

Governor Cuomo unveiled his $137.2 Billion Dollars state budget proposal for the 2014 and 2015 fiscal year, to a joint session of the legislature this afternoon:

Cuomo said that the state spending is up only 1.7%, the state legislature now has until April 1st to get the budget plan passed.


The new Senior Center opened today on the 2nd floor of the Sidney Civic Center, which will be tied into the recreational facilities at the Sidney Boys & Girls Club.  Club Director Trish Tyrell said that many area organizations and businesses have supported this project:

The Oneonta Police Department announced the arrests of 3 juveniles, in connection with the vandalism at Doc Knapp Field, Riverside Elementary School, the Swart –Wilcox House and a vehicle last weekend.  Police officials said the tips provided by the public led to these arrests.  All 3 suspects are under the age of 16, their identities will not be released, and the investigation is still continuing.


The new season of “American Idol” began last week on Fox, with taped auditions from various venues.  Last week’s season debut featured 15 year old Kaitlyn Jackson of Norwich, performing her original song “Another Angel”.  Jackson told WCDO News about the experience, and the surprise of seeing herself on national television:

The next step for Jackson is “Hollywood Week” as she and 205 other hopefuls vie for the chance to become one of 30 finalists to compete for the next “American Idol”.


Federal Authorities closed down Lyn’s Leisure Tyme Gun Shop in Davenport last Thursday, when the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms raided the establishment on state route 23.  The Bureau has not released details of the raid Thursday, the Delaware county sheriffs department were not involved in the raid.


Plans are continuing to go forward, for the ambitious plan to try to get village of Sidney residents out of the flood prone areas downtown, into a new settlement to be built in the Plankenhorn Road area.  Sidney village Economic development Director John Redente explains:
