Cal Harris has filed papers in federal court in Syracuse today, against Tioga County officials for malicious prosecution and civil rights violations. Harris was twice convicted for murdering his estranged wife Michelle in 2001 he won appeals each time, the 3rd murder trial was moved to Schoharie County, that jury was deadlocked, and in trial Number 4, Harris was freed from Jail. Harris' lawsuit targets former Tioga County District Attorney Gerald Keene, who prosecuting the murder case twice, and got convictions against Harris, plus Police detectives that worked the case, & people who testified against him, they are expected to respond to the suit in Federal court later this year.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 51 year old Matthew Dyer of Florida, for 20 counts of Reckless Endangerment, following an investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and the management of Reithoffer Shows, that revealed that Dyer was operating a ride at the Delaware County Fairgrounds while intoxicated; endangering the passengers on the ride. Dyer was arraigned in the Village of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail pending further court action.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 30-year-old Patrick Ford of Delancey, on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Delhi Court as a result of Ford’s failure to appear to answer charges of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Petit Larceny. Ford was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $250 cash bail.
State Police & Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 33-year-old Christopher Davis of Otego on a Warrant of Arrest issued by the Town of Franklin Court. Davis was charged with 3rd degree Robbery, Criminal Mischief & Petty Larceny, for allegedly forcefully stealing a cell phone from a victim during a domestic dispute in the Town of Franklin. Davis was arraigned in the Town of Franklin Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail pending further court action.
The Norwich YMCA 10th Annual Open Doors Scholarship Motorcycle ride will be held this Sunday. Registrations will begin at 10:00 AM; the ride starts at 11:30 & will proceed to Mt. Upton Park for a chicken barbecue & Chinese Auction, 50/50 & other activities.
The Greater Afton Chamber of Commerce has taken over the "Afton Sidewalk Days" Saturday, as they try to keep a long time local tradition going forward, Chamber President John Hinman explains:

The 4th Annual Oneonta Job Corps Community Ballgame will be held tonight from 6:15 to 9:15 PM @ Damaschke Field in Neahwa Park. In addition to the ballgame there will be games and contests, & a Fireworks Show at 9:00pm. The event is free & open to the public.
The Electoral Action Working Group of Delaware County Solidarity, has organized a community forum Saturday, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the United Ministry of Delhi at 1 Church Street. Candidates who have officially announced their run for the 19th congressional seat in 2018 will participate. More Information is available at 363-2752.
The New York State MX Championship will be held at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center on State Route 8 in New Berlin this weekend. State Police and the United States Postal Inspection Service announced the arrest of 22 people and the seizure of drugs, weapons, cash and one vehicle resulting from a joint drug investigation throughout Central New York. “Operation Pandora’s Box,” targeted drug suppliers from New York and around the nation -- and even overseas -- who are using the U.S. Mail to ship narcotics and synthetic drugs, along with other contraband, into the region. Among those arrested locally, 23-year-old Erica Cirzeveto of Binghamton, 24-year-old Nefateia Brink of Binghamton, both on a variety of drug charges, and 37-year-old Terry Davis of Oneonta, for Criminal Possession of Marihuana.

Congressmen Chris Gibson co-introduced bipartisan legislation to bring fairness to the federal system used to determine the price dairy farmers are paid for their milk. The Dairy Margin Insurance Location Calculation Act amends the Farm Bill to require the Secretary of Agriculture to use statisitcs from each state to calculate average feed cost and actual dairy production margins. The current margin protection program is harmful to New York dairy farms because it uses calculations based on the average feed costs associated with the Midwest and other differing markets.
Governor Cuomo announced that efforts by state and local law enforcement have resulted in an 840% increase in tickets for texting while driving in New York State since 2011. While the number of cell phone tickets have decreased each year since 2011. The announcement was made in conjunction with Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Operation Hang Up, a distracted driving crackdown by the State Police and local law enforcement. New York State prohibits drivers from Holding a portable electronic device, Talking on a handheld phone; sending or retrieving e-mails, text messages, or logging onto websites, or playing electronic games.
Delaware County Public Health Services announces a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic For dogs, cats, and ferrets tonight from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Hancock Town Hall.
State Police in Oneonta want to advise the public and local businesses that multiple stores in the Oneonta area have recently received several $10 and $20 Norfed “Liberty Dollar” medallions. These medallions are privately produced products that are neither backed by, nor affiliated with the United States Government. They are not genuine United States Mint coins and are not legal tender despite their appearance. These silver medallions are only worth the value of the silver that they are made of; any store clerk who is handed one of these during a sale should not accept it.
With just under 2 weeks to go, more than 500 fire departments across the State have signed up to participate in RecruitNY on the weekend of April 23rd & 24th. RecruitNY is designed to increase membership in volunteer fire departments, fire department volunteers will conduct tours of their facilities, demonstrate firefighting techniques, allow visitors to try on turnout gear. The State Department of Health announced the launch of the “Treat Nicotine Addiction Campaign,” to urge health care providers to reframe smoking as an addiction to nicotine, rather than a bad habit, and to treat nicotine addiction with counseling and medication. Patients who are encouraged to quit and begin medication are 2 to 3 times more likely to remain smoke-free. The Treat Nicotine Addiction Campaign will run through June 2016.
