State Police were dispatched Tuesday Afternoon to a 2-vehicle crash on State Highway 12 in the town of Greene. A preliminary investigation revealed that 42 year old Maryann Zupo of Greene was traveling south on State Highway 12 and crossed into the path of another vehicle driven by 22 year old Shelby Rose of Norwich. Zupo was extricated by members of Greene EMS and life saving measures were unsuccessful, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Rose suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilson Medical Center for further medical care. The investigation continues.


A New York appeals court has upheld a new state law allowing absentee ballots to be reviewed before Election Day, saying it would would be “extremely disruptive” to change the rules with absentee voting already underway. The decision from the Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court reverses a lower court ruling that declared New York’s early review of absentee ballots was unconstitutional. Early voting will continue through Sunday November 6th, Election Day is Tuesday November 8th.


New York Voters will decide on Proposition 1 next week on election Day. Proposal 1 would issue $4.20 billion in general obligation bonds for projects classified as climate change mitigation, flood-risk reduction, water infrastructure, and land conservation and recreation. The ballot measure would require that bond issue revenue be distributed for air and water pollution reduction projects; wetland protections, flooding; green building projects; zero-emission school buses; plus water & sewer infrastructure projects.

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta will be held next year on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th through the 28th.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 58 year old Floyd Moseman of East Meredith for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On October 26th, Deputies responded to a report of a male walking in the middle of the road on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi, the investigation revealed that Moseman had operated a Motor Vehicle until it became disabled, then started walking, a check of Moseman’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended in the State of New York. Moseman was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kristopher Duncan of Plattsburgh, pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court this week. Duncan admitted to firing an unlicensed and loaded handgun in a room at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson on June 11th. No one was injured in the shooting. Duncan will be sentenced in January.


River Street in Oneonta will be limited to one lane of traffic Today & Tomorrow, as a private contractor will be working in front of 55 River Street on both days from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Drivers are reminded to pay attention to flaggers and temporary traffic control devices. With residential energy costs expected to rise nationwide this winter, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for emergency supplemental funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or "LIHEAP":

Senator Gillibrand said that over 1 million New York households get LIHEAP support to heat their homes, but additional funding is needed with the rising prices. Gillibrand said she favors the idea for the state to go back to a program where families that received help through SNAP, would automatically get LIHEAP assistance, without extra paperwork or bureaucracy.


Firefighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Five Mile Point and Kirkwood responded to a structure fire at 24 Riley Road this morning just before 6:00 AM. 1 occupant safely escaped the fire, the investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $7.9 million is being awarded through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help over 70 farms across the state reduce their environmental footprints and prepare for extreme weather events related to climate change. Locally, in the Southern Tier, a Total Award, of more than $693,000 will distributed, the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District was awarded $159,160 to assist three farms.


State Police will be participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics, starting tomorrow. The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement. This year, Troop B will be running in Plattsburgh, tomorrow morning starting at 11:00 AM.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office is continuing with an investigation into animal cruelty at a farm in the town of Butternuts earlier this week. Numerous animals were removed & were taken to the Susquehanna SPCA for evaluation & treatment, so far, no charges have been announced against the owner of the animals.

State Police arrested 56 year old Francesco Carotenuto of Schenevus for 1st degree rape, he was previously arrested on charges for Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child on September 8, 2022. After a further investigation, Investigators learned that Carotenuto forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim several years ago. Carotenuto was in jail for the previous charges, he was processed and returned to jail.


The State Department of Health announced the launch of a dedicated long COVID website, and audio resources, providing a more comprehensive and more accessible destination for the State’s latest information, at health.ny.gov/diseases/long_COVID.

The Gus Macker Tournament returns to Norwich after a 2 year break due to the COVID 19 pandemic, Co-Organizer Tom Revoir visited the WCDO Studios this morning, and he is looking for volunteers for a variety of roles:

Sidney Village Officials announced that due to a water main repair, the village is shutting of water in the downtown area through 6:00 PM. The Main Street Bridge is closed for repairs, Chambers & O'Hara announced that their Main Street entrance is closed, but patrons can enter the lot from the driveway on Bridge Street about 200 yards from the Traffic Light.


The Greater Oneonta Historical Society announced that they will open its exhibition, on Saturday, June 18th, entitled “Remembering Oneonta in the 1960's” at the Oneonta History Center at 183 Main Street. New York State now has Early Voting, for Delaware County registered voters it will take place at the Board of Elections Office, 3 Gallant Avenue in Delhi. 32 year old Anthony Schorer of Burlington was sentenced to 10 years probation in Otsego County Court. Schorer pleaded guilty to a 2nd degree criminal sexual act against a child, State Police originally arrested Schorer on January 4th and his brother, 33 year old Timothy Schorer of Hartwick on January 11th, he is due in court on June 24th. The alleged crimes happened between 2003 and 2010, the victim was between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.

The State Department of Health today announced the 1st confirmed orthopoxvirus case outside of New York City, following testing at the Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The Sullivan County health department is treating the case as a probable monkeypox case, and contact tracing efforts are underway. Broome County Transit premiered their new fully electric buses that the county will be transitioning to in the coming months. The Busses are manufactured by Nova Bus of Plattsburgh, Broome County will be the only county in the state to transition to an all-electric public transit system.

The Franklin Fire Department responded Sunday night at about 7:30 pm to State Route 28 & Case Hill for a structure fire. Several area fire departments were called for mutual aid, firefighters were at the scene until about 9:30 pm, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is being investigated.


The Centers for Disease Control reports that 29 out of the 54 counties in New York State have a high number of COVID-19 cases. Counties in the "high" category on the CDC's COVID-19 tracker have more than 200 cases per 100,000 or have COVID-positive patients in more than 10% of hospital beds. The CDC said that residents of counties in the "high" category should wear masks indoors. Locally Broome County & most counties North & West of Broome are in the "high" category.

The State Attorney General's office, County Sheriffs Offices and District Attorneys reported how much money law enforcement agencies have seized, following investigations into drug crime, Fraudulent business practices & other criminal activities. Of the 62 Counties in New York State, Broome County DA's office ranked 7th with seizures over $121,000.


Governor Hochul announced that due to the shortage of qualified nurses, the state announced the "Nurses For Our Future Scholarship" program to help 1,000 people train to become RN's by covering their tuition costs at SUNY schools. Up to 500 scholarships will be awarded for out-of-state licensed nurses who relocate and practice in New York State to earn a BSN. Up to 250 scholarships will be awarded for New York State licensed nurses to earn a BSN. Up to 250 scholarships will be awarded to New York State residents newly seeking an ADN. Officials with the Susquehanna SPCA announced a black and white French Bulldog named Luna is suspected of being stolen from her own yard on the corner of State Routes 51 and 23 in Morris Sunday. The dog is a registered service dog for a disabled man, a 10 mile search by volunteers was unsuccessful, anyone with information is asked to call (607) 258-4112.

Judge Patrick McAllister has ordered the state's congressional and state Senate primaries to be delayed until August 23 to provide time for Jonathan Cervas to replace maps that were ruled unconstitutional. McAllister moved the primaries Friday from their original date of June 28, Cervas will finish drawing new maps by May 20, New York is set to hold gubernatorial and state Assembly primaries in June.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal Motorcycle crash on Interstate 88 near the Port Crane exit in the Town of Fenton Sunday afternoon around 3:45 PM. 2 overturned motorcycles and 2 injured people were located by EMT"S & Deputies, 32-year-old Joshua Callahan of Halfmoon was found unresponsive and laying in the roadway and 40-year-old Radames Gonzalez of Plattsburgh, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Attempts were made to revive Callahan, but he was declared was eventually declared dead at the scene, Gonzalez was transported to Wilson Hospital.


Local government sales tax collections grew by 21.1%, or $901 million, in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Broome County saw the highest County growth at 24.3%, Of the cities that impose their own sales tax, Norwich saw the biggest jump in the first quarter at 30.8%.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Alexander Rogers of the Town of Hartwick for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, Conspiracy & Criminal Trespass for a series of forced entry burglaries at commercial businesses in March and April. On April 17th, at 2:30 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a report of a burglar alarm activation, the business had been broken in to and multiple automated teller machines were tampered with. Rogers was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are expected.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation creating a new Conditional Adult-use Cannabis Cultivator license. The Bill will allow New York hemp farmers to apply for a conditional license to grow cannabis in the 2022 growing season for the forthcoming adult-use cannabis market. State Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for 71-year-old John Logotto, who was last seen on January 30th at the Grandview Hotel in Ogdensburg. State Police said that Logotto has ties to the Cooperstown & Oneonta areas locally, Anyone with information is asked to contact 315-379-0012.


A bird flu that kills most infected humans, especially children, was found in birds in New York State. The State Health Department reported that a backyard flock of 8 birds on Long Island has tested positive for avian influenza, state officials & the United States Department of Agriculture will continue to monitor the situation

An off-duty New York state trooper was killed Sunday in a snowmobile crash in Dannemora. 31 year old Joshua Gushlaw lost control of the snowmobile, veering from trail and hitting several trees, He was pronounced dead at the scene. Gushlaw joined the state police in 2016 & was assigned to Troop B in Plattsburgh.

Andes Central School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chakar has been placed on administrative paid leave pending an investigation into complaints, according to the Andes Central School Board of Education. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is investigating, the letter sent to parents by the School Board can be found at the Andes school website.
