Delaware County Public Health is scheduling Rabies vaccination clinics, following the recent report of the first rabid animal of the year in Masonville last week. The next clinic will be held in Sidney on May 5, from 5:30PM-7:30PM, at the Sidney Fire Hall at 74 River Street. More information about rabies can be found at delawarecountypublichealth.com
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's auditors found that New York state bought hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of medical equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that now sits unused in storage facilities. To compete for the purchase of the medical equipment at the start of the pandemic, Then Governor Cuomo took emergency steps to accelerate the procurement process, inconsistent with Office of General Services guidance. DiNapoli's auditors determined the state paid $452.8 million to purchase 247,343 Medical items & machines, only 324 of those items were distributed, the audit recommends that the state distribute the items to hospitals & medical providers who may be able to use them, and stop paying for excessive storage fees for those items.

Registration for the 4th annual Nate Lull Scholarship Golf Tournament is now underway, for the tournaments to be held at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin, Lull told WCDO news that interested golfers should sign up as soon as possible:

A Citizen Preparedness Training Event will be held on Monday, April 28th in Margaretville at the Town Hall, hosted by Delaware County Public Health, with representatives from the New York National Guard & The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. State Police were called Friday to Interstate 81 in the town of Lisle for a report of a one-car crash. When Troopers arrived, a 2007 Subaru Outback was observed crashed into a tree. An investigation determined that the driver and sole occupant, 67 year old Kenneth Zuidema of Pennsylvania, drove off of I-81 and struck a tree, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
National Weather Service officials confirmed a record breaking EF-1 tornado touched down in the City of Buffalo early Monday afternoon. The confirmation means that New York State has had 26 tornadoes this year, breaking the previous record of 25 set in 1992, over 20 tornadoes touched down in the month of July.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office is now hiring for deputies for the department for a number of positions withing the Sheriff's Office. More information about salary, benefits & positions are available by calling 607-778-3076.
State DEC announced that hunting and trapping licenses and Deer Management Permits for the 2024-25 season are now on sale. Licenses and permits can be purchased online at any of DEC's license issuing agents or by telephone at 866-933-2257. Hunting and trapping licenses are valid from Sept. 1 through Aug. 31 each year, while annual fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from date of purchase. State Police arrested 57 year old Terri White of Otego for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated. Troopers were dispatched to check on White’s welfare when they discovered she had driven her vehicle while intoxicated. After administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests that revealed indications of impairment, White was arrested. Her reportable B.A.C was .23%. White was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on August 20, 2024 then released to a sober third party.
State Police arrested 33 year old Shane Katalinas of Unadilla for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers were dispatched by Otsego County 911 to a report of a male slumped over the wheel of a vehicle on Winney Hill Road in Oneonta, Troopers found both Katalinas and a female passenger unresponsive but were able to wake them. Katalinas was arrested, he was transported to State Police in Oneonta where he was additionally evaluated by a New York State Police Drug Recognition Expert. Katalinas was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on August 20, 2024, and released to a sober third party.

State Police are participating in the national enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired driving this holiday season. The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, began today & runs through Monday, January 1st, 2024. In addition to the DWI checkpoints and patrols, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” which requires motorists to exercise extreme caution when passing emergency vehicles that are stopped in or on the side of the road. State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide.

The State Court of Appeals ordered new Congressional maps be drawn for the 2024 election, the redistricting decision will ensure that all , district lines should be drawn by the Independent Redistricting Commission, and not by state lawmakers.
28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla pleaded guilty to Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, in Delaware County Court, he admitted that he was sending sexual messages to a person he believed to be a minor, Ireland is a registered sex offender, it was later revealed that the person he was messaging was an adult, decoying as a child. Ireland will be sentenced to 1 year in jail, he will be required to pay fines and surcharges & he will provide a sample of his DNA for the state data bank. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on January 29.
State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Newfield, with 1 fatality reported. The investigation revealed that a Toyota and a Jeep were traveling north, The Jeep was stopped for another vehicle in front of it making a turn when the Jeep was rear-ended by the Toyota, which then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac. A passenger of the Toyota, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead on scene, The operator of the Toyota 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was transported to Packer Hospital, the operators of the other vehicles were treated at the scene by EMS & were released.
State Police arrested 34 year old Joshua Bean of Endicott for 3 counts of Menacing, State Police responded to a complaint at Highland Park in the town of Union, where Bean allegedly menaced 3 people with a pocket-knife while they were working at the holiday fireworks display. Bean was arrested then transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Governor Hochul signed Angelica’s Law, which decreases the number of prior license suspensions needed to qualify for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The legislation was named for Angelica Nappi who lost her life after being killed by a driver with multiple prior suspensions.
