The evaporator will be boiling in the Sugarshack, which will be open for syrup samples and educational demonstrations, The event will also feature live acoustic music with traditional maple folk songs. Otsego County Sheriff’s Office received cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, they arrested 20-year-old Jose Hernandez Martinez of Oneonta on 7 counts of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child and 32 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, he was also found to be in the country illegally and is originally from El Salvador. Officers found him in the Town of Oneonta and arrested him without incident. He will be held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility until he is arraigned.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Amber Renwick of Otego, for 3 counts of Promotion of a Sexual Performance by a Child, 2 counts of Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child plus Sexual Misconduct, following an investigation in to a cyber tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. In February of 2025, investigators received information from the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce of child sexual abuse material being disseminated from a Kik online social media account, Renwick did possess and send the child sexual abuse material to other users. The Sheriff’s Office & State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant & she was taken in to custody, was processed and was being held for Arraignment. The investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.
Celebrate Earth Day by planting native wildflowers at Rogers Center, On Saturday, the public is invited to plant an assortment of seeds which will expand pollinator habitat around the Rogers Center Three Sisters Garden. The planting will begin at 10:30 am until 12 noon across the street from the visitor parking lot, There will be educational material available for each flower variety in the pollinator mix.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded last May to a motor vehicle roll over accident in Harpersfield. 25-year-old Isaiah Caballero of Oneonta, lost control of the vehicle, it left the roadway and struck a tree, 25 year old Nyheim Golden-Williams was killed in the crash. Deputies located cocaine & a loaded pistol that did not have a serial number. Caballero was arrested at the Ulster Correctional Facility Tuesday, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon and Vehicular Manslaughter, he was arraigned and was remanded back to the Ulster Correctional facility on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested 21-year-old Alexis Lotterman of Walton for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, she was a passenger in the vehicle and was also in possession of the narcotics and firearm, she was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond.

State Troopers are out in full force with the St. Patricks's Day celebrations coming up this weekend. The STOP-DWI campaign runs through next Tuesday, with St. Patrick's Day on Monday this year. In 2024, the troopers ran their St. Patrick's Day campaign resulted in over 5,500 tickets, they arrested 132 for DWI infractions and they also investigated 199 crashes during that weekend.

Trout Creek Firefighters responded to a blaze at 9275 State Highway 206 Monday at about 4:00 AM. The house was completely destroyed, nearby structures suffered heat damage, Trout Creek Fire Department received assistance from firefighters from Masonville, Sidney Center, Walton and Sidney Fire Departments, the cause of the fire was accidental and started in the laundry room of the house.

The winner of the Friends of Rogers 2021 Electric Car Raffle is Keith Thode of Grapevine, Texas, who graduated from Sherburne High School in 1989, he won a 2020 Tesla Model 3 and arrived in New York to pick up the car on December 2nd. Tehan said that Thode visited friends & family around Sherburne & in Albany & then brought the Tesla to Pennsylvania to have it shipped back to Texas, where he has owned electric vehicles since 2014. All proceeds of the Electric Car Raffle, along with Thode's $5,000 donation, benefits Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.
Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from NYSDOH to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from NYSDOH and the national guard will support the county operated clinics beginning January 7th. The first location will be held in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River St. from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, on Friday January 7th, , 8th, 28th, and 29th. The second in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, 56 Main St. from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. The Friends of the Rogers Environmental Center of Sherburne announced the winner of this year’s raffle of an electric car.  The Winner of the Tesla is Virginia Huerfeld of Glenmont, New York.  All proceeds of the Electric Car Raffle benefits Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center.
Officials gathered in New Berlin to break ground at the site of the new fire house and Chobani Community Center, located on South Main Street in the village.  The fire station will have 6 garage bays, offices and rooms for training and storage and a space for community meetings.  The village received a $150,000 grant from the state, plus donations from Chobani for $650,000 & Preferred Mutual Insurance for $150,000.

Otsego County Department of Health reports 5 new cases of COVID 19 Wednesday, and 10 cases reported over the past 5 days, 5 of those cases have been traced back to a recent wedding. Since October 1st The Health Department reports 12 cases related to 2 separate weddings. The County reports 942 total confirmed cases,  19 are active cases with 2 hospitalizations, 7 deaths,  746 probable and confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta & 21 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students

Sidney Central School District Superintendent Eben Bullock announced that they received 481 responses which covers 830 students, to their survey, sent out to parents regarding what they are planning to regarding schooling their children this fall, , That amount covered a significant sample size of about 75% of the school population.  Bullock told WCDO News that the information compiled from the survey was sent to the state by in the district’s re-opening plan by last Friday’s deadline, he believes that there is room for many but not all students within the existing square footage in the district:

Week to host an Electric Car Show & Flea Market last Saturday, at Rogers
Environmental Education Center in Sherburne New York. This festival was held to
bring awareness and education about sustainable energy practices available in
the area. The show had a total of 18 electric and plug in hybrid cars on site
with over 40 rides given and over 125 people in attendance. This is just shy of
the Electric car show in Syracuse the previous Sunday where 20 plug-in vehicles
were on site. Friends of Rogers hope to make this an annual event.

injury and was transported to Upstate Medical Center.  Troopers recognized Macomber as they
responded to a call earlier in the night involving Macomber driving erratically
on I-81; she was not impaired at that time and was released.  Troopers also learned Macomber was the
suspect of an earlier hit and run on State Route 41 in Smithville.  Macomber will appear in the town of Willet
court on June 26th.

The Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship
and SUNY Cobleskill will offer a free legal workshop On Wednesday, March 6th
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Oneonta, for farms and food businesses on the important
topic of succession planning. The workshop is part of a 2019 Farm and Food
Business Incubator Workshop series covering essential topics in business
planning and management, it will be held at the Center’s Oneonta office

NY State of Health released
county-level enrollment statistics showing that overall enrollment increased in
each of New York’s 62 counties. Total enrollment in the Marketplace is now over
4.7 million people, reflecting an increase of more than 435,000 people from
2018.  NY State of Health focused
increased marketing and outreach efforts in areas with higher uninsured rates,
which contributed to enrollment gains across all program types. Counties with
the Highest Percentage Increase in Combined Qualified Health Plan &
Essential Plan Enrollment between 2018 and 2019 included Broome County with a
12% increase & Delaware County with a 10% increase.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the New York State
Department of Labor has been awarded up to $5.59 million in federal grants to
help provide new skills to workers, including new entrants to the workforce,
who have been or are being impacted by the opioid crisis. Additionally, the funds
will be used for workforce development in professions that address or prevent
problems related to opioids across the state, such as addiction treatment
service providers, pain management and therapy service providers, and mental
health treatment providers. The initiative complements ongoing efforts
by the state Health Department and the Office of Alcoholism and Substance
Abuse services to train peers in recovery to work with hospitals, assisting individuals
with substance use disorder in accessing treatment.

Delaware County Sheriff’s
Deputies arrested 28-year-old Michael Lor of Schenectady, for DWI, failure to keep
right and moving from a lane unsafely, after a traffic stop in the Town of
Middletown.  Lor was released & will
appear in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

A HEALTHCARE JOB FAIR will be held at the FOXCARE Center in
Oneonta, tomorrow from 11:00 am to 2:00 PM.
Participants include Bassett Healthcare, Family Planning of South
Central NY, UHS Hospitals, The ARC of Delaware County, The ARC of Otsego
County, AO Fox Hospital, Pathfinder Village & the State Veteran’s Home in
Oxford.
Visitors can travel back in time Saturday as the Rogers
Environmental Education Center in Sherburne hosts a demonstration of ice
harvesting on Cunningham Ice Pond.  The
event runs from 2:30 and 3:30 pm, it is free and open to the public.
