Otsego county sheriffs Deputies arrested 29-year-old Brandon Empie of Milford for allegedly threatening to kill Otsego county judge John Lambert  & burn his house down.  The sheriff’s department Criminal Investigation Division investigated and consulted with the district attorney's office, Empie was arrested Tuesday on charges of making a terrorist threat, he was arraigned in Town of Milford court & he was remanded to the Otsego county Jail on $10,000 bail.


Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 22-year-old Brandon Cole of Sidney on a number of charges early this morning.  Deputies observed Cole driving Bevier Street at a high rate of speed, running a red light, and eventually he struck a guide rail in the parking lot of the Expressmart on Old Front Street.  Cole was charged with Aggravated DWI, with BAC .18% or greater, Unreasonable and imprudent speed, Failure to maintain lane, Open container in a motor vehicle, as well as other charges, he will appear in the town of Dickinson court at a later date.


Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested 2 Madison County residents on a variety of charges Monday in Sherburne.  20-year-old Trever Scheckler of Hamilton was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Speeding, Improper Passing, and Reckless Driving.  Also charged was Scheckler’s passenger, 20-year-old Cody Smith, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Both will appear in Sherburne town court at a later date.


Governor Cuomo today announced that $1.2 million in job training grants is still available to businesses that hire long-term unemployed New Yorkers. The campaign helps individuals who have been out of work for 26 weeks or longer, by connecting them to available regional jobs.  600 businesses have taken advantage of about $8.2 million in training incentives & have  hired more than 1,200 individuals. The Sidney Central Schools announced the start of their after school enrichment program on October 22nd.  The model for this program is similar to the model used for the summer camps.  Programs such as Robotics, Math & Music, Guitar Lessons, Zumba, and many others, for students in grades 1through 8.  The programs will run in 5-week increments and change each session, hours are from 2:55 to 4:10 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  More information is available at the Sidney Elementary School  at 561-7701.


Fundraising efforts are underway for former tri-town area resident William Hurtubise, who traveled to India for work from Texas, he forgot to check his bag before leaving the states, and carried 8 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition into India.  Hurtibise was arrested on September 18th and taken into custody; family & friends in the area are trying to raise funds in the amount of $75,000 for legal expenses in order to obtain his release.  Details & fundraising can be found online at giveforward.com.


State Police arrested 34-year-old Megan Holbrook of Laurens for driving while intoxicated. The arrest followed an investigation of an accident on Wilber Lake Road in Oneonta, Holbrook was issued tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta court on November 5th.


A reward is being offered by a private citizen, after a number of signs promoting town of Sidney Democratic candidates were vandalized recently.  Ray Lewis of Sidney Center said that he is putting up a $1,000 reward:

Delaware county Sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday to a domestic incident where a person was held at gunpoint at 1090 County Highway 5 in Bovina.  Deputies and State troopers responded & found a victim fleeing from the residence, who had been released by the perpetrator, 32 year old Justin Geraghty, who had taken the homeowners hostage following an earlier domestic incident at another residence.  Geraghty barricaded himself in the residence with a firearm and threatened to kill law enforcement officers.  Tear gas was deployed in an attempt to get Geraghty to surrender, he was found deceased inside the residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Geraghty was wanted by the State Division of Parole, and by the Delhi Police Department for 1st degree Burglary, 3rd degree Assault and Petty Larceny.


Governor Cuomo's popularity is moving upward, according to a new poll from Siena College out today.   The Siena poll found 65% of registered voters found Cuomo's performance was favorable up 7% from the June poll numbers, while 30% found Cuomo’s job performance unfavorable.  Among the Upstate voters polled, 55% said that Cuomo's performance was favorable, with 41% choosing unfavorable.


A motorcyclist was killed Sunday when a nearby car hit a deer, sending it airborne and into the path of the motorcycle.  Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident on state route 8 in the Town of Brookfield Sunday, they reported that 31-year-old Phurba Tamang, of Utica was driving on Route 8 when she hit a deer, which became airborne and struck a motorcycle driven by 49 year old Cyle Chesebro of West Edmeston, Chesebro was pronounced dead at the scene.


Delaware County Deputies investigated a car & pedestrian accident on County Hwy 21 in the Town of Walton. 60-year-old David Gomez of the Bronx was traveling on County Highway 21 near Runion Road Thursday, when he had struck 37 year old William Caputo of Walton, who was walking down the center of the road.  No tickets were issued to Gomez and Caputo was transported to Bassett hospital in Cooperstown for treatment of injuries.

School district budget votes will be held tomorrow throughout the state, with many of the districts also voting on school board seats.  Most of the area school district are proposing budgets that come in at or under the state’s 2% tax cap. Locally, Afton, Charlotte Valley, Edmeston, Franklin, Laurens, Milford, Norwich, Oxford Unadilla Valley, Unatego & Walton are asking residents to pass budgets with total spending  more than 2% above last year.


State Police in Deposit arrested 21-year-old Onif Chamberlain of The Bronx, for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Also arrested was 20-year-old Gregory Ewer of The Bronx for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrests resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 17 in Hancock; both subjects were issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Village of Hancock Court on May 22nd.


State Police at Oneonta arrested 20-year-old John Rundblad Jr., of Worcester for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC result of .13%. The arrest resulted from a traffic accident in Westford; Rundblad was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Westford Court on June 4th.


Police in Delhi & Walton are investigating alleged threats to the Delhi & Walton school districts Friday there was no actual incidents based on the Internet posted threats, both schools remained on lockdown, and police presence was beefed up at dismissal times. Franklin also went on lockdown for a short period at dismissal time, to insure the students’ safety, even though they were not mentioned specifically in the Internet threats.  The investigations are continuing.

The Women’s Fund, of the Community Foundation for South Central New York, is accepting grant proposals for amounts of $1,000 to $4,000 from qualified organizations in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga counties. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office executed a "no knock" search warrant, in Sherburne, 52-year-old Robert Reynolds was charged with 1st degree Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance and 4th degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.  Police seized 100 pounds of high-grade marihuana, Oxycodone,  $ 36,000 in cash, about $20,000 in property gained from marihuana sales, plus scales, packaging material and drug paraphernalia.  Reynolds was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and held at the Chenango County Jail on $ 50,000 cash bail, he’ll reappear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.  Additional arrests are pending and the investigation is continuing.


Delaware County Sheriff Deputies and Probation officers arrested 49-year-old David SPRY of Davenport Thursday on a probation violation warrant from the State of Florida. SPRY is being held without bail at the Delaware County Correctional Facility awaiting extradition to Florida.


Sidney village residents packed into room 202 of the Sidney civic center last night for a public hearing about the formation of a Sidney historic district, encompassing much of the original village lines.  Sidney village mayor Andy Matviak explains:

Mayor Matviak said that one of the key advantages would be tax breaks for projects on homes in the proposed historical district, many of those are still dealing with repairs from the 2011 floods.


Governor Cuomo vetoed 202 line items in the current state budget. Cuomo reported that he made 120 vetoes for projects where the money had already been spent, there were 4 member items that he rejected because they were trying to be re-purposed for other projects. About 45 vetoes were made for budget items that were appropriated in 2005 or earlier but were not spent. Over-rides of the vetoes are not expected.


The Skateboard Committee sponsored by the Sidney Youth Advocate program will be hosting a free ziti dinner next Thursday April 18th at the Sidney high school cafeteria.  Committee spokesperson Ronnie Haag explains:

Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s Arrested 20-year-old Kevin Clark of Walton on an Arrest warrant Issued by the Town of Masonville Court For Petty Larceny. CLARK was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $500 Cash Bail and Scheduled to reappear in the Masonville Town Court On April 16th.


Guilford Historical Society Social Presents “Chenango County Railroading” with John Taibi, tomorrow at 12:00 noon, at the Guilford Methodist Church   Taibi is the author of 10 books dealing with railroading subjects in Central New York, as well as over 110 short stories of similar subjects.   The event was rescheduled from last month due to inclement weather.

State Police arrested 37-year-old JOYCE PRINCE, of Johnson City, for 2ND Degree Criminal Sexual Act and endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person. The investigation revealed that PRINCE allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a male resident at the Prospect 1 residential group home in the Town of Dickinson.   Prince was arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court and was released on her own recognizance pending further court proceedings.  The investigation is continuing.


State Senator Jim Seward of Milford was 1 of the 18 state senators who opposed the states new gun control measure in Albany Monday:

The bill tightened up penalties for those who use guns while committee crimes, called for mental health professionals to report patients who may be dangerous & profess violent tendencies, the bill passed following the massacre at Sandy Creek Elementary school in neighboring Connecticut.


Voters in the Sidney central school district approved of both propositions yesterday.  Proposition one , which called for auditorium & athletic field  renovations and new boilers,  passed by a 539 to 321 vote, proposition 2 dealt with a capital reserve fund, it passed by a 581 to 272 vote.


The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 20-year-old Travis Demuth of Oxford for 2nd degree Criminal Contempt. Demuth was located in a motor vehicle with the protected party of the order of protection, during a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich, he was taken into custody, arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court & was remanded to the Chenango County jail on $500 cash bail to reappear at a later date.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 28-year-old Nicole Macomber of Greene on active Arrest Warrants for the charges of 4th degree Grand Larceny, 2nd degree Burglary & Petty Larceny.  Macomber was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and released on her own recognizance to re-appear in the Town of Greene Court on a later date.


State troopers in Binghamton arrested 22-year-old Jesse Villella of Port Crane for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Villella was arrested as the result of a traffic stop on State Route 11 in the Town of Dickinson & was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.


State Police at Stamford arrested 46 year old Sammy Truax of Hobart for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .21%. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop in the Stamford, Truax was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Stamford Court on February 21st.
