The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 26 year old Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn on Wednesday, he was wanted by the New York City Police Department on a homicide charge. Officers spotted Brown operating a motor vehicle in Binghamton, he attempted to flee at a high rate of speed, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident a short time later. Brown fled the accident scene on foot & he was taken into custody a short time later. Police seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, Brown was charged with Attempted Assault, Reckless Endangerment, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon plus Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest & Criminal Trespass.


Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Oneonta Job Corps on December 10th, where they located a male subject being restrained by security. 20-year-old Richard Polimeni assaulted another man with a barbell weight while working out in the gym, he was arrested for Attempted Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon and was being held at the Otsego County Jail pending court action .


19th Congressional District Representative Marc Molinaro will host swearing-in ceremonies in Broome County and Ulster County Saturday. The Broome County Ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM at the Kilmer Mansion at 9 Riverside Drive, the Oath will be administered by Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar, the 2nd ceremony will be in Saugerties at 4:00 PM Saturday, he will be sworn in there by former area Congressman Chris Gibson.


Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 46 year old Jamie Crowley of Windsor was sentenced to 7 years in prison with 5 years of post release supervision. Crowley was found guilty in Broome County Court by a Jury, for criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm & menacing following a an incident in Windsor in July of 2021, he was accused of pointing a weapon at a responding deputy, the deputy shot Crowley in the shoulder.


The Jericho Arts Council presents Remington Ryde at the Bainbridge Town Hal Theater Saturday night, Doors open at 6:00 PM at the concerts starts at 7:00 PM, Tickets are available at the door or you may reserve a ticket ahead by calling 607-288-3882. The Jericho Arts Council announced that they are looking for artists to paint Adirondack Chairs for this year's Regatta Row, spokesperson Rachel Hares explains:

The new Electric Vehicle Rights Act goes into effect tomorrow. The new law prohibits homeowners’ associations from preventing homeowners from installing EV charging stations on their properties.


The Rogers Center’s Board of Directors has hired David Carson to lead the environmental education center as the new executive director. Carson is a Central New York Native, the public is invited to meet Carson and the entire staff at Rogers’ annual Winter Living Celebration, Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm.

Ernest Franklin of Guilford was sentenced in Chenango County
Court Monday, to 21 years to life in state prison, for the murder of his
adopted and disabled teen son Jeffrey, and starting a fire at the family home
to cover it up, in February of 2017.
Franklin planned the murder with his wife, Heather Franklin, who
accepted a guilty plea to manslaughter; she has not been sentenced for her role
in the murder.


The Greater Chenango Cares event, with Military Medical
personnel performing medical dental & Veterinary services, will begin at
the Norwich High School this Thursday through July 20th.  The Chenango United Way is coordinating

Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced that Oneonta Attorney
Donald Schwartz has been appointed a part time City Judge.  Schwartz fills the position vacated by the

State Police arrested 36 year old Joshua Brown of West
Monroe, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While
Ability Impaired by Drugs. Troopers responded to County Road 32 in the town of
North Norwich for a 1-car accident, they located the vehicle in a corn field
with Brown behind the wheel.  Brown was
transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital for an evaluation.  An investigation yielded suspected
concentrated cannabis, LSD, mushrooms and Marihuana wax.  Brown was arraigned in the town of Norwich
court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000
property bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 26 year old
Alexander Dietrich of Hawley, Pennsylvania for DWI and Driving with a BAC
greater that 0.08%. The arrest occurred during the course of an investigation
of a reported one car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 17 in the Town of
Hancock.  Dietrich was arraigned in the
Town of Hancock Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional
Facility on $500 cash bail or $1,000 dollars secured bond pending future court
action.


Otsego County Sheriff’s Department arrested of a Town of
Laurens man found to be in possession of contraband in the Otsego County
Correctional Facility.  20 year old
Dakota Coffey was charged with Introduction of Dangerous Contraband After he
was found in possession of a vape pen containing THC oil hidden on his person
while being processed into the Otsego County Jail and it was located later by
staff after a search of his housing unit.
Coffey was arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court where he was released
on his own recognizance.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin held a joint news conference Wednesday afternoon in Dannemora, detailing the ways in which Vermont authorities are working to prepare in case David Sweat and Richard Matt headed there. David Sweat and Richard Matt escaped from the maximum-security prison Saturday, by drilling through a steel wall, crawled through a pipe and then escaped through a manhole cover outside, & they may have had help from a prison employee, Joyce Mitchell, according to State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico:

Sweat and Matt are still at large, & a $100,000 reward has been offered for information leading to their capture, Superintendent D'Amico urged the public to not take the law into their own hands:

Sweat was in prison for the 2002 murder of Broome County deputy Kevin Tarsia; Matt was in prison for Kidnapping & murder in Niagara County.
The Mayor Miller Memorial Task Force will hold their next meeting in Oneonta today. The task force was put together to recommend a way to memorialize former Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller, the meeting will be held at 5:00 PM at Oneonta City Hall today.

The Oneonta common council has appointed council members Mike Lynch & Larry Malone to co-chair the Mayor Richard Miller Memorial Task force. Both will be responsible for forwarding recommendations on how the city of Oneonta will honor Mayor Miller, who died last year nomination from the public can be emailed to dkendall@oneonta.ny.us, or may be mailed to Oneonta City Clerk Doug Kendall at 258 Main Street Oneonta 13820.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 43-year-old Kevin Young of Norwich Saturday. Young was arrested on an active arrest warrant from the Town of New Berlin Court for 2ndf degree Menacing & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Young was arraigned at the Town of Norwich Court & was released on his own recognizance and is to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Fox Hospital CEO John Remillard will retire from that position later this year, according to the Fox Hospital Board of Directors. Remillard has been the CEO at Fox since 1989; his resignation takes effect on December 31st.

A memorial service will be held this Sunday in Oneonta for mayor Richard Miller, who died from a self inflicted gunshot wound Saturday in his Oneonta home. Oneonta City Attorney David Merzig commented about mayor miller:

The memorial service will be held at the foothills performing Arts center starting at 4:00 PM Sunday.

State police reported that there has been a shooting on Route 7 near Peak Fitness in the town of Bainbridge earlier this afternoon, with injuries reported. State police said that the suspect has been arrested and is in custody. They advise that motorists stay away from Route 7 near the Peak Fitness area as the investigation & evidence Gathering is continuing.   Police believe that the shooter acted alone.

New York State Public Health has launched a new state information line to answer questions on Ebola. The info line is free and trained staff will answer questions 24/7, at 1-800-861-2280.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37 year old Dawn Bermel of Queens on a bench warrant issued by Town of Colchester Court for Speeding, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Operating a Motor vehicle while Impaired by Drugs and Driving While Intoxicated. Bermel was arraigned in Town Of Colchester Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1500 cash bail or $5000 bond. Bermel is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Colchester Court on November 4th.

Honda Civic owners beware. You own the mostly frequently stolen car in New York state. Last year, about 16,000 cars were stolen in New York state, with the Civic being the most stolen car. A survey by the NY Association for Pupil Transportation suggests more than 17,000 drivers passed a stopped school bus on October 21st. The survey was completed as part of National School Bus Safety Week. The survey involved 18 school districts across New York. The NPAPT said if the survey was expanded to the 50,000 busses on the road everyday in New York that would amount to 17,824 illegal passes on that single day. The NYAPT is calling upon the State Legislature and the Governor to enact legislation to allow the installation of Camera technology on school buses to enable law enforcment to apprehend illegal passers and issue tickets and fines

The City of Oneonta and its Common Council reported that Mayor Richard Miller died Saturday morning at 10:25 AM in his home. Miller served as Mayor of Oneonta since 2009, before that he served as President of Hartwick College in Oneonta. Otsego County Coroner James Hurley’s report stated that Miller died from a self-inflict gun shot wound.
State Police announced that 16 year old Paige Lott-Urich of Endwell has been located in the Binghamton area and in good health. the 16 year old was reported missing since July 16th, she was locate after a flurry of calls & activity following a posting by State Police on their Facebook page.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 39 year old Laura Griffin of Bainbridge for driving under the influence of drugs, following a traffic stop for moving violations in the Town of Norwich. Griffin just concluded visitation at the Chenango County Jail, where she was allegedly impaired. Griffin was processed and released to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

The nonprofit Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be visiting various communities around the state in the coming weeks, to provide the counseling and claim filing assistance.  The Mobile Service Office is free to all veterans and their families; it will be in Oneonta today from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at DAV Oneonta Chapter at 279 Chestnut Street.

State police responded to a 2-vehicle accident with 9 injuries at around 7:30 this morning in Madison County.  Reports said that a Department of Transportation dump truck hit a Sherburne Earlville school district van, after the district vehicle went through a stop sign in Smithfield.  Troopers reported that the school van was carrying 6 teachers to Syracuse, the DOT Truck had 3 passengers, both vehicles went off the road & both overturned.   All 9 were taken to area hospitals, the investigation is continuing.


The State Labor Department today released unemployment rates for May. The state's unemployment rate was 7.6% in May, locally Chenango County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9%, Delaware County’s rate dropped 4/10’s to 7.9% and Otsego County’s rate dropped ½% to 6.9% in May.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested an unidentified 16-year-old female from Guilford on a charge of 2nd degree harassment.  The juvenile was arrested after an investigation into a fight on a school bus where the suspect struck the victim in the head and face several times.  The juvenile will appear in the Town of Guilford Court at a later date.


State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Vestal and Endicott Police Departments executed a search warrant this morning & arrested 37 year old Raheem Gibson & 35 year old Ann Vargas of Westover on charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police confiscated cocaine, marihuana, and a scale; both were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Union Court at a later date.


State troopers arrested 31-year-old Howard Archer of Unadilla for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in the Town of Unadilla; Archer was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court on July 8th.


The 2013 farm aid concerts will come to the Saratoga performing arts center later this year. The show will be on Saturday September 21, featuring John Mellencamp, Willie nelson, Neil young, Dave Matthews and many other, tickets will go on sale on Friday.


Delaware County’s solid waste composting facility has been operating for 7 years now, and the product from the facility is sold daily for a number of reasons.  Solid waste management coordinator Sue McIntyre explains:

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested a Pennsylvania resident on an active Family Court Warrant.  27-year-old Alfredo Gonzalez of Browndale, Pennsylvania was wanted on a warrant issued by the Chenango County Family Court for failure to pay child support; he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional facility on $1,000 purge or to serve a 60 day sentence.
