The City of Oneonta and its Common Council reported that Mayor Richard Miller died Saturday morning at 10:25 AM in his home. Miller served as Mayor of Oneonta since 2009, before that he served as President of Hartwick College in Oneonta. Otsego County Coroner James Hurley’s report stated that Miller died from a self-inflict gun shot wound.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 39 year old Laura Griffin of Bainbridge for driving under the influence of drugs, following a traffic stop for moving violations in the Town of Norwich. Griffin just concluded visitation at the Chenango County Jail, where she was allegedly impaired. Griffin was processed and released to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

State Police in Oneonta investigated a 2-car fatal motor vehicle accident on State Route 23 in the Town of Oneonta Tuesday morning. The investigation revealed that 66-year-old Francis Gesel of Massachusetts crossed into the westbound lane into the path of a Hyundai operated by 62-year-old Terry Church of Oneonta. Gesel was transported to Fox Hospital for a broken foot and chest pain, Church was pronounced dead at the scene by Otsego County Coroner James Hurley. The investigation is continuing.
Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 44-year-old Michael Pollock of Pharsalia for Felony DWI, Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, Unlicensed Operator, and Failure to Keep Right. Pollock was stopped for moving violations in the Town of Preston, he is accused of operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state, with an expired driver’s license, and his driving privileges were revoked from a prior DWI. Pollock was processed and released to appear at a later date in the Town of Preston Court.
The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 25-year-old Michael Gulotty of Norwich on an active Arrest Warrant out of the Town of Norwich Court for 2nd degree Aggravated Harassment. Gulotty is accused of calling and sending text messages to the victim after being warned by the Sheriff’s Office to stop. Gulotty was arraigned at the Town of Preston Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $2,500 cash bail pending action in the Town of Preston Court at a later date.
