The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Thursday into Friday, local Meteorologist Rich Townsend told WCDO News that flash flooding is a concern:

The Village of Sidney Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Committee will be getting surveys out to village residents soon, to get public input regarding the Sidney Police Department. Sheri Youngs is co-chair of the committee:

After the public input is collected, the committee will draft a reform and reinvention plan & they will make changes as needed and submit the revised plan to the Village board for approval, in March the approved plan will then be submitted to New York State.
The Broome County Sheriff's Department arrested 45-year-old William Applegate of Nineveh after a deputy pulled him over while knowing that Applegate did not have a valid license. Applegate was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance & aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle & he faces court action at a later date.
New York's Wadsworth Laboratory in Albany has begun research of the new, more contagious COVID-19 strain discovered in England, they have looked at more than 3,700 virus sequences & they have not found that variant present in any of their random samples, Governor Cuomo commented about the state labs at today's COVID briefing in Albany:

The Wadsworth Lab and the Department of Health have made agreements with 6 hospitals from across the State to obtain additional samples for further research and are making arrangements with other hospitals to do the same, in order to find out if that virus variant is here in New York State.
The First COVID vaccines have been given at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, on Tuesday, Dr. Jason Joseph became the first to receive a COVID vaccine in Chenango County. Chenango Memorial Vice President of Service Coordination & Development, Chris Kisacky told WCDO about the arrival & distribution of the vaccines:

Kisacky said that the 1st group of recipients getting the vaccine includes medical providers, ICU nurses, Emergency Department staff, lab personnel, a respiratory therapist and other hospital staff members.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Bonnie Tanner of Hobart for Cruelty to animals, after deputies discovered 2 deceased dogs & one malnourished dog in her apartment. The Investigation revealed that the dogs had been held in a single bedroom for the past 6 months and had not been provided adequate food, water or veterinary care. Tanner surrendered the malnourished dog to the Dog Control Officer and it was transported to the Delaware County Humane Society in Sidney for evaluation and treatment. Tanner was issued an appearance ticket for Stamford Town Court at a later date.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that the bipartisan appropriations package includes $6 billion in funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for the WIC program. Nationwide, 1 in 5 parents do not have enough money to feed their children since the pandemic hit, Millions continue to be affected by widespread business closures and subsequent job loss and more households are relying on social safety nets to feed themselves and their families.
The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for November. The State’s seasonally adjusted private sector jobs increased over the month by 36,300, or 0.5%, the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 9.2% to 8.4%. Locally, Chenango County was down to 4.6%, Delaware County 4.7% & Otsego County 4.9% in November.
Delaware County Public Health reported 7 new COVID cases Tuesday, they still have 95 active cases and 306 are in quarantine.

State Police arrested 29 year old Norman Shaheen of Smithville following a raid on his residence last week. Police seized 339 grams of methamphetamine, as well as a shotgun, a handgun, drug paraphernalia & packaging materials, he was charged with criminal possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of firearms, he is being held in jail pending court proceedings.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded Saturday to a residence on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi to execute a State Parole Warrant; they arrested 23-year-old Jonathon Stein of Delhi, on the Parole Warrant as well as for Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument when the warrant was executed. Stein was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail on the Parole Warrant.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand urged Congress to invest $6 billion in the WIC program in the Fiscal Year 2021 Agriculture Appropriations bill.

New York State WIC providers have reported 3% increased need since the pandemic began many other states were well into the double digits in increased need for WIC's services.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they had 52 active cases of COVID 19 today, with 5 people hospitalized & 295 quarantined. Chenango County has had 643 cases of the virus since March with 564 recoveries; they have performed over 45200 tests.
Delaware Academy announced that a student tested positive for COVID 19, their middle and high schools moved to fully remote instruction yesterday & again today. The student was last in attendance on Tuesday, November 24th; Students will be notified today regarding tomorrow's instructional plans.
The Latest vote count in the 22nd Congressional District has now swung back to give Republican Claudia Tenney the lead over incumbent Democrat Anthony Brindisi. All of the Counties have to certify their vote totals, State Supreme Court Justice Scott DelConte ordered each of the 8 counties in the congressional district to submit a final, unofficial count to the court by yesterday afternoon, the next court action is expected next Monday December 7th, when Judge DelConte is expected to rule on
2000 disputed ballots.

Governor Cuomo today announced New York's annual statewide holiday donation drive to benefit families in need across the state begins today. Donations of new unwrapped toys, coats and school supplies are being sought to assist community-based organizations during the holiday giving season. The Office of General Services has set up drop-off locations across the state through Wednesday, December 16. COVID-19 protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of those dropping off donations including masks, social distancing, and access to hand sanitizer. The drop-off locations include the Binghamton State Office Building, 44 Hawley St., Binghamton & the Homer Folks Facility, 28 Hill Street Oneonta.
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul Visits the Chenango County Historical Society Museum and she will visit Businesses Downtown Norwich today, Hochul’s visit will start around 1:45 PM.
Delaware County Public Health released their latest COVID 19 numbers Monday, they report 14 new cases, they have 71 active cases, 4 people are hospitalized, 234 are quarantined, and they have had 372 cases since March with 9 deaths & 292 recoveries.
Otsego County Department of Health reported 19 new COVID cases Monday, bringing them to 1314 total confirmed cases since March. There are 89 active cases, 4 are hospitalized there have been 8 deaths, 764 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 71 to Hartwick College.

The Broome County Health Department reported 82 new cases of COVID 19; they are up to 2468 positive cases of COVID 19. They report 83 deaths, 1752 recoveries & they are monitoring 3747 people.
Chenango County Health Department reported that they have had 10 news positive cases of COVID 19 since last week; they are up to 277 cases, with 17 active cases, 1 hospitalization & 168 active quarantines. They report 7 deaths, 242 recoveries and over 32,000 tests have been performed.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is proceeding quickly with confirmation hearings on Judge Amy Coney Barrett, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said that Judge Coney-Barret’s appointment increases the threat of repealing health care for millions of Americans and the future of the Affordable Care Act, & would hurt many New Yorkers:

Senator Gillibrand said that instead of rushing to fill the seat on the Supreme Court, the Senate should be rushing another stimulus bill to Americans & small businesses to help recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
Congressman Anthony Brindisi today announced 2 grants in New York’s 22nd district, totaling nearly $1 million. The funds come from the United States Department of Agriculture as part of their Rural Development grant program. The Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES was awarded $683,692 to help provide access to Science Technology Engineering and Math courses for high school students preparing for college or to enter the workforce. The Southern Tier Health Care System was awarded $218,557 to help fund education and training for opioid and substance abuse services in rural New York.
The city of Oneonta’s Former city manager George Korthauer left that position earlier this year, the Oneonta Common Council has yet to fill that position. The Council met Monday to discuss whether they will keep the position as is, or change the title to a city administrator, with slightly different tasks. The council made no decisions Monday & will address the topic again at a meeting next Monday.

The Town of New Berlin will hold a Public Hearing today, regarding the town budget crunch. The hearing will begin at 5:45 at the Town Hall; the board may even consider disbanding the town Police Department to save $180,000 in costs.
55 year old George Knarich of New Lisbon was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff's Department for allegedly organized the New York Harvest Festival and Freedom Fair in Otsego County over the weekend after the Otsego County Health Department issued a cease and desist order to stop the event. Knarich is accused of violating Governor Cuomo’s executive orders banning mass gatherings, and is facing trespassing and criminal nuisance charges, he was taken into custody and is being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court action, the investigation is ongoing, and another arrest is pending.

The State Health Department tested 96,359 New Yorkers for COVID 19 Monday, with 1393 new positives reported, the state total since March is over 466,900. Hospitalizations increased again to 705 statewide, there are 158 patients in ICU Beds & 72 are on Ventilators. There were 9 more deaths reported from the Virus Monday, the state death toll was up to 25,536.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich today announced that they have re-instated visitor restrictions, following the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Chenango County and the Southern Tier. The Visitor Restrictions will be at the hospital and all of its off-site locations, with some limited restrictions regarding end of life patients & pediatric care. In addition, all patients, staff, vendors and visitors will continue to be screened upon arrival at any UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital location. State Senator Jim Seward & local officials gathered Monday to dedicate a part of State Route 205 in the town of Hartwick to Sergeant John Kempe Winslow of Hartwick. Winslow was killed in the line of duty in July of 1969 in Vietnam, he was 22 years old.

Governor Cuomo announced that 665 people tested positive Tuesday for COVID 19, after almost 71,000 tests were administered statewide. The state has had over 451,800 positive cases since March, there were 5 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State, and the death toll is up to 25,437. 490 patients are hospitalized, 141 are in an ICU bed and 68 were on ventilators Tuesday.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are still at 248 total cases of COVID 19, with 4 active cases, & 77 quarantines. Currently, no one is hospitalized, 225 have recovered & over 27,500 tests have been performed.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County is now accepting registration for the 2020 Catskills Youth Climate Virtual Summit on 4 Thursdays starting October 1st through November 12th on Zoom. The Otsego County Department of Health, Bassett Medical Center & NYS Department of Health has partnered to provide a rapid testing to Otsego County residents today from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Foothills Performing Arts Center on Market Street in Oneonta, for those who pre-register at 547-4279.
Delaware County Public Health reports that a County COVID-19 positive patient has passed away at a local hospital. Since last Friday Delaware County has received 3 new positive COVID-19 test results and 2 additional recoveries. The known active cases in the County as of today remains 3, 2 people are isolated and receiving care at home and 1 person is in the hospital. To date there have been 120 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 10 people now under mandatory quarantine, 7 people have died and 110 have fully recovered.
The State Labor department released the Unemployment rates for August. The State rate went down to 12.5% in August, Locally, Chenango County had 7.4%, Delaware County had 7.7% and Otsego County had 8% unemployment.

Governor Cuomo released the latest statewide numbers for COVID 19 on Wednesday. Over 75,000 tests were conducted, 652 positive tests were diagnosed, about .87% of all tested. The State has had over 447,000 cases of COVID 19 since March, there were 483 people hospitalized, 4 people died on Wednesday from the virus, the death toll is 25,413.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are still at 245 COVID 19 positive cases, with 3 active cases, 1 hospitalization, and 104 quarantines. They have had 7 deaths, 220 Recoveries & have performed 26264 tests.
Local & State Officials remind area resident that there is still time to respond to the Census. So Far, 93% of New Yorkers have filled out the Census, those who have not, can call 844-330-2020 or online at my2020census.gov. The 2020 Census deadline is September 30th.
19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado announced $475,000 in federal funding from the Office on Violence Against Women for the Transitional Housing Assistance Program at Opportunities for Otsego. The award will provide funding for 42 residences for survivors and their families through private landlord housing units. The grant also allows Opportunities for Otsego to expand their resources to assist victims of domestic violence through rental and utility subsidies, career and financial counseling and other supportive services.
U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Bernie Sanders of Vermont announce their new legislation to re-establish Postal Banking at the US Post office.

The proposal would provide basic banking services to low-income and rural communities and potentially create approximately $9 billion in revenue for the Postal Service and save it from privatization. Senator Gillibrand said that Postal Banking was a successful service for about 50 years previously, she originally introduced the Postal Banking Act in 2018 & re-introduced it again today.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 Norwich for allegedly stealing 8 Catalytic Converters from cars at a Norwich Dealership. 35 year old Paul Knuth Jr. & 36 year old Samuel Furlong were charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief & conspiracy, for removing the Converters selling them, causing about $11,000 damage to the vehicles, both were issued appearance tickets for town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Binghamton Police have arrested 28-year-old Macoley Saunders of Binghamton on charges of Attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, Criminal possession of a firearm, Assault & Resisting arrest, plus charges relating to a domestic dispute in July. Saunders was located riding on the back of a motorcycle on Main Street in Johnson City. He led police on a pursuit on Route 17 going the wrong way in an attempt to evade police, Eventually, Saunders led police on a foot chase. A Binghamton K9 was able to take him down, a struggled ensued, and Saunders was able to fire one shot toward police officers before being disarmed. Saunders is currently being held in the Broome County Jail.
The Catholic Charities community food distribution will be held Today in Sidney. Those who would like to volunteer should arrive to the Sidney Fire department site on River Street by 8:30 AM Thursday, and the food giveaway begins at 10:00 AM. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that state tax receipts are $3.2 billion lower than last year, as he released the State Cash Report for August. DiNapoli noted state tax receipts of $4.3 billion in August were $219.1 million below collections in August 2019, due to the COVID 19 pandemic & subsequent shutdown. Personal income tax collections were 6.4% lower than last year. Sales tax receipts were 20.2% lower than last year & August sales tax receipts were 7.8% below those a year earlier.

The Governor said that when Halloween comes around, Guidance will be issued, he also said that the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held in a virtual format this year. State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker announced nursing homes in New York will be allowed to resume limited visitations for facilities that have been without COVID-19 for at least 14 days, a revision to the 28 day guidelines previously set by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This updated guidance will allow eligible visitation in approximately 500 of the state’s 613 nursing homes. State Police at Oneonta arrested 26 year old Eric Meade of Oneonta for Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Trespass, following a complaint of a theft in progress on South Side Drive in the town of Oneonta Sunday morning. Troopers spotted Meade, who was in possession of coins that were allegedly stolen out of unlocked cars on South Side Drive. The investigation also revealed he had also taken items from an unlocked vehicle on Glen Drive. Meade was processed then released on appearance tickets to the town of Oneonta court on October 20, 2020.

Governor Cuomo announced that 6 states have been removed from the travel advisory requiring 14 day quarantines after arriving in New York State. The Governor said that California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio Are Removed. The Full list is at coronavirus.health.ny.gov.
State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker announced nursing homes in New York will be allowed to resume limited visitations for facilities that have been without COVID-19 for at least 14 days, a revision to the 28 day guidelines previously set by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This updated guidance will allow eligible visitation in approximately 500 of the state’s 613 nursing homes. The guidelines go into effect Thursday; they require visitors to present a verified negative test result within the last seven days. More information is available at health.ny.gov/facilities.

Otsego County Department of Health announced 3 new cases were reported for COVID 19, 2 were close contacts of a positive and 1 had no identified exposure. Currently, the county reports 684 confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta, 15 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students, there are 42 active cases currently residing in the county. There have been 844 total confirmed cases & there are no hospitalizations. There will be free rapid testing at the Armory in Oneonta from 9am-6pm today, call 547-4279 to register.
Delaware County Public Health received no positive lab reports for COVID-19 Wednesday, they still report 117 total Positive tests since March, 108 have recovered, 3 active cases are recovering at home, 6 have died, 61 are quarantined & Delaware County Public Health has conducted Results 16535 tests.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 26 year old Eric Meade of Oneonta for Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Criminal Trespass, following a complaint of a theft in progress on South Side Drive in the town of Oneonta Sunday morning. Troopers spotted Meade, who was in possession of coins that were allegedly stolen out of unlocked cars on South Side Drive. The investigation also revealed he had also taken items from an unlocked vehicle on Glen Drive. Meade was processed then released on appearance tickets to the town of Oneonta court on October 20, 2020.

Governor Cuomo announced that 576 new COVID 19 cases were discovered Tuesday out of more than 63,200 tests performed statewide, a rate of .91%, the 33rd straight day that the state has had 1% or less. 463 are hospitalized, 121 are in ICU beds & 59 were on ventilators, there were 3 deaths, bringing the state death toll to 25,370 over the last 6 months.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are up to 239 positive cases of COVID 19. They have 9 active cases with 1 hospitalization, 107 people are in quarantine, there have been 7 deaths and 209 recoveries, and they have performed over 24,600 tests.
State Police arrested 48 year old Chrisanthon Santana of Bronx on September 2nd for Criminal Possession of marihuana, after a trooper monitoring traffic on I-88 in the town of Sidney observed a vehicle make several violations. A traffic stop was initiated on State Route 8, which resulted in the discovery of over 28 pounds of marihuana. Santana was virtually arraigned and released; he faces court action in the town of Sidney court on September 24th.
State Police arrested 35 year old Vincent Palmisano Jr. of Grand Gorge for Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlawfully Fleeing from a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Resisting Arrest. A trooper on patrol in Grand Gorge observed Palmisano operating a motor vehicle, who the trooper knows from past experience to be unlicensed, Palmisano failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated and Palmisano drove into a yard, jumped out the vehicle and ran into the woods.
A foot pursuit ensued with the trooper and his K9 partner, Palmisano was bit by the K9 and taken into custody, he was virtually arraigned & was remanded without bail to the Delaware County Correction Facility.
The Town of Masonville Board meeting that was postponed last week has been rescheduled. The meeting will be held this evening at 7:00 PM at the Masonville town Building.

Otsego County Department of Health continues to investigate a large outbreak of Coronavirus involving SUNY Oneonta. On Tuesday, 16 new cases were reported; all are linked to SUNY Oneonta. The County reports 823 total confirmed cases, 701 confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta, 11 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students, there are no hospitalizations.
Delaware County Public Health is reporting no new positive test results for COVID-19 and no additional recoveries, the known active cases remains 6, all are recovering at home. To date there have been 114 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 73 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 102 have fully recovered.
State Police arrested 34 year old Robert Youngblood of South New Berlin, for Over-driving, Torturing and Injuring Animals, Criminal Contempt, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Making a False Statement. On August 16, a trooper was dispatched to Dunhams Cross Road in the town of Butternuts, where they discovered that a 6-month old pig had been shot multiple times with a pellet gun. The pig was alive but in obvious distress. Youngblood was additionally charged with violating an order of protection while he was in the trooper’s presence. Youngblood was issued appearance tickets to the town of Butternuts court for September 24th & to the town of Unadilla court for September 21st.
State Senator Jim Seward announced that Mallory Delaney of Oneonta has been chosen as the 2020 New York State Senate "Woman of Distinction" from the 51st senate district. Delaney practices internal medicine in Oneonta at Bassett Healthcare Network. She has been in practice for five years, and has particular areas of interest in addiction recovery and in the care of medically complex adults.

Delaware County Sheriff's Department arrested 6 people for a seasonal residence burglary in the Town of Andes On August 18th. Deputies responded to a seasonal home located on Shaver Hollow Road in the Town of Andes where the home owner reported discovering forced entry into his residence and the theft of a garden tractor. Deputies discovered the stolen tractor dismantled outside of a neighboring residence, they arrested 4 youths, ages 11 to 14 for 1 count each of burglary, criminal mischief & grand larceny, a 17 -year old was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, their grandmother, 61 year-old Kathleen Shaffer of Andes was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of stolen property. All face court action at a later date.

State Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against the Trump administration aimed at stopping an effort to disrupt operations at the U.S. Postal Service at a time when a pandemic has prompted millions more people than usual to plan to vote by mail. The lawsuit names President Trump, the postal service and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, it asks the court to vacate recent changes made to the U.S. Postal Service and to stop it from implementing additional service reductions. New York was joined in this lawsuit by New Jersey, Hawaii, New York City and San Francisco. 6 states sued the U.S. Postal Service and the new postmaster general on August 21st, citing the same concerns.

There were 566 positive COVID 19 cases out 71,189 tests administered, bringing the state total since March to 431,340. The number of hospitalizations was at 492, the number of ICU patients was at 136, the number of patients on ventilators was 54 and there were 3 COVID-19 Deaths in the State Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 25,305.
The state of New York dropped its manufacturing grade to an "F" from a "D-", according to an annual manufacturing survey conducted by Ball State University's Center for Business and Economic Research. New York maintained a C for logistics, D for worker benefit costs, C for expected fiscal liability, B for sector diversification, C- for human capital, F for tax climate, & D for global reach.
The Broome County Health Department announced that they have had 1176 total COVID 19 cases since March. They announced 3 more deaths, bring their total to 78, there have been 1028 recoveries, 559 are being monitored by the department, they have conducted over 36,200 tests.
Chenango County Public Health released today's COVID 19 numbers. The department reports 223 total cases, with 83 Active Quarantines, 1 Hospitalization, 7 deaths, 200 total Recoveries; they have conducted over 21,500 tests.
Following a report detailing how federal dollars set aside for farmers during the pandemic in the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program have gone to large corporate farms, while small family farms have received relatively little help, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand demands that the U.S. Department of Agriculture respond to that inequitable distribution. In the meantime Senator Gillbrand has proposed the Relief For America's Small Farmers Act in the next coronavirus relief package:

Neither student had visited the college campus during their communicable period, nor college officials announced that they have arranged to make one of their residence halls set up to house COVID positive students only. All contacts with the 2 affected students have been notified and are quarantined for 14 days. Otsego County now has 119 total confirmed cases, 6 active cases, 1 is hospitalized, 107 have recovered, and 24 people are on quarantine for close contact to a case, 167 people are on quarantine for traveling to a high risk state, there have been 6 deaths.
Delaware County Public Health had no new positive tests for COVID-19 and no additional recoveries to report. The known active cases in the County as of today remains 3, all are isolated at home, to date there have been 101 confirmed positive cases in Delaware County, with 26 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 92 have fully recovered.
State Police arrested 25 year old Dillon Clapp of Endicott for 3rd degree Burglary, for allegedly breaking into a garage in the town of Otselic about a year ago and stole various automotive parts, which were sold to a scrap yard in Onondaga County. Clapp was processed and arraigned virtually & he was released on his own recognizance pending court action September 14th in the town of Otselic.
The State Labor Department released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2020. The State’s unemployment rate increased was 15.9% in July 2020, locally; Chenango County had 9.9% unemployment, Delaware County 10.3% and Otsego County 10.7%

Governor Cuomo today signed into law sweeping election reforms that will make it easier for New Yorkers to vote and be counted in November. The 3-part package includes new measures allowing absentee ballot applications to be submitted to the Board of Elections immediately, expanding the necessary protections to allow a voter to get an absentee ballot due to risk or fear of illness including COVID-19 and ensuring all absentee ballots postmarked on or before Election Day or received by the Board of Elections without a postmark on the day after the Election will be counted. Ballots with a postmark demonstrating that they were mailed on or before Election Day will be counted if received by November 10.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 39 year old Daniel Merwin of Jefferson for the 1st degree Assault, plus Menacing, Criminal Mischief & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, they also arrested 37 year old Jeremy Chase of Harpersfield for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Menacing & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a dispute between neighbors with a shot fired. Merwin is accused of striking Chase with a wooden fence post & using his vehicle to damage a fence, Chase is accused shooting a firearm into the ground, and the altercation allegedly took place in the presence of children. Merwin and Chase were processed & will appear at the town of Harpersfield court on August 24th.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $286,263 in federal funding to expand nursing opportunities and combat workforce shortages in the Southern Tier. The funding will be used to establish clinical education and training programs in the region at UHS, SUNY and Broome County hospitals. The Appalachian Regional Commission will provide $110,111 of the total $286,263 project fund.
Representatives from Casinos across the state were rallying in Albany today, as they seek guidance from the Governor's Office & The State Health Department in order to re-open. Todd Chandler is the Assistant General Manager & Regional Director of Marketing for Tioga Downs; he told WCDO News that they have taken all the precautions for reopening, and casinos are always under intense scrutiny:

Chandler said that if Tioga Downs does not reopen by October 1st, the furloughed employees would officially become unemployed. About 5000 New Yorkers were employed at casinos prior to the beginning of the pandemic & the subsequent shutdown.

There were 601 new cases discovered Wednesday, about .78% of all those tested, which brings the state total to over 427,800. There are 518 people Hospitalized, 120 are in an ICU, 62 are on ventilators, there were 5 deaths from the virus, the state death toll since March is 25,275

Broome County Health Department reported a small increase in their COVID 19 positive tests; they are up to 1128 total cases since March, with 75 deaths, 989 recoveries, and 500 being monitored by the Health Department. The have performed over 34,300 tests.
State Police arrested 21 year old Jordan Pratt of Ithaca for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Troopers monitoring traffic on I-88 in Otego observed a vehicle a traffic infraction, troopers detected an odor of marijuana; Pratt is accused of possessing 2 illegal and loaded handguns and a quantity of drugs. The driver and 2 other passengers were not charged. Pratt was arraigned virtually and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will host its 34th Annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament today at the Oneonta Country Club, with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. The event will follow all Social Distancing Guidelines and Safety Protocols. A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to the Community Foundation of Otsego County. Delaware County received 1 new positive test result for COVID-19 Wednesday and 1 additional recovery is reported. The number of active cases in the County is 3, they are isolated & recovering at home, there have been 100 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 23 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 91 have fully recovered.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 39 year old Daniel Merwin of Jefferson for the 1st degree Assault, plus Menacing, Criminal Mischief & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, they also arrested 37 year old Jeremy Chase of Harpersfield for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Menacing & 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a dispute between neighbors with a shot fired. Merwin is accused of striking Chase with a wooden fence post & using his vehicle to damage a fence, Chase is accused shooting a firearm into the ground, and the altercation allegedly took place in the presence of children. Merwin and Chase were processed & will appear at the town of Harpersfield court on August 24th.
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $286,263 in federal funding to expand nursing opportunities and combat workforce shortages in the Southern Tier. The funding will be used to establish clinical education and training programs in the region at UHS, SUNY and Broome County hospitals. The Appalachian Regional Commission will provide $110,111 of the total $286,263 project fund.
Representatives from Casinos across the state were rallying in Albany today, as they seek guidance from the Governor's Office & The State Health Department in order to re-open. Todd Chandler is the Assistant General Manager & Regional Director of Marketing for Tioga Downs; he told WCDO News that they have taken all the precautions for reopening, and casinos are always under intense scrutiny:

Chandler said that if Tioga Downs does not reopen by October 1st, the furloughed employees would officially become unemployed. About 5000 New Yorkers were employed at casinos prior to the beginning of the pandemic & the subsequent shutdown.
Governor Cuomo and the State Health Department announced the latest statewide COVID 19 numbers on Wednesday. There were 601 new cases discovered Wednesday, about .78% of all those tested, which brings the state total to over 427,800. There are 518 people Hospitalized, 120 are in an ICU, 62 are on ventilators, there were 5 deaths from the virus, the state death toll since March is 25,275
Chenango county Public Health released their latest COVID 19 numbers today. They are still at 218 total cases & have been for several days, they report that there are 101 Active Quarantines, 1 current Hospitalization, 7 deaths, 199 Recoveries and over 20,270 tests have been administered.
Broome County Health Department reported a small increase in their COVID 19 positive tests; they are up to 1128 total cases since March, with 75 deaths, 989 recoveries, and 500 being monitored by the Health Department. The have performed over 34,300 tests.
State Police arrested 21 year old Jordan Pratt of Ithaca for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Troopers monitoring traffic on I-88 in Otego observed a vehicle a traffic infraction, troopers detected an odor of marijuana; Pratt is accused of possessing 2 illegal and loaded handguns and a quantity of drugs. The driver and 2 other passengers were not charged. Pratt was arraigned virtually and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
