Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti rallied in support of the family of Brennan Loveless, the 13-year-old boy hit by a vehicle on January 1, 2023, while riding his bike on State Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs. 37 year old Bradley Law of Harpursville, fled the scene and staged a fake accident with a deer the following day in an effort to cover up the damage to the truck. Law was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide, but agreed to plead guilty to criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, for which he was slated to receive 2 concurrent sentences of 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison. Law faced other unrelated charges, & was sentenced to 2 consecutive sentences, a total of 2 and 2/3 years to 8 years. The Loveless’ family was recently notified that Law is scheduled to be interviewed by the Parole Board soon, today Sheriff Akshar & DA Battisti urged residents to contact the State Parole Board and recommend a denial of parole for Law, online at doccs.ny.gov, the DIN number is 23B5664


The Otsego County Industrial Development Agency has sold 34 acres of land at the Oneonta Business Park to Sportsfield Specialties of Delhi. Meaghan Remillard of the Otsego IDA explains:

Remillard said that Sportsfield Specialties needed additional space to continue to expand the Delhi based business, they also have other sites in Deposit & in North Carolina.


Clover Valley 8-ounce Instant Coffee sold at Dollar General stores across New York State is being recalled due to the potential presence of glass fragments. The recall affects Clover Valley 8-ounce Instant Coffee with specific lot numbers and "best by" dates of December 13th or 14th. The recall was initiated after a customer reported finding glass fragments in the coffee, according to Dollar General Corporate Offices, Ingesting glass can cause serious injuries, including damage to teeth, mouth and throat, or even perforation of the intestine. If you purchased this coffee, Return it to Dollar General for a refund or replacement.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Christopher Romano of Otego on an Arrest Warrant from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Romano was located in the Town of Butternuts and taken into custody without incident, and he was turned over to Chenango County Sheriff’s to answer his warrant.

36 year old Honesty Muller of Hamden appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Muller was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision, On October 29, 2024, Muller was pulled over by a Delaware County Deputy in Delhi, a search was conducted and methamphetamine was located in her wallet.


43 year old Thomas Mould of Stamford, appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced for Criminal Sexual Act, to 4 years in state prison and 8 years of post-release supervision. On June 23, 2024, State Police were dispatched for a domestic dispute in Stamford, in regard to Mould’s alleged molestation of a child under the age of 17. Mould was found at his place of employment and arrested, he gave a statement to police admitting that he did touch the victim and he knew that the victim was under the age of 17.


The State Department of Health is monitoring an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, with reported cases in New York City & into the Hudson Valley. 35 cases were reported in the lower Hudson Valley, there were 83 confirmed cases in New York City with 21 hospitalizations & 3 deaths reported. The disease is a type of pneumonia caused by bacteria that grow in warm water.


The City of Norwich announced that they have contracted with ArborPro to inventory the City's Trees within the city's Right of Way through the end of September. The ArborPro Staff will be measuring Street & Park Trees & locating potential Planting spaces for future trees in the city. Public Meetings will be announced soon.

Delaware County Deputies responded Saturday night, to Gregory Hollow Road in the Town of Colchester for a report of a truck stuck in a brook. Upon arrival, Deputies identified a male walking away from the scene, as 44-year-old Jesse Luscomb of Hamden. Luscomb had traveled onto private property with a vehicle and caused significant damage to the property, ultimately becoming disabled in mud. Luscomb was charged DWI, Uninspected Motor Vehicle and Leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Reckless Criminal Mischief & Trespassing, Luscomb was processed and was then transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.


The Mount Upton Water District is conducting a lead service line inspection, to find out if residents have lead pipes bringing water into their homes, Guilford Town Supervisor Sue McIntyre explains:

State Police arrested 26 year old James Christ Jr. of Deposit for 1st degree Assault & 2nd degree Manslaughter. Troopers were dispatched Friday to Fair Street in Deposit after a toddler became unresponsive. Following an investigation, it was determined that Christ recklessly caused the death of the child. Christ was arrested late Friday and arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail. This investigation is on-going.


Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at 516 Central Street in Endicott last Wednesday. The target of the search warrant was 55 year old Gregg Stroud, During the search, officers located Methamphetamine, Amphetamines, Adderall, Scales and packaging used for the distribution of narcotics. Stroud was charged with multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree, he was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for processing and arraignment.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Brendan Rose of Milford following an investigation of a personal injury motor vehicle accident. Rose was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Leaving the scene of personal injury accident, Reckless Driving, Unlicensed Operator, Rose fled the scene following the accident & was found to have a suspended New York State Driver's License, he was issued Appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.


Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol responded Sunday to an accident involving an overturned milk truck near Exit 83 on Route 17 in Deposit. Non-life-threatening injuries were reported, 1 lane was closed for several hours for the investigation & clean up.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 26 year old Christina Vitale of Arkville, on an Arrest Warrant Issued by the Delaware County Family Court for a violation of the Family Court Act, and also 1 Count each of Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Deputies observed Vitale operating a motor vehicle in the Town of Middletown, they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Vitale exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area where she was located and taken into custody. Vitale was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending action by the Delaware County Family Court; she is scheduled to return to the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.
The City of Oneonta Airport Commission will hold two special meetings in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall tomorrow. The only item on the agenda for these meetings is the interview of representatives of firms who had responded to the City’s request for proposals for provision of airport-consultant services for the next 5 years. The meetings are scheduled for 10:00 am and 11:00am. The public is welcome to attend.
The Greene Fire Department is receiving $25,000 in federal grant funding, according to US Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. The Greene Fire Department is getting the funds through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program; they use the funding to purchase new turnout gear for their volunteer firefighters.
State Police at Sidney arrested 44 year old Thomas Hewitt of Worcester for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, it was also discovered he had an active warrant in Cobleskill. A trooper observed Hewitt operating at a high rate of speed on State Route 8 in Sidney, the vehicle was stopped, Hewitt was arrested and arraigned in the town of Sidney Court. He was turned over to the Cobleskill Police Department to answer to the charges on the warrant. His next court date in the town of Sidney Court is August 23rd.
State Police arrested 20 year old Paige Hendee of Bainbridge for Endangering the Welfare of a Child. A trooper was dispatched to County Route 38 in Bainbridge Saturday after a report of toddlers in the roadway unattended; Hendee was unaware that the children left the residence because she was sleeping. She was subsequently arrested and released on an appearance ticket to the town of Bainbridge Court returnable on August 16th.

The Unatego School Board has decided to sell the former Otego Elementary School building, to AgZeit LLC, at last night's special board meeting. Unatego Superintendent Dave Richards comments:

The board approved the vote by a 4 to 2 margin, AgZeit plans to use the building for an indoor organic agriculture program.
State Police investigated an accident Thursday night at county roads 21 & 23 in the town of Walton. A vehicle operated by an unidentified 18 year old female from Lake City Florida, was traveling north on Route 21 when she began to enter Route 23 but then she swerved to stay on Route 21 and she struck an SUV driven by 26 year old Briar Jeffrey Lee Holt of Rock Hill, South Carolina; which was southbound on Route 21, The driver of the first vehicle was ticketed for failure to keep right, she complained of ankle and chest pain & was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital. A 17 year old female passenger in the 1st vehicle had multiple facial lacerations and contusions, & was also taken to Delaware Valley Hospital, and 18 year old male passenger from Sidney Center, who was also in the 1st vehicle, suffered a broken leg and chest pain he was airlifted to Wilson Memorial hospital in Johnson City. 2 people in the Holt SUV were uninjured.
State Police arrested 58 year old Harold Reid of Mount Upton for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. A trooper was dispatched to a report of a male behaving strangely in his vehicle at the Mirabito on East River Road in Bainbridge, Reid is accused of possessing heroin and suboxone, and he was released on appearance tickets for town of Bainbridge Court on August 16th.
State Police arrested 37 year old Jarred Cutting of Masonville for Driving While Intoxicated and felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, after a trooper was dispatched to the area of Route 991J in Otego. Cutting was located and arrested, he was arraigned in the town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond, he will appear in the town of Otego Court today.
State Police arrested 45 year old Gregory Croft of Sidney for DWI with a BAC of .17%, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Troopers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 23 in Oneonta, a traffic stop was initiated and Croft was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Oneonta Court today.
The Oneonta Common Council will hold their next regular meeting this evening. The Meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in the Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of City Hall, it is open to the public.

State Police responded to a fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock Sunday. A vehicle went off the highway & down an embankment; the responding trooper found the vehicle with the driver deceased inside. More information is expected to be released shortly.
Norwich Police and the Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of 37 year old Andres Figueroa & 46 year old Lourdes Medina of Norwich on charges of Criminal sales of a controlled substance & criminal nuisance. Police investigated narcotics sales starting in May & they executed a 'No-knock' search warrant at a North Broad Street apartment. Figueroa and Medina were sent to the Chenango County Jail, Figueroa on $50,000 bail and Medina on $20,000 bail, pending action in Norwich City Court on Wednesday.
33 year old Sean Martin of Binghamton was sentenced Monday in Chenango County Court to 90 days in jail & 5 years post-release Supervision, for driving drunk during a 1 vehicle crash that killed his brother. Martin pleaded guilty in April to vehicular manslaughter, and driving while intoxicated, in connection with the September 24th 2017 crash on State Highway 41 in the Town of Greene
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28 year old Tara Doring of Franklin, on 1 count of criminal obstruction of breathing, 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 1count of harassment & 1 count of trespassing, Doring is accused of being was involved in a physical altercation with another individual while four young children were present. Doring was arraigned and was released on her own recognizance, she is scheduled to reappear at the Town of Kortright court at a later date.

State Police arrested 47 year old Audra Hart-Brendel of Afton for felony of Criminal Contempt; the arrest followed a complaint made on June 5 claiming Hart-Brendel continuously made contact with a victim that had an Order of Protection against her. Hart-Brendel was arraigned in the town of Windsor Court and was released in her own recognizance; she will appear in court again at a later date.
The City of Oneonta is applying for grant assistance through the State DOT Aviation Capital Grant Program for the purposes of replacing the airport’s existing aircraft fuel farm with two new 12,000 gallon tanks in a new location remote from the terminal building. The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is seeking public support for the project; more information for those wanting to assist can call the chamber at 267-4010.

Today is Primary day in New York State, Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced her office's Election Day Hotline, will be available today to help voters at the polls during the federal primary election. The Attorney General’s hotline is 800-771-7755; their email address is civil.rights@ag.ny.gov, both are available until 9:00 PM. Locally, there are 7 Democrats running for the 19th Congressional District, to take on incumbent Republican John Faso in November.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Department Investigators arrested 37 year old Amber Potts of Margaretville, on a Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant issued by Delaware County Court. Potts was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling Hydrocodone on 3 occasions, from her Village of Margaretville residence. Potts was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility with no bail; more arrests and additional charges related to this investigation are anticipated.
State Police arrested 53 year old John Nitz of Streamwood, Illinois for DWI, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and several other traffic tickets. Troopers were dispatched to a 2-car motor vehicle accident in the town of Pittsfield, where a vehicle towing a camper struck a truck parked on Texas Hill Road and never stopped. Nitz was arrested and arraigned in the town of Morris Court; he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Harpersfield for a report of horses in the roadway. Deputies found several horses without proper feed and water, as well as a downed horse that had to be euthanized by its owner. It was further determined that the horses had not received any veterinary care for an extended period of time. Deputies arrested 46 year old Eric Palmatier, 24 year old Francis Thomas, 20 year old Amanda Thomas and 19 year old Erica Palmatier, all of Harpersfield, with failure to provide proper food and drink to animals and failure to provide proper sustenance to animals.
Walton Town Supervisor Charles Gregory has died of a heart Attack, according to the Delaware County Board of Supervisors Clerk’s Office. Gregory became Walton Supervisor in 2016; he previously served as a Walton Village Trustee and served in the Walton Fire Department.
43-year-old Belven Fajardo of Endwell has been convicted of Attempted Arson; after he attempted to set fire to a Johnson City building using "Molotov Cocktails". Fajardo was arrested after he allegedly intended to cause damage to the building, following an earlier domestic dispute. Fajardo is scheduled to be sentenced on September 13. He faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 25 years in state prison.

The Appellate Division, Third Department has rejected an appeal from Anthony Pacherille Jr. of Cooperstown, of the 11-year prison term in Otsego county court for a 2010 shooting in Cooperstown.  The ruling stated that there was no bias against Pacherille by Otsego county judge Brian Burns in his sentencing of Pacherille, for the racially motivated shooting of Wesley Lippitt.  Pacherille pleading guilty to 2nd degree attempted murder for that shooting.


The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday; they arrested 5 people on a variety of drug & grand larceny charges.  Arrested were Joseph Fuzi, Pamela Sarday, Matthew Ford, Matthew Bowman and Megan Walsh, police seized crack-cocaine, digital scales, hypodermic needles and a dagger.  Bowman and Walsh were released on an appearance ticket for Binghamton Court, Fuzi and Sarday were arraigned & were remanded to the Broome County jail, Ford was arraigned in City of Binghamton Court and released, all face court action at a later date.


State Troopers arrested 35-year-old Gregory Thomas of Mount Morris, for Felony Aggravated DWI. Troopers accuse Thomas of driving while intoxicated with a child less then 16 years of age in the vehicle, the arrest followed an investigation into an accident on State Route 23 in the Town of Davenport.  Thomas was issued tickets and is scheduled to reappear before the Town of Davenport Court on May 28th.


Hartwick College announced that they will host an Open House program on Saturday geared toward current high school juniors who are interested in becoming part of Hartwick's Class of 2018.  The Open House will provide opportunities to learn more about Hartwick's campus, academic (http://www.hartwick.edu/academics) and extracurricular offerings, to meet with Hartwick staff, tour the campus and learn about the 3 year degree program instituted a couple of years ago.  Those who wish to sign up can do so at hartwick.edu


The Chenango Arts Council will hold their annual 5K fundraising run, “The Allegro Run for the Arts” Saturday.  The race begins at the Council of the Arts, 27 West Main Street, Norwich at 9:00 AM, Race day registrations will be accepted from 8 until 8:45 a.m.  Entry fees race are $15 up until race day and $20 the day of the race. State Troopers arrested 37-year-old George Burts of Binghamton, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Impersonation, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating Without a License and Falsifying Business Records. The arrest followed a traffic stop in Kirkwood, Burts was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
