The State Department of Health issued guidance today for vaccinating children ages 5 to 11 against COVID 19. The FDA and CDC have approved Pfizer’s child-sized doses of the vaccine, which were found to be 90.7% effective against virus, There is a consent form that parents must fill out before their children can get vaccinated, at coronavirus.health.ny.gov. Sidney Police responded Sunday to a report of a physical altercation involving a weapon in the Fox Street & Circle Drive. Police arrested 35 year old Anthony Albro of Sidney for Menacing & Harrassment, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court where & was released to appear in court at a later date.


Delhi Fire was toned for a fire alarm activation in Russel Hall on SUNY Delhi Campus Thursday Morning, Delhi Fire received assistance from Walton, Oneonta, Bovina, Franklin FAST team, the cause if the fire is still under investigation, no injuries were reported.


State Police are investigating a shooting in the town of Conklin, Early Thursday morning. Police responded following the report of a person or persons firing several shots from a dark colored sedan on Barbara Avenue, the shots struck a vehicle and residence, there were no injuries reported. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at 775-1241.


The Delaware County Chamber today announced the launched the 2021 Toys for Tots Campaign. This year, participating members have placed toy collection boxes in their businesses, the campaign will run from Monday November 8th until December 3rd, Chamber staff will pick up the toys from member businesses on December 3rd & deliver them to Delaware Opportunities, which has partnered with the Chamber to provide distribution of the gifts to Delaware County families. The Greater Oneonta Historical Society is planning an online Auction November 12th, and they will also return with an in person Auction November 19th, as their 2 main Fundraisers this year. The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum announced that they will be receiving artifacts from the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves. Artifacts will include Spikes worn by Braves Game 6 starter Max Fried, a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Jorge Soler, a Bat used by Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in Game 6 & the Jersey worn in Games 1 and 2 by Braves manager Brian Snitker.

The winners for the Sidney Town board were Frank Selleck & Bill Heath, in the Town of Meredith, Town Council winners were John Janiszewski & David Briggs, the Town of Franklin Board seats go to Garret Sitts & Heather Ross, the town of Middletown Supervisor Will be Patrick Davis, the Town of Tompkins Clerk was Michelle Phoenix, in the Town Of Delhi, the supervisor will be Mark Tuttle, the Town Council winners were Margaret Baldwin & Matthew Kryston & the Walton Town Supervisor will be Joseph Cetta. On October 21st, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 68 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on State Highway 8 in Masonville. 52-year-old Jack Mason of Whitney Point, was stopped, his license was revoked due to failure to answer a prior summons from the Sidney Town Court. Mason was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Failure to Use a Turn Signal, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Stop Lamps. Mason was later released on traffic tickets to Masonville Town Court at a later date.

UHS hospitals announced that they are temporarily suspending visitation for all areas of Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, Binghamton General Hospital and all UHS Primary & Specialty Care locations in the greater Binghamton region. UHS officials announced that the temporary suspension is due to the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19, more information about the exceptions is available at nyuhs.org.


The Village of Sidney is beginning to gather the community’s ideas for reusing publicly owned land near the Susquehanna River. Sidney is 1 of 2 communities Statewide to receive support from The Nature Conservancy, Sidney Grants Manager Clarissa Walrath said that the village received a $60,000 grant to deal with flood mitigation issues:

The latest federal figures from the CDC show almost 2/3rds of New Yorkers are fully vaccinated against COVID 19. About 12.7 million of New York’s 19 million residents are fully vaccinated, Locally County Heath Departments have reported between 50 & 60% vaccination rates.

Nasir Azmat of Franklin accepted a plea deal Friday in the Town of Sidney court, he pleaded guilty to overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals. Azmat was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation; he cannot own, possess or register animals during the 3 year probation. Azmat will also be placed on the Delaware County Animal Abuse Registry. Azmat was charged in February 2020 after Delaware County Sheriff's Office found 20 dogs in deplorable conditions on Azmat's property, the dog were allegedly used for dog-fighting.


Delaware County Public Health reported 1 more COVID death, 39 new positive cases, 11 hospitalized & 311 Quarantined, for Thursday & Friday of last week. The County positivity rate remains at 8.46%. Delaware County has had 60 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The county has had 51% of residents fully vaccinated.


The State Health Department tested over 208,000 Saturday for COVID 19, with over 4200 testing positive, which was just about 2% of all tested. Patient Hospitalizations are down to 2,086, Patients in an ICU bed was down to 450, & the number on Ventilators was down to 247, new deaths was 36 on Saturday.

The 2021 National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place tomorrow at 1:30 PM on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. Derek Jeter, Larry Walker, Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons will be inducted, admission to the ceremony on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center is free…MLB Network will carry the Induction Ceremony live; it will also be simulcast at MLB.com. 34 Hall of Famers are returning to Cooperstown for the Induction Ceremony.


Otsego County Department of Health reported 380 total COVID 19 cases reported in the month of August, with 52% were unvaccinated which includes those who had no or 1 vaccines in the 2 shot series, while 48% were fully vaccinated, 100% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated. 9% of the cases in August were in college students/employees; 10% of the cases were 0-11 years old, 27% were 12 to 24 years old, 46% of the cases were in the 25-55 age group & 17% were 56 & older.


State Senator Fred Akshar will join officials from Broome County and the Broome County Health Department to recognize Rebecca Kaufman as the 52nd Senate District's 2021 Woman of Distinction on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at the Broome County Health Department in Binghamton. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a neighbor dispute on July 31st, at 60 River Street in the Town of Stamford. 58-year-old Kenneth Utter and 69-year-old Janet Starkweather, both of Stamford, are accused of subjecting another person to unwanted physical contact, the victim’s harassment complaints were forwarded to the Town of Stamford Court, which was requested to issue a criminal summons for Starkweather and Utter. Deputies located and arrested Utter and Starkweather last week, they were charged with 1 count each of harassment, they were ordered to appear in the Town of Stamford Court on a later date.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed four pieces of legislation, to establish a demonstration program to implement speed violation monitoring systems in work zones to keep workers safe and make construction contractors liable for the wages owed to their subcontractors. They also require the payment of prevailing wage to building service employees at high-end co-ops and condos and extend Shared Work Benefits.


The State Department of Transportation announced that State Route 28 near Frank Slawson and Epps roads in the town of Franklin will close starting today for a culvert replacement over Knapp Brook. DOT Officials stated that motorists on State Route 28 will be detoured to take state Route 23 to Davenport Center and then take county Highway 10 to Meridale to connect back to state Route 28, the project is expected to be completed on September 22nd. Also, starting today, Old Route 17 in the Town of Windsor will undergo culvert construction; a road closure is near the intersection of 17 and Ostrander Road. Old Route 17 will likely be closed for 2 months & is scheduled to reopen around November 9th.


Gilbertsville-Mount Upton will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Bassett Healthcare School-Based Health Center at 5:00 PM Today. Former State Senator Jim Seward is expected to attend the ceremony, which will begin GMU’s Open House for the 2021-2022 school year. The Open House also will feature a free chicken dinner and the grand opening of the GMU Raiders Apparel Store.


Firefighters from several companies responded to the report of a Barn Fire at 723 Hotchkiss Road in Greene Late Sunday Night. Firefighters from Greene, Chenango Forks, Port Crane, Coventry, and Brisben responded, the barn was fully engulfed & was a total loss, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.


The State Health Department conducted over 100.000 COVID Tests Sunday, with 3660 positives, for a 3.65% positivity rate Hospitalizations were up to 2334, Patients in an ICU bed went up to 519, Patients on ventilators went up to 263, there were 26 deaths from COVID Sunday.

State Police arrested 44 year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit for 1st degree attempted murder, following the shooting of Trooper Ryan Thorpe last night in Deposit. Troopers responded to a domestic dispute after 9:00 Last night on Sunrise Terrace, Trooper Thorpe was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he recovering form emergency Surgery, Mawhiney was taken into custody & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail, the investigation is continuing.


NYSEG announced that their crews have successfully restore power to over 9000 Delaware County Customers who lost power this morning.   About 1/3rd of Delaware County customers were without power in the middle & eastern townships, several school districts had to delay scheduled activities this morning due to the outage.  NYSEG Officials told WCDO News that the issue was a failed insulator at the Delhi Substation, power was out from about 5:30 this morning until about 12:00 Noon.


Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 26 year old David Johnson of Norwich following the investigation of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Pittsfield on June 16TH.  Johnson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, DWI, Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, among several other charges, Johnson is accused of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of methamphetamine, he was taken to Bassett Medical Center for injuries sustained during the accident, he was processed & issued an appearance ticket for Pittsfield Court at a later date.


Chenango County Public Health reported that they now have no hospitalizations from the COVID 19 virus.  They are down to 10 active cases, 28 Quarantines, with 3325 recoveries, 3507 total cases & 77 deaths since the pandemic begin last year.


The DICK'S Sporting Goods Open will be held next week, June 28th through July 4th this year, organizer Dave Pessagno told WCDO News that they had to keep the numbers down when scheduling this event earlier this year:

Pessagno said that they are hoping to get back to normal attendance numbers of about 25,000 peak during the 2022 Dick's Sporting Goods Open festivities in Endicott.

Governor Cuomo announced that New York will end the state disaster emergency declared on March 7, 2020 to fight COVID-19 today. Federal CDC guidance will remain in effect, which includes masks for unvaccinated individuals, as well as all riders on public transit and in certain settings, such as health care, nursing homes, correctional facilities, and homeless shelters. State and local government health departments will still be able to ensure mask rules and other health precautions are adhered to in those settings.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Susan Raczkowski of Milford following a wood shed fire June 17th that was deemed suspicious by the Milford Fire Department.   Raczkowski was charged with 4th-degree arson and criminal mischief; she was issued an appearance ticket and will return to court at a later date.
