State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli & the State Department of Financial Services announced the approval of the Butternut Valley Banking Development District as a participant in the Banking Development District program and deposited $35 million in New York State funds to Sidney Federal Credit Union’s new Morris Branch. The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 Walton residents following a narcotics investigation in Kirkwood. Arrested were 30 year old Joseph Hahm, on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 22 year old Jubilee Klimas for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both face court action on the charges shortly.


The Delaware Valley Humane Society's Shelter Saviors fundraising efforts brought in a lot of money for the shelter recently, Shelter Director Erin Insinga told WCDO news how much was raised:

4 Binghamton men who were arrested February 4th by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office on 11 felony weapons charges have been remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility following an indictment filed by the Broome County District Attorney’s Office in Broome County Court. Samear Wallace, Johnathan Ayala, Isaiah Johnson, and Jahliek Walker-Coates, were charged with a total of 11 felony weapons charges following an investigation into gunshots fired in the Town of Dickinson, they were found to be in possession of 4 loaded ghost guns, one stolen and loaded handgun and six high-capacity ammunition feeding devices, including a 50-round drum magazine.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a trespassing complaint earlier this month, they interviewed the victim who accused 40-year-old Kristen Rice of Hancock had entered and remained in the dwelling of another person despite being asked, and that Rice subjected another person to unwanted physical contact. Deputies arrested Rice for Criminal Trespass and Harassment, Deputies transported Rice to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for processing, she was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility & was held for arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop in Delhi February 10th, the driver provided Deputies with a false name and date of birth, K9 Dexter discovered Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, plus scales and packaging materials. 43-year-old Adam Bright of Delhi was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, plus Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator among other traffic violations, Deputies transported Bright was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held for Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Damon Sobers of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing and Harassment, following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Oneonta. Deputies were told that the victim had struck in the head with the butt of the gun and suffered a large laceration to the face and that Sobers may be in possession of a firearm. Sobers was later taken into custody and was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office & was being held pending arraignment.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed the Trump administration’s cuts to federal agencies that protect seniors from frauds and scams:

Senator Gillibrand said that last year, seniors lost almost $5 billion to scammers; these financial losses can be devastating for older adults with limited income. Gillibrand has called on the Government Accountability Office to examine how cuts affect federal efforts to protect seniors from scams. State tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion through the first quarter of State Fiscal Year, about $580.5 million higher than the most recent Division of the Budget estimates. State tax collections were also $3.3 billion higher than last year's 1st quarter, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Town of Walton in May, 36-year-old Gerald Walke had engaged in a verbal domestic dispute and displayed a knife, while in the presence of two juveniles, the Town of Walton Court issued an Arrest Warrant, last week, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office located Walke, he was turned over to Delaware County Deputies & was charged with 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and 2 counts of Menacing, Walke was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.


State Police arrested 34 year old Kyle Packer of Oneonta on an arrest warrant for Burglary, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration. On June 12, Packer was involved in a domestic dispute in Edmeston where he violated an order of protection, unlawfully entered a home and struck a victim & left prior to the Trooper’s arrival. Troopers located Packer on June 24 in the town of New Berlin, where he fled on tractor into a wooded area. A Trooper observed Packer Tuesday in the town of Columbia, he was taken into custody and was processed then transported to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducting a traffic stop Sunday, the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license, K9 Dexter & Deputies located methamphetamine and illegal fireworks. Deputies identified the operator as 42 year old Ryan Fletcher of Delhi, Deputies determined that Fletcher's privileges to operate a motor vehicle were suspended. Fletcher was charged with Unlawful Possession of Fireworks, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Criminal Impersonation & Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and various traffic violations, Fletcher was released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi court at a later date.


The State Department of Transportation announced the exit 8 off-ramp from Interstate 88 West to State Route 206 in Bainbridge will be closed today for pavement repairs, from 8 am. to 2 pm. Drivers should follow the posted detour route using Exit 9, State Route 8 Northbound to State Route 7 Westbound to State Route 206.

The Norwich Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian death that occurred on Cortland Street in the City of Norwich on January 1st, at approximately 8:00 AM. The victim was 68 year old James Wright, who was walking on the sidewalk of Cortland Street when he was struck, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The driver of the vehicle in question is a 19-year-old-male who did not sustain any injuries, the investigation is ongoing, and the Norwich Police Department was assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team, as well as the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office.


The New York State Cannabis Industry made more than $1 Billion in Retail Sales in 2024, the Revenue Boost by Over 50%, so far there are 275 Licensed Dispensaries and 500 Supply-Side Licenses that Contributed to the retail sales increase.


Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 38 year old Christie Coon of Afton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, in the Town of North Norwich recently. Coon was found to have a suspended New York State drivers license and was in possession of Methamphetamine, she was transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing and was released on an appearance tickets for North Norwich Court at a later date.


Otsego County is looking to hire full & part time employees for the positions of Advanced Life Support Technician and Basic Life Support Technician. The positions include multiple benefits, more information is available at otsegocountyny.gov.


3 people were injured when a bar drink exploded, at the Courtside Bar & Grill in Binghamton. 1 person was hospitalized, 2 others were treated at the scene, Binghamton Police arrested one person for unlawful sale of alcohol to a minor, and the investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a speeding vehicle with switched plates recently, 29 year old Adam Robinson and the passenger, 35 yr old Honesty Muller, both of Hamden. were arrested. K9 Dexter located a quantity of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle. Robinson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Aggravated unlicensed Operation and Reckless Driving among many other similar charges. Muller was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both Muller and Robinson were released on appearance tickets and scheduled to appear at the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.


Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving a female with facial injuries in the Town of Chenango. 49 year old Benjamin Engbrecht of Chenango was charged with 2nd and 3rd Degree Assault, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest & Obstruction of Governmental Administration, he was taken to Central Arraignment & he was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.


New Healthcare Reforms went into law on January 1st, Now expectant mothers can now enroll in health insurance penalty-free where the Coverage is retroactive to the month of pregnancy certification, Also, a new law makes health insurance cover at least 2 EpiPens per year, capping out-of-pocket costs at $100. another law states that insurance providers must eliminate all out-of-pocket costs for insulin, removing financial barriers for diabetes management.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Nehemiah Clark of Bloomville and 25 year old Jordan Clark of Andes man on drug charges. Deputies assisted State Parole Officers with conducting a home visit at the Delaware County homeless shelter in Bloomville, where it was determined that the parolee was not at the residence and was violating his terms with parole, a vehicle was observed passing by with the parolee inside and a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies & K9 Dexter determined that both occupants were in possession of fentanyl, they were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance & were released on appearance tickets to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

State Department of Labor reported that the state private sector job total was back up to 8.33 Million in February 2024, which is back up to pre-pandemic levels. The State's unemployment rate decreased .1% to 4.4% in February, the statewide labor force participation rate held steady at 61.4% in February 2024.


The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment following an investigation in to reported on-going child abuse in the Town of Pittsfield. Investigation revealed that Melius allegedly subjected minors to physical abuse & for intentionally kill a kitten with a baseball bat. Melius was located Wednesday and was taken in to custody, and was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action, an order of Protection was requested to be issued on behalf of the victims.


State Police today announced that it issued 5,576 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative. State Troopers arrested 132 people for DWI and investigated 199 crashes, which resulted in 25 people being injured and no fatalities. Troopers ticketed 1788 for speeding, 406 tickets were issued in the Troop C area.


New York Farm Bureau members donated eight million pounds of food to regional food banks across the state last year through the Harvest for All program. More information on local food donation projects, is available through local food banks.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested 41 year old Dennis Fickeria and 34 year old Deirdre Vincent, Vincent is accused of selling narcotics at her place of employment, they are both accused of selling narcotics at their residence. On Janury 3rd, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle operated by Fickeria for speeding, Canine Dexter located 12 bags of Fentanyl, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1542 Jones Hollow Road, 2 people were removed, officers then located 19 long guns, 4 assault rifles, 8 illegal handguns, 2 were GHOST GUNS, plus they seized Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, plus drug paraphernalia, scales, packaging materials & $3,900 dollars of suspected drug proceeds. Vincent & Fickeria were each charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, crimanlly using drug paraphenalia, Vincent was arraigned and was released on her own recognizance. Fickeria was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility, without bail.

Broome County’s Special Investigation Unit Task Force raided 435 Chenango Street, in Binghamton, Police arrested 44-year-old Luis Ruiz and 42-year-old Rasheda Crowder. Police seized 2 loaded handguns, an AK47 style handgun, thousands of rounds of ammunition, three high-capacity magazines, as well as heroin & fentanyl. Ruiz and Crowder were charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon & face court action shortly.


Governor Hochul has directed State Agencies to prepare for severe weather conditions across the state over the next 48 hours. Wind Advisories are in effect through much of the state, blizzard conditions are expected through the North Country & Western New York.


Property tax levy growth for school districts and 10 of the state’s cities will be capped at 2%, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law also includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli’s office calculated the inflation factor at 4.12% for those with a June 30, 2025 fiscal year end. The 2% allowable levy growth affects the tax cap calculations for 676 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.


The Broome County Martin Luther King Junior Commission will be holding their annual March on Monday evening, starting at the MLK Promenade behind Boscov’s in downtown Binghamton. The commission announced that they have resumed their scholarship program, they will give out 2 scholarships for $1,000 each for high school graduates this year..

Chenango County Sheriff's Department responded to 30 Classic Street in Sherburne to investigate complaints of methamphetamine being manufactured at the residence. Officers arrested Andrew Palmer they located several “one pots” & State Police teams responded to conduct a search and cleanup of the area. Methamphetamine & ingredients were recovered, Palmer was charged with Unlawful Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Unlawful Disposal of Methamphetamine Laboratory Equipment, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday t a 1 car MVA on Pines Brook Road, in the Town of Walton. Deputies arrested 22 year old Fawn Palladino of Walton, for Aggravated DWI; driving with a BAC of .18% or more, along with several other Vehicle and Traffic violations. Palladino failed to maintain control of her vehicle while turning onto Pines Brook Road; Deputies also arrested 27-year-old Amanda Dente of Walton, for Obstructing Governmental Administration, after she became physically violent with individuals on scene. Both were processed and released with appearance tickets made returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date.
Standard & Poor Global ratings has raised the City of Oneonta's Long Term rating to AA-, on the city's general obligation debt. The ratings review was issued in anticipation of the city's issuance of 4.2 Million Dollars in general obligation bonds next month. The improved rating will mean lower long-term interest rates & lower costs to taxpayers over the life of the bonds.

Hamm said that The Council is working with the Delaware County Stop DWI program to bring presentation to area schools, and they will be reviving the "Mock DWI" Crash demonstrations shortly.
The next meeting of the City of Oneonta's Planning Commission will be tonight at City Hall. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM in the Common Council Chambers on the 2nd floor.
A free rabies vaccination clinic will be held today at the Guilford at the Town Garage. The clinic will run form 5:30 to 6:30 PM at 223 Marble Road.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Bell Hill Road in the Town of Delhi Monday, for a personal injury Motor vehicle accident. 18 year old Camron Cotto of Ithaca, lost control of his vehicle on a curve causing the vehicle to leave the road and strike a number of trees. Cotto was treated and released from O’Connor Hospital. 24-year-old Jesse-Lee Demarco of Watertown sustained serious head trauma and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, 20-year-old Alex Brimmer of Dexter sustained serious chest and head trauma and was airlifted to Bassett Hospital. 2 other passengers were not injured. The investigation is continuing, charges may be filed.
A State of Pennsylvania resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant stemming from two warrants from Pennsylvania. Michael Perry had been released from the Chenango County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges then turn over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department on the active warrant. Perry was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded back to the Jail, Perry is to reappear in the Chenango County Court at a later date to answer to his charges.
Former First Lady of Canada Margaret Trudeau will give the keynote speech at this year’s Women’s Fund Annual Breakfast on Thursday, June 22 at the Holiday Inn on Hawley Street in Binghamton. Trudeau’s speech will focus on her life as First Lady, Mother of current Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the loss of a son and her former husband, & living with bipolar disorder.
