Sidney Police Officer Morgan Smith today received a national award from Delaware County Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith for her diligence in removing drunk & drugged drivers from local roads, Sidney Police Chief Eric Oliver commented about officer Smith:

Chief Oliver said that Officer Smith achieved this award while still on her probationary period with the Sidney Police Department.


Broome County Sheriff's Office responded Wednesday, afternoon to a work zone accident on the I-88 westbound bridge north of I-81. The investigation found that after a heavy downpour, an employee exiting a port-a-John was struck by a passing water truck traveling within the construction area in reverse, which ran over the worker’s legs and lower torso. The victim remained conscious was transported to Wilson Hospital. The investigation revealed a questionable placement of the portable facility, no charges have been filed, the accident report was sent to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.


Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro's 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. Commerce Chenango announced that their next Business After Hours event will be held next Wednesday at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus. The event will begin at 4:30 PM at the Follett Hall Atrium.


The City of Norwich announced that their boil water advisory issued Thursday in the southern part of the city, has been lifted. The advisory was order following a water main Break & South Broad Street near Hale Street.

Broome County District Attorney' Office announced that 49 year old Kristina Doty pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault & will spend 5 years in jail. Doty admitted to causing physical injury to another person on March 12th, she injured a 63-year-old woman when she struck her in the head multiple times with a flashlight. Doty has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault in 2015. She will be sentenced on November 16.

Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is continuing to collect toys for the Annual Toys For Tots Campaign, they ask that people bring new, unwrapped gifts to a Toys for Tots collection box located throughout Delaware County. State Police responded Wednesday to an SUV Rollover accident on Frost Hill Road in the town of Plainfield, where the vehicle driven by 28 year old Amber Brown of Rome went off the roadway, struck an embankment and partially overturned. 3 year old Amina Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene, 2 adults & 4 children in the Estrada family were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Utica for further medical care. The accident is still under investigation.


This Sunday would have been the 7th birthday of Trinity O'Connor of Sidney, the little girl who died from cancer earlier this year. The Trinity O'Connor Foundation will celebrate her birthday Sunday at 4:00 PM at Keith Clark Park, spokesperson Kim Ayres explains:

Brian Doliver was elected Tuesday as the next Mayor of the City of Norwich, he told WCDO News that there a lot of big issues to deal with right from the start:

The Greater Oneonta Historical Society is planning an online Auction November 12th, and they will also return with an in person Auction November 19th, as their 2 main Fundraisers this year. Spokesman Bob Brzozowski told WCDO News that they hope to bounce back this year after just doing an online auction last year, due to the pandemic & shutdown:

The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum announced that they will be receiving artifacts from the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves. Artifacts will include Spikes worn by Braves Game 6 starter Max Fried, a Batting helmet worn by World Series MVP Jorge Soler, a Bat used by Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in Game 6 & the Jersey worn in Games 1 and 2 by Braves manager Brian Snitker.


The Friends of Afton announced the return of Afton’s Annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for Saturday December 4th at 5:00 pm. Floats and vehicles will line up at Corporate Park off Route 7, Walking groups, bicycles, and golf carts will gather at the Afton Edge Apartments.

Yesterday was Election Day, The Delaware County Board of Elections did not announce a winner for the Sidney Town Supervisor’s race, between write-in candidates Eric Wilson & Kevin Greene, Officials told WCDO News it will take days or maybe even weeks to count & certify all of the write in votes across all 19 towns from this year's elections, there were 552 write in Votes Tuesday in Sidney Town Supervisors race. The winners for the Sidney Town board were Frank Selleck & Bill Heath, in the Town of Meredith, Town Council winners were John Janiszewski & David Briggs, the Town of Franklin Board seats go to Garret Sitts & Heather Ross, the town of Middletown Supervisor Will be Patrick Davis, the Town of Tompkins Clerk was Michelle Phoenix, in the Town Of Delhi, the supervisor will be Mark Tuttle, the Town Council winners were Margaret Baldwin & Matthew Kryston & the Walton Town Supervisor will be Joseph Cetta. In Chenango County, Sheriff Ernest Cutting was re-elected, The County Clerk winner is Brian Wessels, & the winners for the Norwich City Council are Fred Gee, William Loomis, Tom Revoir & Barry Christopherson. The Town of Oneonta will hold a public budget hearing tonight at 7:00 PM at the town hall in West Oneonta, the town board will also discuss a law to over-ride the State Tax cap.


The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting this morning at 8:00 am, it will be held at Trackside Dining on Main Street.


On October 21st, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 68 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone on State Highway 8 in Masonville. 52-year-old Jack Mason of Whitney Point, was stopped, his license was revoked due to failure to answer a prior summons from the Sidney Town Court. Mason was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding, Failure to Use a Turn Signal, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Stop Lamps. Mason was later released on traffic tickets to Masonville Town Court at a later date.

Department, for his action last November that saved the life of an infant that

Officer Parry will also
be receiving the American Red Cross Real Heroes award later this year for his
action in November.

State Police arrested 19 year old
Lucian Decker of New Berlin for 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a
Child.   Troopers were dispatched to a
domestic dispute in the town of Pittsfield; Decker is accused of slapping &
kicking an infant & another victim that didn’t want to press charges.    Decker was arraigned; an order of
protection was issued for the victim.


Following the murder of Upstate
resident, 17-year-old Bianca Devins in Utica, and the dissemination of graphic
images, Congressman Anthony Brindisi convened a meeting of members of Congress
and Social Media representatives from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google,
Reddit, and Tumblr, regarding the companies content moderation policies.  22 Year old Brandon Clark posted pictures on
social media platforms of Devin's deceased body after he killed her in Utica
last July.


Governor Cuomo stood with
environmental leaders today to discuss the need to pass the $3 Billion Restore
Mother Nature Bond Act in the State Budget; he first mentioned the proposal in
the State of the State address in January:

If approved by the voters in
November, the Bond Act would fund environmental restoration projects across the
state to ensure New York is able to withstand the threat of more intense and
frequent storms fueled by climate change.


State Police arrested 2 juveniles,
ages 14 and 17 for Burglary and Grand Larceny.
Troopers were dispatched on February 5th to the 14-year-old’s residence
after the teen’s family reported that the juvenile had left home some time
overnight, possibly with a 17-year-old who was also reported missing.  Troopers discovered that a vehicle was
missing from the town of Morris & that the 14 and 17-year-old teens
allegedly stole it & drove to Lafayette to pick up another minor.  The teens were found in Cortland and taken
into custody.   The 17-year-old was
arraigned and released to Otsego County DSS.
The 14-year-old was issued a family court appearance ticket.


The Delaware County Sheriff's
Department has called a press conference for tomorrow morning in Sidney,
regarding the recent seizure of 20 dogs from a town of Franklin Property, the
dogs were used for illegal dog fighting, and more details will be released
Friday.


State Police announced that 23 year
old Christian Wilson of Endicott was arrested twice, on February 4th in
Cortland County & February 11th in Tioga County.   State Police arrested Wilson on the 4th for
Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Mischief after an
investigation of a man wearing only black plastic garbage bags entered a home
& left the area, he also allegedly wrecked a car nearby that was reported
stolen from Broome County.  On February
11th State Police arrested Wilson for Criminal Trespass for being at a property
in the town of Nichols where he did not belong. Wilson was released on an
appearance tickets both times.


Local State Senator Jen Metzger
announced yesterday that fellow Senate Majority Democrats are working to give
judges the ability to set bail on a number of charges, following multiple
problems around the state, after the passage of a controversial package of Bail
reforms.  There have been several
instances of someone being released on an appearance ticket for a serious
crime, and immediately committing another crime.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies
arrested 40 year old Mohamed Mursal of Minneapolis, Minnesota with one count of
Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well as traffic
violations for operating a motor vehicle with inadequate head lights and
operating a motor vehicle in excess of the allowed gross vehicle weight. The
arrest occurred as a result of an investigation into disabled Commercial
Vehicle on Rathbun Hill Road in the Town of Davenport. Mursal was arraigned at
the Town of Kortright court and was released on his own recognizance.  Mursal is scheduled to appear before the Town
of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies
arrested 42 year old Daniel Berry of Woodbourne for Aggravated Unlicensed
Operation of a Motor Vehicle, as well Operating a motor vehicle without a
required Ignition Interlock Device, Unlicensed Operator, and Inadequate
headlights following a traffic stop on State Highway 28 in the Town of
Middletown. Berry was later released on ticket, and is scheduled to appear
before the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

The Annual Bainbridge Glow Run will be held Saturday at
General Clinton Park in Bainbridge.  The
event began in 2015 after Heather Bucalos of Sidney finished her treatment for
Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and decided to hold fundraisers for area cancer
patients.  This year, Heather has
suffered a relapse & her friends are teaming up to raise funds for her with
the Glow Run Fundraiser, one of those friends is Christine Oliver, who talked to

A fundraiser is being held for Dylan Dewey & Tyler
Holcomb of Franklin, who were injured in an accident recently, Franklin Central

Johnson said that both teens have been at Albany Medical
Center since the crash on September 5th in the town of Franklin.

The Unadilla Fire Department
will hold a Cornhole tournament & vendor fair Tomorrow at the Unadilla Fire

Chenango County Sheriff's Department responded to the Town
of Otselic for a reported stabbing Wednesday, where a male victim was stabbed
multiple times by a coworker at a cell phone tower.   The victim was airlifted to SUNY Upstate
Hospital; he was listed in serious, but stable condition.  Deputies arrested 49 year old Howard Williams
from the Bronx; for 2nd degree Assault he was taken into custody in the Town of
McGraw by State Police and Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.  Williams was arraigned in the Town of Smyrna
Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $10,000 cash
bail.


The 5th Annual Sidney Health Fair will be held at Keith

The tournament will be held at the Afton Golf Club with a shotgun start

This Saturday is the 17th Annual Legacy Run, sponsored by
the American Legion Riders' Post 259.
Riders from all over will participate, with stops in Delhi,
Margaretville, Downsville and Walton - raising money for  Legion Legacy Fund, which raises money for higher
education for the children of post 9/11 Veterans who've lost their lives or who
have been significantly disabled.
