Today is Election day, with interesting races In the 52nd State Senate race, Delaware County’s First Ever family Court Judge race, Chenango County District Attorney, and town supervisor races in Franklin, oxford, Harpersfield & Guilford & Town Council races in Sidney, & Franklin locally. Polls will be open until 9:00 tonight.
The Medical Marijuana Expedited Access bill that would expedite patients’ access to medical marijuana has been sent to Governor Cuomo’s desk, he has until November 11th to sign or veto the bill. The state Legislature passed the bill in June, it would give preferential access to medical marijuana to Terminally ill patients, and would be strictly regulated.
State Police arrested 23-year-old Cody Mabe of Pharsalia for fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, resting arrest and several other traffic violations. This arrest occurred after a short pursuit that started when a trooper observed Mabe driving without a front license plate and attempted to make a traffic stop on State Route 23 in the Town of Pharsalia. After refusing to comply, Mabe drove away. The pursuit ended when he drove near his home and fled into the woods. He was arrested shortly after. Mabe was arraigned in the Town of Pharsalia court and was released without bail required. His next court date in the Town of Pharsalia is on November 5, 2015
Governor Cuomo & U.S. Senator Charles Schumer are urging the leadership at Kraft-Heinz to spare 3 New York plants that may be on the chopping block, following the merger of the 2 industry giants. One of the plants operates in Walton and employs about 150 people.
The General Clinton Canoe Regatta Committees will meet this evening in Bainbridge. The Meeting will be held at the Highway 7 Bar and Grill, the 6:30 Race committee meeting, it will be followed at 7:30 with the Regular meeting.
The Unatego Cue & Curtain Theater group will have performances of Cinderella this coming weekend. Director Sandy Bonczkowski comments:

Bonczkowski said that about 35 students are participating in the performance, they started auditioning & preparing back in June.
The Oneonta Common Council will hold their next regular meeting tonight at City Hall. The meeting will get underway at 7:00 PM & is open to the public.

Oneonta Police Department arrested 23-year-old Jeremiah Vonberg of Oneonta for 1st degree Rape & Criminal Possession of a weapon. Vonberg was arrested following an investigation of an incident on October 17th. Vonberg was held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta court,
State Police arrested 41-year-old Robert McLintock of Edmeston for criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marihuana. This arrest occurred after a traffic stop for driving with a brake lamp not working on State Route 20 in the Town of Richfield. During the stop it was determined that he unlawfully possessed an unregistered handgun and marihuana. McLintock was arraigned and was released without bail required pending court action on November 4th.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman stated that his office is operating a statewide Election Day Hotline today. Voters encountering barriers to access at their polling sites can report those issues to the Attorney General’s Office by calling the hotline at 800-771-7755, from 6:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. today.
Sidney Town Clerk Lisa French announced that she is running for Sidney town clerk unopposed. French pointed out that recent published reports suggested that she was running for Sidney Town Supervisor, which is not up for election this year.

Governor Cuomo announced that flags on state government buildings will be flown at half-staff today, in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives in the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
State Police arrested 62-year-old Jeffrey Kennedy of Eaton, for aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .21% and other traffic violations. The arrest occurred after Kennedy was observed failing to keep right on State Route 12 in the Town of North Norwich. Kennedy was issued tickets returnable to the Town of North Norwich Court on September 23rd
Otsego County's annual Hazardous Waste Collection Event will be held today & tomorrow. The 1st event will be at the Unadilla Town Highway Building today & Waste from Otsego County small businesses is accepted and the 2nd event will be at the Meadows Office Building in Cooperstown on Saturday. A SUNY Delhi freshman from Wappingers Falls was found dead in a wooded area near the campus Tuesday. The unidentified student was found unresponsive by friends, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's office. No foul Play is suspected; a memorial service for the student is planned on September 25th in Hopewell Junction.
State Police are investigating a burglary to a home on Grove Street in Windsor, which occurred sometime during the overnight between August 2nd & 3rd. Police said that burglars took a small black Sentry Model safe, which contained a large amount of US currency. Thursday's Primary Day elections have been tabulated, In Delaware County; The Democratic Party Town of Middletown Supervisor Primary was won by Marjorie Miller. The Republican Party Primary had Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jim Eisel winning for the Harpersfield Town Supervisors position. In the Primary for Town of Walton Supervisor, Charles Gregory defeats Bruce Dolph. In Chenango County, District Attorney Joe McBride wins the Republican primary, in the city of Norwich; Christine Carnrike won The Republican Primary for Mayor over incumbent Joe Mauirano.
The Delaware County Industrial Development Agency recently completed a renovation project at the Sidney Industrial Park to ensure the continued growth of Gravity Ciders. The company outgrew their Walton facility; they were looking for a new production and warehousing facility to keep up with the demand of their Awestruck Premium Hard Ciders. A 2nd rally against a proposed pipeline and compressor in Franklin is planned for Saturday, at 10:00 AM in front of 483 Van Tassel Road in Franklin. The rally is close to the location of the proposed compressor station.

The Delaware county department of corrections will hold the 5th Annual Andrew Brown Memorial Golf Tournament tomorrow, at the Hardwood Hills Golf Course in Masonville. U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced today $560,694 in federal funding for the City of Norwich Fire Department. The federal funding will enable the department to hire three new, full-time firefighters, allowing the City of Norwich to increase the number of firefighters on duty from a four-person shift to a five-person shift.
Oneonta Police Department responded to Luther Street for a reported violation of an order of protection. 32-year-old Keion Pierre of Oneonta is accused of violating an order of protection, Pierre fled the scene on foot with the officer giving chase, but he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Pierre was found to be in possession of 24 Baggies of heroin, 3.9 grams of crack cocaine, plus marihuana and drug paraphernalia. Pierre was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Contempt, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, he was held pending arraignment at the City of Oneonta Court.
Governor Cuomo's favorability rating dropped, according to the latest Siena College survey released today. 49% have a favorable view of Cuomo, down from 53% in May and 60% in January. 44% had an unfavorable view of Cuomo, 39% said Cuomo is doing an "excellent" or "good" job, 40% said "fair" and 20% said "poor.

the Otsego County solid waste department announced the dates & locations for this year's household Hazardous Waste collection days. the 1st event will be on September 11that the Unadilla town highway building, the second will be at the Meadows Complex in Cooperstown on September 12th. U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer reported that he will fight legislation that would allow for longer trailer trucks on the nation's highways. Schumer opposes a provision in a Senate transportation bill would authorize twin 33-foot trailers. Current rules allow for trucks to pull two trailers that are each 28 feet long. Schumer said that trucks would stretch out to be the size of an eight-story building & would be a safety risk for other motorists and a place too much weight on bridges and roads.

The Oneonta Planning commission will hold their next meeting tonight, on the agenda is a proposal for demolishing 31 Clinton Street, the meeting will begin at 7:00 PM in the Oneonta City Hall Common Council Chambers.

The State Police, Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the DEC, Forest Rangers, U.S. Marshals, and the FBI have teamed up to conduct grid searches in Clinton County & into the North Country, to locate fugitives David Sweat and Richard Matt. Police concentrated their efforts this afternoon in Willsboro New York in Essex County; law enforcement in the Southern tier is also keeping up the search, as Sweat has ties to Broome County. Anyone with information should call 911, local law enforcement agencies, or State Police at 1-800 GIVETIP.
State Senator Jim Seward announced senate approval of a bill he sponsored that would amend several provisions of the New York-SAFE Act.

The bill was sent to the assembly where it will be sponsored by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi of Utica, but the bill is not likely to be signed by Governor Cuomo.

The Adult Amber alert activated yesterday was cancelled, as the elderly Otsego county man was located safely in southeast Pennsylvania. 79-year-old George Holbert of Edmeston was located in Carbon County Pennsylvania Monday night; he was brought to a local hospital for evaluation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office began a search Monday, following a report from family that Holbert was missing from his residence on Dutch Valley Road in the Town of Edmeston since Sunday. Holbert drove to Pennsylvania, the sheriff’s office was contacted as Holbert suffers from the early onset of dementia, & takes numerous medications, which he left home.
Delaware County Deputies arrested and charged 42-year-old Kirell Lakhman of Holbrook, New York Monday, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation for traveling on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden while his license was suspended, he was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court and released on his own recognize to re-appear on July 13th. Lakhman was arrested Again on Monday by Deputies on an Arrest Warrant issued by the Village of Walton Court, he was turned over to the Village of Walton Police Department for processing and arraignment.

State Police responded to a rollover accident that closed down a portion of I-88 Monday. Police reported that no one was injured when a pickup truck and the recreational vehicle it was towing rolled over in Oneonta, just past exit 15. Trooper’s diverted traffic off the interstate, it took about an hour for crews to clear the scene. The investigation is continuing.
Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will spend the day in Broome County today. Hochul will Join Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and Local Officials to Tour Small Businesses in Downtown Binghamton & the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena at 11:00 this morning, at 12:00 PM she convenes a Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council Meeting at Binghamton University Innovative Technologies Complex. Hundreds of landowners rallied at the Binghamton Holiday Inn against the statewide ban on hydraulic fracturing, held by the Joint Landowner's Coalition of New York. The attorneys for the Joint Landowners coalition will pursue legal action against the ban when the Supplemental Generic Environmental Impact Statement is complete by the DEC
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM this morning for former Governor Mario Cuomo at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City. Dignitaries from state government up to former President Bill Clinton will be in attendance.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 35 year old Lee McDonald of Walton for 1 count of Scheming to Defraud & 2 counts of Issuing a Bad Check. McDonald is accused of having engaged in a systematic, on-going course of conduct to intentionally defraud a number of area businesses with bad checks drawn on accounts of his businesses, Dam Broke Farm, LLC, and Blue Moon Construction & Electric, for more than $3,000. McDonald was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $6500 cash bail.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce annual “STATE OF THE STATE BREAKFAST” will be held today in Oneonta. The event runs from 7:30AM to 10:00AM at the HOLIDAY INN OF ONEONTA, area lawmakers have been invited to attend.
