The 64th General Clinton Canoe Regatta was held over the Memorial Day Weekend, nearly 800 paddlers from 256 US states & 2 Canadian Provinces competed. In Sunday's 1 person 70 mile Pro race, Mike Schlimmer, of Cortland, took top honors, after arriving at 8:00 PM, the night before the race:

The weekend weather affected the rides & hot air balloons on Saturday, but the entertainment, music, and fireworks went off as planned.
45 year old Dustin Yannuzzi of Binghamton, was found guilty by a Broome County Jury last week for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Felony of Tampering with Physical Evidence and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On October 2, 2024, Yannuzzi drove at a high rate of speed, engaging in conduct to unlawfully flee members of the State Police. Yannuzzi threw packages containing methamphetamine, from the vehicle, which was recovered by the Police. Yannuzzi was subsequently taken into custody at a local hotel, he faces sentencing on August 21st in Broome County Court, As a second felony drug offender, Yannuzzi faces a minimum of 6 years and a maximum of 14 years in State Prison, plus 5 years of Post Release Supervision.
State Police responded to a one vehicle fatal crash on State Route 12 in the town of Hamilton. Prior to the crash, reports were received regarding an erratic driver, the vehicle was found off of the roadway into a guardrail. The driver was identified as 78 year old William Kilts of West Edmeston, he was pronounced dead at the scene, an autopsy is scheduled to determine whether Kilts was suffering from a medical issue that may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

THE WEEKEND'S COLD, RAINY WEATHER CAUSED THE RIDES TO BE SHUT DOWN ON SATURDAY, BUT THE LIVE MUSIC, TWO NIGHTS OF FIREWORKS, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES UNDER THE TENTS WENT ON AS PLANNED. NEARLY 5 THOUSAND PEOPLE HAVE COMPLETED THE GENERAL CLINTON CANOE REGATTA'S 70 MILE COURSE SINCE IT BEGAN IN 1963.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Isiah Eckler of Cooperstown, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation & Harassment, following an investigation into an incident in the Village of Cooperstown. Eckler was processed & was being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment
State Police have concluded their Memorial Day Weekend Patrols statewide, and Construction sites will be re-opened today throughout the State. Statistics regarding arrests will be released shortly, On Memorial Day weekend in 2025, Troopers arrested 245 people for driving while impaired, issued 12,062 total tickets, and investigated 774 crashes, which resulted in 3 fatal crashes.
US Senator Chuck Schumer introduced the "Family Grocery and Farmer Relief Act” at Brooks Barbecue in Oneonta Monday. Schumer said that 4 companies own 67% of the pork, 60% of the chicken, and 85% of the beef,” leading no competition in the food industry, and higher costs for everyone. If passed through Congress and signed by the president, meatpacking conglomerates could control only one type of meat and the Federal Trade Commission would enforce the legislation. Schumer said the bill could brought to the floor for a vote soon.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a scam where callers are contacting residents and reporting that they are from the New York State Electric & Gas, The scammers state that there is an overdue bill and that if the bill is not immediately paid, the resident's electricity will be shut off. The Sheriff;s Office reported that people should never give personal financial information to cold callers, they should hang up, and contact local law enforcement if they feel that they were scammed.
Chenango County Planning Department announced that they are seeking more public comments on the Hazard Mitigation Plan, Shane Butler of the Planning Department Shane Butler told WCDO News about the process:

The plan is available at chenangocountyny.gov/Hazard-Mitigation, interested citizens have until the end of May to comment.
The Unadilla Food Pantry is having an open house on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at their location, at 172 Main Street. Participants will tour the facility & meet with volunteers & learn about their programs.
The Oneonta Town Board has approved a 1 year moratorium to stop new data centers or cryptocurrency mining. The moratorium affects plans by Eco-Yotta from building a data center on County Road 9 in the Town of Oneonta, the plan requires State Approval to be implemented.
Regatta Row will be set up for another week in the Bainbridge Business District, the canoe paddle Adirondack chairs will be brought to the General Clinton Canoe Regatta grounds next Friday & they will be auctioned off at 4:00 PM Saturday May 23rd in the Chamber of Commerce tent at General Clinton park during the canoe regatta. The auctions will start online at 32auctions.com.

The day will include an 8 team softball tournament, concessions, Hot Air Balloon Rides, face painting, music, Cornhole raffles & door prizes. ALL proceeds from the event go to Athletic awards, Scholarships and Youth sports programs.
