Delaware County Sheriff's Office responded On Saturday night, January 25th, to a multi-vehicle accident on Sherwood Road in the Town of Delhi. Deputies interviewed the operator of each involved vehicle, 19-year-old Colin Stemmerman of Nanuet, was charged with Aggravated DWI- Blood Alcohol Content .18 or higher, Driving While Intoxicated, & Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Motor Vehicle Accident, Stemmerman was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court and was released to appear at a later date.
Chobani had their new site plan changes approved by the Rome Planning Board on Tuesday night, as they continue with their expansion plans in New York State. Chobani was leasing over 168 acres on a golf course from Oneida County, but the acreage has been reduced to 93 acres in the new plan, Chobani plans to have the new facility running in 2027, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Town of Sidney Board member Kevin Greene and Engineer Darius Palmer are exploring a plan to possibly turn part of the former Acco complex into an aviation college. A meeting was held Friday with local lawmakers, Economic Development experts & SUNY Delhi representatives to see if these plans could come to fruition, according to Kevin Greene:

Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon found along State Highway 80 between Sherburne and Columbus was tested by the Wadsworth Laboratories, and was found to have rabies. Residents and visitors in the area are advised to not pick up or handle any stray or wild animal, If your pet or livestock is behaving strangely contact your veterinarian immediately. Norwich Police arrested 43 year old Donald Craw of Delhi, following a vehicle pursuit Saturday that began in downtown and ended in a field off Chenango County Road l0A. At approximately 11:30 pm. officers attempted to stop a Craw's motorcycle after observing multiple traffic violations, he failed to comply and led officers on a pursuit, where he ran stop signs, nearly struck another motorist, and reached speeds double the posted limit. Craw traveled across a field & abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to flee on foot, he was caught after a brief struggle, & was taken into custody, Police recovered a large quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl, along with drug packaging materials and a digital scale, he was wanted on multiple warrants, Craw was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Resisting Arrest, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on no bail. Additional charges are expected.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a driver known to have a suspended drivers license. Prior to conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed the driver and the passenger switch seats. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies observed drugs and paraphernalia in plain view & conducted a search of the vehicle, a quantity of crack cocaine and fentanyl was removed from the vehicle. Deputies arrested 23 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart and 30 year old Dustin Roberts of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Both Eignor and Roberts were released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced an 8 count indictment Friday has been filed against 54 year old Joseph Bellows of Downsville, from the crash that occurred in Hancock on July 17th, that resulted in the death of East Branch Assistant Fire Chief Jason McGlone. DA Smith said that the most serious charge of 2nd degree Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 5 to 15 years in jail if Bellows is convicted.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Gerald Walke of Walton for Promoting Prison Contraband. On August 23rd, Delaware County Corrections Division, reported that Walke received a prohibited item during visitation and intervened, The item was recovered and the visitor was removed from the facility. Walke was processed and issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charge.
On Friday, Delaware County Corrections Officers were conducting a search of 37 year-old Matthew McLean, of Delhi on unrelated Bail Jumping Charges, they located a crystal type substance folded into a one-dollar bill, which was revealed to be Methamphetamine. McLean was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility om $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

The Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Restore Justice, which resulted in the rescue of 115 children and the arrests of 205 offenders in the nationwide crackdown. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of five days by all 55 FBI field offices. Locally, Jerry Butler of Walton was charged, he is accused of using a social messaging application to request and receive sexually explicit content from a minor, he is believed to be involved in the "764" network, whose members seek to corrupt and exploit vulnerable populations, including minors, He faces at least 15 years in prison. The Department urges the public to report suspected exploitation of a child through their tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI, at tips.fbi.gov, or by calling your local FBI field office.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Alyssa Jones of Bainbridge for Promoting Prison Contraband. Deputies received information that Jones entered the Correctional Facility for Central Arraignment on an unrelated arrest, a search revealed that Jones was in possession of a knife, she was arraigned at the Delaware County Central Arraignment Court & was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear at Delhi Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.

37 year old Paul Fontana, Jr. of Delhi pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Delaware County Court Monday. Fontana appeared for a scheduled suppression hearing, prior to the hearing, he pleaded guilty in order to satisfy an indictment which alleged that Fontana had illegally possessed 10 or more firearms, including “ghost guns” in his home. The Village of Delhi Police and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded after a complaint was lodged that Fontana was making threats to harm himself and others. Fontana will be sentenced to serve 6 years in state prison, and an additional 5 years of post-release supervision.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Nikita Kingsbury of Oneonta after she agreed to meet a confidential informant in Davenport for the purposes of selling controlled substances. Kingsbury arrived with her boyfriend, 43-year-old Lloyd Hunt, they were both taken into custody, they were in possession of Fentanyl and Suboxone at the time of their arrest. Hunt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was released on an appearance ticket, Kingsbury was arrested on an unrelated Bench Warrant issued by Delaware County Court for a failure to appear in Court, she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. Last Week, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kingsbury at the Delaware County Jail for Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Ashley Williams of Laurens on 2 counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance. Williams was arrested following an investigation into a report of loose horses in the road in the Town of Laurens on December 11th of last year. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Williams did not provided proper care for her animals, Williams was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Laurens Court for a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign at State Highway 10 and County Highway 26 in the Town of Hamden on June 27th.  Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 47 year-old James Eriksen of Delhi, a routine DMV inquiry revealed that Eriksen’s drivers’ license was revoked in 1996 for operating a motor vehicle without insurance.  Eriksen was charged aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign; he was released to appear in the Town of Hamden Court on a later date.

State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash that killed 37 year old Michael Vargas of Laurens, Friday Night to State Route 205, for a crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist, the vehicle left the scene, & Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene.   State Police arrested 22 year old Michael Goodspeed of Mount Vision, for Vehicular Manslaughter & Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Collision.   Goodspeed was transported to Otsego County Central Arraignment and Processing.
Delhi Fire fighters responded to a fire in the early Morning hours Friday on Elk Creek Road, the homeowners Michael & Lisa Buel were able to safely evacuate with their dog; however 5 of the family’s cats died in the fire. The Buels were taken to O’Connor Hospital for smoke inhalation; Michael Buel was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for further treatment.  Bloomville, Bovina, East Meredith, Meridale and Walton Fire Departments responded with several others on standby.   The fire was under control in about 3 hours, the home was a total loss, and no injuries were reported among firefighters.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 38 year old Dennis Lafferty of Unadilla for violating an order of protection earlier this month.  Deputies received a complaint from an Otsego County domestic violence victim earlier this month, reporting receiving a phone call from the Delaware County Correctional Facility where the victim’s alleged abuser was being housed for the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, Lafferty allegedly violated the terms of an order of protection issued by the Hartwick Town Court last November, by making calls to the protected party following his incarceration on April 13th.  Lafferty was charged with 4 counts of criminal contempt & he remains incarcerated in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, pending a court appearance in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date.
The Annual Re-dedication Ceremony at the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park originally scheduled for May 23rd has been canceled for this year.  Also the June 7th Annual Sidney Veterans Memorial Park Association Golf Tournament has been canceled for this year, due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced today that its Board of Directors has voted unanimously to cancel 2020 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend events as a result of health and safety concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Class of 2020 – consisting of Derek Jeter, Marvin Miller, Ted Simmons and Larry Walker – will be inducted on Sunday, July 25, 2021, in Cooperstown, alongside any new members elected as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
The Dick's Sporting Goods Open has been canceled for 2020.  The PGA TOUR Champions event was scheduled for August 10-16 at En Joie Golf Club in Endicott.  The Cancellation is due to the impact from the pandemic in the state of New York.  Anyone who has questions pertaining to tickets purchased for this year's event is advised to contact the Dick's Sporting Goods Open office at 607-205-1500.

The Village of Delhi Police Department announced that
41-year-old Jessica Ambrose of Sidney was served a criminal summons directing
her to appear in Delhi Town Court to answer complaints of Attempted Welfare
Fraud, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Offering a False
Instrument for Filing. The charges against Ambrose stem from complaints filed
by fraud investigators at the Delaware County Department of Social Services.
Ambrose will face court action shortly.
The 13th annual O’Connor
Hospital Invitational took place on September 18th at The College Golf Course
at Delhi, raising more than $40,000 to support hospital equipment and building

The New York Mets Monday announced
the winners of the 2019 Sterling Awards, emblematic of the top minor league
performers in New York’s farm system. Three of the seven honorees spent at
least part of the season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.  Mark Vientos was the Hitter of the Year; LHP
Kevin Smith was named Pitcher of the Year; Andrés Giménez was the Mets’
Defender of the Year; and Sam Haggerty was the system’s top baserunner. Haggerty
was a September call up to New York, he scored his first big league run September

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint of a red motorcycle on State Highway 28, in the village of Delhi, traveling at a high rate of speed. A responding Deputy was unable to safely pursue the motorcycle due to its speed. Deputies located and identified the operator of the motorcycle as 29 year old Kyle Vandewerker of Oneonta, who was clocked at 109 miles per hour. Vandewerker was issued Traffic Tickets for reckless driving, speeding, and speed not reasonable and prudent and was released to appear in the Town of Delhi Court to answer the charges on a later date.

Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.
