State Department of Transportation announced that major construction is complete on the $4 million roundabout project at The intersection of James F. Lettis Highway, Main Street & Maple Street in downtown Oneonta. The $4 million project began in the summer of 2025 and was funded through the Department's Highway Safety Improvement Program. It is the first of two projects in the City and Town of Oneonta, with a second project tentatively scheduled for the 2026 construction season to upgrade sidewalks and enhance the flow of traffic along State Routes 23 and 28 near the southern end of the Lettis Highway. In the coming weeks, some final touches will be added to the roundabout.

The United Way of Mid-Rural New York's Annual Campaign exceeded their goal of $562,900, Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco explains:

The money raised will go to 41 local organizations & 11 initiatives in the 4 counties that the United Way of Mid Rural New York Covers.

The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting applications for funding under the 2026 Tourism Promotion & Development Grant Program, for projects to attract visitors to Delaware County and enhance the overall tourism industry. The Applications Deadline is February 27, & should be mailed to Delaware County Department of Economic Development, 1 Courthouse Square, Suite 4 in Delhi, 13753. The Grant program is funded through revenues raised through the Delaware County Occupancy Tax, more information is available at dcecodev.com.

Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled proposals to strengthen New York’s gun laws by cracking down on 3D-printed and illegal firearms. The new legislation would establish criminal penalties for the manufacture of 3D-printed firearms and order minimum safety standards for 3D printer manufacturers to block the production of firearms and firearm components. The legislation would also require gun manufacturers to design their pistols so they cannot be modified into illegal machine guns, and require police departments and sheriffs’ offices to report recoveries of all 3D printed guns to the state.

The New Berlin Police Department & local firefighters responded to an accident on State Highway 23 near Sheff Road, where the vehicle caught on fire. The New Berlin Police Department reported that the road was closed in both directions following the accident, shortly before noon today, motorists were detoured around the site, more information will be released in the near future.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon at approximately 1:45 pm., Troopers were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on State Route 79 near Still Road in Harpursville. The preliminary investigation reveals that a 17-year-old male from Whitney Point was operating a pick-up truck when he collided with a Town of Colesville dump truck, The 17-year-old was transported to Wilson Hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The 20-year-old operator of the dump truck did not report any injuries. The investigation is on-going. More will be released when it is available.

A former Broome-Tioga BOCES employee is facing charges after an investigation into inappropriate conduct with a BOCES student. On November 12, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office received a referral from the New York State Child Abuse Hotline regarding inappropriate conduct between a juvenile student and a member of the Broome-Tioga BOCES faculty. 51 year old Evan Thorson of Endicott was charged with Child Endangerment and Official Misconduct, a warrant & an Order of Protection was issued by the Town of Dickinson Court. Thorson turned himself in and was processed on Monday. Thorson was no longer employed by BroomeTioga BOCES.

The State Department of Health has confirmed that the State's childhood vaccination policies remain unchanged despite recent federal revisions to immunization recommendations. The Department confirmed that there will be no changes to vaccine access, insurance coverage or the federal Vaccines for Children program, which provides vaccines at no cost to eligible children. Health care providers in New York State are advised to continue their "evidence-based immunization practices." State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald. "There was no new science, safety data or discovery presented by the federal government."

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old Gregory Haggerty of South New Berlin, for DWI, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 or higher, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Failure to Keep Right & several other charges, following a reported accident in the Town of Morris. Haggerty fled the scene on foot, Deputies located the vehicle down an embankment off of State Highway 23 and Wells Rd. Haggerty was located down the road and found to be intoxicated by alcohol, he was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for arrest processing & was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

The New York Lottery announced 2 second-prize-winning tickets were sold for the December 24th Powerball drawing, 1 ticket was sold at Smiley's on West Main Street in Sidney & another in Lindenhurst, worth $1,000,000. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm. 1 ticket sold in Arkansas that matched all six numbers, for a prize of $1.8 billion dollars, which ranks as the 2nd-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Deposit Fire Department responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford. A candle had accidentally caught a chair on fire in a single family residence. The fire was able to be extinguished by the resident prior to crews arriving on scene. 20 home candle fires are reported each day across the country, If you use open flame candles, make sure they are in stable holders and place them where they cannot be knocked down easily. Keep them at least 12 inches away from anything that burns and be sure to blow out all candles when you leave a room or home, or when you go to bed.

The FBI arrested 59 year old Peter Bardunias of Clifton Park, for attempting to entice a minor to engage in prohibited sexual activity. The complaint alleges that over the past 2 weeks, Bardunias, who is a Senior Vice President with the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, sent messages to an individual he believed to be a 15 year-old girl during which he discussed violent and sadistic sexual activity, however the individual was an undercover law enforcement official. Bardunias traveled to meet the would-be minor and was taken into custody. A federal search warrant executed at Bardunias’ residence found sex toys, restraints and a knife, he was ordered held in by a Federal Court judge Tuesday pending a detention hearing set for this Friday.

24 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Possession of a Firearm, back on January 12th, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Buena Vista in Delhi for a suspicious person & drug complaint involving 2 vehicles. Eignor was observed getting out of a vehicle with a backpack that contained a firearm. Co-defendant Kenneth Dillmann, previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3½ to 7 years in state prison, Eignor is expected to be sentenced to 1 year in jail for this conviction at a later date.

The Unadilla Fire Department was alerted to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on State Route 7 near the State Police Barracks, around 12:00 AM earlier today, Unadilla Firefighters were able to make an aggressive push into the residence and contain the fire to the room of origin. Crews were back and in service by 4:45am, Unadilla was assisted by Sidney Fire Department & EMS, and the Wells Bridge, Franklin, Otego & Sidney Center Fire Departments.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed the impact of rising health insurance premiums on New Yorkers across the state and to call on Republicans to extend the health insurance subsidies before the November 1st deadline,

Without an extension, Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits will expire at the end of 2025, causing 20 million Americans to see a sudden increase in their health insurance costs. This includes at least 1.6 million New Yorkers, who will face an average yearly increase of $1,360 in the amount they pay for their premiums,

A Chenango County Grand Jury handed up felony indictments recently, Shane Lum was indicted for criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of cocaine, following a June 1st arrest in New Berlin. Also, Sherri Campbell was indicted for failing to register an address change, within the 10 days required by law for sex offenders, both will appear in Chenango County Court in the near future.

A Chenango County grand jury has handed up multiple felony indictments including drug possession and burglary. Valerie Anstey was indicted on 2 counts of 2nd degree burglary and 1 count of falsely reporting an incident, for allegedly entering a Greene residence on August 24th & 25th and filed a false trespass complaint with law enforcement. A Chenango County Grand Jury also indicted Loren Wildenstein Jr. for 3rd degree burglary and petty larceny, for allegedly entering a New Berlin Property on July 8 and for stealing property. The defendants are expected to appear in Chenango County Court for arraignments in the near future.

State Police responded Thursday morning to a motor vehicle crash on State Route 20 in Duanesburg. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 BMW driven by an unidentified 17 year old failed to make a complete stop as it turned left onto Route 20 & collided with a minivan driven by 63 year old Barbara Bryant of Schenevus, who was taken to an area hospital & succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. The driver and 2 passengers in the BMW, and a passenger in the minivan, 36 year old Robert Gaudino of Burlington Flats, were taken to Albany Medical Center. The driver of the BMW, was issued a traffic citation for failing to stop at a stop sign. The investigation remains ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul today directed flags on all State government buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of West Colesville Fire Chief James Sitek, who passed away on July 6 in the line of duty, while responding to a fire in Conklin. Flags will be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, July 10.

An Audit by the State Comptroller's Office found that the state Department of Health is not adequately overseeing adult care facilities, they failed to conduct timely inspections and lacked documentation to show critical problems were corrected. 18% of allegations had no evidence they were investigated. a few did not have evidence of any plans for an investigation at all. There were 534 adult care facilities operating in New York, serving 37,547 residents. The Audit can be found at osc.ny.gov.

The Binghamton Police Department have released the names of the 2 people who died in a 3 car wreck Monday afternoon at the Court Street construction site in the City's East End. The deceased operator of a Sedan was 49 year old Safwan Aziz of Binghamton, the deceased operator of the SUV was 71 year old Rafael Cuadra of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania , the unidentified driver of the 3rd vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that more than $36 million has been awarded to 48 projects across New York State through the County Infrastructure Grant Program. Locally, The City of Norwich was awarded $1 Million Dollars to build 20 new housing units on Plymouth Street to serve residents 62 years old and older, as well as individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness. Funding for this project will allow for infrastructure expansions required to service these homes, including a new sanitary sewer, water supply system, and storm-water system, as well as streets, curbs, and sidewalks.

The Town of New Berlin announced a ROAD CLOSURE today, on Homesville Hill Road. Motorists in the area are advised to use County 34 as an alternate route. The repairs will go on between 6:00 am. to 3:00 pm. today. Also, Unadilla officials announced that Kilkenny Street from Clifton Street to Village line will be closed from 6:15 am to approximately 2:00 pm today.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Ryan Oltjenbruns of Unadilla for 2nd 7 3rd Degree Assault, Harassment & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following a domestic incident in the Town of Unadilla. Oltjenbruns allegedly engaged in a physical domestic dispute with a family member in the presence of a minor, by striking the victim in the face, causing serious injury. The victim was transported to Bassett Hospital and later to Albany Medical Center for additional medical treatment, Oltjenbruns was taken in to custody and processed at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, he was arraigned & was released on his own recognizance and issued an order of protection was issued on behalf of the the victim.

Terrell Heyward of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Murder in Broome County Court and he faces a sentence of up to life in State Prison. On January 11th, Binghamton Police Department responded to 21 Exchange Street, for a report of shots fired, Sarah Hauer was pronounced dead at the scene. Heyward faces Sentencing on August 6th in Broome County Court.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Robert Harris of New Lisbon for 2 counts of Criminal Contempt Friday, following an investigation in to allegations of domestic violence in the Town of New Lisbon. Investigation revealed that during the month of February Harris located a family member at a residence in the Town of Pittsfield and placed the victim in fear for their life by brandishing a baseball bat, he violated a court order prohibiting him from contacting the victim. Harris was located in New Berlin and taken in to custody without incident, he was processed at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to correctional staff for Arraignment.

Delaware County Public Health, the New York National Guard and New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, is hosting a Citizen Preparedness Training Event on Wednesday, June 11th, Isabella Ziolkowski of Delaware County Public Health explains:

54 year old Jason Burress of Bainbridge appeared in Delaware County Court last week & was sentenced to 6 months in jail. Sidney Police initiated a traffic stop in Sidney on July 11, 2024, Burress was believed to be impaired by drugs, lab test showed that Burress was impaired by methamphetamine. Burress pleaded guilty in April to Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, he will serve his term at the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Aaron Alshaman has been charged with 4 counts of attempted murder and 1 count of Arson, he allegedly set a home on fire on April 9th, while his infant child, the child's mother and her parents were inside. All occupants escaped without injury, an Oneida County Grand Jury has indicted Alshaman on the charges, he faces arraignment on the Grand Jury Indictment shortly.

Chenango County Department of Public Works announced the closure of the bridge on North Chenango Street over Birdsall Brook in Greene will be closed on May 12th, and will remain closed for 3 to 5 months. Otsego County Office of Emergency Services reported that an early morning fire at about 4:45 this morning at 451 County Highway 21 in the town of Plainfield resulted in a fatality. The fire destroyed the home, Unadilla Forks Fire Department received aid from the West Winfield Fire Department, The fire was reported by a passing motorist, indicating that the house was fully involved. The Cause of this fire is currently under investigation, and the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services is being assisted with the investigation by the New York State Police and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control

The Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of the State of Kentucky. Norwich Police Department detectives arrested 47 year old Trey Kirk of Norwich, on several warrants out of Boone County Kentucky for fleeing and evading police officers. Kirk was picked up at a local business in the City of Norwich and held for arraignment on the Fugitive from Justice Warrant.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year old Lance Jennings of Burlington for Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing & Harassment, after Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Burlington on January 4th, Jennings was arrested & was processed and released after being issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Burlington Court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Elijah Conklin of New Berlin after he falsely reported a car theft. Deputies were told by Conklin that his vehicle was stolen out of his driveway when he was not home, he signed documents, vehicle information was shared with the Otsego County, where they reported that the vehicle had been involved in an accident and the driver fled the scene. Chenango Deputies determined that Conklin was the driver that fled the scene, Deputies returned Conklin was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Hill City Celebrations announced that their annual Festival of Lights will be open to the public starting this Saturday at Neahwa Park in Oneonta, through January 1st. Charlotte Bennett voluntarily dismissed her federal lawsuit against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and 3 of his top aides, but will continue to pursue her case in State Court. Bennett filed the lawsuit in federal court 2 years ago, which faced numerous delays and various tactics by Cuomo's legal team. Bennett started working for New York State in 2019, she claimed that Cuomo sexually harassed her while she worked as an executive assistant, she resigned from the position and pursued legal action, Cuomo denied the allegations, but eventually resigned as Governor.

State Police & multiple area Fire Departments responded to 68 White Birch Lake Road in the town of Windsor Sunday for a house fire. 84 year old Daniel Price, was located deceased inside the residence by members of the Windsor Fire Department. An 82-year-old female and a 53-year-old male were transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center for what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested two State of Louisiana residents on several weapons charges, as well as charges from a Domestic Dispute. 27 year old Jennifer Cascio, and 40 year old Jonathan Rieben were arrested after a domestic dispute in the Town of New Berlin. Deputies found that Cascio and Rieben were in possession of several handguns, high-capacity magazines, as well as an assault weapon. Deputies verified that the firearms were not stolen. Both subjects were arrested, and all weapons were seized for the time being. Cascio, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Rieben was charged with Harassment and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both were released and were ordered to appear in court at a later date.

State Police are reminding people to keep their vehicles locked and to never leave valuables in the vehicle. Criminals are finding vehicles that are unlocked and stealing valuables, also Police remind gun owners to never leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle, it is now a crime in New York to leave a firearm in a vehicle and could result in misdemeanor charges. ALL firearms out of your immediate control should be unloaded and stored in a safe storage depository which requires a key, keypad or other mechanism to access it.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield on a number of charged following an investigation. Adams was charged with 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt. Investigation revealed that over the course of several years, Adams allegedly subjected minors to persistent sexual abuse, Additionally he is accused of killing a family pet near children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he then sent Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Chenango County Health Department reported that a skunk found along State Highway 8 in South New Berlin tested positive for rabies at the State Lab in Albany. Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.

Early Sunday, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a fatal, 1 car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 23 in the Town of Davenport, that claimed the life of a Davenport resident. An investigation revealed that at approximately 1:03AM, 18 year old Jayden Aviles of Tarrytown was traveling Eastbound on State Highway 23, he was unable to maintain control of the vehicle on a curve, left the roadway, crashing into a private home, 2 sleeping people in the home were seriously injured, 34 year old Larry Vankeuren succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. This investigation is ongoing.

Norwich Police Department attempted to stop an UTV Saturday afternoon that was illegally driving on Mitchell Street in the City of Norwich. 22 year old Michael Bliss of New Berlin was charged with DWI and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Bliss is accused of trying to flee officer, Bliss flipped his UTV at the Rexford Street bridge as he tried to turn onto State Highway 23.

Binghamton Police are investigating a fatal shooting early Saturday morning at The North Side Deli on Chenango Street, officers were made aware that a male had arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds, was provided with emergency surgery and died several hours later. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time.

The City of Oneonta Fire and Police Departments continue to investigate a fire that occurred at 47 Chestnut Street Thursday afternoon. Oneonta Firefighters located the fire in a second-floor street-side bedroom and quickly brought it under control. It was then discovered that what is believed to be gasoline had been present in the room, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Jason Stevenson, the investigation indicated that Stevenson ignited what is believed to be gasoline inside the bedroom before taking his own life with a firearm, and the investigation is continuing.

19 year old Qualem Hernandez of Binghamton, was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty in June to Criminal Possession of a weapon. Hernandez opened fire in April at a group of 4 individuals on Susquehanna Street in the City of Binghamton, Binghamton Police were able to identify Hernandez from surveillance cameras when he fled the scene, while still in possession of the firearm.

29 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was sentenced to 6 years in prison and two years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez pleaded guilty and admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, 2024, and that she had intended to sell it.

Sidney Fire Department responded at about 11:30 this morning for the report of smoke showing at 11 Division Street. Sidney Fire Chief John GIlmore told WCDO News that a faulty light bulb in the basement was the cause of the smoke, no injuries were reported.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office said that 2 people were taken to area hospitals, following a serious accident on State Route 369 in the Town of Fenton on Saturday. The investigation revealed that at approximately 5:52 PM, the driver of a silver Honda Civic traveling northbound on State Route 369 near Rogers Road failed to negotiate a turn and crossed over into the southbound lane, colliding with a purple SUV. No fatalities were reported, but both drivers were hospitalized and treated for serious injuries. The unidentified driver of the Honda Civic was issued multiple traffic violations.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Jeremy Vanpelt of New Berlin following an investigation of a domestic dispute in the Town of Edmeston. Vanpelt was charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Circulation, Aggravated Harassment, & 2 counts of Harassment, he was later arrested on a probation violation, he was processed and was held at the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. An order of protection was issued to the victims of the domestic dispute.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of renovations at Red Mill Apartments, a $5.2 million, 18-unit affordable housing complex in the town of New Berlin in Chenango County. The rehabilitation included gutting the building interior and extensive repairs to the exterior. The building received a new roof, siding, windows, walls, and doors; upgraded heating, plumbing, electric, and septic pump systems; and a new fire alarm system for the complex. State Supreme Court Justice Daniel Doyle blocked an abortion rights amendment from appearing before New York State voters on the November ballot today. Judge Doyle found that state lawmakers failed to follow procedural rules around passing constitutional amendments, incorrectly approving the amendment before getting a written opinion on the language from the attorney general.

State Police were dispatched Saturday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the town of Ithaca. 19 year old Max Ross of Lafayette Louisiana was in stable condition at Packer Hospital in Sayre, 30 year old Blake Curtis of the Cornell University Police Department has been charged with Vehicular Assault and DWI, Curtis immediately called 911. The investigation is ongoing.

The state Office of General Services has discontinued holding periodic auctions of state surplus vehicles and highway equipment at various locations around the state. State vehicles will be auctioned off online only, along with other surplus items such as used desks or computer screens, tools, & other items that state government workers no longer need. The switch to auctioning vehicles started on May 1. Bidders will no longer be required to show up in person to bid on a vehicle, and OGS and its partner agencies will not have to transport surplus items to auction sites.

Binghamton Police arrested a 17 year old juvenile & seized a “ghost gun” & a high capacity magazine during a stop of a stolen vehicle. The unidentified 17-year-old fled from the vehicle and was pursued by the Binghamton Police & was captured. The Juvenile was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon & obstructing governmental administration.

State University of New York Board of Trustees announced an additional allocation of $114 million in direct state tax support across the state-operated SUNY campuses from the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted New York State budget. The money will be used for salary increases and internship funding,

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Elizabeth Gajdzis of New Berlin for 2nd degree Burglary, 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On March 30th, The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the Town of New Berlin. Gajdzis is accused of stealing the vehicle, On April 1, she contacted a member of the Detectives Division regarding a separate matter and agreed to meet the Detective, she was arrested, was processed, arraigned & was remanded back to the correctional on cash bail and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Oneonta Police Department responded last night to investigate a reported gunshot wound victim at Fox Hospital's emergency room. Officers learned that a 51-year-old male victim was transported by a 3rd party in a private vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police. The victim stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet. Police searched the location & no evidence was found. Hospital Security Staff were able to provide surveillance video of the vehicle and individual dropping the victim off at the hospital. The Binghamton Police Department arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City for leaving the scene of a pedestrian hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon. Binghamton Police responded at Court and Water streets for a report of a person who was crossing the road being struck by a vehicle, the victim was a 45 year old man from Binghamton, He was transported to an area hospital w& was in critical condition. Detectives found the suspect and their vehicle later, he was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket.

40 year old Jesse Barnum of Endicott was arrested in Pennsylvania on multiple felony charges for failing to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act. Barnum was found hiding under a blanket in the rear of a van, he was arrested and extradited to appear in Broome County and Town of Union courts. On Friday, April 1, 2024, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Warrants Division and the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force traveled to Scranton area, Barnum was wanted 2 separate counts of Failure to Register Under the Sex Offender Registration Act, plus Bail Jumping.

Craig Ross Jr. pleaded guilty Wednesday to 1st-degree kidnapping and predatory sexual assault of a child, according to the Saratoga County district attorney, and faces 47 years to life in prison. Ross abducted 9 year old Charlotte Sena on September 30th from Moreau Lake State Park, as she was riding her bicycle while picnicking with her family, she disappeared and a search led to Ross 2 days later when state police troopers and an FBI SWAT team stormed a camper Ross was staying in. Rescuers found the girl alive in a cabinet. The guilty plea comes prior to a trial that was scheduled in April, Ross will be sentenced on April 17.

35 year old Charles Harrison of Binghamton was sentenced Thursday to serve 48 months in federal prison following his trial and conviction for possessing a firearm as convicted felon. The trial evidence demonstrated that, following his 2012 conviction in a federal court for Conspiracy to Possess and Distribute controlled substances, Harrison was serving the final portion of his sentence at a halfway house in Connecticut, he escaped, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest, US Marshals found him in March 2022 hiding under a mattress in an apartment in Binghamton, Marshals also located a loaded handgun next to Harrison, the jury voted to convict him of possessing the firearm Harrison was sentenced to serve 3 years of supervised release to begin after his prison sentence.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested Thomas Taranto of South New Berlin for DWI, on State Highway 8 in the Town of Masonville. On January 11th, Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 72 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, they performed a traffic stop & charged Taranto with driving while ability impaired by drugs, Speeding, obstructed plate, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Taranto released on the traffic tickets and an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that Carheem Felton of Binghamton pleaded guilty Wednesday to Criminal Possession of a Weapon, on August 2nd 2022, Felton opened fire at another individual at the Northside Deli in Binghamton, Binghamton Police Department located Felton attempting to flee the scene while still in possession of the firearm. Felton will be sentenced April 17th to 9 years in prison and 5 years post release supervision.

The Sidney Center Improvement Group annual meeting will be held this coming Monday, at 6:30pm at the Sidney Center Fire Hall. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 25 year old Zachary Rowe of Harpursville appeared in Delaware County Court and pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Rowe appeared in Delaware County Court for a court conference on January 16th, he admitted that he possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on October 1, 2023, and he intended to sell fentanyl, he also admitted to using drugs in close proximity to a child. Rowe was sentenced to a 5-year term of felony probation supervision, he must successfully complete the Delaware County Adult Treatment Program, if he does not successfully complete the program, he will be re-sentenced to 4 years in state prison and two years of post-release supervision.

The State Police are continuing the special enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired and reckless driving this holiday season. The enforcement campaign is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative and runs from Wednesday, December 13, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide. During last year’s crackdown, State Police arrested 453 people for DWI and issued 32,934 tickets, including 11,305 tickets for speeding, 912 for distracted driving, and 316 for the “Move Over Law.”

Norwich Firefighters responded early Thursday Morning to 137 Horstman Lane for a reported structure fire in a mobile home, they located a fire in the ceiling and roof area of the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the fire containing it to the room of origin along with ensuring all occupants were clear of the structure. Firefighters from New Berlin & North Norwich also responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported & all occupants safely evacuated without injuries.

On Saturday at approximately 5:30 pm; The Otsego County 911 Center received multiple 911 calls reporting an explosion and residential structure fire on Richards Avenue in the Town of Oneonta. The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.

1 person has died as a result of a house fire Friday night at 72 Colfax Avenue in Binghamton, 2 dogs were also killed by the flames. Binghamton Fire fighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames coming from 72 Colfax spreading to 74 Colfax Ave. Firefighters removed 1 person from the house, who was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced dead. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Unadilla Fire was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on Kilkenny Road, at about 4:15 Saturday afternoon. Additional personnel were called in from Franklin, Wells Bridge, and Sidney Fire departments, it took approximately 25 minutes to get the fire knocked down.

The Tioga County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32 year old Boyd Fenton of Athens, Pennsylvania was arraigned on a 105-count indictment for setting a fire at Tioga Downs that killed 30 horses, destroyed the barn, injured a trainer, he was indicted for arson, assault, burglary, 38 counts of criminal mischief, 30 counts of interference with or injury to domestic animals; 31 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; aggravated cruelty to animals; bail for Fenton has been set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 property and $250,000 secured bond.

Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.

A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fired a shotgun in the parking area of an Albany synagogue. No one was injured during the incident at the Temple Israel and the suspect was an unidentified 28-year-old man, who was quickly arrested, he made "threatening statements," during the incident. Police said that an early childhood center with at least two dozen preschoolers were on the premises. The parents were contacted, the facility went immediately into lockdown, Federal law enforcement is currently leading the investigation.

Attorney General Letitia James & a coalition of 21 attorneys general, support a proposed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives rule that would ensure more gun sales are subject to background checks. Following the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the ATF proposed a new regulation to clarify what it means for a person to be "engaged in the business" of dealing in firearms, and therefore required to obtain a license and run background checks when selling guns, that rule would close loopholes that allowed for the unlicensed sale of firearms, including online and at gun shows.

State Comptroller's office has completed audits of municipalities around the state, an audit of the Town of Colesville found that Officials did not always use a competitive process when purchasing goods or services and some officials were unfamiliar with the town's procurement policy requirements. In the village of Greene, officials developed a comprehensive investment program but did not effectively manage the program, they did not prepare monthly cash flow forecasts to estimate funds available for investment or monitor investments and did not formally solicit interest rate quotes or consider other legally permissible investment options.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.

A new survey on school safety has been released that places New York State near the bottom, ranking 45th out of 50 for overall student safety. Sidney Police Department arrested 33 year old Jesse Terry of Unadilla Wednesday, for criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs & resisting arrest amon other charges. Sidney Police received an alert about a stolen vehicle out of Oneonta, the vehicle was observed at a car wash, with State Police assisting the traffic stop, Terry did not comply and rammed the Sidney Police car, police pursued along West Main Street, the pursuit ended at the Circle Drive Apartments, where Terry hit 1 of the apartment buildings with the vehicle, he fled into an apartment building and was taken into custody, he was treated at the hospital & was later arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. More charges are pending.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Darren Moscato of Delhi, was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The indictment was unsealed, Count One accused Moscato of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, the other counts accuse him of Attempted Disseminating of Indecent Material to Minors, Engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a minor with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual activity, and for sending explicit pictures to the minor. Moscato was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, pending a conference on July 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 58 year old Mark Seeley of Walton, was sentenced to 2 years in the County Jail for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. On September 11, 2022, Seeley, threatened several individuals, the Court issued orders of protection for the victims, Seeley violated the orders of protection multiple times. On May 8th, Seeley agreed to a plea deal in County Court, but on May 31st, State Police were contacted by the victims who had discovered that Seeley posted about the victims on social media. Due to the numerous violations the District Attorney’s Office voided the plea & Seeley was sent to jail.

State Police and other law enforcement agencies continue to search the State Route 79 area and continue to maintain a presence searching for a man that may be a threat to himself and others in Chenango Forks. State Police said that the man may be armed, residents from Route 369 to Richards Road were advised to stay inside, keep their doors and vehicles locked. State Route 79 has been re-opened to traffic. The suspect is described as a white male, with dark hair, approximately 6 foot 1 inches tall and 275 pounds, last seen wearing a black shirt, light-colored pants or shorts and may be wearing glasses. Anyone with information should call 911, & should not approach the suspect..

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino will unveil the signage for the newly named 1st Lieutenant Stephen Doane Bridge spanning the West Branch of the Delaware River in Walton, Doane's actions saved the lives of his fellow soldiers at the cost of his own life. Over the past 24 hours, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from residents who received phone calls from individuals pretending to be detectives or deputies of the BCSO. Residents were informed that they had missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines, the scammer will request payment in the form of credit card information or other means. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone, Residents who receive scam calls are urged to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.

The State Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control is releasing 3 new reports that point to the effectiveness of ongoing tobacco control policies adopted in the State over the last few years. The New York Youth Tobacco Survey of middle and high school students, found a decrease in cigarette smoking from 27.1% in 2000 to an all-time low of 2.1% among high school students. A 2nd report showed a decrease from 14.1% to 12.0% between 2017 and 2021. A 3rd report found that flavored vaping product sales and use decreased across the State following the implementation of a ban on flavored vaping products and new limits on the legal age to purchase other products.

State Police at Sidney responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and SUV on State Route 8 near County Road 35 in the town of Guilford. An investigation at the scene revealed that the SUV was on State Route 35 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a tractor trailer that had been traveling on State Route 8. The driver of the SUV, 27 year old Erin Hazen of South New Berlin was transported to A.O Fox Hospital - Tri Town. A passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the tractor trailer, 51 year old Sergei Maliutin of Cohoes, did not report any injury.

Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 33 year old Christopher Snyder of West Winfield for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Saturday afternoon, May 27th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton, at 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Snyder's driving privileges were suspended, he was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Snyder released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

A new Sienna College Poll shows that 2/3 of New Yorkers and more than 50% of Democrats think that former Governor Andrew Cuomo shouldn’t run for Governor again this year. If Cuomo enters the race against Kathy Hochul, he trails her 38-30%, Hochul was Cuomo’s lieutenant governor before he resigned in August. Hochul still has a commanding lead in the upcoming primary, over announced candidates New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and Long Island Congressman Tom Suozzi.

Governor Kathy Hochul and Erie County officials announced an agreement between New York State, Erie County and the NFL's Buffalo Bills franchise for a $1.4 billion new stadium in Orchard Park. The Governor secured a 30-year commitment for the Bills to remain in Buffalo, and a combined $550 million from the NFL and Bills - it was approved today by the NFL owners. The Governor will advance a $600 million proposal in the state budget, and Erie County will contribute $250 million. The economic and tax impacts generated from the team will support more than 100% of the public share of the new stadium cost.

The New York State Department of Agriculture issued an order prohibiting all live fowl shows and exhibitions in New York State this year to help prevent the spread of the avian flu that has hit 17 states so far. Four flocks have tested positive for the avian flu so far in New York. It's also been detected in wild birds, including snow geese and wild ducks across the State. Several other states have joined New York, banning poultry exhibitions including Arkansas, Iowa, and Georgia. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.

The Oneonta West Street construction project between Chestnut and Center streets began today, and will continue weekdays from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM through Mid August. The project calls for the replacement of water mains, sewer mains, manholes, catch basins, fire hydrants sidewalks & related infrastructure. Detours will be posted, Construction work will be done between 7 am. and 3:30 pm. on week days and is expected to be completed in August prior to the return of students to SUNY Oneonta & Hartwick College.

State Police responded Saturday to a report of a fire at home on Johnson Road in the town of Kirkwood. Troopers arrived on the scene and found that 87 year old Nancy Wellman had been removed from the home, a 2nd woman was still inside the residence, Members from the State Police utilized fire extinguishers in an attempt to locate 94 year old Eve Roys, who was ultimately located by members of the Five Mile Point Fire Department. Both women were transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital, Roys died at the hospital, the investigation is on-going.

The State Health Department reported Saturday that the COVID positivity Rate was still at 2.3% after over 120,000 tests were conducted & over 2700 were positive. Patient Hospitalization are still declining, down to 823, with 135 ICU patients & 57 on Ventilators, there were 7 deaths attributed to the virus in Hospitals & Nursing homes.

Delaware County Public Health announced that this will be the final weekly COVID-19 Dashboard posting. The County posted 51 new cases of COVID 19 in the week of March 19th through the 25th. there have been 15 deaths in Delaware County from the Virus since January 1st.

Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Angela Harrington of New Berlin on a Family Court Warrant issued by Chenango County. Harrington was remanded to Chenango County Correctional Facility and is to appear to Chenango County Family Court at a later date.

The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that a grand jury has filed charges against 2 murder suspects in Broome County Court regarding unrelated homicide cases. Mitchell Lindow was charged with 1st degree murder in connection to a December 2nd stabbing, where Lindow allegedly killed David Royes while committing a felony burglary at 110 Main Street in Binghamton by stabbing him multiple times. Korchak also said that Kyle Babola is charged with 2nd degree murder for the killing of Scott Grover with a machete in Johnson City. Both face court action at a later date.

Oneonta City meetings returned to in person events this week, with certain restrictions regarding the ongoing COVID 19 issue.

The State Office of Cannabis Management announced proposed regulations for the Medical Cannabis Program that implement certain provisions of the state’s new Cannabis Law. The Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act included updates to the program designed to consider environmental impacts and create efficiencies, & also includes technical changes to the regulations to formally shift the program from the Department of Health to Office of Cannabis Management. The regulations were submitted to the Cannabis Control Board for its review and approval at its meeting on Thursday, i the Board approves, the regulations will advance to a 60-day public comment period.

The Binghamton Police Department arrested 36 year old Marquetta James of Connecticut for 2nd degree arson, in connection with the fire at 159 Conklin Avenue yesterday. Binghamton Police Detectives found James at a local hotel, Authorities stated that James was an acquaintance to 1 of the residents in the building. 20 adults and 9 children were displaced by the fire.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that 42 year old Brian Whipple of New Berlin pleaded guilty to child pornography charges on Monday. Whipple was arrested in June 2020, he had over 5,000 child pornography images and videos, he will likely serve 5 to 20 years in jail & will have to register as a sex offender upon his release.

State Police responded Monday to a 2-vehicle crash on State Route 26 in the town of Maine. The investigation revealed that 32 year-old  Alainna Stemple of Binghamton and 19 year old Nathan Baker of Glen Aubrey collided on State Route 26. Both operators were extricated by fire personnel, Stempel was taken to a Wilson hospital, where she later died, Baker was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. The investigation continues.

Finney said that the Emergency Department had not been renovated in more than 30 years & needed to be upgraded to handle the current needs of the Greater Chenango County Area residents for Health Care. Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Mirabito's Gas Station in the Town of South New Berlin Sunday. The employee stated that a male walked into the store and demanded money, when the suspect was unsuccessful in getting the money, he fled the scene. A State Police Unit came into contact with the vehicle that was reported in the crime, on State Highway 320 in the Town of Norwich with the assistance from the Norwich City Police Department. 28 year old Jesey Smith of Spencer was charged with Attempted Robbery, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Smith is scheduled to re-appear back in the New Berlin Court at a later date. The occupants of the Smith vehicle have not been charged and the case is still under investigation.

New York would extend the option to request an absentee ballot through the rest of 2022 under a bill that passed in the State Senate and Assembly. The bill will allow voters to request absentee ballots if they are concerned about voting in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill heads to Governor Hochul’s desk for her consideration.

New York sportsbooks took more than $600 million worth of bets from phones or computers in the first two weeks of the activity becoming legal earlier this month. The New York State Gaming Commission reported that the 4 operating mobile books; FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars and Rush Street Interactive, handled more than $603 million worth of bets for the weeks ending Jan. 9 and 16, an additional $8.5 million in bets were made at in-person sportsbooks, bringing the total to $611.5 million.

According to preliminary figures released today by the State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased by 45,400 to 7,667,400 in December. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 6.6% to 6.2% in December.

State Police and multiple fire agencies responded to a house fire Thursday on Old State Road in the town of Kirkwood. Once the fire was extinguished by fire crews, 2 deceased individuals were discovered, The victims have been identified as 81 year old Peter Cirba and 81 year old Stephanie Cirba, no criminal activity is suspected in the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This past week Delaware County Public Health Services has received 496 new cases and reports 4 additional deaths related to COVID-19, officials remind residents to Wear masks in public indoor spaces and wash hands regularly, All individuals 5 and older should get fully vaccinated & All eligible individuals should get their booster dose.

The State Health Department & the Governor's Office announced that over 244,000 were tested for COVID 19 Saturday, with 19,186 positives, for a positivity rate of 7.84%, the lowest in weeks. Patient Hospitalization were down by 630 to 9,847, Patients in ICU went down by almost 50 to 1,457 & the number of those on ventilators was down by almost 40 to 845. New deaths reported by healthcare facilities from COVID was 134 on Saturday.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for November. Locally, Chenango County had 3.4% unemployment, Otsego & Delaware Counties both had 3.5%, the State's unemployment rate dropped 3/10th's to 6.6% in November.

Bassett Healthcare Network announced today that Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown and Cobleskill Regional Hospital have been placed on a state-wide list of facilities that currently have occupancies of 90% or more; A.O. Fox Hospital and Little Falls Hospital remain on that list. Those impacted facilities are also limiting non-essential elective procedures in accordance with an executive order enacted by the New York State Department of Health on December 3rd. Capacities at affected hospitals are being reassessed every 2 weeks. With rising cases of COVID-19 in the region, Bassett Healthcare Network will suspend visitation for the safety of patients and staff in all emergency departments across its network starting Wednesday.

Chenango County Health Department reports the continued increase in the number of COVID 19 cases in the county. The county has 301 active cases with 2/3rds unvaccinated, 523 are quarantined, 13 are hospitalized, all are unvaccinated, and there have been 92 COVID related deaths since the start of the pandemic. Otsego County Sheriff Rich Devlin announced the temporary closure of 2 housing units within the Jail today due to critically low staffing levels after consulting with the the State Commission of Correction, he talked to WCDO News about the need for positive changes coming from the Otsego County Board of Representatives:

Firefighters from Unadilla, Franklin, Wells Bridge, & Otego responded to a fire last night at 10:30 PM, at 43 Watson Street in Unadilla. The House and garage were fully involved, adult and 2 children were being treated for smoke inhalation, the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Unadilla Fire Department has posted a list of items the displaced residents need following the fire, it is posted on the Unadilla Fire Department Facebook page.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that she is making $65 million available to counties across New York State to help with the costs associated with administering vaccines and boosters and enforcing the mask-or-vaccine mandate for indoor public places that went into effect statewide last week. Up to $1 million will be available for most counties, with larger counties eligible to receive up to $2 million.

The State Health Department tested over 258,000, with 23,391 testing positive, for a Positivity rate of 9.04%. Patient Hospitalization are up to 4,020, with 769 in an ICU bed, and Patients on ventilators is up to 451, New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 60 on Sunday.

Delaware County Public Health reported 77 new cases of COVID 19 Saturday through Monday, there are 263 active cases, 4 hospitalized & 533 in quarantine.

Visitation is suspended at Otsego County Correctional Facility until further notice due to the increase in COVID cases in the area, according to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office. Otsego County Health Department reported 21 new cases Monday, there are 320 active COVID-19 cases, 12 people are hospitalized & there were 2 new deaths reported.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino announced $25,000 in funding to the Four County Library System to support libraries within the 122nd Assembly District. The most recent state budget allowed each legislator to submit aid requests on behalf libraries within their districts. The Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive $5,000, to purchase new technology items such as virtual reality headsets and a 3D printer. Other area libraries will receive $1,111 each, including Afton, Bainbridge, Deposit, Franklin, Gilbertsville, New Berlin, the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, plus Oxford, South New Berlin, Unadilla, & the Ogden Free Library in Walton.

Firefighters responded to the report of a Structure Fire at 26 Cushman Street in New Berlin Thursday Evening. The fire was confined to a garage & no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation, the New Berlin & South New Berlin Fire Department responded.

Governor Kathy Hochul has chosen State Senator Brian Benjamin of New York City to be her lieutenant governor, who accepted the position in New York City this afternoon:

Benjamin was the senior assistant majority leader in the State Senate, a special election will be held after Labor Day to fill Benjamin's State Senate Seat.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that she will fire individuals who allegedly contributed to a culture that allowed for sexual harassment under former Governor Andrew Cuomo who resigned this week after the the report by Attorney General Letitia James alleged that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. Former Cuomo Staffer Melissa DeRosa & Linda Lacewell have already resigned, Governor Hochul said that she would finish assembling her team within 45 days of her inauguration.

State Police announced that the driver in a fatal accident on I-81 in the town of Triangle Tuesday evening was 64 year old Paul Fridley of Fenton, Missouri. Troopers were dispatched Tuesday at about 6:15 PM for the report of a vehicle on its side & on fire. State Police are asking anyone who may have witness the crash of the Kia Sedona with Missouri plates, to call them at 775-1241.

State Police & Delaware County Emergency Management responded to the report of a woman falling from a rock ledge in the town of Andes Tuesday. 60 year old Corinne Whitaker of Hastings-on-Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s Office after falling from a cliff on the Snake Pond Hiking Trail at around 8:00 PM Tuesday. State Forest Rangers, the Andes Fire Department and LifeNet medevac assisted at the scene.

The State Department of Transportation announced that State Route 28 near Frank Slawson and Epps roads in the town of Franklin will close September 7th, for a culvert replacement over Knapp Brook. DOT Officials stated that motorists on State Route 28 will be detoured to take state Route 23 to Davenport Center and then take county Highway 10 to Meridale to connect back to state Route 28, the project is expected to be completed on September 22nd.

Governor Kathy Hochul has directed the State Department of Health to institute a universal mask requirement in all public & private schools, as determined necessary at the discretion of the Commissioner. The Department of Health will issue the requirement through regulatory action established by the Public Health and Health Planning Council. Governor Hochul will also pursue options to mandate vaccines for school employees or require weekly testing in the absence of vaccines and will continue to work with the Department of Health and the Legislature on establishing the mandate.

The American Red Cross continues to urge people to donate blood, as the severe Blood Shortage continues. Donors are strongly urged to give today at the Broad Street Methodist Church in at 74 North Broad Street in Norwich from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Another blood drive is being held today at the South New Berlin Fire Department on State Route 8, from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM. Registration is requested at Red Cross Blood.org.
