The Village of Sidney announced that the demolition of a fire damaged building will begin today. 14 East Main Street was damaged by fire a couple of years ago, the structure at the corner of East Main & Chestnut will be demolished, the project is expected to last between 3 & 5 days.


The Otsego County Health Department announced another COVID 19 death in their most recent report released Tuesday. The County had 48 new cases, 208 active cases, 8 are hospitalized, and the 7 day rolling average for positivity rate was 8.5%. Otsego County has had 878 COVID deaths since the pandemic started, 66 of them this year.


Former Broome District Attorney Steve Cornwell's case will be handled by a special prosecutor, instead of by current DA Michael Korchak. The 2 indictments accuse the former DA of public corruption and larceny during his 4-year term in office, Korchak spent 4 years as the chief assistant DA under Cornwell before taking office in January 2020 after a heated election between the 2 prosecutors.


The Former Fire House on East Main Street in Sidney will become "The Wakeman Coffee Company” soon, it will be a coffee shop & roastery, partners Sage McKinley & Jesse Wakeman told WCDO News how this business venture started, and what renovations have been done:

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her bipartisan Dairy Pricing Opportunity Act today, following the Senator’s Senate Agriculture Subcommittee hearing on modernizing milk pricing and the Federal Milk Marketing Order system:

Gillibrand said that the price increase for milk producers would have little affect on Milk prices in the upstate counties, as most people have their dairy supplied from farms close to their hometowns, plus farmers only receive pennies on the dollar for their role in milk priduction.

The State Health Department reported that over 130,000 COVID tests were conducted Monday, with close to 6600 positives, the positivity rate is back over 5%. Patient Hospitalization are approaching 3000, ICU patients are back up to 567, the number on ventilators was at 303, there were 41 deaths in Hospitals & nursing homes from COVID on Monday.


The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a Pfizer Vaccine Clinic at Afton Central School for children 5 and older today in the old gym at Door 13, on Sands Street, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The 3rd Annual Staff Works Save a Life fundraising campaign for the Delaware Valley Humane Society begins today, where donations made to the shelter will be matched by Staffworks, Humane Society Director Erin Insinga explains:

35 year old Patrick Kain of Norwich was sentenced in federal court Thursday to 35 years in jail & 20 years post release-supervision on 3 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and 1 count of committing a felony involving a minor by a registered sex offender. Kain was convicted in Chenango County Court of Sexual Abuse in 2014, which required him to register as a sex offender; he admitted that he created sexually explicit images & videos of 3 different victims approximately 5 years old.


Otsego County Sheriff Office arrested 33 year old Amanda Brown of Otego for Over-driving Torturing & injuring animals, & failure to provide sustenance. Brown was charged this week following a complaint to the Sheriff's Office, Brown Faces court action in Town of Otego Court at a later date.


The Afton Parks & Recreation Committee announced that they will host a Halloween Party on Saturday October 30th, at the River Club in Afton. Prizes will be awarded for the best Costume; more information is available at 639-1022.


The Discovery Center and Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton announced that they will combine forces for the Halloweekend event on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm at Ross Park. Tickets will be sold online at thediscoverycenter.org.


Oneonta officials announced that Downtown Oneonta trick or treating is taking place from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm on Saturday & a new "Trunk or Treat" event will be held at the Main Street Baptist Church. On Sunday, the Oneonta Rotary Club is organizing the Halloween parade 4:00 pm, it will line up on Elm Street starting at 3:00 pm.

The Albany County Sheriff's Office has filed charges against former Governor Andrew Cuomo for forcible touching, relating to an incident last December at the Executive Mansion in Albany. The Albany City Court issued a summons for Cuomo to appear in that court November 17th, investigations in other jurisdictions are continuing.


Otsego County Department of Health reported that the County remains at a HIGH level of community transmission, with 108 active cases, 28 new cases reported Thursday, with 7 Hospitalized. This Year, the Health Department is aware of 672 breakthrough cases of COVID in fully vaccinated individuals, which corresponds to 2% of the fully vaccinated population. There have been 3,185 cases in unvaccinated individuals, which corresponds to 15% of the unvaccinated population. An unvaccinated person is 7.5 times more likely to contract COVID-19, and 10 times more likely to be hospitalized & they are more likely to suffer more severe illness & death. Governor Kathy Hochul today signed a package of legislation that prohibits the sale of ghost guns, prohibits the possession of unfinished frames or receivers by anyone other than a licensed gunsmith or dealer in firearms and requires gunsmiths and dealers in firearms to register firearms in their possession. Another bill adds firearms designed to resemble toys to the definition of a 'disguised gun.'

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Public Health and Health Planning Council passed an emergency regulation and the Health Commissioner issued a determination requiring all teachers, administrators and other school employees to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing unless they show proof of vaccination, with either a CDC vaccine card or the Excelsior Pass.   The Governor also announced that the State Department of Health has finalized and released official guidance for classroom instruction regarding Facemasks, which closely echoes the CDC guidance which districts were advised to follow. The operator of Prestige Limousine, 31 year old Nauman Hussain, has pleaded guilty to 20 counts of negligent homicide in connection with the fatal Limo crash in Schoharie in 2018.   Hussain will be placed on interim probation for 2 years, will serve 1,000 hours of community service, he will not serve jail time & he was ordered to pay an undisclosed amount of money in restitution to the families of the deceased.  The October 6th, 2018, crash killed 18 people in the limo including the driver, plus 2 pedestrian in the parking lot of the Apple Barrel Convenience store at State Routes 30 and 30A in Schoharie.

Delaware County Public Health reported 63 new cases of COVID 19 in the last week, with 84 active cases, 6 Hospitalized and 122 quarantined.  Delaware County has had 2742 total cases, with 2606 recoveries & 52 deaths during the pandemic.


Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation extending virtual access to public meetings under the State's Open Meetings Law, which allows New Yorkers to virtually participate in local government meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, as long as the public has the ability to view or listen to the meeting and as long as the meeting is recorded and later transcribed. This change will reduce the need for congregation at public meetings while the Delta variant is prevalent, while ensuring public business can continue.

NYSEG crews continue to work to try to restore power to thousands of customers in the Southern Tier, following last nights storms that knocked down trees & power lines. Over 10,000 were without power in Broome County this afternoon, about 190 were without power in Delaware County, over 100 in Chenango County had power outages this afternoon, power has been fully restored in Otsego County.


State Police in Troop C are continuing with their crackdown on drunk & drugged drivers throughout the region. Troopers removed 46 impaired drivers from local roadways in the month of June, Troop C encompasses Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.


The annual NBT Bank Summer Concert Series begins Tonight at 7:00 PM. Blues musician Ana Popovic & her band will perform tonight, Tonight's show has been moved to the Norwich High School auditorium, due to rain in the forecast.


19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado has secured federal funding for road projects in Otsego and Schoharie Counties through the recently passed “INVEST in America Act”. Some of the new funding will go for a Roundabout at the intersection of Main Street, Maple Street & the Lettis Highway in Downtown Oneonta, with 3.2 million dollars in federal funding available, the bill has passed in the House of Representatives, but still requires passage in the US Senate.

State Police announced that following a multi-agency investigation spanning two years, 78 people involved in 2 Central New York drug rings have been indicted on more than 355 criminal charges. Attorney General Letitia James announced the indictment in Syracuse Wednesday, she said that more than $2 million in drugs, including cocaine & heroin mixed with fentanyl, plus 15 guns and $490,000 in cash were seized. The investigation was a join effort by the AG’s Organized Crime Task Force, the drug task forces in Oneida and Madison counties, and more than a dozen other agencies.


The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations of Delaware County businesses in varying categories for its Annual Awards Ceremony in October. Governor Cuomo held a press briefing regarding the COVID 19 pandemic & he addressed the decreasing number of people getting one of the available vaccines, he added another incentive for New Yorkers to get a vaccine:

The State parks 2 day free passes offered through May 31st will be good through the end of this September, so far, 63.7% of adult New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 54.9% have completed their vaccine series.


Norwich City Police arrested 38 year old Jason Beardsley of Norwich for 3rd & 5th degree arson, for allegedly setting a fire at 57 Cortland Street in Norwich on May 4th.  Beardsley will face court action at a later date.


Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a motorcycle crash in the town of Colesville early Friday Morning.   56-year-old Todd Blakeslee of Port Crane was pronounced dead at the scene, Investigators determined the motorcycle had been traveling north on Tunnel Road when Blakeslee’s motorcycle went off the roadway and struck a tree.  Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Delaware County Public Health nurses will be offering curbside single dose J&J vaccinations in front of the Public Health office at 99 Main St, Delhi, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM every Wednesday beginning May 26, during the Delhi Farmer’s Market.  All individuals 18 years of age and older that reside in the United States are eligible to be vaccinated, more information is available at 832-5200.


Chenango County Department of Public Works announced work starts today on County Road 17, between State Route 206 and State Route 41 in the Towns of Bainbridge and Afton.  The procedure should take 3 days to complete and weather permitting.   The traveling public is asked to find alternate routes if possible.  Local traffic shall be allowed to and from their homes.  More information is available by calling 337-1710.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an Ohio man for Criminal Possession of a Weapon and numerous other charges after being stopped on I-88 in the Town of Oneonta on May 8th for erratic operation of a motor vehicle.  51 year old Scott Travis was charged with Criminal Possession Weapon Firearm/Handgun, Driving while Intoxicated, Refusal to take Breath Test, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and speeding among other charges, Travis was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility following arraignment.
