Town of Sidney Board member Kevin Greene and Engineer Darius Palmer are exploring a plan to possibly turn part of the former Acco complex into an aviation college. A meeting was held Friday with local lawmakers, Economic Development experts & SUNY Delhi representatives to see if these plans could come to fruition, according to Kevin Greene:

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open announced that Kelsea Ballerini will be performing at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott on Friday, June 26th next year. Ballerini has enjoyed several hits in her young career and in February she debuted as a coach on the 27th season of The Voice. The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open runs from June 22 to June 28. Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon found along State Highway 80 between Sherburne and Columbus was tested by the Wadsworth Laboratories, and was found to have rabies. Residents and visitors in the area are advised to not pick up or handle any stray or wild animal, If your pet or livestock is behaving strangely contact your veterinarian immediately. The Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Restore Justice, which resulted in the rescue of 115 children and the arrests of 205 offenders in the nationwide crackdown. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of five days by all 55 FBI field offices. Locally, Jerry Butler of Walton was charged, he is accused of using a social messaging application to request and receive sexually explicit content from a minor, he is believed to be involved in the "764" network, whose members seek to corrupt and exploit vulnerable populations, including minors, He faces at least 15 years in prison. The Department urges the public to report suspected exploitation of a child through their tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI, at tips.fbi.gov, or by calling your local FBI field office.

SUNY Oneonta & the Sidney Central School District have set up a teacher pipeline initiative to bring SUNY Education students into the Sidney School District, which could lead to a teaching position in Sidney for the SUNY graduates, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock explains:

Bullock said that the program started last fall and doubled in size from 22 students in the fall to 22 students on campus and 19 working at the Pre-K off campus program at the Cullman Center this spring. Bullock said that there has been a teacher shortage and this program may help alleviate that issue in Sidney.

The Village of Delhi Police Department announced that
41-year-old Jessica Ambrose of Sidney was served a criminal summons directing
her to appear in Delhi Town Court to answer complaints of Attempted Welfare
Fraud, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Offering a False
Instrument for Filing. The charges against Ambrose stem from complaints filed
by fraud investigators at the Delaware County Department of Social Services.
Ambrose will face court action shortly.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint of a red motorcycle on State Highway 28, in the village of Delhi, traveling at a high rate of speed. A responding Deputy was unable to safely pursue the motorcycle due to its speed. Deputies located and identified the operator of the motorcycle as 29 year old Kyle Vandewerker of Oneonta, who was clocked at 109 miles per hour. Vandewerker was issued Traffic Tickets for reckless driving, speeding, and speed not reasonable and prudent and was released to appear in the Town of Delhi Court to answer the charges on a later date.

Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.

A SUNY Delhi freshman from Wappingers Falls was found dead in a wooded area near the campus Tuesday. The unidentified student was found unresponsive by friends, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's office. No foul Play is suspected; a memorial service for the student is planned on September 25th in Hopewell Junction.

In an effort to promote economic growth, community leaders in Delaware County are proposing a new project at SUNY Delhi to create more business opportunities by recycling waste water. The project would take waste water from the Delhi Waste Water Treatment facility and recycle it through an irrigation system on campus golf course. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand joined campus and community leaders earlier this week in support of the project. Leaders hope Gillibrand will go to bat for them, as about half of the funding for the $2 million plan is still needed and the project is eligible for federal grants. Construction is anticipated to begin next spring.
