Town of Sidney Board member Kevin Greene and Engineer Darius Palmer are exploring a plan to possibly turn part of the former Acco complex into an aviation college. A meeting was held Friday with local lawmakers, Economic Development experts & SUNY Delhi representatives to see if these plans could come to fruition, according to Kevin Greene:

Greene said that Palmer approached him with this idea after returning to Sidney after College, which called for aviation industry classes & training at the former Acco Building, which is right next to the Sidney Airport.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open announced that Kelsea Ballerini will be performing at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott on Friday, June 26th next year. Ballerini has enjoyed several hits in her young career and in February she debuted as a coach on the 27th season of The Voice. The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open runs from June 22 to June 28. Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon found along State Highway 80 between Sherburne and Columbus was tested by the Wadsworth Laboratories, and was found to have rabies. Residents and visitors in the area are advised to not pick up or handle any stray or wild animal, If your pet or livestock is behaving strangely contact your veterinarian immediately. The Department of Justice announced the results of Operation Restore Justice, which resulted in the rescue of 115 children and the arrests of 205 offenders in the nationwide crackdown. The coordinated effort was executed over the course of five days by all 55 FBI field offices. Locally, Jerry Butler of Walton was charged, he is accused of using a social messaging application to request and receive sexually explicit content from a minor, he is believed to be involved in the "764" network, whose members seek to corrupt and exploit vulnerable populations, including minors, He faces at least 15 years in prison. The Department urges the public to report suspected exploitation of a child through their tip-line at 1-800-CALL-FBI, at tips.fbi.gov, or by calling your local FBI field office.

The Chenango County Historical Society & the Chenango County Historian’s Office are collaborating on “An America250 Conversation.” and they will be seeking public input on how the County should celebrate America's 250th anniversary next year, Society Executive Director Jessica Moquin explains:

The Norwich Police Department reminds area residents that they will be hosting a Citizens Police Academy in October. WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull has a fall golf tournament coming up this weekend in Morris to support The Nate Lull Scholarship, Lull said he wasn't planning on another Tournament, but the chance to add to the scholarship fund made it an easy decision to have it:

SUNY Oneonta & the Sidney Central School District have set up a teacher pipeline initiative to bring SUNY Education students into the Sidney School District, which could lead to a teaching position in Sidney for the SUNY graduates, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock explains:

Bullock said that the program started last fall and doubled in size from 22 students in the fall to 22 students on campus and 19 working at the Pre-K off campus program at the Cullman Center this spring. Bullock said that there has been a teacher shortage and this program may help alleviate that issue in Sidney.

The Delaware County Office for the Aging announced that there annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament will be held on Friday May 12th ant the Delhi College Golf Course. The event is the primary fundraiser for the office for the aging, registration is available by calling 607-832-5750.

Delaware County Public Health nurses will be offering curbside single dose J&J vaccinations in front of the Public Health office at 99 Main St, Delhi, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM every Wednesday beginning May 26, during the Delhi Farmer’s Market.  All individuals 18 years of age and older that reside in the United States are eligible to be vaccinated, more information is available at 832-5200.

The Village of Delhi Police Department announced that
41-year-old Jessica Ambrose of Sidney was served a criminal summons directing
her to appear in Delhi Town Court to answer complaints of Attempted Welfare
Fraud, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Offering a False
Instrument for Filing. The charges against Ambrose stem from complaints filed
by fraud investigators at the Delaware County Department of Social Services.
Ambrose will face court action shortly.

The 13th annual O’Connor
Hospital Invitational took place on September 18th at The College Golf Course
at Delhi, raising more than $40,000 to support hospital equipment and building
upgrades.  Numerous area businesses

The New York Mets Monday announced
the winners of the 2019 Sterling Awards, emblematic of the top minor league
performers in New York’s farm system. Three of the seven honorees spent at
least part of the season with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.  Mark Vientos was the Hitter of the Year; LHP
Kevin Smith was named Pitcher of the Year; Andrés Giménez was the Mets’
Defender of the Year; and Sam Haggerty was the system’s top baserunner. Haggerty
was a September call up to New York, he scored his first big league run September
6th against Philadelphia.

The annual Take Back the Night March will be held in Oneonta
this evening.  The march begins at the
SUNY Oneonta campus at 6:30PM and ends in downtown Oneonta, it will conclude
with a candlelight vigil and musical performance is scheduled at Kim Muller

The 17th annual 4-H Golf Tournament tees off on Friday, September 14th at the Delhi College Golf Course. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint of a red motorcycle on State Highway 28, in the village of Delhi, traveling at a high rate of speed. A responding Deputy was unable to safely pursue the motorcycle due to its speed. Deputies located and identified the operator of the motorcycle as 29 year old Kyle Vandewerker of Oneonta, who was clocked at 109 miles per hour. Vandewerker was issued Traffic Tickets for reckless driving, speeding, and speed not reasonable and prudent and was released to appear in the Town of Delhi Court to answer the charges on a later date.

Otsego County Conservation Association, The City of Oneonta, and the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership are combining to hold an Invasive Species Teach-In Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the small pavilion in Wilber Park, in Oneonta. The Annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament at the SUNY Delhi Golf Course raised almost $8,000 back on May 11th. The money raised will be used for a variety of programs helping the elderly in Delaware County.

Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.

All 7 Democratic Party Candidates in the race for the 19th Congressional District will participate in a debate Saturday at Delaware Academy in Delhi. The event will run from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, it is free & open to the public.

Graduates of SUNY Oneonta will walk the stage in 3 ceremonies on Saturday: the School of Social Science at 9:00 AM, the School of Arts and Humanities and School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at 1 PM and the School of Education and Human Ecology and School of Economics and Business at 4:00 PM. 22 year old Matthew Stafford of Sidney Center was arrested by Delaware County Sheriff's deputies for 2nd degree Assault following a fight April 1st at the Delaware County Jail. Stafford was returned to the County Jail pending further action from the Village of Delhi Court.

Governor Cuomo announced that the State Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved more than $62 million in grants, interest-free loans, and low-cost loans to support water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the state. Locally, the Village of Delhi will receive $2.3 million in Grants & loans for the development of a new well and treatment facility, the replacement of an old & undersized distribution main in the Village. The Village of Greene will get $7.7 million, in grants & loans to finance the costs associated with the planning, design and construction of measures to make the Village sewer system more resilient to future storms.

The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds area voters that the General Election is November 8th this year, & the Local Registration days will be held on Thursday, October 13th from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturday, October 15th, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Board of Elections Office in Delhi. Friday October 14th is the last day to postmark a registration form to vote in the November Election. The 10th annual O'Connor Hospital Golf Invitational, held on September 21st at the SUNY Delhi Golf Course, raised over $48,000 dollars this year. The Money raised will be used to benefit the Hospital's expansion of Primary care & the Hospital's annual fund.

A SUNY Delhi freshman from Wappingers Falls was found dead in a wooded area near the campus Tuesday. The unidentified student was found unresponsive by friends, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Delaware County Medical Examiner's office. No foul Play is suspected; a memorial service for the student is planned on September 25th in Hopewell Junction.

The Delaware county department of corrections will hold the 5th Annual Andrew Brown Memorial Golf Tournament tomorrow, at the Hardwood Hills Golf Course in Masonville. In an effort to promote economic growth, community leaders in Delaware County are proposing a new project at SUNY Delhi to create more business opportunities by recycling waste water. The project would take waste water from the Delhi Waste Water Treatment facility and recycle it through an irrigation system on campus golf course. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand joined campus and community leaders earlier this week in support of the project. Leaders hope Gillibrand will go to bat for them, as about half of the funding for the $2 million plan is still needed and the project is eligible for federal grants. Construction is anticipated to begin next spring.
