Broome County Sheriff's Fred Akshar held a press conference this afternoon into the deaths of 2 people at Village Manor Apartments on Gary Street in Windsor. Sheriff Akshar said that this was a murder & suicide, the deceased have been identified 53 year old Kent Johnson of Windsor and his former girlfriend, 47 year old Tess Savage of Binghamton. Investigators have determined that Savage went to Johnson's apartment, even though she had an order of protection against him, she died of strangulation, a few hours later, Johnson killed himself with a gun.
Norwich City Police Department responded to 90 East Main Street Monday afternoon following a complaint of Gunshots from a tenant at that location. Norwich Police Officers arrested Sean Frear for criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment & criminal mischief, Police stated that Frear was under the influence of methamphetamine when he discharged a 12-gauge shotgun into the apartment below him, he was arraigned & was being held on $5,000 cash bail pending future court action.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit arrested 34 year old Carnel McCarden of Johnson City, police stated that McCarden dove through a glass window at 57 Miriam Street Tuesday to elude police investigators. McCarden was armed with 2 handguns, he was injured by broken glass, police searched the residence They Seized crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. McCarden was charged with 3 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration, McCarden was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 28 year old Paris Belton of Patersonville pleaded guilty to DWI In Masonville Town Court. Belton was charged after crashing his vehicle on State Route 8 on March 5th, Sidney Police & State Police responded, Belton had his licensed revoked, was ordered to attend a drug & alcohol evaluation, & must comply with recommendations, Belton was also charged $900 in fees & fines, and he must install an interlock device on all of his vehicles.
Several Area Fire Departments were called to the scene of a structure fire on Mary Brown Road in the town of Laurens this morning At about 9:10 AM. Firefighters from Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, West Oneonta, Morris & Oneonta have responded, The fire was called in an occupant, who reported that all other occupants escaped without injuries. Firefighters were still at the scene early this afternoon, WCDO News will have more information as it becomes available.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 52 year old Robin Reese of Bainbridge pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Driving While Intoxicated, in the Village of Delhi on 2 separate occasions. Reese admitted that she had a previous DWI conviction within the prior 10 years, which resulted in these charges being felonies, she was sentenced to 2 separate terms of 5-year felony probation supervision, she was also sentenced to Adult Treatment Court, she must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and successfully comply with any treatment recommendations. Reese's license was revoked, and the Court imposed fines and surcharges in the amount of $4,140.00.

State police and local law enforcement will be stepping up patrols and targeting drug-impaired driving during an enforcement and prevention campaign on April 20, due to marijuana-oriented celebrations that take place annually on April 20. The State Police, Department of Motor Vehicles and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee remind motorists that driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, including cannabis, is not only dangerous, it is illegal in New York State.
Cornell Cooperative Extension sponsors the Walton Farmers’ Market and would like to expand the number of produce vendors this year. A Winter Storm is expected to hit the Southern Tier Region tonight into tomorrow morning, local Meteorologist Rich Townsend explains:

The National Weather Service posted a "WINTER STORM WARNING" in effect from 6:00 PM tonight through 7:00 PM Tuesday night.
Fresh off of the 1st anniversary of the new Emergency Room & Walk In Center at Chenango Memorial Hospital, came word that the Hospital would get 20 Million Dollars for future projects that had been planning, according to Melissa Stagnaro, who is the Executive Director of the Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation:

Stagnaro said that they will not have to kick off another fundraising campaign for the 2nd Phase of their projects, with the receiving of this Grant money at this time. Phase 2 is expected to take about 5 years to complete.
A free virtual job fair will be held March 8th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Businesses in 6 area counties are looking to fill positions, including in Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego Counties. The online Fair is sponsored by the Workforce Development Board, more information is available at working-solutions.org.
The Norwich Police Department and Norwich Fire Department announced on Friday that they responded to 3 overdoses within a 12 hour period. Norwich Police warn that Heroin possibly laced with Fentanyl was being circulated, information about programs available in the area can be accessed by calling (607) 334-1212.

Hancock & Deposit Firefighters responded early this Morning to a structure fire at 57 East Main Street in Hancock. The structure was full involved, WCDO News will have more details as they become available.
Bainbridge Firefighters responded to a fire at 9 East Main Street Sunday morning. Occupants escaped without injuries, Fire fighters from Sidney, Afton, Masonville, Unadilla, Guilford, & Mt Upton also responded, Bainbridge Fire Fighters have returned for rekindles yesterday & again this morning, the fire is believed to have started in a garage and spread to the nearby residence.
The Department of Agriculture and Markets has been awarded over $3.8 million from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to help New York seniors better access locally grown food. The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan Act, to modernize and expand the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program at farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs, more information is available at agriculture.ny.gov/farmersmarkets.
