The Norwich Business Improvement District announced today that Public art will be coming to Downtown Norwich. Development Chenango Corporation was awarded $600,000 for a Downtown small project grant fund, $350,000 was spent supporting property owners’ renovations. The remaining funds, along with donations from Friends of the Park and local foundations, have been allocated to public art for Downtown Norwich. Awarded artists will design and install five sculptures and one mural Downtown! The Norwich Public Art Initiative, a committee formed to steward the project, has launched a request for artist qualifications as the first phase of the project, final proposals will be selected by December 1, with anticipated installation of the art work in spring 2027.
State DEC announced several changes to deer hunting regulations to increase harvest of female deer and improve DEC’s ability to manage abundant deer populations. Under the new system, all hunters will receive a first Antlered Deer Tag which can be used during any season, except the September antlerless season. New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets has put new rules in place for bringing domestic animals into the State to stop the spread of the New World Screwworm after cases were found in Texas and New Mexico. The State is restricting the movement of livestock and pets from areas affected or suspected to be affected by the parasite, so far there have been no cases detected in New York. The new order requires extra veterinary testing, proof of good health, and preventative treatment for animals coming from impacted areas.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has elevated a recall of Alfredo sauce distributed in 41 states to its most serious classification after they say a supplier flagged an ingredient for possible Salmonella contamination. The Coffee Connexion Company of Tennessee voluntarily recalled the product on May 6 because it contains a dry milk powder ingredient that was recalled by the supplier due to potential Salmonella contamination. On June 4, the FDA designated the recall as a Class I event, the agency's highest risk category. The product was distributed in multiple states, including New York, The FDA's enforcement report does not indicate whether any illnesses have been reported in connection with the product.

Oneonta Police Department concluded their investigation into the report of a deceased female on the railroad tracks early Sunday. An employee of Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the deceased female, Officers from the Oneonta Police Department, State Police and Otsego County District Attorney’s Office & the Otsego County Coroner responded, Investigators learned a 61-year-old female from Pennsylvania became stranded in the Town of Oneonta Saturday, Her vehicle was towed to a garage and she was given a courtesy ride by the Tow Company to a local convenience store. Investigators later learned that the woman ha d history of mental distress. She was reported missing by family Saturday, about 10 hours later, video surveillance showed the woman walking on the railway, at about 3:49 am, moments later a train arrived & video depicts the female laying on the tracks at the time the train passes. The case is being ruled a suicide & the name of the deceased is not being released.
State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for February, The State's unemployment rate was 4.3% in February, locally, Chenango County had 4.6%, Delaware County 5.2% and Otsego had 5.4% unemployment in February.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 58 year old Frederick Clarkson of McDonough for Strangulation, Criminal Mischief, Assault and Menacing, following a Domestic Dispute. Clarkson is accused of causing physical injury, menaced the victim with a blunt object, strangled the victim and took the victim’s phone preventing them from calling 911. Clarkson fled the scene prior to Deputies arriving and was later located in the City of Norwich and was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on no bail.
State Police assisted the Susquehanna SPCA with securely removing several animals at properties located on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in the town of New Berlin, after information was developed that the owner of the properties was violating a court order by possessing animals. 3 cows, 1 sheep, 3 dogs and 15 cats were removed and transported to the Susquehanna SPCA. Almost a year ago, over two dozen animals were located deceased and over 100 neglected animals were removed from the same property, 4 people were charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors from the Agriculture and Markets Law, As a result of court proceedings, the owner of the property was not to own or possess any animals.
Village of Sidney announced that due to a tie on the voting last month for the Village Board of Trustees, a special election will beheld today to break the tie between Patricia Cristelli & Luther Higley, who each had 44 votes. 23 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Monday to 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Contempt. On May 17, 2024, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Walton for an ongoing domestic, where the caller & 1 other person claimed to have been assaulted by Mann, who violated an order of protection. Mann was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On July 1, 2024, while incarcerated, Mann assaulted & injured a fellow inmate, Mann was additionally charged with 2nd degree Assault. Mann faces sentencing on December 9th to 1 1/2 to 3 years in state prison for Criminal Contempt, and 1 year for Assault.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that 221 State and local government workers have been deployed to North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia to help with response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. Team members include staff from the National Guard, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Department of Transportation, DEC, State Police, Department of Agriculture and Markets, among many others. State Agencies are also gearing up deployment top Florida following the expected devastation from as Hurricane Milton heads towards Florida.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Richie Rodriguez of Bronx for Criminal Possession of Stimulant, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and a host of traffic tickets following an investigation after a traffic stop on State Highway 7 in the Town of Otego. Rodriguez was processed and held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment.
A man and a woman were arrested in an assault on former Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Friday Night in New York City. Paterson & Anthony Sliwa were treated for minor injuries, 2 adults, a 12 year old & a 13 year old were all charged with gang assault and assault.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed motorcycle without a license plate on I-81, a traffic Stop was initiated, the operator failed to comply onto Colesville Road to State Route 17, the motorcycle eventually had a mechanical failure and came to a stop. 29 year old Trae Salisbury of Binghamton had an unsecured dog on his lap throughout the pursuit, deputies secured the dog and placed Salisbury under arrest for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Carrying an Animal in a Cruel Manner & Numerous traffic violations. Salisbury was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court. The dog was transported back to its owner.

State Attorney General Letitia James announced that 2 conservative political operatives; Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, will have to pay $1.25 million under a settlement to New York. Wohl & Burkman orchestrated a robocall campaign to dissuade about 85,000 Black people from voting in the 2020 election, in Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois. The robocall told the victims that they could be subjected to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination if they voted by mail. Wohl and Burkman pleaded guilty to felony telecommunications fraud in Ohio, they were sued in New York by The National Coalition on Black Civil Participation, they also recruited a college student to falsely claim he was raped by then-Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 39 year old Majid Richardson of Binghamton was found guilty of 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, plus 3rd degree Robbery and 2 counts of Grand Larceny by a Jury in Broome County Court. On June 1, 2023, Richardson forcibly stole from a victim and then attempted to contact that victim multiple times from Broome County Jail after an order of protection was issued. Richardson is due back in court for sentencing on July 3, 2024, where he will be sentenced to State Prison.
The State Department of Agriculture & markets announced that 22 organizations will receive grants for food resiliency projects. The Unadilla Community Farm Education Center will receive over $44,000 dollars in grant money.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office arrested 26 year old Jonathan Stein of Delhi on an arrest warrant from Otsego County. Deputies assisted the Cooperstown Police Department in locating Stein who was wanted for Criminal Contempt, he was located Tuesday & was turned over to the Cooperstown Police Department to be arraigned at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment Court in Otsego County on the charges.

Governor Hochul announced $5 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making infrastructure upgrades. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 44 Narwood Street in Johnson City, they seized Fentanyl pills, Oxycodone Pills, digital scales and packaging materials, an illegally possessed and loaded handgun, 37 year old Donald Galloway and 21 year old Tyana Campbell were charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, they were processed and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is urging veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances during their service to apply for health benefits through the PACT Act:

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Kyle Buckley of Masonville on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Hamden Court. On October 23rd, Deputies received an arrest warrant for Buckley stemming from a previous charges of Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, and Improper Passing on the Right, Buckley was located Tuesday & Deputies arrested Buckley, he was held for the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court and later released to reappear at the Town Of Hamden Court at a later date.
The State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting at 5:30 pm. Tuesday, November 14, at the Oneonta High School, pertaining to a project to reconstruct the intersection of Maple Street & State Route 7 in the City of Oneonta. The project would replace an existing signalized intersection with a single-lane roundabout, plus new sidewalks, crosswalks and a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. 32 year-old Courtni Baker of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court today to charges relating to a February 15th accident, where Baker struck 14-year-old Anielle “AK” McEwan-Lomnicki as she was walking home from Sidney middle school. Delaware County Acting District Attorney Shawn Smith told WCDO news about the verdict:

Baker registered a .24 blood alcohol content, three times the legal limit at the time of her arrest, Smith said that Baker faces 4 to 12 years in prison at her sentencing on September 25th.
49-year-old Hasaan Coston of Binghamton was found guilty in Broome County Court on 3 felony drug possession charges related to two separate raids by members of Broome County's Special Investigations Unit Task Force. Officers executed the 1st search warrant on July 29, 2021, and recovered cocaine, crack cocaine, $1200 cash and drug paraphernalia, at the 2nd search on August 4, 2022, in Endicott, officers seized more cocaine, crack cocaine and $1260 cash, Coston could face over 25 years in jail upon sentencing later this year.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police and the Village of Delhi Police Department, responded May 14th to a report of a Physical Domestic in Progress in the Town of Meredith. 35-year-old James Twito of Meredith, allegedly engaged another person in a physical domestic dispute where he is accused of obstructing the breathing of the victim, he was charged with Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Mischief , Twito was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 in secured bond.
The New York Farm Bureau announced support today for Governor Hochul's request to the federal government to expedite work visas for migrants who have been properly processed and who want to work on farms in New York State. There is a lengthy tradition of migrant workers on New York State farms, Farm Bureau officials stated that the State Department of Agriculture and Markets along with Cornell's Agricultural Workforce Development program are working to rectify the situation, the latest action would just be a temporary one and Washington officials must act to come up with a permanent solution to all angles of the immigration issue.
The State Department of Health today issued updated advisories for the consumption of fish from waterbodies in the State. The most notable update this year is the release of a new Catskill Region advisory, which includes the Cannonsville & Pepacton reservoirs in Delaware County, The Advisory is for a “Sensitive population”, which includes people who may bear children and children under 15; the fish in question include rainbow, brook & brown trout. Otsego County Sheriff's Office aarested 28 year old Joseph Spataro of Otego following a welfare check investigation in the Town of Oneonta. Spataro was chargeedd with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, DWI, Unlicensed Operator, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a mtoro vehicle, Spataro is accused of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and in possession of drugs, he was issued an appearance ticket for the Oneonta Town Court on a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 48 year old Richard Sherman of Guilford following a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 51 in the Town of Morris. Sherman was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated , Speed not reasonable and prudent, Failure to Keep Right among other charges, Sherman will appear in Town of Morris Court on May 22, 2023 at 3:00pm.

Today, the Governor's Office sent state agencies to Assist Local governments IN Sullivan County following Saturday's Tornado in Callicoon Center and Roscoe. Affected residents can call the Disaster Hotline at 800- 339-1759 For Insurance-Related Questions. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.
Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

32-year-old Kyle Packer was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff's deputies following a domestic dispute in Edmeston. Packer allegedly choked a victim & several items were also damaged, he left the scene, but was later arrested on a separate outstanding warrant for allegedly trying to use a fake $100 bill to purchase items at a retail establishment. Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

The Department of Agriculture and Markets has been awarded over $3.8 million from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to help New York seniors better access locally grown food. 19 year old Payton Gendron of Conklin is expected to plead guilty Monday in Erie County Court, for fatally shooting 10 people & injuring 3 others, in a racist attack on a buffalo Tops Supermarket in a predominantly Black Neighborhood May 14th. Gendron was charged in federal and state courts with multiple counts of murder and hate crimes, he is being held pending the court appearances.
The Village of Sidney Police Department arrested 36 year old Thomas Wright of Oxford and 36 year old Troy Dibble of Oxford, on Burglary & Grand Larceny Charges, following an investigation of a burglary of a house on Patterson Street in Sidney. A car trailer, 2 ATV's & a number of Tools were taken from the property, it was located in the town of Oxford and the 2 men were arrested. Wright was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on $2000 bail to appear back in court at a later date, Dibble was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date. Sidney Police Department were assisted by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Police.
The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced that raw milk from the Nickol Dairy Farm in Otsego County was found to be contaminated with Listeria following an inspection. Department officials warned customers not to drink the unpasteurized raw milk, until more testing is complete. Customers who purchased milk from the farm should throw it away & are advised to contact the farm owners at 607-386-3951.

2 people have been reported deceased following a head on crash on the Vestal Parkway Monday night near Binghamton University. 1 person was pronounced dead at the scene and the 2nd passed away Tuesday at an area hospital, the investigation is ongoing, the names of the deceased have not been released.
The State officials are warning New Yorkers to kill the invasive spotted lanternfly, which were located on Staten Island 2 summers ago, they have migrated throughout New York City, Long Island and into the Hudson Valley. The Spotted Lanternfly feeds on 70 species of plants, including several important New York crops that are important to the state's agricultural economy. Anyone who sees a spotted lanternfly is asked to fill out a survey so the Department of Agriculture at survey123.arcgis.com.

State Police arrested 46 year old Justin Valk of Davenport, for 2nd degree Manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide. Troopers responded August 1st to a residence on Pine Cliff Circle in the town of Davenport for a medical event involving 47 year old Stephanie Valk of Davenport, she was transported to a local hospital, and died on August 3rd. Police accused Justin Valk of being awarde that Stephanie Valk was suffering from a medical event, inflicted additional physical harm, and failed to call for medical assistance, he was arrested and arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $30,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond. Legislation co-sponsored by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo of Endwell, is elevating care standards at animal shelters and animal rescue organizations in New York State. The new legislation will require shelters to pass state inspections, to be administered under the division of Agriculture and Markets. Violations could result in denial, revocation, suspension or refusal of license renewal as well as possible fines of between $100 and $1,000 per violation. The new standards take effect in 2025.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Town of Hamden last Tuesday for an equipment violation. 53 year-old Lisamichelle LaLonde, of Morris, was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended New York driver’s license, due to a previous insurance lapse. LaLonde was later issued traffic tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Unlicensed Operator, and Insufficient Brake Lamps. LaLonde is scheduled to appear before the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the charges.
As a result of low blood donor turnout in recent months, the Red Cross is heading into the holidays with its lowest blood supply in more than a decade at this time of year. Blood donations are desperately needed now to meet the needs of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. 44-year-old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit pleaded not guilty to a 9 count indictment in Broome County Court Wednesday, he is accused of shooting State Trooper Ryan Thorp last month.  2 of the counts in the indictment were for attempted murder, bail has been set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.  Mawhiney was arrested after troopers responded to the report of a domestic dispute in the Village of Deposit.

The State Health Department reported that the COVID Infection rate continues to increase, with just fewer than 82,000 tested Wednesday and 956 were positive, for a 1.17% positivity rate.  New York's rate, while still among the lowest in the country, has tripled in recent weeks, however hospitalizations were down to 340, ICU patients were down to 75 & those on ventilators were down to 34 & there 3 deaths from COVID Wednesday. The percentage of adult New Yorkers who have completed their vaccine dosage has increased to 67%.
The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in June increased by 9,800, or 0.1%, to over 7.4 Million people.  Prior to the pandemic, there were 8.2 Million New Yorkers in Private Sector jobs that number dropped to 6.9 Million last year.   New York's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased 1/10th to 7.7% in June.

NY State of Health and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets announced that Certified Enrollment Assistors will be on site at select farmers' markets statewide to educate New Yorkers about new and enhanced federal financial assistance that is now available to current enrollees and new enrollees. Delaware County Public Health reported 2 more COVID 19 related deaths in their weekly report Thursday, bringing their total to 51. Delaware County had 6 new positive cases with 8 active cases, 2 hospitalized & 14 quarantined, and they reported a total of 2425 cases since the pandemic began last year.
Otsego County Health Department reported that they had 61.3% of county residents 18+ have received at least 1 dose of the COVID vaccine and 50% have completed the vaccine series. legislation for the limousine industry. The package includes seatbelt
requirements, immobilization of defective limousines, increased penalties for

Overall growth in local sales tax collections statewide in
2019 was relatively strong, according to a report released today by State
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Collections across the state, totaling $18.3 billion,
grew by 4.7%% from the previous year.
Sales tax collections increased more rapidly during the second half of
2019 & 13 of the 17 cities that impose a sales tax experienced increases in
year-over-year collections in 2019, the City of Oneida had the strongest growth

Governor Cuomo announced an update on the status of testing
for the novel coronavirus in New York State. As of today, samples from 12 New
Yorkers have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for
testing. Of those, 11 have come back negative. One sample, from New York City,
is awaiting results from the federal Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. There are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in New York
State.  Additionally, today the Governor
announced New Yorkers can call a hotline at 1-888-364-3065 where Department of
Health experts will be available to answer questions regarding the Novel
Coronavirus.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23 year old
William Merrill of Delhi for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, in
violation of State Agriculture and Markets Law.  Merrill is accused of beating a dog December
of 2019 in the Town of Meredith.  In
accordance with the new bail reform laws, Merrill was released with an
appearance ticket where he will appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later
date.

Trooper Christopher Skinner served for 13 years with the state police,

Governor Cuomo proposes protecting New York consumers from
predatory and abusive debt collectors, by requiring debt collectors to be
licensed by the State Department of Financial Services, where they would have
to adhere to stringent standards of conduct and empower the State to examine
debt collectors and pull the license of bad services. The proposal will also
codify a FTC rule that prohibits confessions of judgment, which give lenders
the unfettered power to go into court, get a judgment from a clerk and empty
the consumer's bank account.
A bill from Assemblywoman Didi Barrett and State Senate
Agriculture Chair Jen Metzger to protect New York’s livestock industry from the
Asian long horned tick was signed into law by the Governor this week.  The new law directs the DEC Commissioner to
include the Asian long horned tick on the State’s invasive species list and on
the DEC’s comprehensive plan for invasive species management, and also directs
the Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets to develop and distribute to
farmers an informational pamphlet on Asian long horned tick treatment,
management, and prevention.  The tick was
first reported in the United States in 2017, the 1st new tick
species to enter the country in 50 years, and is currently found in 7 states
including New York.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 67 year old Thomas
Lima of Franklin for 2nd degree harassment plus 12 counts of
Criminal contempt.  It is alleged that
Lima engaged in a course of conduct which alarmed another person & violated
an Order of Protection. Lima was arraigned in the Delhi Town court and released
on his own recognizance; he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Franklin
Court at a later date.
State Officials announced a
$10.5 million settlement with NYSEG & Rochester Gas & Electric Corp.,
following the companies' failure to adequately prepare for and restore service
after storms in 2018 that left more than 300,000 homes and businesses without
power.   NYSEG acknowledges and admits to 18 violations
of its state-approved emergency response plans, and RG&E acknowledges and
admits 3 violations.  The money will be
used to provide customer benefits at the direction of the Public Service Commission.
NYSEG will hire and maintain 20
additional employees with storm restoration responsibilities.

Governor Cuomo announced a proposal to prohibit the
distribution and use of Styrofoam, single-use food containers. The proposal
also bans the sale of packaging materials known as packing peanuts.
Additionally, the bill would authorize the State Department of Environmental
Conservation to review and take action to limit or ban other packaging material
upon a finding of environmental impact. The ban would go into effect by January
1, 2022. The ban exempts prepackaged food sealed prior to receipt at a
restaurant or food service establishment, as well as packaging for uncooked or
raw meat, fish or eggs.
A City of Norwich resident was arrested by the Chenango
County Sheriff’s Office on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant.  Deputies arrested 33 year old Michael Bias of
Norwich as a Fugitive from Justice Warrant, after arresting him on other charges.
Bias was arraigned in the Chenango County Court and was remanded to the
Chenango County Jail, where he will be picked up by the Cumberland County
Sheriff’s Office at a later date.
A Village of Bainbridge resident was arrested by the
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Criminal contempt. 58 year old William
Armstrong was arrested after the Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that
Armstrong violated an order of protection. Armstrong was arraigned in the Town
of Bainbridge Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $250 cash
and $500 bond.

Governor Cuomo today announced the next steps for the $15
minimum wage phase-in will take effect December 31st, following a report by the
Division of the Budget that found the decline in New York's unemployment rate
to record lows indicates that recent minimum wage increases have been absorbed
with little to no impacts in every region.
The minimum wage will rise $15.00 an hour in New York City & to
$11.80 on December 31st for the upstate Counties.
Raymond Corporation of Greene contributed to more than 150
nonprofit and educational organizations, spanning a variety of causes and efforts
this year, with monetary contributions, forklift donations and voluntary
participation of Raymond associates’ time.
Raymond also opened its doors to the public for several community and

State Police are investigating a 1 vehicle crash on State
Route 7 near Harpursville, where the car struck a tree.  A passenger was killed and the name of the
driver or the driver's status has not yet been released.
Delaware County Sheriff’s department announced that
indictments were handed down by a Grand jury against 2 area women on drug
charges.  43-year-old Crystal Smith of
Endicott and 31-year-old Anna Kellam of Hancock were charged with criminal sale
of a controlled substance independently of each other, in Hancock.  Kellam was already being held in the Delaware
County Jail on an unrelated charge, she is accused of selling prescription
drugs illegally in Hancock on 3 occasions. Endicott Police arrested Smith last
week on a warrant for allegedly selling Suboxone in Hancock on two
occasions.  Kellam is being held on
$15,000 bail, Smith was being held in the Delaware County Jail without bail.

board 239 subcommittee approved a measure on the town of Guilford’s Renewable

Guilford town board meeting will begin at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the town hall,
where the board will review the SEQR environmental Application; they may act on
it, and possibly act on the Renewable Energy Law.  The Energy law proposal follows a proposal by
Calpine to erect up to 30 wind turbines in the town of Guilford.  A Group known as the Concerned Citizens of
Guilford opposes the plan and is questioning the legality of the process the
town is using with its renewable energy law.
The State Department of Agriculture & Markets announced
the presence of Listeria in raw milk collected from the Muddy River Dairy of
Otego.  Anyone who purchased raw milk

The City of Oneonta announced that their contractor will
begin a water main tie in at East End Ave starting at 7:00 AM Wednesday.  Affected streets include Main Street from

Chester Street, & Reynolds Street from Main to Chester.   The outages are expected to last a few
hours. The intersection of Main Street and East End Ave will be closed to traffic;

City Police in Norwich are investigating the vandalism of a
syringe drop box near the Eaton Center in downtown Norwich.  Police began the investigation following a
post of the broken dropbox with needles on the ground, on social media

State Police announced that the pedestrian struck by a car
on Friday evening near the Unadilla Valley Sports Center has died.  20 year old Jonathan Mayzak of South Carolina
succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in
Utica.  An autopsy will be performed at
the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office in the near future.  The investigation is continuing with the
State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and The Chenango County District
Attorney's Office will be consulted at the conclusion of the investigation as
to whether additional charges are warranted against the driver, 31 year old
Edward Burnett of Utica.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation which prohibits employment
discrimination based on religious attire, clothing or facial hair. The new law
amends the State Human Rights Law to make clear that employers cannot refuse to
hire, attain, promote, or take other discriminatory action against an
individual for wearing attire or facial hair in accordance with tenets of their
religion.   The legislation also requires
employers to reasonably accommodate an employee's religious practices.

State Police arrested 25 year old John Mehne of Sarasota
Florida last night following an accident on I-81, which led to a manhunt.  State Police, Broome County Sheriff's Office
and Binghamton Police Department responded to the area of Duell Road,
Colesville Road and Springer Road in the town of Kirkwood, Troopers accuse Mehne
of attempted to flee the scene of the initial accident by jumping onto a van
& then into the bed of a pick-up truck, he eventually fled on foot into a
wooded area.  Mehne is accused of threatening
1 person with an axe, stealing an ATV, killing a chicken & a dog and was
apprehended while hiding naked in a chicken coop.  State Police encourage residents in that area
to check their property and call the State Police at 775-1241 if anything appears
disturbed.  The investigation is ongoing
& a multitude of charges are pending.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 26 year old
Uysef Guzman of Pennsylvania and 34 year old Heather Prince of Norwich on drug
charges following a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich Tuesday.   Deputies seized over 220 packets of heroin,
that was possibly mixed with fentanyl as well as over $1,900 in cash, the
incident is still under investigation and more arrests are expected.  Both defendants were arraigned in the City of
Norwich Court and were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on
$20,000 cash each. Both are to appear in the Town of Norwich Court on a later
date.
The state’s Medicaid program paid more than $60,000 for
sexual and erectile dysfunction drugs and treatments for 47 sex offenders,
according to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.  DiNapoli recommended that the Department of
Health provide Managed Care Organization’s with detailed lists of all ED drugs,
procedures, and supplies that are excluded or have limited Medicaid coverage;
and take corrective actions to ensure compliance with laws, policies, and
procedures; and Improve Department of Health’s computer system to apply sex
offender status in the processing of claims.
New York would be the first state in the U.S. to ban the
declawing of cats under legislation approved by lawmakers this session.  The bill would subject veterinarians to
$1,000 fines for performing the operation; it heads to the desk of Governor
Cuomo for approval.

State Police issued 13,693 tickets for impaired driving over
Memorial Day weekend, as part of the STOP-DWI traffic enforcement period. The
initiative targeted impaired and reckless drivers from Friday, May 24 and
through Monday, May 27.   State Troopers
arrested 225 people for DWI and investigated 134 crashes, which resulted in 190
injuries and 4 fatalities.
Governor Cuomo today announced that the 22nd Annual Cyber
Security Conference continues today in Albany, bringing over 1,300 cyber
security professionals from state and local government and the private sector
to discuss emerging developments in the industry and best practices designed to
improve the security of New York State. The conference is being held at the
Empire State Plaza again today, the annual Conference is hosted by the State

The State Senate passed State Senator Jen Metzger's bill to
aid dairy farmers in complying with regulations to address water that can
collect in waste tires used by farmers use to hold down tarps over silage and
feed, which the DEC has determined creates a risk of mosquito breeding
grounds.  The DEC regulations require
cutting waste tires in half, drilling holes in them, or disposing of them and
finding new methods of covering silage, Metzger's bill is sponsored in the
Assembly by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, it instructs the Commissioner of
Agriculture and Markets and the Commissioner of Environmental Conservation to
develop a plan to remove used tires from farms at no cost to the farmers.

Wegner said that 1 Juul packet contains as much nicotine as
an entire pack of tobacco cigarettes and her group is continuing to try to
educate local residents not to be tricked into nicotine use & addiction.
An amended marijuana legalization bill was introduced on
Friday by lawmakers in Albany, which more closely echoes what Governor Cuomo
wanted in the bill earlier this year.
The bill includes the Office of Cannabis Management to regulate
commercial and medical marijuana; it would also expunge the records of those
who have committed marijuana-based offenses in the past.   Opponents to Marijuana legalization site
potential issues with traffic safety and increased links to mental illnesses
such as Schizophrenia & violence.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies charged 40-year-old
Jeffrey Bosket of Tompkins with 2 counts of harboring a dangerous dog in
violation of Agriculture and Markets Law. The charge follows an investigation
where an individual was allegedly bitten by 2 dogs owned by Bosket in the Town
of Tompkins. Bosket was issued tickets and was scheduled to appear before the
Town of Tompkins Court at a later date to answer for the charges.
State Senator Fred Akshar released a new Community Voice
Survey on a proposal to end religious and any other non-medical exemptions for
vaccination for children attending school in New York State.  All 50 states require that students be vaccinated
for diseases like measles, mumps, chicken pox and polio among many others, all
states allow exemptions for medical reasons, but 47 (including New York) allow
exemptions for religious reasons.   The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that measles was eradicated
in 2000; however 940 measles cases were reported nationwide this year, with
more than half of those reported in New York City & Rockland County.   Akshar is asking his constituents to weigh
in on Senate bill S.2994 which would repeal all non-medical exemptions from vaccination
requirements for children; the survey is available at Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.
New York State will not be
funding a housing development with 64 units in Oneonta' 6th Ward.  The RSS development announced their plans
last year, with residents speaking out about the plans to have some people in
the development recovering from substance abuse.  Governor Cuomo recently announced that 6
organizations in The Southern Tier would receive $21.3 million in tax credits
and low-interest loans from the State Homes & Community Renewal’s 2018
Unified Funding applications; the Oneonta RSS project was not included.

Attorney General Letitia James announced a settlement with
Oneonta Elks, over their wrongful use of over $480,000 charitable assets from
the estate of a benefactor whose last will and testament directed that the
funds be used to help the needs of children, people with disabilities, and the

to repay those funds, after the investigation determined that the Oneonta Elks
repeatedly appropriated and expended almost $170,000 to pay for capital
improvements to its lodge building and property, as well as covering general

Measles Outbreaks in New York State continue to drive up the
number of U.S. measles cases, According to the Centers for Disease Control
& Prevention today.  The numbers are
the highest in 25 years, with 68 of the 71 national cases reported last week,
were in New York State.  So far this
year, there have been 626 conformed Measles cases nationwide, there 963 cases
in for all of 1994.
The state Department of Public Service announced a proposed
agreement with Charter-Spectrum that would allow the company to remain in
business in New York State.    Charter
would expand broadband service to 145,000 businesses and residences in upstate
New York by Sept. 30, 2021; they would provide $12 million for broadband
expansion, primarily for unserved and underserved properties.   A 60-day public comment period would follow;
any agreement must be approved by the Public Service Commission.
The City of Oneonta announced that starting at 9:00 PM Tonight;
Main Street will be closed to all traffic, as crews will be installing a new
water service at 221 Main Street.  Main
Street will be closed from Chestnut Street to Elm Street; pavement restoration
is expected to occur Tuesday night.
The trial for 45 year old Wilfredo Pica-Torres has been
scheduled for August 26th in Broome County Court.  Pica-Torres is accused of killing 61-year-old
Victor Banayan on February 9th at 109 Walnut Street in Binghamton, he recently
pleaded not guilty to an indictment where he was charged with 2nd degree
murder, 1st & 2nd degree arson, & attempted 2nd degree murder, and he
is being held in the Broome County jail.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten
Gillibrand announced over $172 million dollars in federal funding from the
Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development
Block Grant & in the HOME Investment Partnership Program.   Communities will use the funding to address

State Police arrested 33 year old Amanda Gus of Hartwick for
3rd degree Grand Larceny, after Troopers received a complaint that money was
missing from an ATM and logs were unaccounted for from a period of time
starting in February and ending in April.
Gus is accused of failing to fill the ATM while working at the Mirabito
store on State Highway 205 in Hartwick, more than $1000 was unaccounted
for.   Gus was released on her own
recognizance.
State Police arrested 52 year old Antonio Fiorino of
Worcester for 2 counts the Agriculture and Markets Law of Overdriving,
Torturing and Injuring Animals.    A trooper was dispatched to Worcester where
the complainant believed Fiorino poisoned her cats, the investigation revealed
that the cats were poisoned with antifreeze which led to their death.   Fiorino was arraigned in Worcester Town
Court where he posted $500 cash bail.
His return court date is May 7, 2019.
The State’s financial health ended the fiscal year on a
`Good Note, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.  Figures released on Friday showed state revenue
dropped by $3.7 billion, or by 4.7%, during the fiscal year that ended March
31, yet March revenues surpassed projections by more than $800 million.  The state ended the fiscal year with $7.2
billion in the bank, higher than projections but less than last year.  DiNapoli says the declines in revenue and the
possibility of federal funding cuts show its “essential” that state leaders
build up the state’s reserves to prepare for the next economic downturn.

Employment among New York’s small businesses has increased
slightly faster than the national pace, according to a report released today by
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report from the U.S. Census Bureau,
examined the 5-year trend through 2016, where small business employment rose by
9.2% in New York while increasing 8.9% across the country. Small Businesses
provided more than 4.1 million jobs in the state, which is about half of all
private sector jobs. Small businesses provided more than $212 billion in
payroll, nearly 40 percent of the total private sector payroll in the state.
State DOT officials announced that 45 year old Dennis Howe
of Candor has died, Howe was the driver of a DOT Vehicle that was hit by 37
year old Lawrence Faucett who failed to move over on March 18th on I-86 in the
town of Nichols in Tioga County.  The
investigation is ongoing, and Faucett may face charges.
State Attorney General Letitia James today announced that
Spectrum Cable has started to issue credits to consumers as required by their
settlement agreement.  Under the terms of
the settlement, Charter is required to issue monetary relief to qualified
subscribers and offer some  video
streaming services at no charge.  In all,
qualified subscribers will receive $62.5 million in bill credits. Subscribers
do not have to fill out any paperwork to obtain the credit, but must contact
Spectrum to receive the streaming services by May 30th at  1-833-422-8795 for further information.
The Village of Sidney Board will hold a special Meeting
Thursday Evening, regarding the sole sourcing of Village garbage pickup.  The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM
in the board room at 21 Liberty Street, Civic Center.  This meeting will be the 1st of 2 on this
subject, as they board discusses the possibility of having 1 hauler for all

State Police arrested 27 year old Bradly Falkenmeyer of
Coventry for Menacing and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, after Troopers were
dispatched to dispute that began over a dog going on the neighbor’s
property.   Falkenmeyer allegedly
displayed a shotgun and threatened to shoot the dog and the complainant.  Falkenmeyer was also on parole which would
not allow him to be in possession of any firearms.  Falkenmeyer was arrested and arraigned in the
town of Coventry Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail without bail.
State Police arrested 41 year old Thomas Guinn of Chelsea,
Oklahoma for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a reportable B.A.C of
.20%. A trooper was dispatched to a complaint of a vehicle traveling
erratically on I-88, nearly striking several vehicles. Troopers located the
vehicle stuck in the mud on State Route 357 in the town of Sidney, Guinn was
arraigned in the town of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware
County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. His next court date is March
28, 2019.
State Police arrested 30 year old Corey Burns of Bainbridge
for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Trespass, after a
trooper was dispatched to a complaint that a male entered a home on State
Highway 41 in the town of Coventry and was not known to the residents of the
home. The property owner was able to provide a description of Burns and the
vehicle he was operating. Burns was located, arrested & was arraigned in
the town of Afton Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on
$5,000 cash bail or $15,000 property bond.
Members of Troop "C" conducted an Underage Drinker
Initiative Friday, March 16, 2019. 13 retail stores in Chenango and Otsego
Counties were checked for potential sales to a minor. All 13 were found to be
in compliance and no alcohol was sold to minors during the detail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 69 year old Robert Walker of Davenport for criminal impersonation unauthorized use of emergency lights, unauthorized lights, failure to keep right, speed unreasonable and prudent and following too closely & official misconduct. Walker is accused of using a Volunteer Fire Department emergency blue light on his personal vehicle to conducted a traffic stop on another vehicle in the Town of Davenport without official authority to do so. Walker was issued appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.
During National School Bus Safety Week, the State DMV and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee are reminding motorists to stop and wait whenever they encounter a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and “stop” sign extended. Drivers who pass a stopped school bus illegally could be ticketed and face fines and other penalties. Motorists should also watch for students as they walk or bike to school and always follow the posted speed limits. Drivers convicted of passing a stopped school bus face a fine of $250 to $400, five points on their driver license, and up to 30 days jail time for a first violation. Three violations in three years can result in a maximum fine of $1,000, five points, a six-month license revocation, registration revocation, and up to six months jail time.
The Oneonta Department of Public Service will be flushing water mains in the low service area starting 9:00 AM to 4:00 pm Friday. Flushing is expected to go into the better part of next week, in the Chestnut Street Area & Winnie Hill Road neighborhood. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a 1 car property damage automobile accident in the Town of Harpersfield. 62 year old Ralph Leonard of Hobart is accused of leaving the scene before officers arrived, Deputies traveled to Leonard’s residence, where a marijuana growing operation was observed. Leonard was charged with Criminal possession of marijuana, Unlawfully Growing Cannabis, f Criminal possession of a controlled substance, Obstructing governmental administration & Aggravated unlicensed operation, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $4,000 cash bail or $8,000 bond.
Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 21 year old Jared Talbot of Oneonta after an animal cruelty investigation involving pigs in the Town of Laurens. Talbot is accused of overriding torturing or injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance in violation of the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law. Talbot will appear in the Town of Laurens Court on a later date.
Former New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos was sentenced on Wednesday to four years and three months in prison on federal corruption charges, including soliciting bribes and defrauding the public. Prosecutors accused the elder Skelos of using his position to pressure three companies to provide his son with consulting work, a “no-show” job and a $20,000 payment.
The State Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction issued a new report describing steps currently being taken to address the state's opioid crisis. 23-year-old Kevin Perry of Laurens pleaded guilty to 2 counts of 2nd degree murder in Otsego County court Friday. Perry pleaded guilty to killing his parents in their town of Laurens home in early December of last year. Perry will face sentencing on October 19th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & the Downsville Fire Department and Emergency Squad responded to a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident Sunday Morning on County Highway 7; The Cat Hollow Road in the Town of Colchester. Upon arrival, first responders found the involved vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Following fire suppression, responders found that the vehicle’s driver was deceased, there were no other occupants. Investigators determined that 41 year old Anthony Driskell of Unadilla, lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton Friday Night. 21 year old Aaron Tubbs of Treadwell was operating a bicycle on State Hwy 10, when he was fatally struck by a vehicle operated by 66 year old Michelle Mason of Hamden. Mason and her passenger were uninjured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Governor Cuomo today announced that New York State Police are stepping up patrols to crack down on dangerous drivers as students return to school. The Governor urged motorists to watch for students as they walk or bike to school, follow posted speed limits, and stop and wait whenever a school bus is stopped with its red lights flashing and its "stop" sign extended. This is the latest step in a series of safety measures the Governor has recently taken to get the school year off to a safe start.In addition to stepping up enforcement efforts, the State Police will also be partnering with AAA for their "School's Open - Drive Carefully" campaign.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office announced that staff will attend community events around the state in September to help residents search for unclaimed funds. DiNapoli oversees more than 39 million unclaimed funds accounts valued at $15.5 billion until the money can be returned to its rightful owners. Unclaimed funds come from old bank accounts, utility deposits, uncashed checks, insurance claims, stocks and other sources that have been dormant for a number of years. The principle agreement announced last week with Mexico is a step in the right direction, but an agreement with Canada needs to be completed for an effective news NAFTA deal.
Governor Cuomo announced the release of the formal application for state matched funds through his County-Wide Shared Services Initiative. The state will match dollar-for-dollar the actual savings achieved by a county or local government pursuant to an adopted shared services plan. A total of $225 million has been appropriated for these matches to consolidate local services and create efficiencies within county borders to reduce the burden on taxpayers. Governor Cuomo announced that $14.7 million has been awarded to implement water quality protection projects on 43 farms across the state. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25 year old Deontre Samuels of Lebanon, Illinois, Thursday for Criminal Mischief and Harassment, following the report of a Domestic incident at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. It is alleged that Samuels engaged his female partner in a physical domestic dispute and also caused damage to the property of the victim. Local sales tax collections across New York grew 6% in the first 6 months of 2018, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Tax collections totaled $8.5 billion compared to $8 billion during the same period last year. The report revealed that the highest regional increases in the state were in the Southern Tier, the Mohawk Valley& the Mid-Hudson all at 5.8%, The Capital District had 5.6% growth & Long Island at 5.5%.
Governor Cuomo today announced that the New York State Grown & Certified program has made $250,000 available to eligible, existing and new Grown & Certified food and beverage producers and processors; an additional $225,000 in funding is available for retailers to develop a long term, in-store consumer marketing campaign that promotes Grown & Certified products. The New Jersey Devils have named Mark Dennehy as the Head Coach of the Binghamton Devils today. Norwich City Police are reminding area residents to lock up their vehicles, following a series of vehicle break-ins. Police reported that 15 vehicles have been broken into in the last 3 days alone. Police also suggest bringing valuables inside, and not leaving them in plain view in the vehicle.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was alerted of an alleged abduction last night at about 9:30 PM in Smithville Flats. This morning, the victim, 20 year old Katelyn Nielsen of Smithville Flats, the suspect 46 year old Calvin Burlingame of Newark Valley & his vehicle were all located in Broome County. Deputies reported that Nielsen was unharmed, the investigation is continuing, anyone with information can call 337-1863.
State Police have made an additional arrest in regards to the missing juvenile; Amanda Putorti of Richmondville. 37 year old Nicole Briggs of Preston Hollow was charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Briggs was arrested along with John Winnie and Jeremy Schaefer in relation to this case; State Police were assisted by several area law enforcement agencies. Briggs, Schaefer & Winnie were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Rensselaerville Court at a later date. The investigation is still ongoing.
The City of Oneonta Airport Commission will hold 3 special meetings over the next 2 weeks in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall. 59 year old Herbert Zindle of The Town Of Maryland was found guilty by an Otsego County Jury Tuesday for 9 counts of 2nd degree criminal sexual act. The jury reached their decision in less than 30 minutes, Zindle was convicted of performing sexual acts with a boy under the age of 15 on 9 occasions, he faces sentencing on August 27th in Otsego County Court.
Governor Cuomo has a large lead against his challengers, according to the latest Quinnipiac Poll. Cuomo topped Democratic challenger Cynthia Nixon by 59 to 23% among registered Democratics, against Republican candidate Marc Molinaro, Cuomo had a 43 to 23% lead.
State Police arrested 27 year old Dillion Beadle of Norwich for Driving While Intoxicated after he was involved in a two car crash. Troopers were dispatched to a crash on State Highway 12 in Norwich. No serious injuries were reported. Beadle was turned over to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in the town of Norwich Court on August 2nd.
The New York State Departments of Health and Agriculture & Markets cautioned New York residents, visitors and farmers about the continued importance of taking measures to protect against ticks, as a new tick species, the "longhorned tick," was recently discovered in Westchester County. The State Department of Health reported that the longhorned tick has transmitted disease to humans in other parts of the world, and may pose a threat to livestock. The Department of Agriculture and Markets encourages livestock owners and veterinarians to also be vigilant for unusually heavy tick infestations, if longhorned ticks are suspected, farmers should consult with their veterinarians and contact the Department at 518-457-3502.

Former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos on Tuesday was found guilty of fraud and corruption in a retrial stemming from his efforts to help his son receive a no-show job. His son, Adam Skelos, was also found guilty of eight charges as well. It was the second time Dean and Adam Skelos were found guilty of the charges in a federal courthouse. The faced a retrial this year after their 2016 convictions were tossed following the Supreme Court’s reinterpretation of the definition of theft of honest services.

Nault was operating a vehicle on State Route 12 which was not insured. After an investigation, troopers located marijuana, heroin, LSD, and several different types of illegal fireworks. Nault and Jenks were released on appearance tickets in the town of Chenango Court on July 24th.
On Friday evening, July 6, 2018, members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, State Police, including K-9 units, and the Village of Walton Police Department conducted an Enhanced Traffic Safety Enforcement Campaign in the Village of Walton and surrounding area towns. This campaign resulted in a total of 57 traffic summonses being issued. The collaborative detail resulted in the following arrests: 4 Arrests for Driving While Intoxicated; 2 Arrests for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; 1 Arrest for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; 4 Arrests for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; 1 Arrest for Reckless Driving & 1Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer.

State Senator Fred Akshar has come under fire for his relationship with Jessica Williams, who has worked for Akshar, his predecessor Tom Libous & is now working for the state Senate Republicans staff and she has received large percentage pay increases since 2011. Akshar spokesman Emmanuel Priest told WCDO News that Williams' is involved with Senator Akshar, and the increasing salary was commensurate with the work she has been tasked with doing. Akshar has been a State Senator since 2015, when he won a special election to fill Libous's seat.
State Police arrested 45 year old Brett Brooks of Sidney, Wednesday, for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were dispatched to a 2 car Accident on State Highway 7 near Valley View Drive in Unadilla. After an investigation, Brooks was arrested and arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court, he was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to reappear on August 13th.
Governor Cuomo today announced $30 million is available statewide to support conservation easement projects on dairy farms. The Farmland Protection Program for dairy builds on New York State's continued land preservation efforts. In May, the State announced nearly $38 million is available through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grant program to help Farmers across New York protect valuable and at-risk farmland. The application deadline is August 31, and the Request for Proposals is available at agriculture.ny.gov/RFPS.html.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 71 year old Phyllis Brown of Denver, New York for DWI, failure to maintain lane and failure to notify DMV change of address. The arrest was the result of a civilian report that Brown was driving erratically in the Village of Margaretville, nearly causing multiple collisions in the opposing lane of travel. Brown was released and is scheduled to appear at the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

The Latest Siena College Poll released Today shows that Governor Cuomo still holds a commanding lead over actress Cynthia Nixon among registered Democratic voters by a 58 to 27% margin. The poll also has Cuomo with commanding leads over Republican candidates State Senator John DeFrancisco and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy’s arrested 33 Year old Keith Brown of Davenport, for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, & Harassment, following a report of a domestic dispute in the Town of Davenport. Brown was arraigned at the Town of Davenport Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, pending future court action.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's office audited the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, the report suggests that they are doing well to ensure animal shelters are providing safe conditions and proper care for seized dogs, but officials could do more to make certain dogs are not inappropriately euthanized. DiNapoli's office visited 48 of the 294 shelters, Auditors found all of the shelters visited generally provided appropriate food, water and care, and tended to any injured animals.
Sidney Village Police arrested 20 year old Gage Solecki of Sidney on a bench warrant from Sidney court. During the arrest, Solecki attempted to fell from officers; he was apprehended & additionally charged with resisting arrest plus unlawful possession of marijuana. Solecki was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware county Jail on $1,500 cash bail pending action in Sidney court on May 29th.

The State DOT will hold a public meeting today to discuss plans to replace a culvert on State Route 7 over West Hill Road Creek in the town of Worcester. The open house meeting will be held at the Worcester High School cafeteria, beginning at 6:30 PM, A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 PM. The project proposes to replace the culvert, Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the spring of 2019 & take 3 to 4 weeks with an off-site detour in place.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced the arrest of 20 year old Michael Roque in his SUNY Binghamton Dorm Room, he has been charged with 2nd degree murder for the fatal stabbing of 19 year old Joao Souza in room G17 of Windham Hall Sunday Night. Roque was remanded to the Broome County Jail last night pending court action.
Otsego County Sheriff's deputies arrested 43 year old William DeSimone & 52 year old Gabrielle Bastian of New Lisbon for animal cruelty plus Growing of the cannabis by unlicensed persons & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The ASPCA was contacted to seize animals; many were relocated to safety after check-ups by veterinarians. Deputies seized 50 marijuana plants & dried Marijuana, DeSimone was given an appearance ticket and released. Gabrielle Bastian was arraigned in the Town of New Lisbon Court & was released after posting bail. Both are scheduled to reappear on April 25th in the Town of New Lisbon Court.
Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested a Town of Verona resident for Criminal Mischief, Criminal Obstruction of breathing or blood flow, and Harassment. 21 year old Luvinda Cobey was charged after Deputies responded to a Town of Greene business for a domestic dispute, while both were traveling on State Highway 12, Cobey is alleged to have punched, choked and caused damage to victim’s property as victim pulled into a business to seek help. Cobey was arraigned in the Village of Greene Court and was released on recognizance, pending future court action.
Missing teenager Robert Pegos of Binghamton has been found, according to State Police. Pegos was found in Bangor, Maine in good health, he will be returned to his family shortly, 2 unidentified people have been charged with custodial interference in this case.
