46-year-old Cindy Fortner pleaded guilty to 2 counts of 4th degree conspiracy, in connection to the kidnapping of her teen daughters. Shaeleen and Kylea Fortner were abducted in April 2015 while they were living with foster parents, they were found at the home of Amanda Hellman of Vestal, who has already pleaded guilty to kidnapping charges. Cindy Fortner will be sentenced on September 20th.
State Police arrested 56-year-old Karolyn White of Norwich, for Felony Aggravated DWI, with a BAC result of .24%, 3 times the legal limit. White was arrested following the report of a vehicle driving erratically in the Town of Oneonta. White was arraigned and remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of bail.
Binghamton Police are investigating a possible homicide, after the body of a man was found outside of 204 Oak Street Thursday morning. A 'suspicious death' in the city of Binghamton is now being investigated as a homicide. Today, Binghamton Police identified the victim as 44-year-old Walter Slater of Binghamton, anyone with information is asked to contact Binghamton Police detectives at 722-7080. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Sidney Village Officials & architects held a forum & open house for the community at the SIdney Library last night, to get input on preliminary plans to turn Main Street into a "Green Street" with an underground reservoir, new sidewalks, trees and increased lighting. Mayor Andy Matviak said that this project goes forward first, because the funding is available first:

Governor Cuomo today announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 a.m. on Friday, July 1, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in order to accommodate travelers during the busy Independence Day holiday weekend. The State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, State Troopers and Oneonta Police Department executed a search warrant at 510 Main Street in the City of Oneonta, following an investigation into heroin sales. Troopers seized 110 bags of heroin, $343 in cash, digital drug scales, 22 marihuana plants, 5 shotguns, 4 rifles, ammunition, 3 daggers, and marijuana cultivation equipment. 29 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon by a felon, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawfully Growing Cannabis. The Endangering Welfare of a Child charge is the result of a 5 year old child and 4 week old infant living in the residence where narcotics were found. Sherwood was arraigned in the Town of Milford Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Red Roof Inn, on Old Front Street in the Town of Dickinson Thursday, following the report of a patron destroying a room. 42-year-old Loretta Parliman is accused of causing about $1500.00 damage, she was arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. Parliman was charged with Criminal Mischief, False Personation, & faces additional charges following the secretion of narcotics from a body cavity.

State Police stopped a Hyundai speeding at 83 miles per hour on State Route 17 this afternoon in the Town of Sanford. 20 year old Shymil McBee-Miles of Binghamton was driving a stolen vehicle that from Vestal. When Troopers approached the vehicle, McBee-Miles drove away, at a high rate of speed, fleeing the scene. McBee-Miles attempted to take exit 82's ramp at a high rate of speed, and crash the vehicle, which overturned & he was ejected from the vehicle and was arrested while attempting to crawl away. McBee-Miles was transported to Wilson Hospital for a knee injury. McBee-Miles was arraigned in the Town of Windsor court for criminal possession of stolen property, He was remanded to the Broome County jail with no bail set, additional charges pending.
The Sidney High School Visual Arts Department Exhibit at the Harrington Gallery on Cartwright Avenue, will be on display through tomorrow at 4:00 PM. The exhibit can be seen between 11:00 & 4:00 on Saturday

New York’s maple farmers produced more than 700,000 gallons of maple syrup in 2016, due to warmer-than-normal temperatures, which allowed for an extended season.

On Saturday AT 10:00 am, Ceremonies will begin for Sidney, Greene, Harpursville, Norwich, & Walton, at 10:30 for Gilbertsville-Mount Upton, at 10:45 for Oneonta, & 11:00 AM for Oxford Academy. Saturday afternoon graduation ceremonies will be held for Unadilla Valley at 2:00 PM & Saturday night for Bainbridge-Guilford Seniors at 7:00 PM. Edmeston seniors will graduate on Sunday afternoon.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s department responded to a burglary in progress at 268 Round Pond Road in the Town of Smithville Thursday morning. A Sheriff’s Deputy and members of the Greene Police Department discovered a male suspect in the residence, at 11:15 AM, officers noticed smoke coming from the rear of the residence and called for fire department response. The suspect jumped through a window at the rear of the residence in an attempt to escape & suffered injuries. 26-year-old Adam King of Smithville was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City; he was released to the custody of the Sheriff's department. The fire was caused extensive damage to the residence, & is considered to be a total loss. King was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Arson & Criminal Mischief, and he was arraigned this morning in the Town of Smithville Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.

Deputies discovered a golf cart in a ditch in the area of Owens Road in Plymouth. 21 year old Jeremiah Garbett of Plymouth was arrested, The stolen cash and both stolen golf carts were recovered, Garbett was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 to reappear at a later date.

Ann Myrick was charged, for allegedly knocking a 66-year-old victim to the ground in Bill’s Diner in Norwich, causing serious physical injury. Myrick was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Oneonta Police Department served a search warrant late Wednesday afternoon on two apartments at 2 Cliff Street, they discovered 2.5 pounds of marijuana, 185 Xanax pills, 120 packages of marijuana edibles & over $9400 cash. Police arrested 25 year-old Cody Schlafer and 33 year-old Bryan VanDuesen for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of Marijuana, & 4th degree conspiracy. Both face court action shortly, the investigation is continuing.
State Police arrested 31-year-old James Cooke of Bainbridge for DWI & Several traffic violations, following the investigation of an accident in Bainbridge last night. Cooke registered a BAC of .16, twice the legal limit, following the 2-vehicle accident on State Route 206 in the Town of Bainbridge. Cooke failed to stop in time and drove into a vehicle that was stopped in traffic ahead of him. The driver of the other vehicle had neck pain and was transported to Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney. Cooke was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Bainbridge Court on May 19th.
State Police were attempting to locate a 14 year old suspect who was wanted for a menacing with a weapon in Windsor in April, while trying to locate the juvenile, Troopers allege that 29 year old Jessie Bolster & 74 Year old Faith Lynch, harbored the suspect at their home on Fox Farm Road in the Town of Windsor. The 14 year old suspect was later located and arrested, & was transported to a juvenile facility, Bolster and Lynch were arrested for hindering prosecution, Bolster was arraigned in the Town of Windsor court and was remanded to the Broome county jail on bail. Lynch was issued a ticket returnable to the Town of Windsor court on May 18th.

The Preceptor Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will honor Carol Allen of Sidney Saturday, for her service to the Sidney United Way, the Sidney Chamber of Commerce, the Sidney Elementary School, the Sidney Senior Center, and The Delaware County Council for the Aging, & several other organizations. The award will be presented at a luncheon on Saturday at 12:00 PM to be held at the Sacred Heart Community Center on Liberty Street in Sidney.
Police have identified the body of the woman found in the Chenango River as 37-year-old Brenda Halpin, who had been missing since April 8 from her Chenango Bridge home. The identification was announced Thursday after fingerprint comparison and analysis was performed, according to the Broome County Sheriff's Office. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, and the cause of her death was ruled as freshwater drowning. Halpin's body was found just before 2 p.m. Tuesday by a man walking along the riverbank in Port Dickinson, in the 600 block of Chenango Street.

29-Year-old Amanda Hellman of Vestal pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon in Broome County Court to 2nd degree kidnapping. Hellmann faces Sentencing on July 11th, Hellmann kidnapped 14 year old Shaeleen Fortner & 16 year old Kylea Fortner, they were located in March, 47 year old Cindy Fortner who is the girl’s biological mother, was also charged in connection to their kidnapping, she is being held in the Broome County Jail pending court action.
Deposit Police have arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Hafele of Deposit, after an investigation into a burglary complaint in the Village where several firearms were stolen. Hafele was charged with 9 counts of 4th degree Grand Larceny & 1count of Offering a false instrument for filing; he was arraigned in the Village of Deposit Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail pending further action of the Court.
The Afton Chamber of Commerce will hold the formal recognition of Rich Cuthbertson as "Citizen Of The Year" and Liz Dawson’s "Main Street Grill and Bakery" as the Business of The Year. 29-Year-old Amanda Hellman of Vestal pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon in Broome County Court to 2nd degree kidnapping. Hellmann faces Sentencing on July 11th, Hellmann kidnapped 14 year old Shaeleen Fortner & 16 year old Kylea Fortner, they were located in March, 47 year old Cindy Fortner who is the girl’s biological mother, was also charged in connection to their kidnapping, she is being held in the Broome County Jail pending court action.
Deposit Police have arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Hafele of Deposit, after an investigation into a burglary complaint in the Village where several firearms were stolen. Hafele was charged with 9 counts of 4th degree Grand Larceny & 1count of Offering a false instrument for filing; he was arraigned in the Village of Deposit Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail pending further action of the Court.
The Afton Chamber of Commerce will hold the formal recognition of Rich Cuthbertson as "Citizen Of The Year" and Liz Dawson’s "Main Street Grill and Bakery" as the Business of The Year. The dinner will take place on Sunday, May 15 at the Afton River Club from 3-6 p.m. Presentation of this year’s honorees will be performed by State Senator Fred Akshar. A trial date has been set for April 4th in Chenango County Court for 57 year old John Guzy, who is accused of fatally shooting 26 year old Derek Prindle of Afton and shooting & wounding his father Derek S. Prindle on State Route 7 in Bainbridge on October 27th in 2014. Guzy has waived his right to a jury trial; the presiding judge will decide his fate.
Governor Cuomo is inviting New Yorkers to an Open House at the Executive Mansion on Sunday, March 27th to celebrate Easter Sunday. Visitors and their families will be welcome to tour the Executive Mansion, meet the Governor, and participate in an inaugural Easter egg hunt. All adults over the age of 16 wishing to attend must have a ticket. Individuals who receive tickets will be allowed to bring 1 guest and any underage children from their household. The registration period takes place at governor.ny.gov until Friday, March 18th at 5:00 PM. The Open House will be held from 1:30PM to 3:30PM on March 27th.
19-year-old Jonathan Garcia pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in Broome County Court today. Garcia was charged with 2 counts of 2nd degree murder, 2 counts of robbery and 1 count of criminal possession of a weapon for the shooting death of Jamaal Moses in Binghamton on February 14th. Garcia was apprehended in Florida & was returned to New York, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Highway 268 in the Town of Tompkins, they arrested 36 year old Thomas Evans of Walton for speeding, improper passing, aggravated unlicensed operation, & Criminal Possession of controlled substance. Evans was arranged and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail pending court action in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 46-year-old Ronald Sanford of Middletown for criminal mischief. The arrest occurred after troopers were advised of a domestic dispute that occurred on March 11, in the Town of Middletown. During a verbal argument, the victim attempted to get into her car and driveway, Sanford allegedly grabbed a large rock and threw it at her car twice, causing over $4000 damage. Sanford was issued a ticket returnable to the Town of Middletown court on March 16, 2016.
Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills announced that the Sunday Fundraiser at Danny's Restaurant in Walton netted nearly $30,000 for the K-9 program. The K-9 unit has become increasingly important as the county battles the ongoing drug problem. Sheriff Mills stated that the money raised would be used for the continuance of the K9 unit & the upkeep for "Ozzie"

Governor Cuomo today announced $17 million in awards to nonprofit organizations and municipalities to create more than 700 affordable homes and new home ownership opportunities throughout the state. An announcement for the Southern tier will include more than $1 million to improve and repair the homes of 46 residents in the Southern Tier; it includes $400,000 for Opportunities for Chenango, to provide rehabilitation and energy conversation measures to 16 low-income households.
Governor Cuomo today announced the expansion of the New York State Master Teacher Program. The current 623 Master Teachers have an average teaching experience of 14 years. To be eligible for application to the NYS Master Teacher Program, teachers must be certified New York State public school teachers in grades six through twelve, have a minimum of 4 years of experience teaching STEM subjects and must spend at least 60 percent of their time in the classroom teaching those subjects. Binghamton Mets New Owner John Hughes announced that the team would remain as a New York met Affiliate, but he is soliciting ideas from fans to rebrand the team & give it a new name synonymous with the Greater Binghamton Area. Hughes revealed the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets would play at NYSEG Stadium under a new name starting in 2017. The team will launch a “Name the Team” contest on Opening Day, April 7. Submissions will be accepted through April 25th, when the top 6 possible team names will be unveiled. Fans can vote for their favorite name for two weeks via the team website. The new official name of the Double-A Mets will be revealed in October 2016.

State Police arrested 29 year old Amanda Hellman of Vestal, for 2nd degree Kidnapping. Hellman is a family acquaintance of the victims, she was arraigned in Town of Vestal Court & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. The effort will begin Saturday, and run through Thursday, drivers can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking details during the campaign. State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers who use handheld electronic devices. During the 2015 St. Patrick's Day weekend enforcement effort, Troopers made 264 arrests for DWI and issued more than 14,000 tickets.
With Daylight Savings Time approaching this weekend, The Firefighters Association of New York encourages all New Yorkers to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and ensure their homes are properly protected against fire.
