She is described as a white female, with black hair & brown eyes, about 5' 5" and 190 pounds, she may have traveled to the Binghamton area. The village of Sidney is expecting to have their new water source & system ready by early next year, Sidney Mayor Ray Baker explains:

the State Division of Consumer Protection is warning consumers to be cautious of charity scams. fraudsters pretend to be affiliated with well-known organizations or even the government to scam people out of their hard-earned money. According to the Federal Trade Commission, there were 9,809 reports of charitable solicitation fraud nationwide in 2023, but many of these scams go unreported because individuals may not know where their donations are going or that they are being scammed. The Consumer Assistance Helpline 1-800-697-1220, consumer complaints can be filed at dos.ny.gov/consumerprotection.


A Florida man is facing multiple charges following a firearms related incident in Endicott. Last Tuesday, patrols responded to a report that the Endicott Police Department were searching for a male suspect who had pointed a handgun at a female in Endicott, before fleeing the scene in a red Dodge Caravan. A short time later, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle in the Town of Dickinson and conducted a traffic stop, 62 year old Jack Hawe of Zephyr Hills, Florida was found to have a loaded Glock pistol & ammunition, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and other similar charges, he was processed & was sent to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment.

Between 4 to 10 inches of snow is forecast for Central New York and 3 to 5 inches in the Mohawk Valley Regions today. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols responded Monday to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of State Route 7B in the Town of Fenton. The caller had been working to clear brush on State property with a Bobcat machine when he heard a gunshot and saw a person pointing a shotgun directly at him. After raising a portion of the Bobcat to protect himself, the worker called 911. 42 year old Jennifer Warner of Port Crane was taken into custody, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Menancing & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for methamphetamines, she was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office is partnering with Senator Peter Oberacker on a Winter Coat Drive. In Delaware County, new and gently used winter coats and jackets in any size may be dropped off at the Delaware County Office Building at 111 Main Street Delhi, For a list of other drop off locations go to Oberacker.NYSenate.gov.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a hit and run accident in the Town of Chenango. On November 27 at 6:30 p.m. at 1388 River Road, a car struck a pedestrian. Investigators are seeking assistance from anyone with information or home security camera footage from the accident. The vehicle involved is believed to be a black sedan with damage to its front passenger side, any information related to the incident, contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at (607)778-1196.


State Officials report that there have been relatively few incidents during this year's Deer Hunting Season, they did report that a 17 year old accidentally shot himself in the foot Saturday Morning in Oneida County, he was taken to a Syracuse hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

32 year old Michael Kimball of Binghamton was found guilty of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief & Unlawful Fleeing A Police Officer In A Motor Vehicle, by a Broome County Jury Thursday. On February 26, Kimball led police from 3 different agencies on a chase through Binghamton and Port Dickinson while driving a stolen pickup truck. A relative of the owner of the stolen pickup truck tried to intervene by placing his own pickup truck on the street in order to stop Kimball from fleeing. The pursuit persisted, with Kimball apprehended in a wooded area, he faces sentencing on July 27th & faces up to 1 1/3 to 4 years in New York State Prison.

The Village of Sidney Police Department arrested of 45 year old Harun Spence in connection with the Armed Robbery Friday Afternoon at Smiley's on West Main Street. Sidney Police, State Police & Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene, they uncovered evidence regarding the vehicle used to flee the crime. Saturday Night, Sidney Police & State Police found Spence & he was taken into custody without incident, a firearm & other evidence was recovered, Spence was charged with 1st degree Robbery, Criminal use of a Weapon, Grand Larceny & Menacing, he was transported to the Delaware County Central Arraignment Court, Sidney Village Mayor Ray Baker commended Chief Oliver & the Sidney Police Department:

The Sidney Police Department stated that the investigation is continuing, more charges may be pending.


42 year old Mary Cutting of Sidney was sentenced to 6 years of incarceration to be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, for selling fentanyl and methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney. State Police performed 2 controlled purchases of illegal drugs from Cutting, A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 2-count indictment for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, Cutting was sentenced to 3 years in prison with 2 years of post-release supervision, she requested multiple adjournments of her sentencing, she is accused of committing additional crimes during that time. Cutting was apprehended on April 8th, the DA's office moved to void the previous plea agreement & they requested the 6 year sentence.


The Binghamton Rumble Ponies will be sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings, a company that owns and operates select Minor League clubs affiliated with Major League Baseball. The Double-A Mets affiliate will continue playing at Mirabito Stadium as all front office staff remain in place, Richard Tylicki, will continue as General Manager.

State Police announced that troopers issued 6,876 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. State Police increased patrols and conducted sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify and arrest impaired drivers, they arrested 139 people for DWI, and investigated 245 crashes, which injured 37 people. State Police did not respond to any fatal crashes during the weekend. In Troop C there were 465 tickets issued, including 13 for DWI & 102 for speeding & 11 for distracted driving.


Port Dickinson Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday to Port Dickinson for a report of gunfire and possible domestic dispute. Upon arrival, a female victim was located with minor injuries from a dispute with her boyfriend, who was located shortly afterwards. Law enforcement located several shell casings, both parties sustained minor injuries and the female was transported to a nearby hospital & were treated & released, neither party was cooperative with the investigation and the handgun used to fire the shots was not located. Chenango Street was closed for a few hours while Detectives processed the scene and canvassed the area for property damage and witnesses. No person sustained injuries from the firearm being discharged and no charges have been filed. During the initial crime scene investigation, a vehicle struck a Trooper car that was blocking the roadway & drove through the scene, nearly striking a Detective. That vehicle was located nearby and the operator, 37 year old Helene Delnegro of Port Dickinson was charged with DWI, Reckless Endangerment & Obstructing Governmental Administration.


New York State Public Service Commission adopted a $200 million New York State energy bill credit to be administered by the large electric and gas utilities on behalf of their customers. The energy bill credit is a one-time credit using State-appropriated funds to provide energy bill relief to more than 8 million directly metered electric and gas customers, more than $1.4 billion has been or will be made available to New York consumers to help offset energy costs in 2024.


SUNY campuses are investing nearly $10 million in State funding to increase their mental health services and support for students, faculty, and staff, at 28 campuses. The plans call for Hiring more staff to support students, Entering tele-counseling contracts to provide more access to therapy, Extending counselor contracts to provide services over the summer months. At least 25 campuses will hire, retain, or extend the contracts of over 90 mental health staff, More information is available at suny.edu.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced the 6 designated Free Fishing Days in New York will take place on this weekend, February 17 to 18, plus June 29 to 30, September 28, which is National Hunting and Fishing Day and November 11 Veterans Day. During these days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York’s waters.

Over 2500 NYSEG customers were without power in Broome, Chenango & Delaware Counties early this morning, due to the high winds knocking down tree limbs & Power lines, crews are trying to restore power as soon as possible.


Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond returned from a 4 day trip to Washington DC, as President of the New York State Sheriff's Association, meeting with members of Congress & the US Senate & FBI Director Christopher Wray, he told WCDO News that he hopes that his position will help get the Sheriff's Associations positions taken seriously:

Sheriff DuMond said that he has 1 year to serve as the Association President, he is the 1st Delaware County sheriff to hold the position in the Associations 90 year history.


36 year old Ryan Wood of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. A 1 Count Indictment was unsealed, charging Wood with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on September 18, 2023. Wood pleaded not guilty to the indictment, he was released from custody, if he is convicted of this crime, he faces a maximum sentence of 9 years in state prison and up to 2 years of post-release supervision.


Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad and BCSO Detective Division, following several leads, located Olivia Gutierrez in the Village of Endicott and successfully brought her into custody. Gutierrez was this week's featured warrant by the Broome County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.

The Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar gave an update today regarding the investigation into last Friday's multi-vehicle accident on State Route 12A in the Town of Chenango where a 15 year old faces several charges & will be processed in Family Court:

The 15 year old juvenile had no previous record, the driver of 1st vehicle that was hit, sustained serious injuries and was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center, and remains there in recovery, the juvenile was also taken to Wilson & was treated & released.


State Police at Troop C has updated the situation regarding the January 29th incident, where Cortland County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve eviction paperwork to 58 year old Steven Burda who was in possession of a shotgun. State Police responded to the assist, they attempted to de-escalate the situation until Cortland Police Lieutenant Cheyenne Cute attempted to disarm Burda using beanbag impact rounds, which were ineffective and Burda discharged his shotgun at the Officers, who were not struck. Cortland County Sheriff’s Investigator Sergeant Anthony Phelps discharged his sidearm, striking Burda in the lower body. Burda was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, he is in stable condition, State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Burda for Attempted Murder, he will be arraigned on the warrant following his release from the hospital.


State Police at Troop C are also investigating the death of 46 year old Terence Johnson of 14 Game Farm Road, Ithaca. Johnson was discovered deceased in his apartment from a gunshot wound to the head during the early morning hours of Sunday, January 28th, Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation is requested to contact the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 607-561-7400.

The Binghamton Police Department is currently investigating a shooting on Monday At approximately 7:10 pm. at 100 Roberts Street building 6. officers located 15- 9mm shell casings and 10- 40 caliber Shell casings, No injuries have been reported, 4 vehicles had been struck by gunfire. The suspects are described as five to six masked men, last seen fleeing the area on foot. Anyone with information should contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau at (607) 772-7080.


Broome County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 37 year old Helene Delnegro of Port Dickinson, for Reckless Endangerment and Obstructing Governmental Administration, after driving through an active crime scene while fleeing police. Delnegro was taken into custody by New York State Police on separate charges related to his incident.

Scammers impersonating Sheriff’s detectives and deputies are again contacting Broome County residents in an effort to solicit money and gift cards from unsuspecting victims, where the residents are informed that they had missed a court appearance and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines. The scammer will request payment in the form of credit card information or gift cards, in some cases the victim’s employer was also contacted as part of the scam. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone from cold callers, those who receive scam calls are urged to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Cody Leonard of Binghamton for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment, following a Domestic Dispute in November 2023. Shortly after the incident occurred, Leonard was incarcerated at the Broome County Jail on unrelated charges & an arrest warrant was issued. Leonard faces court action on the newest charges shortly.


The Broome County Sheriff's office arrested 35 year old Kasandra Wolfran of Port Crane for DWI, Aggravated DWI, Operating a vehicle with a suspended registration & Moving from a lane unsafely after a car-tractor trailer accident on Route 17 West in the Town of Union. Deputies responded Friday to a report of a motor vehicle accident, video footage recorded by the tractor trailer's camera revealed that Wolfran attempted to cut in front of the tractor trailer & her car was struck by the tractor trailer & they both headed for the median, where they struck & damaged the guardrail, with the tractor trailer dumping its load of aluminum spools. Deputies reported that Wolfran had a BAC of .18, more than double the legal limit, she was arrested, arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Union Court later this month.


35 year old William Polhamus of Harpursville appeared in Delaware County Court Monday for sentencing on 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. On July 4th, 2023, Walton Police responded to a physical domestic dispute in progress, where Polhamus physically assaulted a woman in front of a minor child, he then took another minor child and had drove off on a motorcycle, he then led Walton police in a chase, weaving through traffic, the chase was stopped & State Police located & arrested Polhamus, he was sentenced to 1 year in jail, he was ordered to pay a crime victim’s fee and was assessed the mandatory state surcharge.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced State University of New York campuses are investing nearly $10 million to provide 3,000 SUNY students with internships before graduation. SUNY Chancellor John King visited SUNY Delhi, where he met with students and business leaders to discuss internship opportunities and the ways SUNY can create a workforce development pipeline in Delaware County and across the state. All 29 campuses will increase the number of paid internship slots for undergraduate students.


The State Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Services announced today that the annual Winterfest, originally scheduled for February 10th, at Nathaniel Cole Park has been canceled. Officials stated that there was insufficient snow and ice to accommodate the usual scheduled activities.

Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that Josie Valdes-Pica of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to Attempted Assault & 2nd & 3rd Degree Assault just before the start of jury selection. On November 7, 2022, Valdes-Pica struck a female victim multiple times with a metal baseball bat, he is facing 3.5 to 15 years in a State Correctional Facility, followed by 5 years post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for May 3, 2024, in Broome County Court.


Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that a corrections investigation led to a an arrest of an inmate at the Correctional Facility. Investigators received information on a homemade instrument, Officers initiated a search of several cells, 19 year old Alixander Lavelle had the solid, sharpened piece of plastic from under the mattress in Lavelle’s cell, he was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband, he was processed and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.


Local government sales tax collections totaled $23 billion in calendar year 2023, up 4.2%, from 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York City's sales tax growth was 5.9% in 2023 for the rest of the state was 2.4%, much of the increase was attributed to the return of tourism to per-pandemic levels.
