The Chenango Arts Council announced a continuation in funding from the New York State Council on the Arts for the 2017 Broome, Chenango & Otsego Decentralization Grant Program. The $129,280 is available to non-profit organizations and artists who partner with an eligible non-profit for cultural initiatives in 2017. Funding is available for grants up to $5,000 each to support Community Arts and Arts Education grants in Broome, Chenango and Otsego counties. The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold its next "Business After Hours" & Ribbon Cutting event today. The event will be held at the newly expanded Harrington Photography, Art & Framing on Cartwright Avenue in Sidney, Owner Dan Harrington commented:

Harrington said that the newly opened Gallery currently features the Leatherstocking Brush & Palette Club from Cooperstown; they will feature different exhibits on a monthly basis, from a variety of different local artists.
The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for August, the State’s unemployment rate increased over the month, from 4.7% to 4.8% in August, locally, Chenango County had an unemployment rate at 4.4%, Delaware County was at 4.9% & Otsego county was at 4.3%.

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced its annual award recipients, this year's winners are: Wahl to Wahl Auto, The Hartwick College Center for Craft Food & Beverage, The award winners will be honored at the Chamber's Small Business Banquet on Thursday, October 20th at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown.
Bassett Healthcare Network has been awarded a $297,419 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for up to four years to bring telehealth services to the school-based health care setting. The grant-funded project will benefit students enrolled in 18 of Bassett’s school-based health centers in Delaware, Otsego and Chenango counties. In addition to providing access to sub specialists, the school-based project will include diabetes care and education, obesity prevention programming and nutritional counseling, oral health care, behavioral health services, and asthma care and education. From July of 2015 through June of 2016, the program handled 33,522 visits; 32 percent of those were mental health visits, and 59 percent were medical visits; the dental component handled over 3,054 visits.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the arrest and arraignment of 4 former employees of Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cooperstown, who are accused of leaving a 94-year-old patient left in a recliner with substandard care for 41 hours over the Memorial Day weekend in May. Lorraine Caldwell, of Holland Patent, Amanda Gus of Hartwick, Sarah Schuyler of Mohawk and Donna Gray, of Sidney were charged with Falsifying Business Records, Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person & Willful Violation of Health Laws, all 4 were arraigned in Town of Otsego Court & were released on their own recognizance.

The Sidney Chamber Annual Gold Tournament will be held tomorrow at the Sidney Golf & Country Club, with room for another 1 or teams, also the recently rained out Cruise in has been rescheduled for Friday August 26th, and a Chamber open house at the new Office will be held on September 12th.
State Senator Jim Seward & Assemblyman Bill Magee announced a $1 million grant, with half coming from each legislative house, to help fund the 12-tower Otsego County emergency communication system. The System is expected to be completed later this fall.

The State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, State Troopers and Oneonta Police Department executed a search warrant at 510 Main Street in the City of Oneonta, following an investigation into heroin sales. Troopers seized 110 bags of heroin, $343 in cash, digital drug scales, 22 marihuana plants, 5 shotguns, 4 rifles, ammunition, 3 daggers, and marijuana cultivation equipment. 29 year old Tadd Sherwood of Oneonta was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon by a felon, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawfully Growing Cannabis. The Endangering Welfare of a Child charge is the result of a 5 year old child and 4 week old infant living in the residence where narcotics were found. Sherwood was arraigned in the Town of Milford Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary Tuesday at the Canasawacta Country Club, a suspect had stolen cash and a golf cart; a second golf cart had been stolen previously. Deputies discovered a golf cart in a ditch in the area of Owens Road in Plymouth. 21 year old Jeremiah Garbett of Plymouth was arrested, The stolen cash and both stolen golf carts were recovered, Garbett was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 to reappear at a later date.
