The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Dupray Jordan of Binghamton entered a guilty plea in US District Court for possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell, possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, in connection with a warrant executed in November of 2021. Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison, a series of fines, when he is sentenced on May 8, 2024 in Syracuse.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were contacted by members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office December 19th, that they had 59-year-old Eva Witteman in custody. Delaware County Deputies took Witteman into custody and transported her to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where she was arraigned & held without bail, an indictment was unsealed & she is accused of possessing methamphetamine following an investigation of an abandoned vehicle in February, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, she was was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in court at a later date for these charges.

58-year-old Joy LaBarr of Binghamton was charged with stealing nearly $32,000 in State pension payments intended for her deceased father-in-law, according to the State Comptroller's office and Broome County District Attorney Michael Korchak. LaBarr’s father-in-law, Jack Burnett, retired in 2006 from the Binghamton Housing Authority. Under the pension option he chose, his wife was to continue receiving payments after his death, however, she predeceased him, so payments should have stopped upon his death in December 2020, No one from the family reported his passing. LaBarr was charged with grand larceny. She was arraigned in Broome County Court & is due back in court on January 12th.
As of mid December, the United Way of Mid Rural New York campaign has reached 50% of its $425,000 goal for Chenango County, about 51% of the Delaware County Goal of $15,000 and 32% of their stated Otsego County Goal of of $80,000. 42 year old Melissa Astalos of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Astalos appeared admitted that she knowingly possessed a narcotic compound in the Village of Sidney on February 16th, sentencing will be held in January of 2024.
U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro announced his constituent service team will hold mobile office hours from noon to 2:00pm today, at the Stamford Village Hall. constituents will be able to connect with representatives from Rep. Molinaro's office to share comments and resolve issues they are having with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, and Social Security Administration.

The Town of Oneonta has adjusted the restricted area to the public to properties close to the area around Saturday's explosion & fire at Richards Avenue in Oneonta's West End. Residents within the affected area will be allowed to secure their homes from the outside only, Town of Oneonta Code Enforcement will be on scene with NYSEG to assist residents, the Code Enforcement Office phone number is 607-432-8606. A representative from Mobile Crises Assessment Team is at the Oneonta Town Hall today and Wednesday at starting at 10:00 AM for anyone who needs assistance, their phone number is 315-732-6228.

NYSEG is reporting over 3000 customers without power this afternoon, following the heavy wet snow over the region. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Most of the power outages were in the Middle & Eastern townships in Delaware County.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to motor vehicle complaint in the Town of Davenport November 26th, Deputies learned that a vehicle had been stolen, damaged and return to the owner’s residence. Later that day Sheriff's Deputies located where the vehicle had been involved in a property damage accident. Deputies determined that owner 23-year-old Hector Padilla of Davenport had made a false report and was the operator of the vehicle when it was involved in the accident. Deputies charged Padilla with 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 1 count of Obstructing Governmental Administration & 1 count of Falsely Reporting an Incident, he was issued appearance tickets for Town of Davenport Court at a later date.

On Saturday at approximately 5:30 pm; The Otsego County 911 Center received multiple 911 calls reporting an explosion and residential structure fire on Richards Avenue in the Town of Oneonta. The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.

The Tioga County District Attorney’s Office announced that 32 year old Boyd Fenton of Athens, Pennsylvania was arraigned on a 105-count indictment for setting a fire at Tioga Downs that killed 30 horses, destroyed the barn, injured a trainer, he was indicted for arson, assault, burglary, 38 counts of criminal mischief, 30 counts of interference with or injury to domestic animals; 31 counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; aggravated cruelty to animals; bail for Fenton has been set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 property and $250,000 secured bond.
Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 44 year old Laura Davis of Big Indian was indicted for Drugged Driving by the Delaware County Grand Jury on December 7th. The Indictment alleges that on March 3rd, Davis was driving in the Village of Walton while her ability to operate that motor vehicle was impaired by a stimulant, she was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of its Original Container.

A federally housed inmate at the Broome County Correctional Facility is facing 17 felony charges after investigators found fentanyl, PCP and other contraband hidden in his cell. On October 24th, the Corrections Criminal Investigations Unit conducted cell searches, 41 year old Freddie Brown of Baldwinsville was charged with multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 11 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, Officers seized fentanyl, PCP, synthetic cannabis, & tobacco, Brown was arraigned for the charges in the Town of Dickinson Court earlier this month.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Joseph Ogborn of Otego for possessing social media accounts not listed on the sex offender registry. Ogborn is a level 3 sex offender, he was charged with 2 counts of Sex Offender Failure to Register, he was located today by investigators and parole officers and taken in to custody, bail was recommended by the Otsego County District Attorney's Office at $5,000 cash, $5,000 credit card and $50,000 bond.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for October. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.0% in September to 4.2% in October , locally, Chenango County had 3.2%, Delaware County 3.7% and Otsego County 3.4% in October.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and State Police announced the arrest of Utica City School District Superintendent Bruce Karam and the former Utica Mayor and School Board President Louis LaPolla. Karam was using school money and resources to send election mailers in support of school board candidates that he favored and who determined his contract, salary and authority. He also is accused of using school resources to send invitations for a non-school related fundraiser for a purported charity run by LaPolla. LaPolla was allegedly aware that school resources were being used on his behalf. Karam also allegedly tried to cover up his actions by attempting to persuade school district employees to lie that the resources being used for a valid purpose.

The Indictment accuses Kern of Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, he is accused pf threatening and spitting on an African American female from Sidney, threatened her with violence, & used racial slurs.
The Broome County Corrections Academy will hold its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 at the Holiday Inn in Downtown Binghamton, starting at 11:30 this morning. 25 graduates will officially earn the rank of Officer, after 3 months of training, learning defense tactics, studying law, Several recruits will also be recognized with individual awards.
The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office arrested 50-year-old Joellyn Bedford, of Norwich, for using a forged bank cashier's check to buy a 2021 Ford Bronco worth $58,500. The Sheriff's Office accuses Bedford of using a check with a false name to purchase the car, she then sold the vehicle to a dealership in Otsego County.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Jentre Bergman of McGraw for Robbery. On September 23rd, Bergman allegedly went to a residence in the Town of German, where he forcefully stole a Harley-Davidson motorcycle by pointing a shotgun at the victim & fled the scene on the motorcycle. An arrest warrant was then issued for Bergman, who was arrested by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and held in their facility on un-related charges. Bergman was then transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed for charges of Robbery, Grand Larceny, and Menacing, he was arraigned in the Town of German Court where bail was set at $5,000. Bergman was then transported back to the Cortland County Correctional Facility where he is being held.

State Police arrested 39 year old Antoine Laporte of Buffalo for Criminal Possession of a Weapon after a Trooper observed a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed, The Trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle but lost sight of the car, the trooper ended up finding the vehicle rolled over at the bottom of the East Branch exit ramp. Laporte walking on Harvard Road, he fled but was eventually detained, Laporte had multiple warrants for Assault and Larceny in Erie County and in the state of New Jersey, troopers also located a weapon in the wrecked vehicle. Laporte was transported to Wilson Hospital for a medical evaluation, he was released & was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Defense & The Prosecution finished up their cases in the trial of Former Colonial Restaurant Owners Yaron Kweller & Jordan Rindgen today in Binghamton. Kweller is charged with criminal sexual abuse and rape, Rindgen is charged with criminal sex act and unlawfully dealing with a child. Closing arguments will start tomorrow morning in Broome County Court.

State Police announced that no arrests were made during an Underage Drinking Initiative in Troop “C” in Otsego County on Friday October 27th. During the initiative, 13 businesses were checked. All 13 were in compliance and did not sell alcohol to an under-aged operative. During the Initiative, retail establishments are checked using a trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or give a fake date of birth. When asked for ID, they must show their real ID.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task force executed 2 search warrants Coston was found in possession cocaine, crack cocaine, baggies, a scale, and $1,200 from suspected drug sales.

Oneonta Police Department were investigating a noise complaint in the area of Spruce Street and Myrtle Avenue in the City of Oneonta, While investigating, officers heard what sounded like discharging a firearm. Officers were assisted by State Police, and State University Police, a search was conducted, they found no evidence of a firearms discharge. The investigation is ongoing, Anyone with additional information should call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Binghamton man following a fight with staff and customers at a restaurant & with Deputies during and after his arrest Sunday. 25 year old Hamail Waddell of Binghamton was placed in the patrol car, he began kicking the car doors and repeatedly striking his head against the car window, he was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s office for processing, he kicked a door handle off, he was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation, where he verbally abused patients & staff, he was sedated & treated and returned to Central Arraignment & was charged with Criminal Mischief, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Disorderly Conduct, & Harassment, he was still in custidy Sunday night.

Baker had previously pleaded guilty to Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Aggravated DWI following a crash in February in the Village of Sidney, where she struck 14 year old Anielle "AK" McEwan Lomnicki as she was walking home from school. Judge Hubbard sentenced Baker to an indeterminate term of state prison having a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 12 years for Aggravated Vehicular Assault, she was also sentenced to serve a concurrent 1-year sentence for her conviction of Aggravated DWI. The Court imposed fines totaling $2,270.00 and ordered that the defendant’s driver’s license be revoked.

NYSEG officials reported that many customers were still without power this afternoon around the tri-county region, following last night's powerful thunderstorms. NYSEG Reported about 1200 without power in Broome county, about 600 in Otsego County, 120 in Chenango County & about 25 in Delaware County, as crews continue to restore power in areas that had downed trees & power lines.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded on August 13th, to a report of vandalism in the Town of Kortright. It was reported that someone had driven a bulldozer on West Kortright Church Road causing extensive damage to the roadway, on September 4th, Deputies arrested Robert Sargent for Criminal Mischief, he was released on an appearance ticket, for the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

49 year old Richard Foster of Middletown appeared in Delaware County Court & entered a guilty plea to Attempted Assault, Foster was originally charged with a series of crimes stemming from a domestic assault that took place on March 14th. Foster was observed obstructing traffic on State Highway 28, Officers apprehended him after he struck a woman multiple times and attempted to steal prescription pills. Foster was sentenced to one year in jail, an Order of Protection was issued for the victim for a period of 2 years.
The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for July 2023. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 3.9% in July, locally, Chenango County had 2.9% unemployment, Delaware County 3.7% & Otsego County 3.3% in July.

Deputies conducted a check of Buckley’s driver’s license & found his driving privileges were suspended in New York. Buckley was released on the traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Zacharias Fuller on over 80 counts of Criminal Contempt. Fuller is an Otsego County inmate accused of violating a court order of protection, for contacting the protected party prior to his incarceration, and while incarcerated in the Otsego County Correction Facility violating the order of protection. Fuller was turned back over to Otsego County Correctional Facility where he was being held for prior offenses, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Worcester Court on a later date.

Macrabie pleaded not guilty, he was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, the case is scheduled for a conference on September 5th.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to the apartments at 101 Hooper Road for complaint of shots fired. Deputies located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen on the lawn, he was taken to Wilson Hospital and was in stable condition following surgery. 25 year old Jeffrey Gates of Endwell was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Criminal Use of a Firearm & Reckless Endangerment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, the investigation is continuing.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that a report studying public transportation options for Delaware County is available for public review and comment, according to the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce. A contraband investigation led to multiple drug smuggling charges at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility this week. 36 year old Jamell Jones was charged with 2 Counts of Promoting Prison Contraband, 2 Counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus Obstructing Governmental Administration. Jones became uncooperative, & was combative with investigators, Jones was placed in a Medical Housing Unit under Contraband Protocol to monitor his health and prevent a possible overdose from the Methamphetamines that were smuggled on his person. Jones was processed at the Broome County Correctional Facility and will answer for his charges at the Town of Dickinson Court on a future date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Chase Northrop of Morris as a Fugitive From Justice out of the state of Texas. The Investigation revealed that Northrop violated the terms of his probation which led to a warrant for his arrest, Northrop turned himself in to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office today where he was taken in to custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await extradition to Texas.
Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that a mudslide occurred this morning in Windsor, partially blocking State Route 79 near Piper Hill Road, shortly after 5:00 AM today. The southbound lane was blocked for several hours as State DOT crews worked to clear the road.

Loucks' Drivers License & vehicle registration was suspended, he was ticketed for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, speeding & several other charges, Loucks was released & is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Simpson will also serve 5 years of post release supervision.

Otsego County Department of Health reported that a bobcat in the town of Unadilla tested positive for Rabies Saturday. Officials said that 1 dog was exposed but was vaccinated, it received a booster shot & was treated for wounds suffered from the bobcat. 4 people are also undergoing post rabies exposure treatment, DEC officials were looking a for 2nd possibly rabid bobcat in Unadilla. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Dennis Nelson was sentenced to additional prison time, as he was found guilty of sending threatening letters to Judge Thomas McAvoy, Then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & US Senator Chuck Schumer, while in State Prison on another charge. Nelson threatened to blow up the Courthouse in Binghamton, Nelson was sentenced to 7 more years in prison and 3 years of supervised release after his incarceration.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Edward Williamson for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Williamson was arrested following an investigation of a burglary that occurred in November 2022 in the Town of New Berlin. Williamson was arrested at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges, he was transported back to Chenango County for arraignment & was remanded back to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, he will return to Chenango County at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 35 year old Brian Worden of Oneonta following a disturbance call. Worden is accused of possessing a controlled substance when police showed up to a disturbance in the Meadows Office Complex Parking lot, Worden was arrested & was issued an appearance ticket.

Donnelly was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief, Donnelly was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000.00 cash bail.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Megan McGowan of Oxford on 2 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance after an investigation into an animal complaint. McGowan was charged after it was found that there was a dog on her property that did not have any food or water and was not being cared for properly, Deputies also found a deceased dog in a shed that died from lack of care. McGowan was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Oxford Court at a later date.

Sidney Police Department arrested 33 year old Jesse Terry of Unadilla Wednesday, for criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs & resisting arrest amon other charges. Sidney Police received an alert about a stolen vehicle out of Oneonta, the vehicle was observed at a car wash, with State Police assisting the traffic stop, Terry did not comply and rammed the Sidney Police car, police pursued along West Main Street, the pursuit ended at the Circle Drive Apartments, where Terry hit 1 of the apartment buildings with the vehicle, he fled into an apartment building and was taken into custody, he was treated at the hospital & was later arraigned in the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 41 year old Darren Moscato of Delhi, was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court Monday. The indictment was unsealed, Count One accused Moscato of attempting to endanger the welfare of a child, the other counts accuse him of Attempted Disseminating of Indecent Material to Minors, Engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a minor with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual activity, and for sending explicit pictures to the minor. Moscato was released to the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, pending a conference on July 24th.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 58 year old Mark Seeley of Walton, was sentenced to 2 years in the County Jail for Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. On September 11, 2022, Seeley, threatened several individuals, the Court issued orders of protection for the victims, Seeley violated the orders of protection multiple times. On May 8th, Seeley agreed to a plea deal in County Court, but on May 31st, State Police were contacted by the victims who had discovered that Seeley posted about the victims on social media. Due to the numerous violations the District Attorney’s Office voided the plea & Seeley was sent to jail.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 51 year old Stacy Coss of Andes for driving while ability is impaired by the use of drugs, and aggravated unlicensed operator. On July 7th, Deputies stopped a motor vehicle in the Town of Andes being operated by Coss, her driving privileges were revoked from a prior DWI and she was operating a motor vehicle in an impaired state. Coss was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Andes court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriffs Deputies received a Trespassing complaint in the Town of Davenport. The investigation revealed that 73 year old George Sydlar had called 911 3 times on July 6th and more than 20 times prior to report similar incidents which were all determined to be unfounded. Deputies arrested Sydlar for falsely reporting an incident, he was released on an appearance ticket to the Town of Davenport court at a later date.
NBT Bancorp announced that it has received regulatory approval to complete the proposed merger of Salisbury Bancorp. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Connecticut State Banking Department both approved the Merger, and NBT received an application waiver from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The Merger is expected to close on August 11, a weekend systems conversion will follow with locations of Salisbury Bank opening as NBT Bank offices on August 14.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that a Bench Warrant issued by the Village of Sidney Court has resulted in the arrest of 55 year old Tina Kerschner of the town of Colchester. Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old Paul Thayer of Cooperstown was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court. Count One of the Indictment alleges that the he attempted to endanger the welfare of a child. Count Two accuses him of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, for allegedly engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a person that he believed to be a 14-year-old child, with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual conduct with him, he traveled to the Village of Walton to meet with that child, but instead was confronted by the adult that had been posing as a 14-year-old child. Walton Police Department conducted a police investigation which resulted in this indictment. Thayer pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail pending a conference on June 26th.

41 year old Steven Baker of Sidney pleaded guilty to 1 count of Animal Cruelty. On May 3, Sidney Police responded to a complaint of animal abuse at 40 River Street in the Village of Sidney, the officer observed an 8-month-old puppy with a gash on its left hind leg. The puppy was treated, Baker admitted that he became upset with the dog and threw a knife at it causing the gash in its hind leg. Baker appeared in Sidney Court today & pleaded guilty to Animal Cruelty, he will be sentenced to 1 year of in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, he will be required to register as on the Animal Abuser Registry, he will be prohibited from owning, possessing, residing with, or having contact with any companion animal. Kweller is the brother of one of the former owners of The Colonial restaurant in downtown Binghamton, he was charged with 3rd degree rape, the Broome County Court decision could be appealed, charges against the other 2, charges against Yaron Kweller and Jordan Rindgen are still pending.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 43 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for his conviction of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child. Between January and August of 2019, Hoyt engaged in at least 2 sexual acts with a child under 13 years old, he was sentenced to 20 years of in jail followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, he was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the State DNA data-bank, he was ordered to pay a $1,000 crime victim’s fee & he must register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a small plane crash near Norwich Sunday afternoon. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene & was the only occupant of the plane, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was the only occupant of the plane. They were pronounced dead the scene. The investigation has been turned over to the National Safety Transportation Board.
The Delaware County DPW announced road work on county Routes 16 and 21 will take place in the coming weeks. Pavement rehabilitation work began today on county Route 21, from at the Walton village line heading north about 6 1/2 miles, that project will be complete by June 30. The department will begin work on county Route 16 on Monday, June 5, starting in Treadwell and progressing to state Route 10 in Fraser. that project should be completed by June 15. Drivers should expect extended delays during this work. Alternate routes are suggested.

Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation released its report on the death of Roger Lynch on August 6, 2021 in Franklin, which included review of radio transmissions, body-worn camera footage, and interviews. The investigation determined that a prosecutor would not be able to disprove justification beyond a reasonable doubt at trial & criminal charges against the State Trooper who shot Lynch are not warranted. On the evening of August 5th, members of several police agencies responded to a residence on Bob Holloway Road in Delhi, following reports that an individual had been shot, they learned that Lynch had shot multiple times at 1of the residents before driving away, Lynch was found at his house, he came out with a gun aimed under his chin. When the sergeant told him not to shoot himself, Lynch then leveled his shotgun on his shoulder and took aim at a trooper & 1 of the troopers fired his rifle at Lynch, who fell back into the house, where he was pronounced dead.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Clarence Vanier of Laurens after a search warrant was executed at a residence in the Town of Laurens. Vanier was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for a Hallucinogen, among other charges. Deputies were assisting the Oneonta Police Department with a search warrant at which time a large amount of Psilocybin mushrooms were located in the residence. Vanier was being held at the Otsego County Jail pending Central Arraignment.

32 year-old Courtni Baker of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court today to charges relating to a February 15th accident, where Baker struck 14-year-old Anielle “AK” McEwan-Lomnicki as she was walking home from Sidney middle school. 49-year-old Hasaan Coston of Binghamton was found guilty in Broome County Court on 3 felony drug possession charges related to two separate raids by members of Broome County's Special Investigations Unit Task Force. Officers executed the 1st search warrant on July 29, 2021, and recovered cocaine, crack cocaine, $1200 cash and drug paraphernalia, at the 2nd search on August 4, 2022, in Endicott, officers seized more cocaine, crack cocaine and $1260 cash, Coston could face over 25 years in jail upon sentencing later this year.

The State Department of Health today issued updated advisories for the consumption of fish from waterbodies in the State. The most notable update this year is the release of a new Catskill Region advisory, which includes the Cannonsville & Pepacton reservoirs in Delaware County, The Advisory is for a “Sensitive population”, which includes people who may bear children and children under 15; the fish in question include rainbow, brook & brown trout. Investigators recovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, pills and over $8300 cash from drug sales, assault rifles and items used to prepare drugs from sale. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 people following a complaint from the Family Dollar in Unadilla. 22 year old Brian Mahar of Worcester was charged with criminal possession of methamphetamines & criminal possession of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly possessing Methamphetamine and fentanyl. The Sheriff's Office also arrested 46 year old Mandy Keator of Otego for Criminal Possession Methamphetamine & Petty Larceny, Keator allegedly possessed Methamphetamine, both are being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court action.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 73 year old Robert Orlando of Hartwick for Criminal Sexual Act, Dissemination of indecent material or a minor, Obscenity & Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Orlando is accused of having sexual contact with a minor, that he met online. Orlando allegedly sent inappropriate messages and photographs to the minor and received the same content from the minor. Orlando traveled to Utica where he picked up the minor and returned to his residence in the Town of Hartwick where sexual activity occurred. Investigators from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant of the defendant’s residence where evidence was secured and he was taken in to custody, he was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

Attorney General Letitia James today secured agreements from the nation's largest insulin manufacturers to cap the price of insulin at $35 per monthly prescription for uninsured New Yorkers for 5 years. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Tyler Rose of Exeter for 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Harassment among other charges, Deputies were dispatched to the West Exeter Fire Department after fire personnel located an adult victim with serious physical injuries, who was transported to Bassett Hospital with multiple fractures, lacerations and contusions. The investigation revealed that the victim was imprisoned at Rose's residence for days while subjected to continued assaults with a variety of tools and implements.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Tyler Rose of Exeter for 1st, 2nd & 3rd degree Assault, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Harassment among other charges, Deputies were dispatched to the West Exeter Fire Department after fire personnel located an adult victim with serious physical injuries, who was transported to Bassett Hospital with multiple fractures, lacerations and contusions. The investigation revealed that the victim was imprisoned at Rose's residence for days while subjected to continued assaults with a variety of tools and implements.

The Commissioners of the Delaware County Board of Elections will hold a public meeting at their offices at 97 Main Street, Suite 5, in Delhi as 12:00 Noon. The Commissioners are expected to make a final determination on the validity of the petition for District Attorney candidate Joe Ermeti, who is seeking the Republican Party nomination, if his petition is approved, he will face acting DA Shawn Smith in a Republican Party Primary on June 27th.

State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to "Microsoft" support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

The Trial of Nauman Hussain starts today in connection with the fatal crash of Hussain's Prestige Limo that crashed in Schoharie, killing 20 people in October 2018. Hussain is facing 20 counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, Jury Selection began this afternoon in Schoharie County Court.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force raided 41 Doubleday Street on Tuesday. Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.
On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain's BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James' office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Tiger Gould of Unadilla following a warrant investigation for the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Gould was charged with Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, he was issued an appearance ticket in the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date, he was turned over to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on the Bench Warrant.
The Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Kyle Babola of Johnson City pleaded guilty for killing Scott Groover with a machete in 2021. Babola took a plea deal of 20 years to life before the trial could start, the maximum sentence could have been 25 years to life in prison.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced that potential public transportation options for Delaware County will be the topic of a presentation on May 16 at 11:00 am in the Meeting Room of the Delaware County Business Center at 5 ½ Main Street in Delhi. The Chamber has been working with County and State officials, private transportation operators, healthcare and human service organizations, regional employers, and national transportation associations on a 7-month study of public transit options. The State Labor Department released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.2% in February to 4.1% in March. Locally, Chenango County had 3.5%, Delaware County 3.9% and Otsego County 3.8% unemploment in March.

During Earth Week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced 8 new large-scale renewable energy infrastructure projects have been completed, which should support the creation of nearly 1,800 jobs and spurred nearly $800 million in private investment, while contributing nearly $70 million to their host communities for of school, town, and county payments. The recently completed projects include Puckett Solar of Greene in Chenango County, which is a 20 MegaWatt solar facility developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy.

Ostrander pleaded not guilty to all 5 counts, & he was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail pending future court action.
