Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle speeding recently at 85-mph in the 40mph zone, while road conditions were poor and snowplows were out clearing snow. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Deputies identified the driver as 21-year-old Scott Barnhart of Walton, he was charged with one count of Reckless driving, speeding and other lesser charges, Barnhart was released and was directed to appear in the Town Davenport Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 59 year old Robert Solberg of Milford Saturday, for Criminal Contempt. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Solberg following an investigation into a violation of a temporary order of protection and a trespassing complaint, where he was found to have entered the residence of the protected party, he was turned over to the Correctional Facility to await arraignment. State Police and the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Carol Bishop & 34 year old Timothy Bishop of Laurens following an investigation into an animal cruelty complaint. At the conclusion of the investigation, both were charged with 14 counts each for torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance, they were processed & released on appearance tickets for the Town of Laurens Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old William Killenberger of East Worcester for Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Harassment, Endangering the welfare of a child & resisting Arrest following an investigation into a domestic dispute in East Worcester. Killenberger is accused of damaging property during the course of the dispute and then fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. An arrest warrant was applied for and he was located, While attempting to take the suspect into custody, he began fighting with Deputies and was subsequently taken into custody, he was processed and later turned over to the Otsego County Jail for arraignment.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating the death of an inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility. Body cam footage shows Brooks was assaulted by multiple State Corrections Officers within the Infirmary Building at the Marcy Correctional Facility, Brooks was transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital on Dec. 10, where he was pronounced dead, a dozen corrections officers and a nurse are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the death. An autopsy of Brooks was performed by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office on December 11.

The State Department of Labor released local unemployment rates for November, The State’s unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in November, locally, Chenango Country reported 3% unemployment, Delaware Country registered 3.4% and Otsego County had 3.3% unemployment in November.
Delaware Opportunities and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce provided Christmas gifts to Delaware County children in need this month, Over 800 children from nearly 300 families benefited from this collaborative effort this year.
The Chenango Arts Council has been awarded at $40,000 Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The State Council has awarded $82 million this year to 509 artists and 1,497 organizations across the state.

Otsego County District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing of Jamesan Conville of Pennsylvania. Conville was charged with reckless endangerment for driving off with an Otsego County Deputy partially inside of his car and dragged the deputy 300 feet. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the Town of Milford after Conville was clocked at about 100 miles an hour. Conville is expected to serve between 1 to 4 years in state prison.
Friends of Recovery Dedicated to Others celebrated the re-opening of its new recovery center, “The Turning Point of Delaware County” on Friday. The new facility provides a new and improved space for people struggling with substance abuse and addiction. The building additionally has a private entrance to keep confidentiality for patients going to the downtown Delhi location.

The Norwich Police Department concluded an investigation into the sale of narcotics yesterday, they arrested 59 year old John Williams of Edmeston on 3 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Williams is accused of possessing Methamphetamine, Crack Cocaine & Fentanyl, plus cash from suspected drug sales, Williams was arraigned at Chenango County Court and is being held wihout Bail, pending further court appearances.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old David Zimmer of Whitney Point following a high speed chase from Binghamton, onto I-88 into the Town of Fenton. on Tuesday,, a traffic stop was attempted on Zimmer, who's vehicle matched the description from an incident in Johnson city earlier. Zimmer was eventually stopped when his vehicle became disabled from a spike strip deployed by deputies & State Troopers. Zimmer faces 2 felony charges, 4 misdemeanors and 31 traffic violations following the high-speed pursuit, he was taken into custody, K9 units found cocaine in Zimmer's Vehicle, he was arraigned at & remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that the District Attorney’s Office will no longer participate in the Delaware County Drug Court Program. Smith stated that the motivation behind the creation of Drug Court was noble, to help low level, non-violent, drug users obtain the treatment they needed, but the State’s Bail Reform and Discovery Reform, has led to the portion of the population the program was meant to help, are no longer entering the criminal justice system. WCDO News will interview Smith for more on this story next week.
Binghamton Police responded to the report Thursday morning of an bomb threat at the State Office Building, at the 17th floor Attorney General’s office. A K9 Unit along with the Endicott Police Bomb Squad searched the office and did not find a bomb. The building has reopened, the investigation is continuing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Binghamton Police Detectives at 607-772-7080.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest 31 year old inmate Rafael Frias for attempted assault. On October 15th, Investigators with the Delaware County Sheriffs Office received a complaint from the Correctional Facility of an assault between 2 inmates, they arrested Frias, he was arraigned at the Delaware County Centralized Arraignment Court, and was remanded back to the custody of Correctional Facility on other unrelated charges.
The State DEC is investigating the possibility of White Tail Deer in New York State possibly suffering from Chronic Wasting disease, after 1 deer in Herkimer County tested positive for the fatal disease last month. The DEC Statement said that the disease is always fatal, and can spread through certain Deer & Moose populations, they will continue to monitor as hunting season approaches.
Delaware County officials remind area residents that the burn ban is still in effect until further notice, the dry ground & low water levels could be conducive to rapidly spreading wild fire, Delaware County is still one of 15 counties under a state Drought watch.

The results are in for yesterday's Election day, in the U.S. Senate race for New York, Incumbent Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand wins easily, in the U.S. House New York District 19, Josh Riley appears to have won a tight race over Marc Molinaro, in the State Senate District 51 race, Republican Incumbent Peter Oberacker wins by about 20% over Democrat Michele Frazier, in the local State Assembly Races, in the 121 District, Joe Angelino received double the vote over Vicki Davis, in the State Assembly 102nd District, Incumbent Republican Chris Tague wins by a substantial margin over Janet Tweed, and in the 122nd District, Brian Miller wins by a large margin over Democrat Adrienne Martini. in the Chenango County Court race, Republican Diane DeStefano wins easily over Democrat Lisa Natoli, and New Yorkers easily passed the STATE PROPOSITION to add an amendment to protect against unequal treatment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people after a 3-month investigation into fraud, forgery and identity theft. In August, Deputies received a complaint in regard to stolen funds from multiple accounts, multiple unknown charges and new accounts being opened without consent. Deputies, Sidney Police & State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney's Office arrested 44 year old Lori Brooks of Sidney, 27 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla & 37 year old Matthew Walsh of Sidney on a variety of charges including Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & criminal possession of stolen property, Brooks was issued an appearance ticket and turned over to State Police for an outstanding warrant & was then turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment. Hunt was being held at the Otsego County Jail on an unrelated charge, he was processed & was brought back to the Otsego County Jail, Walsh was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, he will appear at the Village of Sidney Court at a later date, the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
A Delaware County Correction Officer discovered an incarcerated individual unresponsive in a cell Tuesday, personnel began conducting lifesaving measures, and emergency medical services were called. Following extensive efforts, lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, and the incarcerated individual was pronounced dead at the Delaware County Corrections Facility by a Delaware County Medical Examiner. The case was referred to the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the New York State Commission of Correction for external review.

State Police responded at about 6:45 Tuesday Morning to a fatal crash on County Highway 29 in the town of Harpersfield. The operator of the vehicle was traveling westbound when for an unknown reason left the roadway and struck a tree head on. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames. State police stated that The operator and only occupant did not survive, he has been identified as 25 year old Cameron Gaffi, of Franklin, New Jersey.
45 year old Andre Gilliam of the Town of Chenango was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & criminally using drug paraphenalia. Gilliam faces up to 8 years in State Prison followed by 3 years of post-release supervision at sentencing. On November 7, 2023, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at 174 ½ Castle Creek Road, they seized fentanyl, a cutting agent, a digital scale and nearly $4000 in cash from suspected drug sales.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Jacob Bassett of Morris following an investigation into a series of sexual assaults. An investigation revealed that on several different occasions in multiple locations in Otsego County, Bassett initiated several forms of sexual contact with a victim beginning when the victim was under the age of seventeen. Bassett was charged with 3 counts of 1st degree Rape, 2 counts of 3rd degree Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail to await arraignment, the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, recommended bail of $15,000 cash, $15,000 credit card and $150,000 bond, An order of protection was requested to be issued for the victim.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 69 year old Eric Stingle of Oneonta following an investigation of a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Oneonta. Stingle was charged with Harassment, Menacing, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Imprisonment & Criminal Mischief, he was located at his residence and was taken into custody without incident, he was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division and U.S. Marshals located a 17-year-old female of Binghamton, who was wanted for Attempted Murder in relation to a recent shooting in the City of Binghamton. The juvenile fugitive was tracked to locations on Floral Ave. and Chelsea Square in the City of Binghamton, The Southern Tier SWAT team was deployed, executing a search warrant & they took the juvenile into custody, she was turned over to the City of Binghamton Police to be processed on the Attempted Murder charge, she will be arraigned and turned over to the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office.

A social Media Threat against the Sidney & Walton Central School District was posted on Instagram and Facebook, Sidney Superintendent Eben Bullock told WCDO News that 4 were quickly identified, placed into a safe space & their parents were contacted, they also coordinated with the Sidney Police Department. Sidney Police stated that there was no credible information or evidence to support the threat being real & they remained at the school until dismissal, they are back at the Sidney District again today. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Antonio Almovdovar of Oneonta on multiple charges for Assaulting and throwing feces on Correction Officers. Almovdovar was charged with Assault, Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate, on September 17th Almovdovar ignored lawful commands by corrections officers to cease his actions, he became combative and during a struggle, a corrections officer sustained an injury that required medical treatment at Bassett Hospital, the following morning, he began to again become disorderly and proceeded to throw bodily fluids on to another corrections officer, After consulting with the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, a bail recommendation of $10,000 cash, $10,000 credit card and $100,000 surety bond was requested.

Garnier was arraigned at Delhi Town Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional facility without bail.
A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4-count indictment against 41 year old Darcee Lewis of Oxford, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2 counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 14th, a search warrant was executed by the Village of Sidney Police Based on information provided by State Parole Officers, they located narcotics and drug paraphernalia, Lewis is accused of possessing methamphetamine, fentanyl with intent to sell, as well as scales, loaded needles, and packaging materials. Lewis was arraigned & was remanded on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford woman for animal cruelty after Deputies responded to County Highway 35 in the Town of Milford for a welfare check. Bachanas was charged with Abandonment of Animals, Failure to provide proper sustenance, Deputies located several animals abandoned, malnourished and mistreated. 2 emaciated dogs in critical condition were transported to Cornell University animal hospital. A 3rd dog was located deceased as well as a turkey and a quail. 2 quail were rescued for foster and rehabilitation. The Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University and Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation. Bachanas was issued appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Paul Callahan of Greene for Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors and Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Callahan was arrested after an investigation determined he sent several nude photos of himself to a decoy 14-year-old male victim’s online account. Callahan was released on an appearance ticket for the above charges and is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.
41 year old James Fuller of Fulton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Burglary and was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in state prison. Fuller unlawfully entered a barn located on State Highway 10 in the Town of Harpersfield, with the intent to commit a crime, he was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, as a result of being found in possession of a bicycle. Fuller was also required to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA Data Bank and to pay fines and surcharges. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.
The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of the following overnight lane closures along Interstate 81 in the Town of Dickinson, Broome County, to facilitate pavement repairs. Beginning tonight at 8:00 PM, I-81 northbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and the I- 88 interchange. All lanes are expected to reopen Thursday Morning. Also at 8:00 PM Thursday, I-81 southbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and I-88 interchange, the lanes will re-open Friday Morning.

State Police & the Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that a Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted 27 year old James Christ Jr. of Deposit for 2nd degree Murder, among other charges in connection with the death of a 3 year old child. The child’s mother, Marielys Ramos of Unadilla has been indicted on Reckless Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both are currently at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment. State Police arrested Christ in May, after they were dispatched to Fair Street in Deposit for the report of an unresponsive child, it was determined that Christ recklessly caused the death of the child.
State Police initiated a traffic stop on I-81 north in Cortlandville Sunday Night after observing a vehicle that did not have its rear taillights illuminated. After an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 110 bricks of heroin, Two containers of cannabis wax, cannabis & drug paraphernalia. Troopers arrested 25 year old Kenneth Williams of Syracuse, NY and 22 year old Kyrell Robinson of Syracuse, Both were charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, both were processed and transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that 20 year old Joseph VanBlarcom of Margaretville was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury Thursday, for Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, VanBlarcom is accused of driving in the Village of Fleischmanns on July 29, he threw objects out the window and swerved his vehicle at 3 Jewish men walking along Main Street, and for yelling bias obscenities regarding the men’s religion, he was released in his own recognizance & is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on August 26th.
39 year old Joshua Smallze of Binghamton has been sentenced to 9 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Smallze was convicted of Burglary and Criminal Mischief, by a Broome County Jury in May. Smallze forcefully entered 75 Prospect Street in the City of Binghamton on January 22, 2023, where he assaulted the resident, caused property damage to the victim’s residence by hurling a brick through a window.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Stanley Kingston of Albany, following a traffic stop on July 26, in the Town of Oneonta. Kingston was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, DWI, with a previous conviction within 10 years, 2 counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, driving a vehicle without Ignition Interlock Device, among other charges, Kingston had a revoked license, he was released with appearance tickets for Oneonta Town court at a later date.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that 29 year old Michael Bredin on the Town of Maryland, has been charged with 2nd degree Arson by the State Police & Otsego County District Attorney's Office. On March 31st, the Schenevus Fire Department, along with Oneonta City Firefighters, responded to a blaze at an apartment house on State Route 7, the fire was quickly knocked down, and investigators determined that the fire was deliberately set. Bredin was arraigned Friday & faces court action at a later date.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Delaware Counties recently. 11 businesses were checked for compliance, with 1 person charged with Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor, after selling alcohol to person under the age of 21, at Betty Beavers Fuel Stop on County Road 48 in the town of Otego. The businesses that passed were in Oneonta, Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, Otego, & Davenport. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Web Presence Seminar for Business owners and non-profit organization leaders to review their digital marketing efforts. Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 38 year old Joshua Smallze of Binghamton was found guilty of 1st degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief by a Broome County Jury. Smallze forcefully entered 75 Prospect Street in Binghamton on January 22, 2023, where he assaulted the resident, & threw a brick through a window, Smallze is scheduled to appear back in court for sentencing on August 1, he will face a sentence between 5 and 25 years in New York State Prison.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Quincy Lamoree of Central Bridge for failing to update the State Sex Offender Registry of a change in address. Lamoree had moved from a residence in the Town of Worcester to a location in Schoharie County and failed to notify the Sex Offender Registry of the change, he was located Tuesday by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office on an active arrest warrant, he was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment
Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 58 year old Joy LaBarr of Binghamton woman, was sentenced to pay full restitution of $32,000 and serve five years' probation for a guilty plea for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. LaBarr pleaded guilty for stealing nearly $32,000 in New York State pension payments intended for her deceased father-in-law Jack Burnett, who retired in 2006 from the Binghamton Housing Authority, payments should have stopped upon his death in December 2020, No one from his family reported his passing.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney was sentenced to 2 and ½ years in prison and 1 year of post-release supervision In court on Monday. Baker was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, after having admitted to possessing methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney on September 11, 2023. Baker was also ordered to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State DNA data bank and to pay fines and surcharges, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin serving his sentence.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Joshua Hunt of Unadilla for failure to notify a Change of Address, as stipulated by the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Hunt is accused of relocating from his residence in the Town of Unadilla and did not make the proper notifications to the Sex Offender Registry, an arrest warrant was applied for and issued by the Town of Middlefield Court, Hunt was located by the Sidney Police Department and turned over to deputies on the warrant. Hunt was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail, or $10,000 bond.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is participating in the "No Empty Chair" campaign, this week. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies statewide are stepping up their enforcement near area high schools. These patrols will focus on a different traffic safety threat each day of the week including cell phone use and texting while driving, speeding in school zones, seat belts and child restraints, graduated driver license provisions and underage drinking and impaired driving. Law Enforcement from all over attended the funeral for Onondaga County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Hoosock, was being held today in Syracuse, Lieutenant Hoosock was killed by gunfire along with Syracuse Police officer Michael Jensen on April 14th in Liverpool. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Jeremy Stimpson of Oneonta for Bail Jumping and on 2 Bench Warrants. Stimpson repeatedly failed to appear for court appearances for criminal cases in the Town of Otego and Town of Milford Courts, both courts issued bench warrants, Stimpson was located in the City of Oneonta by deputies and members of the Oneonta Police Department, he was processed and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $1,500 cash, $1,500 credit card, or $10,500 bond bail recommendations.

33 year old Boyd Fenton was sentenced to to 7-15 years in prison, for setting fire to the horse barn at Tioga Downs on November 9th 2023. Fenton was sentenced in Tioga County Court on Friday, 30 racehorses died in the fire and a trainer was hurt when they tried to rescue horses from the flames.
14 individuals were arrested on charges ranging from graffiti, stealing a law enforcement body camera and disorderly conduct to obstruction and resisting arrest at the 4th annual “Smoke Weed Outside the Binghamton Police Station” event in downtown Binghamton. On Saturday, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office assisted Binghamton Police Department in ensuring a safe public gathering on Hawley Street in front of Government Plaza. Some attendees began scrawling graffiti, blocking the flow of traffic on Hawley Street, Police began arresting participants for Obstructing Government Administration, disorderly conduct, petty larceny for stealing a law enforcement body camera and resisting arrest, all were processed and released on appearance tickets for the City of Binghamton Court.
Oneida County District Attorney's office & State Police announced that former Utica School Superintendent Bruce Karam was sentenced to pay $11,549 back to the Utica school district for the resources improperly diverted, he was ordered to serve 5 years probation and perform 250 hours of community service, he was also ordered to pay $150,000 by May 17, representing a reduction in his pension earnings from the date of his crime until his termination.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 40 year old Carheem Felton of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 9 years in New York State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a weapon. On the 2nd of August 2022, Felton opened fire at another individual at the Northside Deli on Chenango Street in Binghamton. The Binghamton Police Department investigated the shooting and located Felton fleeing the scene while still in possession of the firearm.
State Police executed a search warrant on Center Street in the town of Oneonta relative to a child pornography investigation. An investigation determined that a 17-year-old at the residence obtained numerous images of child pornography on a cell phone, the suspect was arraigned in Otsego County Youth Part Court and released on charges of Possessing and Promoting a Child Sexual Performance. The investigation is ongoing.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 45 year old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge pleaded guilty to 1 Count of Aggravated Family Offense in Delaware County Court Monday. Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 28 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez appeared in Delaware County Court for an arraignment on drug related charges, she pleaded guilt after she admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, she intended to sell. Lopez will be sentenced to 6.5 years in state prison, and 2 years of post-release supervision on June 10th.
38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, on one count of Assault, On February 20, Skeete allegedly caused physical injury to another inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was being held as a federal inmate for violating the terms of his post-release supervision. Skeete can face up to 7 years in state prison.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Elizabeth Gajdzis of New Berlin for 2nd degree Burglary, 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny, Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. On March 30th, The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the Town of New Berlin. Gajdzis is accused of stealing the vehicle, On April 1, she contacted a member of the Detectives Division regarding a separate matter and agreed to meet the Detective, she was arrested, was processed, arraigned & was remanded back to the correctional on cash bail and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.
Oneonta Police Department responded last night to investigate a reported gunshot wound victim at Fox Hospital's emergency room. Officers learned that a 51-year-old male victim was transported by a 3rd party in a private vehicle, which left the scene prior to the arrival of police. The victim stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet. Police searched the location & no evidence was found. Hospital Security Staff were able to provide surveillance video of the vehicle and individual dropping the victim off at the hospital. The Binghamton Police Department arrested a 17-year-old from Johnson City for leaving the scene of a pedestrian hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon. Binghamton Police responded at Court and Water streets for a report of a person who was crossing the road being struck by a vehicle, the victim was a 45 year old man from Binghamton, He was transported to an area hospital w& was in critical condition. Detectives found the suspect and their vehicle later, he was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket.

40 year old Jesse Barnum of Endicott was arrested in Pennsylvania on multiple felony charges for failing to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act. Barnum was found hiding under a blanket in the rear of a van, he was arrested and extradited to appear in Broome County and Town of Union courts. On Friday, April 1, 2024, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Warrants Division and the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force traveled to Scranton area, Barnum was wanted 2 separate counts of Failure to Register Under the Sex Offender Registration Act, plus Bail Jumping.
Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 60 year old Eva Witteman of Binghamton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. On February 21, 2023, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy, conducted a welfare check of a vehicle which appeared to be broke down on State Highway 17 in Hancock, Witteman had a suspended license, & was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, & she possessed 12 grams of methamphetamine. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 57 year old Tracy Elderkin of Sidney for operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license. Deputies were notified last Thursday that Elderkin had driven to the Delaware County Probation Department for a scheduled meeting with a revoked driver’s license. Deputies charged Elderkin with vehicle and traffic misdemeanors of, aggravated unlicensed operation in the 2nd degree, operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license, as well as a traffic violation for, unlicensed operator. Elderkin was subsequently released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Robert Powell of Hamden following a traffic stop in the Town of Bovina. A County Deputy observed a vehicle speeding last Wednesday on County Highway 6 in the Town of Bovina, a traffic stop was conducted and Powell was found to be driving with his driving privileges suspended, he was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Unlicensed Operator and Speeding. On April 18, 2023, Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 57 Miriam Street in Johnson City where McCarden was found to be in possession of weapons, McCarden will be sentenced to 5 years in New York State Prison and 5 years post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for July 24th in Broome County Court.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 23 year old Kobe Kimble of Oneonta on an outstanding arrest warrant for Criminal Mischief, Deputies located and arrested him and turned him over to the Delhi Police Department for processing.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols responded to reports of suspicious activity in and around an apartment building in the Town of Union Friday. The investigation revealed that 31 year old Miguel Martinez had broken into a second-floor apartment through a bedroom window. The noises alerted a downstairs neighbor, who called 911. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols & State Police located Martinez nearby and placed him in custody without incident, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary & was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement were informed of the arrest of the undocumented Martinez and will coordinate a transfer of custody at a later date.

The Norwich City Police Department has concluded the investigation into the armed robbery on May 23, 2023, at Holt’s Hemp Emporium. Varun Maharajh of Trinidad, also known as Kelvin Sihgh, is in Federal Custody in Florida, he was taken into custody on separate federal charges in November by the Indian River Sheriff’s Office, after a high-speed chase, he was charged with 7 counts in a federal indictment that alleges he knowingly attempted to export firearms and ammunition to the United Kingdom, as well as illegally and unlawfully possessing numerous firearms and ammunition. The Norwich Police Department is working with the Chenango County District Attorney’s and criminal charges are expected to be filed against Maharajh in the near future.
The State Department of Health announced the 3rd case of measles in 2024, The case was identified in a patient who resides in Nassau County and was confirmed at the Department's Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The State Health Department is closely monitoring this case, along with Nassau County health officials, and have alerted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first 2 cases were reported in New York City.

48-year-old Justin Valk of Davenport was convicted of 2nd degree Burglary in Delaware County Court. Valk was scheduled for a jury trial but at a pre-trial conference, he pleaded guilty. Valk admitted that he went to a seasonal home in Harpersfield, with other co-defendants & the co-defendants entered the home and committed larceny. Valk will be sentenced to 6 years in state prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, he was sent back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing. Valk still faces a 2nd indictment involving the death of his wife, those charges are not included in this case.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 35 year old Ashley Williams of Laurens on multiple counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Abandonment of Animals & Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals. On February 19th a search warrant was executed which lead to the discovery of 5 deceased dogs in trash bags. Additionally, 5 live canines were seized & were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA for medical attention. The deceased dogs were transported to the Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine, it was determined that they starved to death and were partially cannibalized by the living dogs. Williams was found in Oneonta, where city police officers and Otsego County probation officers took the her in to custody, she was transferred to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. Additional charges are pending.
Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Jeffrey Lane of Rochester for allegedly stealing an Uber, fleeing police and fighting with officers. Deputies responded Sunday to a report of a vehicle theft in the Town of Dickinson, where Lane was in the parking lot of Helio Health waiting for EMS to arrive, he became impatient, struck an arriving Uber driver & and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. Patrols located Lane in Binghamton, he had pulled to the side of the road, then sped off as the deputy approached the vehicle, Lane lost control, drove onto the sidewalk, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, he was apprehended after a brief struggle & was taken into custody. Lane was taken to Central Arraignment & was charged with Robbery, Grand Larceny, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle & Resisting Arrest, more charges from other jurisdictions are pending.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 48 year old Shelly King of Harpursville for DWI ollowing an accident on Saturday March 9th on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. Deputies arrived and observed that a vehicle had left the roadway, struck an earth embankment before coming to rest in a large ditch. Deputies made contact with King, who was charged she was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

NYSEG Crews responded to power outages around Chenango County this morning, with over 4700 customers without power, the majority of those were in the City & Town of Norwich, and the issue was attributed to a substation, the Norwich City School District was closed today.

Matthew Caletka of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on April 19, 2023, The Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 9 Sherwood Avenue in Binghamton. Caletka was found to be in possession of over 2 ounces of Methamphetamine, he admitted to possession with the intent to sell. Caletka will be sentenced to 3.5 years in State Prison and 2 years post-release supervision when sentenced on April 26th. .
Cortland County Deputies were attempting service at 171 Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland, Monday, they were confronted at the door by a male subject with gun, and the Cortland City Police Department and State Police responded to assist. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to deescalate the situation and the subject fired upon the Officers. Gunfire was exchanged within the residence and the subject was struck, he was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he currently remains in stable condition. No Officers were hurt and the State Police have assumed control of the investigation.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Shaun Putrino on an outstanding warrant for criminal mischief, he is described as a white male, 6'2" 160 pounds with hazel eyes & & brown hair. NBT Bancorp announced that effective May 21st, John Watt will step down as NBT’s President and Chief Executive Officer. A Broome County Jury found Matthew Devaul of Binghamton, guilty of 3rd degree Burglary, and Criminal Mischief, he faces up to 7 years in New York State Prison. On November 17, 2022, Devaul unlawfully entered a residence in Binghamton and cut copper piping from the home, when confronted by the homeowner, Devaul fled the residence. Devaul refused to return to court while the jury deliberated & a warrant was issued for his arrest, and a sentencing date will be set once Devaul is located.
State Police are continuing to search for Gabrielle Becker who went missing from Roxbury last November. Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that a Broome County jury found Jerome Adams of Binghamton, guilty of Criminal Contempt. On March 22, 2023 Adams violated an order of protection that was issued just 5 days earlier, by going to the home of the protected party. During the trial, Adams also admitted that he had previously been convicted of Criminal Contempt in 2018, he faces up to 2-4 years in New York State prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 26 in Broome County Court.
The Community Foundation for South Central New York has awarded a record-breaking $3.3 million in grants to students, non-profit organizations, municipalities and school districts in Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties. A wide-variety of organizations received support for projects ranging from capital improvements to educational programming. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 62 year old Bert Mullineaux of Walton on January 9th. Deputies were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on Bobs Brook Road in the Town of Tompkins, Deputies determined that Mullineaux's driving privileges are revoked for DWI since 2006, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, Moving from a lane Unsafely, and Speed not reasonable and Prudent, he will appear in Tompkins Town Court at a later date to answer those charges.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Natalie Petruch of Andes following an investigation of an accident on January 18th on Arbuckle Hollow Road in Delhi. Petruch was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while intoxicated, moving from a lane unsafely, operating a vehicle with a BAC above .08% , she was released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 22 year old Kaleb Weinmuller of Morris, for Rape, Criminal Sexual Act and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a sexual abuse complaint in the Village of Oxford, where it was discovered that Weinmuller was 21 years old & performed sexual acts with a minor. Weinmuller was arrested and arraigned in the Village of Oxford Court, he was remanded on $25,000 cash bail & was transported back to Broome County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held on other charges.
An Otsego County ambulance was at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on I-88 Sunday in Schenevus when the ambulance was struck by a passing vehicle. The ambulance was parked on the shoulder of the roadway with its Emergency lighting activated. The crew was treating a patient from a previous accident in the rear of the ambulance when they were struck. Both providers were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Frank Mazepa of Morris on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance. On January 8, Deputies assisted the SUNY Delhi Police Department on a traffic stop in the Village of Delhi, it was determined that the passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin. Mazepa was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Delhi court at a later date.
The Broome County district Attorney's Office announced that on January 12th, in Broome County Court, just prior to trial, Craig Brigham of the Town of Maine, pleaded guilty to felony Attempted Robbery. On August 1st, 2022, Brigham entered the Vestal Walmart selected a backpack and miscellaneous merchandise. When an employee attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise, Brigham pulled out a small aerosol can and threatened to pepper spray the employee. Brigham will be sentenced in Broome County Court on April 12th to 1.5 to 3 years at a state prison.
