The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that Scammers are impersonating Sheriff’s detectives and deputies in an effort to solicit money and gift cards from unsuspecting victims. Residents are reminded not to provide credit card or other payment information over the phone to anyone claiming to be law enforcement. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several new reports from residents who received phone calls from individuals pretending to be detectives or deputies of the BCSO. where the scammers claim that the Residents missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone, no matter what the scammer says. if you receive a scam phone call, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.
Assemblyman Joseph Angelino will unveil the signage for the newly named 1st Lieutenant Stephen Doane Bridge spanning the West Branch of the Delaware River in Walton, Doane's actions saved the lives of his fellow soldiers at the cost of his own life. The unveiling will be at the Walton Veterans Plaza at 171 Delaware Street in Walton on Thursday, July 13th, at 11:00 am.

Carey said that this is the 1st Carnival of Sales with all of the activities scheduled, like they did prior to the COVID 19 pandemic, events run from 9:00 AM to 4 PM around the village of Unadilla.
State Troopers that are trained as child car seat technicians will be conducting 2 events this weekend to check the safety of child safety seats. Troopers will be available at Glimmerglass State Park Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM & Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Chenango Fire Company at 86 Castle Creek Road, Binghamton. Appointments are not required but are suggested by calling 561-7604.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested of 32 year old Darin Wignall of Binghamton, On the morning of June 29th, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock, Wignall was found to have been operating a motor vehicle on a public highway while his driver's license had been suspended 14 times. Wignall was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle & Uninspected Motor Vehicle, he was released with an appearance ticket for Town of Hancock Court at a later date.

Over the past 24 hours, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from residents who received phone calls from individuals pretending to be detectives or deputies of the BCSO. Residents were informed that they had missed their court appearances and were threatened with warrants for arrest or thousands of dollars in fines, the scammer will request payment in the form of credit card information or other means. Residents are urged to terminate the call and not share any credit card information over the phone, Residents who receive scam calls are urged to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 607-778-1911.
The State Department of Health Bureau of Tobacco Control is releasing 3 new reports that point to the effectiveness of ongoing tobacco control policies adopted in the State over the last few years. The New York Youth Tobacco Survey of middle and high school students, found a decrease in cigarette smoking from 27.1% in 2000 to an all-time low of 2.1% among high school students. A 2nd report showed a decrease from 14.1% to 12.0% between 2017 and 2021. A 3rd report found that flavored vaping product sales and use decreased across the State following the implementation of a ban on flavored vaping products and new limits on the legal age to purchase other products.
The State Board of Elections has announced the release of Online Voter Registration website, which allows State residents to register to vote for the 1st time or update their voter registration, including their name, address or party affiliation. The website is located at elections.ny.gov/OnlineVoterReg. The next election will be the 2023 State and Local Primary which will be held on Tuesday, June 27. Early voting will take place from Saturday, June 17 to Sunday, June 25. The deadline to register to vote for the June Primary is Saturday, June 17.
The Greater Oneonta Historical Society has a display exploring baseball’s Major Leaguers who played for Oneonta teams. “Oneonta – On the Road to Major League Baseball” opened Today and will run through September 1st at the Oneonta History Center, 183 Main Street. The display will feature baseball cards of some of those players, including Frank Malzone, Don Mattingly, Curtis Granderson, and many more. State Police at Sidney responded to a crash involving a tractor trailer and SUV on State Route 8 near County Road 35 in the town of Guilford. An investigation at the scene revealed that the SUV was on State Route 35 when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with a tractor trailer that had been traveling on State Route 8. The driver of the SUV, 27 year old Erin Hazen of South New Berlin was transported to A.O Fox Hospital - Tri Town. A passenger in the vehicle, a 3-year-old male was not injured. The driver of the tractor trailer, 51 year old Sergei Maliutin of Cohoes, did not report any injury.
Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 31 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock was sentenced to a split sentence of six months incarceration in the County Jail and a subsequent five-year period of felony probation supervision for the crime of Criminal Contempt. On July 12, 2022, Wignall violated an Order of Protection, & threatened to kill the victim, he was arrested by Troopers. On April 3, Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge.

On Saturday afternoon, May 27th, 2023, Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton, at 75 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Upon conducting a traffic stop, Snyder's driving privileges were suspended, he was arrested and was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding and failing to surrender NYS License to DMV, Snyder released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Today, the Governor's Office sent state agencies to Assist Local governments IN Sullivan County following Saturday's Tornado in Callicoon Center and Roscoe. Affected residents can call the Disaster Hotline at 800- 339-1759 For Insurance-Related Questions. The State Department of Agriculture and Markets Encourages Affected Farms to Contact U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency to Report Damage. The National Weather Service in Binghamton determined the tornado was an EF2, with maximum winds of 115 mph. The tornado traveled 10 miles with a maximum width of 300 yards.
Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

Packer allegedly choked a victim & several items were also damaged, he left the scene, but was later arrested on a separate outstanding warrant for allegedly trying to use a fake $100 bill to purchase items at a retail establishment. Packer was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Criminal Mischief, Harassment, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Petty Larceny, he is being held in the Otsego County Jail pending arraignment.

The United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District announced that 51 year old Dennis Nelson, who is currently incarcerated in a Federal Prison in Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to mailing Bomb Threats in 2018 and 2019, while incarcerated in State of New York correctional facilities to U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy in Binghamton, then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & and to United States Senator Charles Schumer. Nelson faces a term of imprisonment of 84 months, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years when sentenced.
Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Philip Garcia of Endicott, pleaded guilty to felony Arson. Garcia admitted that on May 2, 2021, in the Village of Endicott, he intentionally damaged property by setting a fire on a stove inside a Hillside Court apartment and the interior of a motor vehicle, by lighting objects inside the car on fire, after a domestic dispute with a 31-year-old female in the Village. The fire in the apartment was put out by residents with minimal smoke damage. The Endicott Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the car fire. The vehicle sustained interior damage. Garcia, who has a criminal history dating back to 1992, will be sentenced to 5 years in New York State prison followed by 2 1/2 years post release supervision on June 9, 2023.
American Association of Retired Persons released a statement applauding 19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro for his stance on Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Molinaro has vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare and oppose cuts to the programs from fellow Congressional republicans, Molinaro said in recent interviews that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are off the table.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the nomination of Dr. James McDonald to serve as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health. Dr. McDonald is originally from Cohoes and received his bachelor's degree from Siena College. He joined the New York State Department of Health in July of 2022, serving as medical director of the Department's Office of Public Health. He later was appointed Interim Director of the Center for Community Health and began serving as Acting Commissioner of Health on January 1 of this year.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Garyn Huntley of Oneonta following an attempt to flee police during a traffic stop on March 20th in the City of Oneonta. Huntley was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle, Failure to Obey Police Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, Speeding among several other charges, he was released on an appearance ticket for Oneonta Court on April 6th.

The United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District announced that 51 year old Dennis Nelson, who is currently incarcerated in a Federal Prison in Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to mailing Bomb Threats in 2018 and 2019, while incarcerated in State of New York correctional facilities to U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy in Binghamton, then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & and to United States Senator Charles Schumer. Nelson faces a term of imprisonment of 84 months, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years when sentenced.
Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Philip Garcia of Endicott, pleaded guilty to felony Arson. Garcia admitted that on May 2, 2021, in the Village of Endicott, he intentionally damaged property by setting a fire on a stove inside a Hillside Court apartment and the interior of a motor vehicle, by lighting objects inside the car on fire, after a domestic dispute with a 31-year-old female in the Village. The fire in the apartment was put out by residents with minimal smoke damage. The Endicott Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the car fire. The vehicle sustained interior damage. Garcia, who has a criminal history dating back to 1992, will be sentenced to 5 years in New York State prison followed by 2 1/2 years post release supervision on June 9, 2023.
American Association of Retired Persons released a statement applauding 19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro for his stance on Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Molinaro has vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare and oppose cuts to the programs from fellow Congressional republicans, Molinaro said in recent interviews that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are off the table.
