The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will host the "Opioid Crisis Enters the Workplace" presentation today in Oneonta. The event will be held at the Foothills Performing Arts Center starting at 8:30 AM until 11:00 AM. Local experts in the field of Drug Addiction, as well as Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig & State Senator Jim Seward will speak at this event.
This Sunday will be the 24th Annual Pit Run in Neawah Park in Oneonta. The race is held each year in memory of State Police Investigator Ricky Parisian, who was killed in the Line of Duty attempting to stop an armed Robbery in Oneonta. The Pit Run begins on the Main Street Bridge between Market and River Streets, passes through the SUNY Oneonta campus and ends at Neahwa Park. The Pit Run also offers a 5K race, a 2-mile stroll, and kids' fun runs. Additional race information can be found at http://pitrun.org.
The Tri-Town Theatre will perform “The Fantasticks” at the Sidney High School Auditorium for 3 performances starting tonight at 7:30 PM, followed by Saturday night at 7:30 PM, and a Sunday afternoon show at 2:00 PM. State Senator Fred Akshar will join Town of Bainbridge Supervisor Dolores Nabinger and local leaders today to officially open the Bainbridge Salt Shed. The $100,000 project will now provide protection from weather and erosion for winter road salt, Previously, road salt had to be stored on the bare ground and covered only by a tarp. Many area fire departments responded to a fire on State Route 7 in the Wells Bridge area this morning. The fire started at about 7:00 AM at a 2 story structure across the road from the former Babcock's, firefighters from Wells Bridge, Unadilla, Franklin, Sidney, Oneonta, West Oneonta & Gilbertsville responded, traffic was detoured off of route 7 while firefighters tackled that fire. The investigation into the cause of the blaze is continuing.
Laurens Firefighters responded yesterday to a fire at a Main Street structure right across the street from their station Thursday afternoon at about 5:30. Firefighters from Laurens, West Laurens, Oneonta, West Oneonta, Mount Vision, Hartwick, Milford and Otego Fire Departments responded, the building contained 4 apartments and room for 2 businesses on the first floor, which were vacant. The building was considered destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
