The Norwich Police Department arrested 54 year old Steven Manwarren of Norwich for 2nd degree Arson, Reckless Endangerment, & criminal Mischief, following the investigation into a fire at 30 Cortland Street at about 12:10 Tuesday morning. Manwarren is accused of intentionally setting a fire in his apartment, residents in other apartments escpaeescaped without injury, Manwarren was arraigned at Norwich City Court and held without bail pending a felony hearing.


Governor Kathy Hochul today announced a substantial year-over-year increase in available emergency home heating aid. HEAP will begin accepting emergency benefit applications starting Monday, January 3rd, for those New Yorkers who have already used up their regular benefit and who are now facing a heating emergency. The winner of the Friends of Rogers 2021 Electric Car Raffle is Keith Thode of Grapevine, Texas, who graduated from Sherburne High School in 1989, he won a 2020 Tesla Model 3 and arrived in New York to pick up the car on December 2nd. Tehan said that Thode visited friends & family around Sherburne & in Albany & then brought the Tesla to Pennsylvania to have it shipped back to Texas, where he has owned electric vehicles since 2014. All proceeds of the Electric Car Raffle, along with Thode's $5,000 donation, benefits Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.


The Bainbridge Coin laundry is donating 100% of their proceeds today to the Delaware Valley Humane Society. This Month, the Humane Society donations are matched as part of the Staffworks Save a Life fundraising campaign, which runs through this Friday, last year the Shelter received $93,000 from that fundraising effort.


Susquehanna SPCA's pop-up thrift shop in the Southside Mall generated $7,359.52 in income, today they presented checks to Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans, Delaware Valley Humane Society, and Heart Of The Catskills Humane Society, for $1,839.88 each.

Almost 211,000 New Yorkers were tested for COVID Monday, with 40,780 testing positive, for a positivity rate of 19.33%. Patient Hospitalizations are up over 6100, Patients in an ICU bed went up by 32 to 945, the number of ventilators went up by 18 to 519, New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 77


Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from NYSDOH to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from NYSDOH and the national guard will support the county operated clinics beginning January 7th. The first location will be held in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River St. from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, on Friday January 7th, , 8th, 28th, and 29th. The second in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, 56 Main St. from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. The third location in Hancock at the Hancock Central School Bus Garage, from 11AM-7PM on January 21st, 22nd, February 11th and 12th. Online pre-registration links will be available next week. The FoxCare Center in Oneonta is holding a COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine clinic today from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. The Vaccinations offered will be the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 1st, 2nd, and booster shots; Flu shots; & Pediatric Pfizer COVID-19 shots. The American Red Cross has Blood drives locally today. A Blood drive will be held in Oneonta at the Elm Park Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut Street from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 PM, another drive will be in West Oneonta from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at 107 Balmoral Drive. Organizers for the Annual "Pit Run" announced that it will be held on October 3rd in Oneonta.  The 28th Pit Run will take place as an in-person event, and they will be adhering to CDC and DOH guidelines as they unfold.  An option to participate virtually will also be available.  Money raised from the event goes for scholarships in the name of Former State Police Investigator Rick Parisian of Oneonta, who died while trying to stop an armed robbery.  More information & registration is available at runsignup.com.


The Sidney Elks Lodge annual Looking Back Car Show & Chicken Barbecue will return this year, on Saturday August 7th behind the Lodge at 104 River Street in Sidney.  Spokesperson Lori Lang explains;

The event will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on August 7th, many area businesses are sponsoring this year's effort, which missed last year due to the COVID shutdown.


The Boards of Directors for the Chenango United Way and the United Way of Delaware and Otsego Counties have unanimously approved the formal affiliation of the 2 agencies today with the intent to complete an application for merger in the first quarter of 2022.  Chenango United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco explains:

Monaco said that the affiliated organization will serve approximately 153,000 people across the 3-county region and will continue to maintain a physical presence in Norwich and Oneonta where its offices are currently located.


State Attorney General Letitia James is proposing a $26 billion agreement to give relief to those struggling with opioid addiction.  James said that the move would resolve claims against some of the nation's biggest opioid distributors over their roles in creating and fueling the opioid epidemic.   New York communities that have been affected will get up to $1.5 billion to fund prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.  The agreement also requires industry changes to end the opioid epidemic and preventing similar situations from occurring in the future.


Governor Cuomo signed legislation raising the age of consent to be married in New York State to 18. This new measure builds upon legislation eliminating child marriage that the Governor signed in 2017 by removing the ability for 17-year-olds to be married with parental and judicial consent.  The legislation takes effect 30 days after becoming law and will apply to licenses issued after that date and marriages that had not been solemnized prior to that date.

Sidney Police Department, with the assistance of the State Police, arrested 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney on a number of charges.  Masi is accused of failing to comply with an officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop on July 4th; Sidney Police followed Masi into the Town of Sidney for several miles before ending the pursuit, which eventually ended with Masi crashing his stolen motorcycle into an SUV in Oneonta.  Masi was charged by Sidney Police with criminal possession of stolen property, Unauthorized use of motor vehicle, Unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, Reckless driving, Aggravated unlicensed operation, plus a number of other charges, Masi was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, he was released on his own recognizance & he was turned over to State Police who took him into custody on an arrest warrant issued from another jurisdiction.


Chenango County Public Health announced their upcoming COVID 19 vaccine schedule.  On Wednesday, 2nd doses for homebound patients will be administered, on July 31st, a 1st dose Pfizer vaccine clinic will be held for 12 years of age and older at the former Label Shopper Store in the South Plaza in Norwich from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.  Chenango County Health Department now has COVID-19 vaccinations in their clinics, appointments are requested at 337-1660, the clinics will be on July 23 & 30th for the J&J Vaccine, August 6th for the Moderna Vaccine & August 13th, 20th & 27th for the Pfizer Vaccine.


Governor Cuomo today announced that 4 mass vaccination sites will cease operations as part of the ongoing downscaling that will allow the State to focus on localized vaccination efforts. As part of the downscaling, the site at Binghamton University will cease operations following vaccinations on July 26.


Assemblyman Joe Angelino is urging voters to participate in an upcoming virtual hearing on legislative redistricting for the Southern Tier and Central New York on Monday, August 9 at 2:00 PM.  The input from these meetings will help the Independent Redistricting Commission in the redrawing of legislative and congressional district lines for 2022.  Those who wish to participate are encouraged to register at: nyirc.gov/meetings.


Starting Monday, August 16th, the Susquehanna SPCA monthly rabies clinics will be first come, first serve, at the new location on State Route 28 Cooperstown.  Pet owners are reminded to bring the pet's previous rabies certificate, so that the veterinarian can look at it to determine if your pet is eligible for a 3-year vaccine.  Rabies clinics will be held on August 16th, September 13th, October 4th, November 15th & December 13th, more information is available at 547-8111 ext. 111.

The Otsego County Office of Emergency Services continues to assess damage to area roads from the flooding over the weekend, Acting Emergency Services Coordinator Victor Jones told WCDO News that some roads are open & passable, but still in rough shape, and they are looking to Albany for help:

Jones said that State Route 51 from the Village of Morris, South near the Butternuts/Morris town line is inaccessible; State Route 51 at the bridge in front of the Gilbertsville Fire Department is down to 1 lane but is open to all traffic.  In the Town of Morris, previously closed roads are passable, In the Town of Pittsfield:  Cobb Road up until the section that runs into 42nd & Broad is open, but the extension from that intersection is not passable.  Hawks Road remains closed.   Otsego County Route 4 from State Route 23 in the Town of Morris to State Route 51 in the Village of Gilbertsville remains closed on the northern end, in the Town of Unadilla, damaged roads are passable.


The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Bradley Cook of Oneonta on a warrant from a sealed indictment, Cook is charged with 2 counts of criminal sexual act for allegedly having sexual contact with the child under the age of 11.  Cook was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $10,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond he returns to court August 13th.

The City of Oneonta Common Council will hold a special Zoom meeting Thursday evening, to discuss & possibly vote on their Police reform & Reinvention plan.  The Plan is posted on the City’s website.

Norwich Police & State Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a sexual assault suspect.  On March 23rd, an individual was attacked at around 2:30 PM while walking along the railroad tracks downtown.  The attacker forced the victim into the brush & attempted to remove clothing, when the victim managed to break free & ran for help.  The suspect is described as a white male, in his mid-20 with dirty blond hair, wearing a gray colored tank top & holding either a red belt or handkerchief, anyone with information is asked to contact Norwich police at 336-TIPS.

Otsego County Health department reported 18 new Positive COVID 19 tests results, giving them over 3800 total cases & 55 deaths since the pandemic began.  Chenango County today reported 120 active cases with 414 quarantined, they have had over 2700 cases so far.  In Delaware County, there are 132 active cases, 354 in quarantine and 1888 total cases with 45 deaths.

A Rochester woman becomes the latest person to accuse governor Cuomo with inappropriate advances.  Sherry Vill said that the governor kissed her several times, while he was examining her home for flooding in 2017.  Lawmakers from both parties are calling for the governor to resign following several accusations of sexually harassing behavior.

23 year old George Wang of Kansas pleaded not guilty to attempted murder in Otsego County Court.  Wang is accused of driving off of state route 28 in the town of Hartwick in front of the Tops Market & Striking a pedestrian last November, he then sped off.  Wand was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs & alcohol he is free after posting $300,000 bond, he is due back in court may 24th.

Trout Season begins in New York State tomorrow.  The State DEC is stocking 1.8 million trout in waters across the state.

The Sidney Elks Lodge will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 3rd at 11:30 AM.  The hunt will be held outside & Masks are required, the Easter Bunny will be available for pictures.

The Murder Trial of Dylan Robinson of Oneonta will begin in Otsego County Court on April 14th Robinson is accused of murdering his father, along with several others, and then setting the house on fire  in October of 2019 in Worcester.

The Sidney Police Department is partnering with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and Chenango Health Network for a medication take back day. Anyone with any unused, outdated or unwanted medication can safely dispose of it at the date, time and place listed below. Note: no sharps or needles will be accepted.  The event will be held at the River Street Fire Station from 2:00 to 7:00 PM today.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies announced that a traffic violation on West Main Street in the Village of Hancock Wednesday evening resulted in the arrest of New Jersey woman.   Deputies observed a vehicle being operated without headlights. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 28 year-old Lilly Cosme of Mount Holly, New Jersey; a routine driver’s license inquiry revealed that Cosme’s driving privileges were suspended in 2016.  Cosme was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Cosme’s vehicle was towed from the highway and she was released after being directed to appear in the Village of Hancock Court on a later date.


Delaware County Public Health reported 28 new COVID 19 cases out of 169 tested Monday.  The county has 13 hospitalized, 139 active cases & 301 quarantined.


The Otsego County Department of Health will be holding a vaccination clinic at the Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown on April 2nd, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.   Registration is up on the Otsego County Department of Health Website, Anyone currently eligible to receive the vaccine per the NYS guidelines may register for an appointment. Do not register unless you meet the current eligibility.  Anyone over the age of 30 is eligible to be vaccinated.
