Nicholas & Terry DeCutler were arraigned in Otsego County Court Monday on 2nd degree Murder charges. The Brothers are accused of fatally stabbing 24 year old Kaleb O'Neill in an alleyway at Dietz Street in Oneonta on Memorial Day. The DeCutler's were being held on Bail in the Otsego County Jail pending a court appearance on September 19th.
Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested Melanie Moore of New Jersey for failing to stop at a stop sign on Townsend Street in Walton. Moore's driving privileges had been suspended, she was charged with Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, she faces court action at a later date.
The Delaware County Fair had a successful 1st day Monday at the Fairgrounds in Walton, Spokesman Jason Craig said that the rides on the midway are ready to go today:

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that all SNAP households will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for the month of August. the additional allotment will result in a $234 million to eligible families, households already near or at the maximum benefit level will receive an additional payment of $95 this month.
Norwich Middle School Principal Michelle Osterhoudt, has accepted the position of Superintendent of the Margaretville School District. Osterhoudt, of Oneonta will take over as the Margaretville Superintendent for the start of the new school year, she had served in the Norwich district for several years, she also served on the Oneonta Common Council and served various capacities for the Oneonta NAACP.
The State DEC has expanded its Drought Watch to about 2/3rds of the state's land, as dry weather conditions continue. The watch now includes all of the counties south of the Mohawk River Valley, & excludes those in the Adirondacks, Eastern Great Lakes, Westchester County & New York City. DEC Officials are encouraging residents in affected counties, particularly those dependent on private groundwater wells, to conserve water whenever possible during the coming weeks. No mandatory restrictions are in place under a state drought watch.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 35-year-old Jason Johnson of Nineveh has been found guilty of attempted murder & several other charges for the shooting of State Trooper Becky Seager on June 9th , 2021. Troopers responded to East Windsor Road for a welfare check, Trooper Becky Seager was shot in the hip, which was followed by a 19-hour manhunt, Johnson was found the next day at State Route 79 near the Susquehanna River in the town of Colesville.
Delaware County Sheriff's office have arrested 47 year old James Amato of Colchester, back on July 12th, Deputies responded to a trespass in progress, where Amato is accused of entering a gated property after being told he was not allowed there. On August 10th, Deputies arrested Amato for Criminal Mischief & Criminal Trespass, he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Andes Court on a later date.
A Blood Drive is being held in Sidney today, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Tri Town Campus on Pearl Street. The Blood Drive will run from 1:30 to 6:30 PM, Appointments are requested at 1-800-RED CROSS or redcrossblood.org.
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will hold its next regular meeting today. The meeting begins at 7:30 am at the back of Bob's Diner.

Governor Cuomo said today that he was disgusted at the actions of Police in Buffalo yesterday during a protest, where an elderly man was knocked to the ground, he hit his head on the ground, and Police walked passed him, even though he was visibly bleeding from the ear:

75 year old Martin Gugino of Buffalo is hospitalized in serious but stable condition today, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said that 2 officers have been suspended & the District Attorneys' office is investigating.
Governor Cuomo today announced the state has reached the lowest number of deaths and hospitalizations since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Yesterday, 42 people in New York passed away Thursday due to COVID-19, down from a record-high of 800 from 8 weeks ago. The number of total hospitalizations was down yesterday to 2,728 from a record-high of 18,825 during the peak of the pandemic. The Governor also confirmed 1,075 additional cases of novel coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 376,208 confirmed cases since Early March.
With the racial unrest all over the country right now, after the recent murder by Minneapolis Police of George Floyd, Local NAACP President Lee Fisher commented about the tumultuous times we are in:

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Long Island man Monday following their investigation of a domestic dispute. Deputies and State Police responded to a domestic dispute involving weapons in the Town of Davenport, they arrested 32- year-old Abdessamad Ellouzi of Cedarhurst, for criminal possession of a weapon & menacing, for allegedly possessing and threatening family members with a dangerous instrument. Ellouzi was arraigned by teleconference in Sidney Village Court and was released; he will appear in Town of Davenport court at a later date.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are at 133 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. They have 1 patient hospitalized, 98 have recovered, 5, are deceased, 98 are quarantined, over 4000 tests have been conducted.
Bainbridge Town Spring Clean-Up Day is tomorrow from 9:00 am - Noon at the Town Highway garage on Lawrence Road. Residents can drop off tires, white goods and electronics. No garbage, hazardous waste or yard debris and no early drop offs!! The fee for tires up to a size 16" is $3.00, 17 - 20" $4.00 and $8.50 for tractor tires. There will also be a $10.00 fee for any appliance that contains Freon.
New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will begin accepting reservations on Monday June 8th for check-in beginning June 22 on State Campgrounds. The department says campers should follow CDC social-distancing guidelines, Park Police and staff will patrol campgrounds to make sure campers are following the safety measures. No walk-up reservations allowed; congregate restroom facility will be opened with reduced capacity and cleaned following Department Of Health protocols; more information is available at parks.ny.gov/covid19.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a registered Level II Sex Offender following a sexual abuse investigation in the Town of Davenport. 45-year-old Richard Bennett of Davenport was charged with sexual abuse & endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly subjecting a female child under the age of 17 to sexual contact, Bennett was served with an order of protection was issued by Deposit Court & was released on an appearance ticket to Town of Davenport Court at a later date. Bennett was mandated to lifetime registration as a Level II Sex Offender as a result of his 2006 conviction in Otsego County Court for 3rd degree rape, a crime that also involved a victim under the age of seventeen.
State Police arrested 49 year old Wayne Johnson of Unadilla for Aggravated DWI with a child as passenger and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Troopers responded to a complaint about a vehicle in the ditch off Lilley Hill Road in the town of Butternuts. Troopers located Johnson walking on Robert Williams Road with 2 children; Johnson was released on appearance tickets to the town of Butternuts court on June 25th.
The Sidney United Way is offering free personal pandemic safety kits to area small business owners to distribute to their employees as they reopen. Each kit includes several masks, a pair of gloves, hand sanitizer, soap and tissues. Business owners may pick up one kit for each employee plus a bottle of hand sanitizer on again today, at SFCU in Sidney between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, SFCU in Bainbridge between 10:00 and 4:00, in Afton at the RINKER INSURANCE AGENCY between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm & in Unadilla at HOUSE OF CONSIGNMENT between 10:00 and 4:00. State Police arrested 29 year old Henry Macias of Laurens for felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, 3rd degree Assault, Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Interlock Device, and other traffic violations. Troopers responded to the report of a domestic dispute with injuries in Laurens, Macias allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle; troopers located him in Oneonta. Macias was arraigned in the town of Oneonta court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond pending future court action; an order of protection was issued behalf of the victim.

Approximately 150 rallied at Muller Plaza in Downtown Oneonta Monday night, in response the Charlottesville Virginia violence over the weekend. Representatives from the NAACP & area churches spoke to the group at last night's anti-racism rally.

The Brooklyn Democrat said that he has been approached about a run for governor. The Cancer Services Program of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie will offer free health screenings to women 40 or older that are uninsured/underinsured, in partnership with Bassett Healthcare this weekend. An Interfaith Candlelight Vigil will be held tonight in Oneonta, in support of the Orlando Florida Shooting Victims. The vigil will begin at 7:00 PM in Muller Plaza on Main Street, the event is being hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, The 1st Methodist Church, the Oneonta NAACP & the city Of Oneonta Commission on Community Relations & Human Rights.
The State Public Service Commission adopted a 3-year electric and gas rate plans for NYSEG & Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation. Effective July 1 of this year through April 30, 2019, typical residential electric customers in NYSEG’s service territory will see a monthly delivery charge increase of approximately $2.20 in the first year with increases of $1.76 and $1.79, respectively, in the second and third years. Under the company’s proposal, in rate year one, typical residential customers would have experienced an increase in delivery charges of $8.79 per month. Typical residential gas customers in NYSEG’s service territory will see a monthly delivery charge increase of approximately $1.35, $4.01, and $4.21 in rate year one, two and three, respectively.
The statewide unemployment rate decreased from 4.9% to 4.7% in May 2016. This represented the state’s lowest unemployment rate since August 2007. New York’s unemployment rate was equal to the U.S. rate in May 2016. In addition, the number of unemployed New Yorkers also decreased over the month – falling from 476,600 in April to 461,800 in May 2016, reaching its lowest level since October 2007. New York State's private sector job count declined by 19,600, or 0.2%, in May 2016. About half of the state's private sector job losses in May were temporary, due to a strike in the telecommunications industry. Since the beginning of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration, New York State’s economy has added 794,700 private sector jobs and experienced employment growth in 56 of the past 65 months.
There will be a Federal Primary Election on Tuesday, June 28th, from 12;00 Noon to 9:00 PM. Democrats & Republicans will hold a Primary for Representative in Congress of the 19th District. There is a change for the town of Tompkins polling site, all Tompkins voters will vote at the Tompkins Town Hall at 148 Bridge Street in Trout Creek. June 21st is the last day an absentee ballot application may be mailed to the Board of Elections. June 27th is the last day to apply in person for an absentee ballot and the last day to mail a completed ballot to the Board of Elections. Sidney Central School will hold their Summer Food Service Program this summer, to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Sidney Central School will serve children at the Junior/Senior High School Cafeteria, Monday through Thursday from July 11th to August 19th, with breakfast from 7:30 am to 8:30 am and lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Governor Cuomo announced the launch of coordinated sweeps during the summer concert season and at other underage hotspots as part of ongoing efforts to deter underage drinking and prevent the use of fake IDs. The enforcement sweeps will occur unannounced at various concert venues and will be carried out by the DMV, the State Liquor Authority, State Park Police, State Police, and local law enforcement agencies. Patrons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs or false documents with the intent of purchasing alcohol can be arrested and have their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to one year.
The State Lawmakers are wrapping up their work for the 2016 session, this year's Budget contains highway funding going to individual municipalities this year through "Pave NY", for them to take care of various road repairs after the winter months. Area Assemblyman Bill Magee explains:

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman reminded New Yorkers of common scams that occur during the summer, targeting consumers embarking on home improvement projects or planning family vacations.
