A State Trooper was injured Sunday night following a traffic
stop on Route 41 in Afton. The trooper
attempted to pull over a motorist, who did not comply and drove away until
crashing in the area of Loomis Road; he then took off on foot. The unidentified trooper caught up to the
suspect, the trooper received minor injuries following a scuffle, and the
driver of the car was bit by a police dog.
The driver was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, criminal
possession of a controlled substance & several other charges, more details
are expected to be released shortly.
Afton Firefighters responded this morning to a fire at 191
Hall Road. No one was home when the fire
broke out, Firefighters from Coventry, Bainbridge & Harpursville assisted,
the home was completely destroyed, and the cause of the fire is under
investigation.
4 people were arrested following a drug rain on a house in
Binghamton Friday. Police seized
fentanyl, drug packaging materials & scales, at 48 Tompkins Street on the
city's South Side. Police arrested 62
year old Lydia Onishea, 34-year-old Danielle Thompson, 37-year-old Anthony
Criscitello on a variety of drug charges & 25-year-old Tanna Ulmer for
false personation, all 4 face court action shortly
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Richard Williams
of Downsville, Saturday for Menacing and criminal trespass, for allegedly
entering a residence illegally in the Town of Colchester and, after exiting,
menacing another person with a dangerous instrument. Williams was arraigned in
the Village of Walton Court and was released on his own recognizance. Williams
is scheduled to appear at Colchester Town Court at a later date to answer the
charges.
The Otsego County Department of Solid Waste & the Arc
Otsego ReUse Center announced the opening of a polystyrene recycling facility
now available to county residents. The
facility is located at the ReUse Center, 23 Duane Street in Oneonta. Material must be delivered in a clear plastic
bag directly to staff. Accepted items
include white meat trays, white cups, white take-out containers, egg cartons
& packaging used to protect electronics.

The first week of the Sidney
Central school District’s 9th annual Summer Camps begins on July 8, with
registration closing July 1. This year
the District will offer the American Red Cross Babysitting Class for students
ages 11-15 on July 15th & 16th. Registration for all weeks and camps can be
found at sidneycsd.asapconnected.com.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael
Gincerowski Jr., of Port Crane for vehicular manslaughter, Leaving the scene of
an accident resulting in death, DWI, Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor
vehicle, following a hit and run accident Saturday night in the Town of Fenton
that killed 16-year-old Constance Mazzarese of Owego. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded
to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a bicycle on State
Route 369 in the Town of Fenton just after 10:00 PM Saturday night, the driver
of the SUV left the scene, a State Trooper located the vehicle, disabled, about
a mile north of the collision.
Gincerowski was located at a nearby residence and was taken into custody.
Delaware County Public Health announced that a skunk in the
town of Andes has tested positive for rabies.
The rabid skunk exposed 4 dogs and 1 person. The person exposed to the rabid skunk is
receiving rabies post exposure prophylaxis. Two of the four dogs were up to
date on their rabies vaccinations and received boosters after the
exposure. Public Health is working with
the dog owner and Town of Andes officials to implement 6-month quarantine on
the 2 dogs that were not up to date on their rabies vaccinations. The remaining rabies 2019 rabies clinics can
be viewed at delawarecountypublichealth.com
Fireworks Over The Fairgrounds will return to the Chenango

A new poll from the Siena College Research Institute found that Governor Cuomo still holds a 32-point lead over Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino. The survey found 58% of likely voters choosing Cuomo and only 26% were choosing Astorino. Only 33% of Upstate voters said that they would vote for Astorino, 48% would vote for Cuomo.
Monday might have been a record day for attendance at the Delaware county fair in Walton this year. Fair spokesman John Jackson told WCDO News about the attendance that the fair normally sees:

Today, Emily Lapinel received the Milt & Douglas Thomson agriculture Scholarship, to help pursue studies at SUNY Cobleskill. In attendance were Assemblymen Cliff Crouch, Pete Lopez, State Senators John Bonacic and Jim Seward and many members of the Delaware County Board of Supervisors.
Chenango county Sheriff’s Deputies and New Berlin Police arrested Michael Gincerowski of Binghamton for Felony DWI, Refusal to submit to a breath test, Open container in a motor vehicle and leaving the scene for a property damage accident following an investigation where Gincerowski allegedly struck a vehicle at the Unadilla Race Track in the Town of Columbus and left the scene. New Berlin Police located the vehicle on State Hwy 8 in the Town of New Berlin and determined Gincerowski was operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.
State Police in Binghamton arrested 27 year old Shakira Garner of Freeport, Long Island on 5 counts of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, 2 counts of 4th degree Grand Larceny 4th, 9 counts of Forgery, 2 counts of Identity Theft & Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Garner is accused of fraudulently opened accounts at both the Visions and State Employee Federal Credit Unions, & stealing a total of $25,000.00 from the two credit unions. She was arrested on a Town of Chenango arrest warrant in Nassau County, she was transported back to the Town of Chenango Court for arraignment and then was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail set at this time.
Otsego Express is providing public transportation service on a new route, known as Route 14. The new route will provide public transportation service between Oneonta, Morris, Gilbertsville, Mt. State Supreme Court Justice Edgar Walker ruled on Monday that Democrat Zephyr Teachout has enough proof that she has been a continuous resident of New York for 5 years and is eligible to be on the ballot in the September 9th primary election. Teachout currently teaches at Fordham University in the Bronx and has resided in Brooklyn since 2009.
Governor Cuomo announced the IFISHNY Challenge, that calls upon anglers to show off their largemouth & striped bass catches, with the New York Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife app. The Challenge runs through Labor Day, winners will be announced in September, for 1 free lifetime fishing license to be awarded for the longest largemouth bass & 1 for the longest striped bass caught. State residents pay a Monthly state surcharge on utility bills; the money goes to help balance the state's budget, but ratepayers may have been overcharged. The Public Service Commission said the utility over-collections may have totaled $250-million. The “temporary state assessment” surcharge was enacted in 2009, since then the state has collected about $2.9-billion from the tax. The surcharge was supposed to sunset this year, but it was extended in last year's budget. Governor Cuomo and the legislature have agreed to phase it out in 2017
