State Police responded Tuesday Night to a crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at State Highway 28 and County Highway 48 in the town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that 76 year old Patricia Howard of Sidney, was operating an SUV on County Highway 48 and began making a left turn onto State Highway 28 when she failed to observe a Motorcycle driven by 57 year old Gabriel Mizrahi of Syosset, he was transported to A.O Fox Hospital & was airlifted to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is on-going.
The collaboration between the Tri County Senior Center & The Delaware Valley Humane Society has resulted in a cookbook for sale, to raise money for the Shelter, Carol Allen of Tri County Senior Center & Erin Insinga of the Humane Society told WCDO News how the plan started:

The Broome County Department of Public Works announced that a culvert replacement will be taking place along Old Route 17 in the Town of Sanford starting next week, the road will be closed from May 11th through August 14th, motorists will need to seek alternative routes, Detour routes will be posted for motorists to follow.
The Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center is now open and it will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State, they provide on-site care for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises, offering stabilization services for up to 24 hours. The center is for residents in the Mohawk Valley area counties, including Otsego County.
A new poll from Sienna Research Institute shows that Governor Hochul's lead over Nassau County Republican Bruce Blakeman increased by another 3%, in the race for New York Governor. Hochul had 49% of prospective voters, while Blakeman had 33%.

Blakeman’s nomination comes a day after Antonio Delgado dropped out of the race where he was hoping to upset his former boss and force a primary, Polling showed that Delgado was behind among Democrats by a 6 to 1 margin, in the recent Sienna Poll Hochul has about a 3 to 1 margin over Blakeman.

She was last seen driving a 2013 red Kia SUV with New York license plate LGJ-4364 on Franklin Street in the city of Oneonta, at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10. The State DEC announced that on January 28th, in the Town of New Lisbon, Forest Rangers responded for a search for a missing 70-year-old after her husband called to report her missing. Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies followed her tracks to Butternut Creek, A Forest Ranger Laymon went to County Route 12, where the road crosses the creek, and spotted the missing subject standing in a cornfield. Otsego County Emergency Medical Services transported the patient to Bassett Hospital.
Local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $24.4 billion in calendar year 2025, an increase of 4.5%, or $1 billion, from 2024, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Aggregate county collections outside of New York City grew 4%, or $443 million, in 2025 compared to the previous year. 52 of 57 Counties experienced an increase in collections, Chenango County had the highest growth at 11.8%, followed by Yates, Hamilton and Delaware at 10.7%.
The latest Sienna Institute Polling has Governor Kathy Hochul holding a commanding lead over Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, 54-28%. Among registered Democrats, Hochul has an overwhelming 64-11% lead over Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado. 6 of the Governors proposals received 58-68% support, including eliminating state income tax on the first $25,000 earned in tips, ensuring immigration enforcement targeting those in the country illegally, cannot occur in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, & places of worship, increasing childcare funding & providing $30 million in payments to farmers to offset what Hochul calls rising costs due to tariffs (59-17%).
Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that 62 year old Amber Sines of Sidney pleaded guilty in the Village of Sidney Court to Driving While Intoxicated, Sines was sentenced yesterday to 60 days in jail to be followed by 3 years of probation supervision, her license was revoked, and she will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle she owns or operates if she re-obtains the privilege to drive. Sines was arrested last March by State Police after observing a vehicle sitting stationery at the intersection of State Highway 8 and Delaware Avenue in the Village of Sidney, the vehicle had an expired registration and inspection and she failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene and was placed into custody.
On January 31st, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Detail in Otsego County, all 14 business were in compliance, NONE of the locations checked sold alcohol to a person under that age of 21. The detailed focused on Otsego County Businesses in Oneonta, Schenevus & Worcester, During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth (if asked).

A new Sienna College Poll show Governor Kathy Hochul with a 49% to 30% lead over Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s in the 2026 gubernatorial race, with 20% remaining undecided. Stefanik has a 3-to-1 lead over her Republican primary rival, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who has the support of President Trump. Hochul leads her own primary opponent, Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado, 56%-13% among Democratic respondents.
The State Department of Health continues to monitor the outbreak of the flu statewide, which is now deemed prevalent in the State. There were 23 respiratory outbreaks in hospitals and 51 respiratory outbreaks in nursing homes in the 1st week of December, a total of 302 viral respiratory pathogen outbreaks have been reported from hospitals and nursing homes. Influenza A is the predominant virus with 93% falling into that category, There were no pediatric flu deaths reported this season, there were no COVID-19-or RSV pediatric deaths reported this season.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 64 year old Wayne Howe of North Norwich for criminal mischief, after deputies responded to a domestic dispute in North Norwich. Howe was additionally charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Unlawful Imprisonment & Harassment, he was processed at the Chenango County Sheriff's Office and was arraigned & remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. Howe is to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
31 year old Mathew Hall of Columbia, South Carolina, was found guilty of 1st degree Rape in Broome County Court, The conviction stems from a sexual assault in the City of Binghamton in October of 2024 where Hall engaged in sexual contact with another person who was incapable of consent due to being physically helpless. Hall is scheduled to be sentenced on March 19, 2026, in Broome County Court where he will be required to register as a Sex Offender and faces up to 25 years in State Prison.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office is going pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they’re inviting the public to help design the new logo and t-shirt for this year’s Pink Patch Project fundraiser, which is a national campaign bringing law enforcement and the community together to raise breast cancer awareness. State Officials announced this week that Shooting Incidents Decreased By 29% In New York State, after the state received reports from law enforcement agencies, that were taking part in New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination or "GIVE" initiative. Hochul's office also announced a 21 percent decline in the number of individuals killed by gun violence in the same period, the initiative supports 28 police departments in 21 counties, Nassau, Suffolk & Yonkers had the steepest declines of almost 60%.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Aaron Talbot of Norwich for Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of an Address Change, which is a violation as Talbot is a level 3 convicted sex offender in New York. Talbot is accused of failing to register his new address within 10 days of his move, he was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a parole warrant and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Justin Ingalls of Milford following a welfare check in the Town of Milford. Ingalls was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as Miscellaneous Traffic Violations, after an investigation revealed that Ingalls had been operating a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs, he was released on appearance tickets for Town of Milford court at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols responded to reports of suspicious activity in and around an apartment building in the Town of Union Friday. The investigation revealed that 31 year old Miguel Martinez had broken into a second-floor apartment through a bedroom window. The noises alerted a downstairs neighbor, who called 911. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols & State Police located Martinez nearby and placed him in custody without incident, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary & was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement were informed of the arrest of the undocumented Martinez and will coordinate a transfer of custody at a later date.

The Norwich City Police Department has concluded the investigation into the armed robbery on May 23, 2023, at Holt’s Hemp Emporium. Varun Maharajh of Trinidad, also known as Kelvin Sihgh, is in Federal Custody in Florida, he was taken into custody on separate federal charges in November by the Indian River Sheriff’s Office, after a high-speed chase, he was charged with 7 counts in a federal indictment that alleges he knowingly attempted to export firearms and ammunition to the United Kingdom, as well as illegally and unlawfully possessing numerous firearms and ammunition. The Norwich Police Department is working with the Chenango County District Attorney’s and criminal charges are expected to be filed against Maharajh in the near future.
The State Department of Health announced the 3rd case of measles in 2024, The case was identified in a patient who resides in Nassau County and was confirmed at the Department's Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The State Health Department is closely monitoring this case, along with Nassau County health officials, and have alerted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first 2 cases were reported in New York City.

State Police arrested 29 year old Brandon Hilts of Cherry Valley for 2nd degree Assault, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. Troopers were dispatched to a report of a domestic dispute in a vehicle in the town of Edmeston, the investigation revealed that a verbal argument became physical. Hilts is accused of seriously injuring and choking the victim & that he threatened the victim with a knife and prevented the victim from leaving, from calling 911 and for trying to hit the victim with the victims vehicle. The victim was Bassett Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the dispute, Hilts was remanded to the Otsego County Jail pending court action in Edmeston Town Court on February 7.
The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting applications for funding under the 2022 Tourism Promotion & Development Grant program, spokesman Evan Bowker explains:

The State Labor Department released their December breakdown for unemployment in each County. Locally, Chenango & Delaware Counties had 2.8% unemployment, Otsego county had 3% unemployment, the statewide rate was at 6.2%.
Governor Hochul & Attorney General Letitia James announced that New York’s indoor mask mandate is back in effect just one day after a Nassau County judge ruled that it couldn’t be enforced. New York State filed an appeal Tuesday following the ruling, and Judge Robert Miller granted the state’s request for a stay of the the previous ruling that the governor and health officials lacked authority to require masks. The State Department of Education already sent a notice to schools Tuesday saying regardless of Monday’s ruling, masks would still be required. Another hearing on the mandate is scheduled for Friday.
The Greene Police Department, State Police & The Chenango County Sheriff's Office are investigating a shooting in Greene Tuesday Morning at around 8:00 AM. The hooting took place at 8 1/2 Jackson Street, the victim was listed in stable condition at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, an unidentified person has been arrested, the investigation is continuing.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle operated by 19-year old Levi R. Shambaugh, of Delancey on sun Day January 16th for allegedly driving 70 Miles per hour in a 55mph zone, on State Highway 10, in the Town of Delhi. Shambaugh’s New York State driver’s license was suspended due to a failure to answer a summons. Shambaugh was charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, speeding among other charges, he was released on appearance tickets for the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Otsego County Office of Emergency Services announced that COVID test kits, one kit per person, are available today at the Schenevus Fire Department from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, and Thursday at the Cherry Valley Fire Department from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Hartwick Town Hall from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, and Thursday at the Unadilla Fire Department starting at 4:30 pm until gone.

During a briefing on the novel
coronavirus earlier today, Governor Cuomo confirmed 11 additional cases of
novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 22 confirmed cases in New York State.
Of the 22 individuals who tested positive for the virus, one resides in Nassau
County, three reside in New York City and 18 reside in Westchester County. In
response to the growing number of cases, the Governor activated the statewide
Emergency Operation Center in Albany, as well as two Emergency Operations
Center outposts in Westchester County: one in Hawthorne and one in New
Rochelle.

Bail for 18 year old Cody Coleman of Smithville was set at
$600,000 cash or $1 million bond earlier this week in Chenango County
Court.  Coleman was charged with 2nd
degree murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon
for the May 3rd death of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Amelia Wakefield of
Oxford.   Coleman is being held at the Chenango County
Correctional Facility pending future court action.
The Delaware County Historical Association is accepting

history, traditions and culture will be presented with awards at the

announced that their Fall Workshops begin on Saturday September 14th through
October 19, where Rod Sutton will teach Photography to students of all levels

The American Red Cross will hold blood drives today,
September 11th, which is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and
Remembrance.  In The Southern Tier, a
blood drive will be held from 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM at Binghamton University, in
Chenango County, in New Berlin from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM At Golden Artist
Colors, at 188 Bell Road.
At 8:30 a.m., Governor Cuomo will attend the September 11
Commemoration Ceremony.  Following the
ceremony, Governor Cuomo will join more than 700 motorcycle riders
participating in the 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle Ride at a lunch and ceremony in
New York City.  Groups of riders will
travel from Albany, Ulster and Nassau Counties before converging in New York
City.  Following the lunch, Governor Cuomo
and the other riders will depart on motorcycles for a ceremonial ride down the
West Side Highway to the World Trade Center site.

The Nassau County District Attorney will not attempt to prosecute former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on charges of physical or sexual abuse. The DA's office announced that there were legal impediments, including statutes of limitations that prohibited their office from going forward with a prosecution of Schneiderman, who resigned in May after allegations by several women that Schneiderman abused them. Nassau county district attorney Madeline Singas had been appointed by Governor Cuomo to oversee the allegations against Schniederman, based on her expertise on prosecuting sex crimes.
State Police are investigating the suspicious deaths of 24 year old Dustin McMahon & 31 year old Christina Arvidson of Richmondville, in the town of Summit, Schoharie County. State Police were called to the scene on Rossman Valley Road on Tuesday. A preliminary investigation revealed the individuals died overnight Monday.

Troopers found a vehicle in the lawn of a residence, after an investigation, Pecoraro was arrested & was arraigned in the town of Davenport Court where she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. Her next court appearance is September 27th.

The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds voters the registered Democrats will vote for candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and State Senator in the 42nd District & Town of Middletown Council. State Police arrested 32 Year Old Brent Fallon of Endwell for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, following an explosion & fully engulfed house fire on Wayne Street Sunday. Broome County fire investigators and State Police revealed that the basement had precursors for the manufacture of methamphetamine. Fallon was arrested and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town Union Court on September 4th.

Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.
The Investigation is continuing of Former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who resigned Monday after allegations of physical violence against 4 women. Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that this was another case that points up the need for ethics reforms for state elected officials:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to State route 10 near Beers Brook Road in the Town of Walton to assist the Walton Fire Department following a grass fire. The Investigation determined that the fire was caused by a projectile firework; Deputies arrested 26 year old Brett McLaughlin of Hancock, with Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks, and for violating the State’s Burn Ban. DEC Law prohibits open burning between March 16th to May 14th. McLaughlin was issued an appearance ticket for Town of Walton Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a reported theft of a road sign in the Town of Delhi that led to the recovery of numerous highway signs & Coldwell Banker/Timberland Properties real estate signs. Deputies reported that they recovered more than 30 signs and charged 18 year old Russell Storey of Andes, 18 year old Dylan Reed of Margaretville, NY, and an unidentified 17 year old Roxbury male with Grand Larceny & Criminal Mischief & they also charged 20 year old Darian Scudder of Halcottsville with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. All 4 suspects were issued appearance tickets for Town of Middletown Court at a later date.
Delaware County Public Health will be presenting Lori Benson Adams of Breakthrough Learning Solutions; she will discuss Executive Functioning Skills in Children. The conference will be held at SUNY Delhi on May 22nd from 9:00 am until 3:00pm. Governor Cuomo has named Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas as the special prosecutor to investigate allegations that former Attorney General Eric Schneiderman physically abused 4 women. Schneiderman resigned on Monday following the publishing of an article in "The New Yorker" where the women accused Schneiderman of striking them.

23-year-old Kevin Perry appearing Oneonta Town Court yesterday, & his case will be held over for a Grand Jury. Perry has been charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder & criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with the fatal shooting of his parents in the family home in the town of Laurens on December 12th. Perry remains held in the Otsego County jail without bail, Grand jury action is expected next Month.
Governor Cuomo unveiled another proposal that will be part of his 2018 State of the State, which is the plan to combat high local property taxes. The Governor proposes making the state's countywide-shared services panels permanent. The panels have led counties to further consolidate services in order to cut costs at the county levels, so far, 34 counties submitted nearly 400 projects with more than $200 million in savings. Governor Cuomo proposed that County Governments pool employee health plans into combined healthcare groupings, to increase the buying power which should lead to lower costs, save local tax dollars, and not affect employee's plans.
State Police announced that State Trooper Joseph Gallagher was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle while assisting a disabled motorist at the on-ramp of a Long Island Highway on Monday. Trooper Gallagher is assigned to Troop L in Brentwood in Nassau County, and he has been a member of the State Police since 2014. Trooper Gallagher was taken to an area hospital & underwent emergency surgery, he was lsited in Critical condition.
A Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle for several NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law violations on Friday on State Route 79 in the Town of Fenton. 28 year old Deanna Olmstead of Windsor was arrested for felony DWI, Aggravated DWI, Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle driving without an interlock device and several other charges. Olmstead was arraigned in the Town of Fenton Court and remanded to the Broome County Sheriffs Jail pending additional court action.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's Girlfriend, TV Food Network star Sandra Lee, has been hospitalized for complications from her recent double mastectomy. Lee was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night the 49-year-old Lee had the surgery in May after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis through a routine Mammogram. Cuomo left a Billy Joel concert at Nassau Coliseum early to be with Lee when he learned of her hospitalization.
Chenango County Sheriff's deputies arrested 2 men Wednesday following a trespass complaint in the Town of North Norwich. Deputies arrested 19-year-old Daqon Holmes of Utica & Dashire Jackson of Utica following a 911 complaint from a male in North Norwich who claimed that the 2 would not leave his residence until he paid them $250 dollars. After arrival to the scene, detectives located the defendants, Holmes fled on foot, he was located and taken into custody without further incident, Holmes and Jackson were charged with criminal trespass, they were arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court, they were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 cash bail.

On Friday, Delaware County Deputies responded to a Domestic Dispute on State Highway 10 in the Town of Kortright. Deputies arrested 34-year-old Craig Schmitz of Bloomville for Endangering the Welfare of a child, Harassment & Criminal Mischief; he was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and released on his own recognizance pending future court action.

Today, Emily Lapinel received the Milt & Douglas Thomson agriculture Scholarship, to help pursue studies at SUNY Cobleskill.  In attendance were Assemblymen Cliff Crouch, Pete Lopez, State Senators John Bonacic and Jim Seward and many members of the Delaware County Board of Supervisors.
Chenango county Sheriff’s Deputies and New Berlin Police arrested Michael Gincerowski of Binghamton for Felony DWI, Refusal to submit to a breath test, Open container in a motor vehicle and leaving the scene for a property damage accident following an investigation where Gincerowski allegedly struck a vehicle at the Unadilla Race Track in the Town of Columbus and left the scene. New Berlin Police located the vehicle on State Hwy 8 in the Town of New Berlin and determined Gincerowski was operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition, he was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.
State Police in Binghamton arrested 27 year old Shakira Garner of Freeport, Long Island on 5 counts of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, 2 counts of 4th degree Grand Larceny 4th, 9 counts of Forgery, 2 counts of Identity Theft & Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument.  Garner is accused of fraudulently opened accounts at both the Visions and State Employee Federal Credit Unions, & stealing a total of $25,000.00 from the two credit unions.  She was arrested on a Town of Chenango arrest warrant in Nassau County, she was transported back to the Town of Chenango Court for arraignment and then was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail set at this time.

State Troopers arrested 44-year-old Stephen Thill of Colchester, on an active arrest warrant for 2nd degree Aggravated Harassment from the Nassau County Police Department. The arrest resulted from another complaint, which occurred in the Town of Colchester, Thill was taken into custody and turned over to the Nassau County Police.
