State Police at Troop C in Sidney held their annual Memorial Service, a day to remember those who served, especially those who gave their lives in the line of duty, Troop C Commanding Officer Major Lucas Shuta Comments:

State Police and other Law Enforcement agencies will be looking for intoxicated drivers, distracted drivers, and those violating the state's Move Over Laws, Construction will be suspended during the Memorial day Weekend, except in the case of an emergency.


The National Baseball Hall of Fame Military Classic will be held Saturday, at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. Seven Hall of Famers and 25 big league stars will participate in the seven-inning legends game during Memorial Day Weekend festivities that will honor baseball’s longstanding connection to the military. The activities begin when gates open at 11 am., and the pregame home run hitting contest will begin at noon, followed by the 1 pm. game. An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in Sidney Saturday from 10:00AM to 2:00 PM at the Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street. Appointments can be made at redcrossblood.org, 1-800 Red Cross or with the Blood Donor App. The Blood Drive is dedicated to the memory of Madisyn Oakes, a Bainbridge Guilford Student who passed away in a car crash at 17 years of age on April 20, 2025.


This Saturday, New Berlin is hosting its First Annual Village Crawl, which is a Community Cleanup Day and emergency stabilization kickoff at the historic Harris-White House also known as the "Pink Palace" at 5050 State Highway 8, New Berlin, the event will run Saturday, from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

General Clinton Canoe Regatta gets underway today through Sunday with attractions at General Clinton Park, according to co-chairman Mike Kaufman:

Fenimore Art Museum on State Route 80 in Cooperstown features a major exhibition beginning May 23rd. The Linda McCartney Retrospective: From the Light, which offers a look at the life and work of Linda McCartney, Director of Exhibits Julia Madore explains:

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Shelley Wilkerson of Worcester for Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals and failure to provide sustenance following an investigation into a report of an elderly Great Dane that was dying or deceased at Wilkerson's residence. Deputies found the Great Dane was located outside, the Investigation revealed that Wilkerson allegedly failed to provide proper veterinary care to the dog, which resulted in the dog's death. Wilkerson was arrested and was issued an Appearance Ticket to Town of Worcester Court at a later date.


New York lawmakers passed a third budget extender Monday to keep state government running and employees paid as budget negotiations, continue in Albany. The stalemate continues due to issues like the state’s climate law, auto insurance reform, education and housing. The budget was due April 1st & has been late the last 5 years.

Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County, recently won the bid from the Norwich School District to purchase Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street in Norwich, they plan to build a $9 million multi-unit apartment project for low-income housing at the site. The sale of the parcel has to be approved by voters in the Norwich School District when they vote on the district budget on May 19th in the Norwich City School District Office, 89 Midland Drive in Norwich.

Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squad were dispatched Sunday at about 2:00 PM to a working structure fire on Fish Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden, that was called in by a passerby. Upon arriving, units found a 2 1/2 story farm house with smoke & flames showing, by 3:00 pm the fire was under control, the structure was a total loss and 1 nearby structure was saved, No injuries were reported to the 3 residents or firefighters, mutual aid was provided by several area Fire Departments.


The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will host a Memorial Day Weekend celebration, The Hall of Fame Military Classic: A Tribute to Service and Sacrifice will feature a 7-inning game at Doubleday Field with Hall of Famers Wade Boggs, Rollie Fingers, Todd Helton, Fergie Jenkins, Tony La Russa, Scott Rolen and Joe Torre will serve as managers and coaches as two dozen former big leaguers take the field. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Samantha Kilts & 44 year old Kristopher Kovacks, of Smyrna, for Trespass, Criminal Mischief, and Petit Larceny after an investigation into a trespass complaint. It is alleged that Kovack and Kilts unlawfully went on the property of the victim, stole, and damaged items. Kovack and Kilts were arrested and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Governor Hochul has been pushing for new laws to crack down on auto insurance fraudulent claims that have been driving up the price of New York insurance Policies above what drivers in other states are paying:

Hochul said that the State Florida implemented a series of reforms to crack down on insurance fraud, knocking down insurance costs by about 20% for their driver in the last 2 years, she is urging the legislature to pass similar laws by the end of this session in June.


Greater Opportunities of Broome and Chenango County has been awarded $9 million in grant funding for a new 20-unit residential housing project in Norwich. The development will be located at the former Flanagan Field on Plymouth Street, $8 million from the State Homes and Community Renewal Home-ARP and $1 million from a Chenango County Infrastructure Grant. The project calls for a 20-unit residential development that will be ADA compliant, Greater Opportunities will enter into a purchase agreement with the Norwich City School District to acquire the land after a survey is performed.


The Oneonta Town Board will hold a Public Hearing on April 8th regarding Plans to build an artificial intelligence data center at 359 County Road 9, which were put on hold following a 1 year moratorium on the project. Town Residents submitted a petition with over 700 signatures opposing the project by Eco-Yotta.


The State Cannabis Advisory Board and The State Office of Cannabis Management announced the launch of the second application round for the Community Reinvestment Program Grants, continuing New York's effort to reinvest adult-use cannabis tax revenue into communities disproportionately impacted by past federal and state drug policies. This grant opportunity has a minimum of $5 million to award and up to $15 million, Interested applicants can apply for the Community Reinvestment Grants at cannabis.ny.gov/reinvestment.


The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum today announced that artifacts from Team Venezuela, have been acquired by the Hall, after Venezuela’s 3-2 win over Team USA, to win the World Baseball Classic Tuesday night in Miami Florida. The Museum acquired Helmet worn by WBC Most Valuable Player Maikel Garcia in the championship game, Venezuela-themed shoes worn by closer Danny Palencia in the championship game, Batting gloves worn by Eugenio Suárez when he hit the game-winning double. Other artifacts were acquired from manager Omar López, Wilyer Abreu & Salvador Perez

For the entire month of March The Delaware Valley Humane Society will be having a Can & Bottle drive where people are encouraged to drop off bags of redeemable cans & bottle at the shelter, pick ups can be arranged for those within 8 miles of our shelter with 10 or more bags to pick up, call the shelter to make arrangements at (607) 563-7780. The shelter will also accept dry dog food, canned dog and cat food, cleaning supplies, such as Fabulosa and bleach, and Clorox wipes.


Delaware County Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets in Delaware County.
