Governor Cuomo signed an executive order to expedite the freedom of information law appeals process. The order fast-tracks FOIL appeals by requiring that all state agencies file notice of an appeal, settle the record on appeal, and file a brief within 60 days, absent extraordinary circumstances outside agency control. The Governor will introduce legislation in the upcoming session that encompasses the order, while also correcting the serious flaws of 2 Assembly Bills.
State Police arrested 48-year-old George Velten of Guilford for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, after Velten was stopped during a road check on County Route 35 in the Town of Guilford. Velten’s license showed that he had 12 suspensions on 10 different dates, he was arraigned at the Town of Guilford court and remanded to the Chenango County jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 property bond.
90% of New Yorkers say they are somewhat concerned, 60 % say they are very concerned, that another terrorist attack will happen in New York in the near future, according to a new Sienna College poll released today. 63% said they have not changed their lifestyle out of fear of a terrorist attack. By a 52-39 percent margin, voters oppose allowing Syrian refugees to come to the United States at this time. 90% also believe that corruption in Albany is still a serious problem, and by a 3-to-1 margin, voters say new laws are needed to prevent further corruption in state government. 2/3rds also agree with Attorney General Eric Schneiderman that daily fantasy sports games are gambling and illegal in New York.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies arrested 28-year-old Benjamin Nobel of Meridale for driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana, plus several traffic summons related to the accident. Nobel was arranged in the Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. Noble is to re-appear in the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
State Police arrested 25-year-old Dustin Phillips of Binghamton for criminal possession of a weapon, after troopers responded to assist an Environmental Conservation Officer who was out with three men shooting on state lands in the Town of Kirkwood. An investigation determined that Phillips and two other men where shooting shotguns at targets, Phillips is on parole and also is a convicted felon who cannot legally possess firearms; he faces court action on Tuesday.

Former State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam were found guilty Friday of 8 counts of bribery, extortion and conspiracy. Dean Skelos was found guilty of using his power as Senate Majority Leader to get no show jobs to his son Adam. The conviction means that Skelos has been removed from the Senate seat that he held onto after resigning as Senate Leader in May.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer and Governor Cuomo announced a push to prevent known or suspected terrorists from purchasing guns in New York State. Schumer commented at a Press Conference this weekend:

The Oneonta Department of Public Service will be constructing drainage improvements along the southbound lane of West Street between Hartwick Drive & Ravine Parkway beginning Monday morning at 7:00 AM. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is preparing for one of the season’s signature events: Hall of Fame Classic Weekend, set to return over Memorial Day Weekend. The 2016 Classic will be held on Saturday, May 28 at Doubleday Field. New in 2016, the Classic moves to 1:00 PM, with the popular Home Run Derby starting at noon. State Police arrested 19-year-old Elizabeth Grace of Palm Beach, Florida for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Possessing a Controlled Substance in a Non-Original Container. The arrest followed a traffic stop for speeding, at about 110 mph, on I-88 in the Town of Maryland. Grace is accused of unlawfully possessing Amphetamine pills, Adderall pills, Ritalin pills, marihuana cigarettes and other drug related items, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on bail pending future court action.

Tickets will be available online and in hundreds of stores across New York. 5 products will be sold online at www.etix.com, the State Fair runs from August 27th to September 7th this year.

The governor’s office said that the Direct impact was $62.4 billion; Indirect impact was at $18.5 billion, which is the secondary benefit to suppliers of goods and services, like food wholesalers that provide goods to a New York restaurant. The Impact to local economy is tabulated at $19.2 billion, which includes the incomes of those who directly or indirectly work for businesses that earn money from tourism. Tourism ranks 2nd to agriculture as the state’s top industries.
The State Environmental Facilities Corporation & the State Department of Health announced that $50 million in water infrastructure grants is now available for local governments for critical water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades. This year, $30 million will be available for wastewater infrastructure projects and $20 million will be available for drinking water projects, Applications for both are available and due by September 4th at efc.ny.gov/NYSwatergrants
47 Baseball Hall of Famers are expected to return to Cooperstown for this year’s annual induction ceremony weekend, July 24th through the 27th. 2015 inductees Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martínez and John Smoltz, will be enshrined on Sunday, July 26th with the Induction Ceremony beginning at 1:30 PM.
Pitchers Luis Cessa and Paul Sewald along with infielder Josh Rodriguez and outfielder Brandon Nimmo will represent the Binghamton Mets at the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Classic in Portland Maine on Wednesday, July 15th. It’s the 3rd straight season the B-Mets will send at least 4 players to the annual event. Nimmo is a former 1st round draft pick by the New York Mets, this will be his 3rd straight All-Star game selection.

Broome County fire investigators have released the names of the 4 family members who died in a house fire on State Line Road in the town of Vestal Thursday morning. 33-year-old Nicole Tarbox, her son, 13-year old Evyn, and her two daughters, 9-year-old Mya, and 3-year old Mariah were killed, 15 year old Shawn Tarbox survived after he jumped out of a 2nd floor window. Investigators believe that the fire originated in the first floor kitchen near a stairway, which trapped family members inside.

Cuomo's plan is to raise the minimum wage to $10.50 an hour for the majority of the state & $11.50 an hour for New York City.
The Cash Coalition & the United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties announced that there are free tax preparation services available this tax season for eligible families. United Way Spokesperson Cheri Albrecht explains:

Agriculture contributed $37.6 billion to New York's economy in 2012, an increase of more than 22% from 2007, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The state ranks in the top 10 nationwide for milk and other dairy production, as well as wine, apples, maple syrup and other products. Milk is the state's largest commodity, with $2.4 billion in sales, followed by grains, peas and beans at $856 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 2012 census. New York also ranked first nationwide in the production of yogurt, cottage cheese and sour cream, and was the second-largest wine producer in 2013, with 34 million gallons. The state also ranked second nationally in maple syrup production.
State Police from Sidney arrested 29-year-old Bradley Brundege of Walton for the felony of Aggravated DWI with a reportable B.A.C. result of .18%. Troopers observed Brundege drive into a rest area and stop off of County Route 23 in Sidney, Troopers determined that Brundege was driving while intoxicated, the charge became a felony due to a prior DWI conviction. Brundege was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 cash bail.
The Delaware County District Attorney’s Investigators arrested 27-Year-Old Jessica Rodriguez of Sidney, for Offering a False Instrument for Filing, Welfare Fraud & Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Rodriguez is accused of receiving $754 in Public Assistance Benefits to which she was not entitled. Rodriguez pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud in the 5th degree, was fined $250.00 and ordered to pay restitution.
The 53rd General Clinton canoe regatta will be held memorial day weekend & the regatta committee will meet tonight, at 7:00 PM at the Highway & Bar & Grill on Route 7 in Bainbridge. All paddlers & area residents are invited to attend & participate.
