Governor Hochul announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended today through Tuesday, May 31, to ease travel throughout Memorial Day weekend. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or in cases of Emergency,
NYSEG & Rochester Gas and Electric announced plans to increase rates, in order to continue to switch over to clean energy resources and update their facilities. The “Reliable Energy NY” plan proposes a rate structure that would add $10-18 to the average electric or gas residential customer’s monthly, which is a 13 to 22% increase on each bill. The new rates are proposed to into effect on May 1, 2023, they must get approval from the Department of Public Service before implementing a rate increase.
The Rolling Antiquers Annual Antique Auto Show & Flea Market will beheld Saturday & Sunday at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich. Each Days show runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with Hundreds of show cars, motorcycles, tractors, antique engines & military vehicles scheduled to be on display. Sidney Police Department arrested a Springfield Center woman for several charges during a traffic stop, after an officer observed a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. The officer attempted a traffic stop, before the officer could exit the vehicle, the suspect took off. The officer pursued the vehicle onto I-88, the suspect stopped, put the vehicle in reverse and backed into the officer's vehicle, & left again. A 2nd officer joined the pursuit, & eventually, police arrested 19 year old Isabella Lepetich, who was charged with Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Operating without inspection, Illegal signal from parked position & Failure to obey a police officer. Lepetich was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & was released & was ordered to appear in court at a later date. The investigation is still on going and more charges are expected to be filed.
The Resilient Sidney Open House drew about 35 to 40 village residents to the Civic Center yesterday for a look at prospective projects for Areas of Keith Clark Park & where Housing was taken down from flood damage. Sidney Village Mayor Andy Matviak told WCDO News what is next:

The General Clinton Canoe Regatta festivities begins tonight with the Generation Gap Races, youth races & activity at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, Regatta Chairman John Harmon said that the biggest change this year, is having no activities on Monday, Memorial Day:

Today & tomorrow, Sidney Central School District Alumni will join retiring band director Gregg Norris on stage for 2 evenings of music. Both concerts begin at 7:00 pm in the Sidney High School Auditorium and are free and open to the public. Tonight's concert will highlight the regionally known jazz program, Saturday evening will feature the Concert Band program. Sidney Alumni from as far back as 1973 are scheduled to participate.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame Classic returns for the 12th edition Saturday at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown. 7 Hall of Famers will be joined by players representing all 30 Major League Baseball teams, for the 7-inning legends game. Tickets will be available for purchase at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s Ticket Booth today and at the Doubleday Field Will Call tent beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday.
The American Red Cross Continues to schedule Blood Drives as supplies are expected to remain low through the upcoming summer months. The Annual Dedication will be held tomorrow morning for the Sidney Veteran's Memorial Park, will be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 11:00 AM, it was moved due to expected inclement weather. The State Police BCI Unit seized methamphetamine, illegal firearms and weapons from a home in the town of Union earlier this week. On Sunday, Troopers were dispatched to an argument with “shots fired” on Spring Street. 20 year old Carson Vanco of Endicott, was in possession of an assault rifle, a disguised homemade gun, brass knuckles, plus methamphetamine and components to make methamphetamine. Vanco was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, manufacturing Methamphetamine, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
NYSEG will be raising electric & natural gas rates starting this Sunday, after a rate increase request was approved by the Public Service Commission, who authorized the 3-year rate hike plan in November 2020. NYSEG's customers will pay more than $43 annually in higher electricity bills, their gas customers will pay about $14.40 more per year.
Broome County Leaders & the Broome County Health Department are encouraging Broome County residents to help Shed the Meds during Saturday's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The DEA Take Back Day encourages people to get rid of expired & unwanted prescription medication properly, before they can get into the wrong hands. Residents will be able to dispose of the meds at the Broome County Health Department.
The Jericho Arts Council Regatta Row display of Adirondack chairs and the new "Story poles" will be on the streets of Downtown Bainbridge for the next several weeks, organizer Rachel Hares explains:

State Police responded to a Mercy Flight Helicopter crash in the town of Elba in Genesee County Tuesday afternoon at around 1:00 PM. Mercy Flight Bell 429 helicopter was on a training mission during the time of the collision. Mercy Flight pilot, 60 year old James Sauer of Churchville 60 year old Stewart Dietrick of Prosper, Texas were pronounced deceased at the scene. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be assisting in this investigation. The investigation is continuing into the cause of the accident.
Dr. William LeCates will leave his position as president and chief operating officer of Bassett Medical Center and northern region executive for Bassett Healthcare Network, His last day will be April 30. LeCates has been a physician for 20 years, LeCates will remain on Bassett’s medical staff and serve as an advisor to Bassett President & CEO Dr. Tommy Ibrahim.
Otsego Express announced that, with help from Otsego County, public transit will be free for 6 months, starting May 1st. All passengers can board Otsego Express buses without paying a fare, as an alternative to rising gas prices. Otsego County is funding this program with Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the State Liquor Authority is now accepting applications for new permits to allow craft beverage manufacturing businesses the ability to manufacture and sell alcoholic beverages while their liquor license is pending. These new permits can generally be processed and approved in less than 30 days, compared to applications for new licenses that currently take an average of six months, expediting the time it takes to open a new craft beverage manufacturing businesses throughout the state.
The State Health Department is warning New Yorkers about a potentially deadly virus found in ticks in New York State. This year, Ticks may carry the Heartland virus, which causes symptoms in humans such as fever, nausea, diarrhea, joint pain, and low white blood cells. The State Health Department reports that in tick-infested areas, avoid contact with soil, leaf litter and vegetation, Wear light-colored clothing with a tight weave, Wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Consider using insect repellent, Avoid contacting vegetation & Avoid sitting directly on the ground or on stone walls.
The Joint Commission on Public Ethics passed a motion Friday that orders former governor Andrew Cuomo to repay royalties from his book deal. The move is the second time the commission has ordered Cuomo to repay his earnings from the book, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.” JCOPE gave Cuomo approval to write the book in July 2020, he earned $5.1 million from the book, but an investigation by the State Assembly found that the book was written in part by state employees during their off-hours. Following the investigation, JCOPE rescinded the book’s approval. Cuomo’s team denied the allegations.
Beginning April 1st, the State DEC will be adopting changes to fishing regulations that will make fishing easier for New Yorkers. Changes include year-round fishing for Atlantic salmon as well as other lake and pond fish. Ice fishing will also be permitted on all waters, except for a few limitations. There are also new season opening dates for several species of fish, as well as changes to harvest sizes. The full list is available on the DEC's website.

After a 2 year absence, The National Baseball Hall of Fame announces the return of the 2022 Hall of Fame Classic, scheduled for Saturday, May 28th at Doubleday Field. Hall of Fame members Wade Boggs, Fergie Jenkins, Jack Morris, Tim Raines and Ted Simmons will be joined by at least one additional Hall of Famer as well as recently retired players representing all 30 major league teams for a seven-inning legends game at Cooperstown’s historic Doubleday Field. Tickets are available via phone at 1-888-325-0470 or by a link at baseballhall.org. The schedule features a pre-game Home Run Contest at noon, followed by the first pitch at 1:05 p.m.

The State Health Department reported that 119,475 were tested for COVID 19 with 2,013 positives on Saturday, for a positivity rate of 1.68%. Patient Hospitalization are down to 900 statewide, with 159 ICU Patients, with 77 on a ventilators. New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 12
Delaware County Public Health reported 47 new cases of COVID 10 for the week of March 12th through the 18th. The County has had 15 deaths attributed to the virus since January 1st.
