Bainbridge Firefighters responded to a blaze at 104 County Route 38 shortly after Midnight last night. Bainbridge Fire Chief Fred Bell told WCDO News the the house was not occupied, & was completely destroyed, Bainbridge was assisted by firefighters from Masonville, Sidney, Coventry, Guilford, Mount Upton & Afton, there were no injuries reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office announced that the County's #5 Most Wanted Fugitive was arrested in the Town of Union. 42 year old Matthew Knapp of Kirkwood was tracked down by the Warrants Division & was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility. Knapp had been on the run since May 16th, when he absconded from probation for a Sex Offender Registration Violation, as he failed to update his address with the State Sex Offender Registry Under the Sex Offender Registration Act.
An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held in Oneonta Saturday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Southside Mall YMCA. Appointments can be made with the Red Cross Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS
The Chenango Health Department will hold a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs cats & ferrets Saturday at the Greene Ball Flats from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Pre-registration is required at 607-337-1673, a $5 Donation is suggested.

Governor Hochul signed legislation to add new 28 judges across the state to reduce the case backlog in family and civil courts. Locally, the new legislation will create a new judge position in Chenango County, with an expedited election process to fill the position. Currently the county is served by Chenango County Judge Frank Revoir, for criminal, family and surrogate court matters.
The State Labor Department reported that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 0.1%, to 8,379,000 in June. The State's unemployment rate held steady at 4.2% in June, the statewide labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3%.
53 Baseball Hall of Fame members are expected to return to Cooperstown this weekend as they induct 2024 electees Adrian Beltré, Todd Helton, Jim Leyland and Joe Mauer into the Hall of Fame. The Class of 2024 will be inducted on Sunday at the Clark Sports Center beginning at 1:30 PM, it will air live on MLB Network.

"Finn" was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia last year, he will require Chemotherapy & a bone marrow transplant to treat the aggressive cancer. Chad Nightengale is an area coach who is familiar with Finn, and he is hoping for a large turnout to help with the family's medical expenses with a variety of activities:

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 50 year old Ashraf Moussa of Schuyler Lake on 9 counts of possession of a forged instrument. Moussa is accused of utilizing forged documents and licenses to buy and sell vehicles for profit. A search warrant was executed at the defendant's residence where numerous other forged documents were located and seized, he is being held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Court action.

The State Labor Department Statewide Unemployment rate decreased 1/10th of 1% in July from 7.7% to 7.6%. Outside of New York City, the unemployment rate decreased from 5.5% to 5.4%. The State Economy added over 43,800 jobs in July, bringing the private sector Job Count to just under 7.5 million, it had dropped to 6.9 million following the shutdown from the pandemic, prior to that the job count was more than 8.2 million.
New York Lottery Announced the Launch of Additional Powerball Drawings on Monday Nights, starting August 23rd, with sales beginning on Sunday, August 22nd. The new drawing joins the lineup of Powerball drawings currently held Wednesday and Saturday evenings. More information is available at nylottery.ny.gov.
Governor Cuomo signed legislation requiring banking institutions that maintain checking accounts to pay checks in the order they are received. If a bank receives a check for a greater amount of money than the balance in the account, it may decline to pay the check. However, the banking institution must honor any smaller checks that can be paid with the existing account balance. Previously, if a banking institution receives a check for a larger amount of money than the funds in the account, it will not only dishonor that check, but all subsequent checks, even if there are sufficient funds in the account to pay them.
Commerce Chenango announced that the effort to strengthen broadband across Chenango County will be getting a $1.9 million assist from the New York State Office of Community Renewal. The Chenango County Board of Supervisors accepted the Community Development Block Grant recently through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or "CARES" Act. Funds will be used to bolster wireless internet in the City of Norwich and the Town of New Berlin, plans call for the installation of wireless antennas atop already existing tall structures within the municipalities.
Sidney Police Department responded early this morning to the area of Great American for a report of a person causing a disturbance. Upon arrival officers located 38 year old Bobbi Worden, who is alleged to have caused damage to a vehicle, she became combative when officers attempted to take her into custody. Worden was charged with Criminal mischief, Resisting arrest, Obstruction of governmental administration, she was released on an appearance ticket for Village of Sidney Court at a later date.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Joseph Henahan of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court yesterday, to 10 years in State Prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, after being found guilty of 1st degree attempted rape , for trying to arrange a sexual encounter with an 8 year old through social media. The FBI & State Police assisted with the investigation.
The Chenango Blues Festival begins tonight in the East Park in Downtown Norwich with a free show starting at 7:00 PM tonight, with Friday Night's concert at the Chenango County Fair Grounds in Norwich, the Friday show is Free to all but unvaccinated individuals should wear a mask and social distance. The Sherburne EMS Squad received a gift from Chobani, a $150,000 ambulance. The new Ambulance was unveiled Tuesday at the Chobani plant, Sherburne Mayor Bill Acee told WCDO News recently that the old ambulance had numerous problems that would cost about $10,000 to repair, and fundraising efforts were underway to get a new ambulance, which will cover the Village of Sherburne and the Fire Departments that protects 3 adjacent townships.

Delaware County Sheriff’s
Department arrested a Sidney Center woman at the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office in Medford, Oregon. 32 year old
Chellie Warner of Sidney Center was wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Delaware
County Court for failure to appear for a scheduled conference and sentencing
following her guilty plea for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Warner was originally arrested by Delaware
County Sheriff’s Office in December 2017, on a Grand Jury Sealed Indictment
Warrant for various drug charges for selling Fentanyl laced Heroin. Warner was returned to Delaware County
Wednesday she was remanded to the Delaware County jail without bail.
Changes in the length of the statute of limitations recently
passed in the New York Child Victim’s Act, have led to hundreds of lawsuits
being filed against members of the clergy & educators who have been accused
or convicted of rape or sexual abuse.
Former Afton Principal David Curtis now faces a lawsuit after he pleaded
guilty for sexually abusing a teenage student over 30 years ago; his accuser
has brought a lawsuit against him and the Afton school district. Curtis pleaded guilty to Endangering the
Welfare of a child by Sexual Contact, under the terms of a plea bargain
arrangement in 1991.
State Senator Jim Seward will be in Oneonta tomorrow for a
Justice for Gillian Gibbons rally at Muller Plaza in downtown Oneonta. Senator Seward opposes the potential release
of David Dart, who fatally stabbed Gibbons in the Oneonta Municipal Parking
Garage in 1989. Other expected to participate
include former Oneonta City Police Chief Joseph Redmond, and Gillian’s sister
Jennifer Kirkpatrick. The rally will be
held at 3:00 PM.

34 year old Brock Likens of Greene was sentenced in a
federal court room to 78 months in prison for distributing, receiving and
possessing child pornography. Likens
admitted that he knowingly received and distributed child pornography over the
internet using peer-to-peer file sharing software. An undercover law
enforcement officer downloaded 87 child pornography video files from Likens’
computer that he shared with others. A
subsequent search of Likens’ house revealed that he possessed on various
devices, 31 video files and 24 images of child pornography.
The Broome County Sheriff's Department is looking for a
person who crashed a vehicle into a home at 11 Old State Road in Port Dickinson
late last night. The car was left at the
scene, the driver left the scene, the investigation is continuing.
Governor Cuomo announced he has received and reviewed a

include menthol in the ban on the sale of flavored electronic cigarettes and

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that on Thursday September 19th, local law enforcement agencies joined forces in the Village of Sidney area to conduct a multi-agency traffic enforcement detail, which resulted in 43 traffic summonses. Also, 36 year-old Mitchell Knapp of Masonville was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and Violation of Probation. Knapp was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was held without bail pending further court action.

Department arrested a Sidney Center woman at the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office in Medford, Oregon. 32 year old
Chellie Warner of Sidney Center was wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Delaware
County Court for failure to appear for a scheduled conference and sentencing
following her guilty plea for Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance. Warner was originally arrested by Delaware
County Sheriff’s Office in December 2017, on a Grand Jury Sealed Indictment
Warrant for various drug charges for selling Fentanyl laced Heroin. Warner was returned to Delaware County
Wednesday she was remanded to the Delaware County jail without bail.
Changes in the length of the statute of limitations recently
passed in the New York Child Victim’s Act, have led to hundreds of lawsuits
being filed against members of the clergy & educators who have been accused
or convicted of rape or sexual abuse.
Former Afton Principal David Curtis now faces a lawsuit after he pleaded
guilty for sexually abusing a teenage student over 30 years ago; his accuser
has brought a lawsuit against him and the Afton school district. Curtis pleaded guilty to Endangering the
Welfare of a child by Sexual Contact, under the terms of a plea bargain
arrangement in 1991.
State Senator Jim Seward will be in Oneonta tomorrow for a
Justice for Gillian Gibbons rally at Muller Plaza in downtown Oneonta. Senator Seward opposes the potential release
of David Dart, who fatally stabbed Gibbons in the Oneonta Municipal Parking

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, Walton Village Police, New York State Police, & several local Emergency Squads responded Thursday to a head-on collision, with 5 victims and 1 entrapment, on County Highway 21 near the intersection of Russell Road in the Town of Walton. The Investigation by Sheriff's Deputies determined that 42 year old Jeremy Shaw of Walton was driving a pickup truck when he crossed over the center line and struck a SUV head on driven by 43 year old Michael Franzese of Pearl River. Franzese was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton with head and facial injuries and was later transferred to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, 41 year old Diane Franzese, 12 year old Anthony Franzese and 10 year old Angelina Franzese were also transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, they suffered various injuries and were treated and released. Jeremy Shaw sustained injuries to his head and lower extremities, as well as possible internal injuries, and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Governor Cuomo announced that teams from FEMA have begun Joint Public Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessments in 8 counties impacted by severe flooding in early August. The assessments will determine if the total amount of damage costs meets the $28.29 million requirement for federal aid, if so, a disaster declaration will be granted and FEMA funding would be available to support infrastructure repair. Broome, Chenango, & Delaware Counties are included locally. The heavy rain storms and resulting flooding caused significant damage to roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. state & local officials believe that the total costs meet the federal threshold for a disaster declaration.

Norwich Police & the Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Joshua Harrington & 29 year old Coy Biviano, for the alleged sales of heroin and cocaine. Both were charged with the Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, they were arraigned in Norwich City Court. Harrington was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail, while Biviano is being held without bail.
State Police Superintendent George Beach today reminded the public that there is only one week remaining to apply for the new State Trooper entrance examination, which will be held this fall. Online applications for the exam must be submitted before September 1, 2017, and interested candidates can sign up at www.nytrooper.com. The exam will be held on October 7, October 14, October 21, and October 28, 2017, at several convenient locations around the state.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, State Police and the Massachusetts DEA Task Force today announced the indictment of more than 2 dozen people for their roles in an alleged national heroin smuggling ring. The investigation, seized more than 33 kilos of heroin and 2 kilos of Fentanyl worth about $13 Million dollars, plus weapons & vehicles, The operation netted alleged dealers and traffickers in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and New Jersey, it is one of the largest heroin seizures ever in New York and is the single largest single seizure in the 46-year history of the state's Organized Crime Task Force.
Federal Prosecutors last month announced charges against three members of the Sex Money Murder gang of the Bronx, which included Corey Brown, Josnel Rodriguez & Christopher Canada, for racketeering, firearms charges, & for the murder of Vincent Davis in July of 2012. Rodriguez & Brown were brought into court, but Canada was on the run from law enforcement, until he was apprehended by US Marshals & Oneonta Police in a Division Street Apartment yesterday afternoon. Canada was apprehended without incident & was returned to New York City to face prosecution.
State Police responded to a car & tractor trailer fatal crash on State Route 90 in the Town of Homer. A 61 year old Cortland man was driving a Subaru southbound, he drifted into the northbound lane and struck a tractor trailer driven by 48 year old Michael Gross of Norwich. Police said that the Subaru spun off the southbound shoulder and came to rest, the tractor trailer crossed over the southbound lanes and came to rest in a swamp, diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway, and the tractor began to burn. The unidentified Cortland man was declared dead at the scene, Gross was transported to Upstate Medical for non-life threatening injuries. The deceased driver’s name is not being released pending family notification.
Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney will hold their 2nd annual Health Fair tomorrow, which will give the community an opportunity to meet with staff, according to spokesperson Amy Beveridge:

Sidney Village Police arrested 62 year old Michael Connors of Sidney Center, for Driving While Intoxicated, and driving with a BAC of .08 or higher, in the village of Sidney on September 9th. Connors faces court action on the charges at a later date.

The State DEC announced that early bowhunting seasons for deer in New York State will be starting soon. Early bow season for deer begins in the Northern Zone at sunrise on Tuesday, September 27, and continues through October 21. In the Southern Zone, early bow season for deer and bear begins Saturday, October 1 and continues through November 18. Deer hunters should also be aware that the application deadline for Deer Management Permits is October 1. More information is available at dec.ny.gov.
