State Police report that the remains have been tentatively identified as those of Brian Austin of Syracuse. The remains were found by a NYSEG worker near a state park in Ulysses in Tompkins County Wednesday; Austin had been reported missing from the Syracuse area since 2011. The cause and manner of death are pending. The investigation is continuing.
Tomorrow is the National Take Back Collection for prescription drugs throughout the country. The events will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with DEA officials taking the unwanted collected prescriptions with them at the conclusion of the collections. Locally, collections will be at the Norwich City Police Department at 18 East Main Street, at the SUNY Oneonta Police Department at 1 Alumni Hall & with the Oneonta City Police department at 79 Main Street. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office will also be participating at the Plymouth and Guilford Fire Departments; they will still accept unused or unwanted medications at the Sheriff's Office at 279 County Road 46 in the Town of Norwich.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 16-year-old male youth from Plymouth Sunday afternoon, after he drove through a police road check in the town of Oxford. Deputies said that the youth had a 3-year-old passenger in the vehicle that was in an improper child restraint seat. The youth was charged with Felony Aggravated Driving while Intoxicated, Driving While Ability impaired by drugs and endangering the welfare of a child. The unidentified Teen was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $100 cash bail.
The Public Market in Norwich is now a year-round farmers market. The winter farmers market will run from November through May each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location will continue to be in East Side Park as long as the weather is temperate. State Police at Norwich arrested 24-year-old Patrice Ray of Plymouth for DWI and other vehicle and traffic law violations following an accident investigation in which Ray struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle on State Route 12 in Oxford. She will appear in town of Oxford court September 30th

The annual Chenango County Republican Committee Lobsterfest will be held this Sunday in Norwich. The event will run from 12:00 noon until 4:00 PM at the Canasawacta country club in Norwich, the event is a top fundraiser for republican candidates for a variety of races involving Chenango county offices.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 54 million has been awarded to 20 recipients to finance large scale solar energy projects across New York State. The new projects will add 64 megawatts to the state’s solar capacity and will make New York the leader in solar energy generation. The closest sites to the Southern Tier are Cornell University in Ithaca and SUNY Cortland. For more information on this plan, visit ny-sun.ny.gov
New York officials plan to overhaul the state’s psychiatric services over the next four years by consolidating 24 inpatient hospitals statewide into 15 regional centers and establishing more than two dozen outpatient service hubs. The consolidation plan, released by the Office of Mental Health on Wednesday, also includes closing psychiatric hospitals in Elmira and Binghamton in 2014. The plan is expected to save $20 million the first year. The state spends about $6.6 billion, including federal funds, annually on mental health treatment.
A Binghamton man was charged with felony second-degree strangulation following a dispute on Willow Street with a family member, according to Johnson City police. 33 year old Kareem A. Davis is accused of threatening to kill a woman, and then grabbing her by the neck and choking her, causing her to pass out. Davis was arraigned in village court and sent to the Broome County jail.

The clinics are for dogs, cats and ferrets.

The DEC has identified potential changes based on discussions with anglers, biologists, and fisheries managers. Now the DEC is seeking additional angler feedback. Many changes under consideration would eliminate special regulations that didn’t achieve their intended purpose. Highlights include increasing year-round trout fishing opportunities at specific streams and establishing catch-and-release fishing at a few additional streams. The Norwich City Police Department are removing the body of a woman found near the Norwich Wal-Mart, in an area that they have been searching in since they found the gold Pontiac owned by 51 year old Krista Kosowky of Norwich. Kosowsky was reported missing by her husband after failing to show up for work on Friday in Clinton, a Police Canine unit discovered the body in water near a railroad right-of-way this morning, the woman’s identity and cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
The national weather service in Binghamton has once again posted a Flood Warning today through tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, for in the area of the Chenango River At Norwich. Officials said that the Chenango River At Norwich Will Continue To Recede Today And Tonight, Before Dropping Below Flood Stage On Thursday Morning. Some flooding may still be experienced today at on the Streets and in the yards Of Homes On East Main Street Near The Chenango County Fairgrounds as well as Within The Fairgrounds. East Main Street was reopened to traffic this morning, but the 2nd annual music & balloon festival scheduled for tomorrow July 4th at the Chenango county fairgrounds in Norwich has been cancelled due to the flooding, organizers will announce alternate plans for the event shortly.
Oneonta will be the site for the annual hometown 4th of July celebration tomorrow. Activities are scheduled from noon until dark in Neawha Park, wrapping up with the annual fireworks display at about 9:20 PM. More information is available at hometown4th.com.
The New York State DOT will hold a public information meeting on July 10th to discuss a project to replace a bridge on State Route 30 & 206 over the East Branch Delaware River in the Town of Colchester. The meeting will be held at the Colchester Town Hall located at 72 Tannery Road, Colchester, at 7:00 PM. The bridge has been in use for 60 years and DOT inspectors have determined that it needs to be replaced. Three alternatives will be discussed at the meeting.

Sidney - Parade to form at the Moose Club parking lot on East Main St. at 8:15AM with a brief ceremony in Prospect Hill Cemetary. A ceremony will be held on the lawn of the Sidney Memorial Public Library. Guest speaker with will be Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak.
Sidney Center - Parade will form at 10:30AM at the corner of routes 23 & 35. Proceed to the former site of the Methodist Church for the service and then to the cemetary.
Masonville - Parade will begin at about 12:00pm. Sidney High School Band to arrive about 11:45am. Following the parade, there will be a chicken BBQ.
Guilford - Parade line up at 7:30am at the end of School St. moving out at 8:00am. Ceremony to be held at the park on route 35.
Afton - Parade starting at 10am at the corner of Main st. and Pleasant St. The Afton VFW Post 3529 will be holding a pancake breakfast from 7a-11a at the VFW on Main. St.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a 2-car accident on County Route 10 in East Meredith. 32-year-old Michael Tarzia of Delhi was traveling east when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 24 year old Kayla Constable of Delhi. Constable was charged with DWI & leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident, she was released and is ordered to appear at a later date in the Town of Meredith Court

Chenango county sheriff’s deputies arrested Trinity Hafner of Norwich for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle during a traffic stop on State Highway 12 in North Norwich. Deputies found a hypodermic needle on the floor of the vehicle and a syringe was found within the vehicle containing heroin. Hafner was released on an appearance ticket & will appear in the Town of North Norwich Court on a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Kevin Urgo of McDonough for Felony Driving While Intoxicated, Felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Urgo was found by Sheriff’s Deputies stopped in the middle of a roadway, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash bail. Urgo is to appear in the Town of Preston Court on a later date.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Matthew Towndrow of Preston on an active arrest warrant issued of the Town of North Norwich Court for resisting arrest on April 16th. Towndrow was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail and is scheduled re-appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.
Tomorrow from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Norwich Police Department will be accepting unwanted, unused or outdated prescription medications at the rear of the Police Station located at 18 East Main Street, as part of the national “Take Back” initiative. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will also participate with collections at the Sheriff’s Office Sub-Station at the Coventry Town Hall on State Route 235, and at the North Norwich fire Station on State Route 12, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday.
