State Police in Oneonta responded to a reported home invasion robbery at 1829 Stone Fort Road in the Town of Kortright, Thursday. Investigators discovered that a masked male subject forced his way into the residence at around 2:00 AM and assaulted the 81 year old sleeping occupants by striking them with a long gun before leaving on foot, with an undetermined amount of cash. State Police are requesting anyone with information to contact the Oneonta BCI unit at 432-3211.
Downtown Oneonta will be packed Saturday for The 8th annual OH-Fest. The festival is co-sponsored by Hartwick College & the State University of Oneonta; Main Street will be closed from 10:00 AM To 6:00 PM, between Chestnut Street and Ford Avenue, with a carnival scheduled between 1:00 and 5:00 PM. 4 bands will perform in a free concert in Neahwa Park between 6:00 and 10:00 PM.
Springbrook announced today that they would host a career fair on May 8th from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Civic Center. Springbrook will be opening two new Community Homes in Sidney, NY and they are looking for individuals to build new residential teams. State Troopers from Sidney arrested 27 year old Gene Casey of Vernon, Vermont and 27 year old Amanda Grondin of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of Marihuana. Casey was additionally charged with Speeding and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrests resulted from a traffic stop on I-88 in the Town of Bainbridge. Both subjects were issued Appearance Tickets returnable to the Town of Bainbridge Court on April 29th.
The Otsego county conservation association will hold their annual “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” garage sale on Saturday and Sunday. The event will be held at the farmers market building on Main Street in Cooperstown, the money raised will be used for conservation society programs throughout the year.
It’s “Recruit New York “ weekend, as volunteer fire departments look to increase their ranks. Locally, the Unadilla fire departmten will hold an open house from 11:00 to 2:00 at the fire house on Clifton street, the Borden Hose Fire Company of Rockdale & Mount Upton will hold an open house Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM; The Afton fire department will also be holding an open house at their station that will run from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday. The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested three defendants from Greene for Petty Larceny. Deputies responded to the Norwich Wal-Mart after an employee filed a complaint, charged were 41 year old Joanne Cutler, 18 year old Elizabeth Cutler & 20 year old Anthony Ruquet of Greene, All 3 were processed and released on appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
Sidney village officials announced that crews would pick up brush, leaves; grass clippings weed stalks and hedge trimmings starting Monday morning. Those items must be placed at the curb by 7:00 AM for pickup.
State Troopers in Deposit arrested 19 year old Giovanni Zito of Deposit, as an Illegal Alien. The arrest was the result of an investigation into an unrelated matter, Zito was delivered to Immigration Naturalization Service Agents and remanded to their custody.

The American cancer society is hosting their annual “Paint The Town Purple day” today throughout the Tri-Town Area.  Cancer society spokesperson Helen Gregory explains:

The annual tri-town relay for life will be held May 3rd & 4th at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, Gregory said that last year’s efforts raised about $100,000 dollars for the cancer society’s local efforts.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Kevin Urgo of McDonough for Felony Driving While Intoxicated, Felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.   Urgo was found by Sheriff’s Deputies stopped in the middle of a roadway, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash bail.  Urgo is to appear in the Town of Preston Court on a later date.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Matthew Towndrow of Preston on an active arrest warrant issued of the Town of North Norwich Court for resisting arrest on April 16th.  Towndrow was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail and is scheduled re-appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.


Tomorrow from 10:00am to 2:00pm, the Norwich Police Department will be accepting unwanted, unused or outdated prescription medications at the rear of the Police Station located at 18 East Main Street, as part of the national “Take Back” initiative.   The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office will also participate with collections at the Sheriff’s Office Sub-Station at the Coventry Town Hall on State Route 235, and at the North Norwich fire Station on State Route 12, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Saturday.
