Delaware County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched Monday
Morning to a 1 car property damage auto accident in the McDonald’s parking lot
in Delhi.   19 year-old Andrew Lyon of
East Meredith collided with a protective pylon located near the restaurant’s
drive-thru, he was charged with Aggravated DWI, with a Blood Alcohol Content
more than 3 times the legal limit.  Lyon
was also issued numerous tickets for other infractions; he was arraigned in the
Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility
on lieu of $1,000 Cash Bail pending action in Town of Delhi Court at a later
date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested William Hatton
of Oxford on a bench warrant issued by the Town of Norwich Court for the felony
of Grand Larceny.   Hatton was located
inside of a garage in Smithville at the residence and refused to come outside,
he was located hiding in a crawl space in the roof of the building & was
taken into custody, & was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court & was
remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,000 cash bail.

Chenango County Sheriff’s
Department arrested 22 year old Andrew Palmer of Norwich on a warrant issued by
the Chenango County Court for violating his terms of Probation for a prior
charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance; Palmer was remanded to
the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail.

Governor Cuomo announced that opioid overdose deaths among
New York State residents, outside New York City, declined 15.9 percent in 2018
compared to 2017, the first decrease in 10 years. Over 1,900 people died from
opioid overdoses last year.  The progress
is the direct result of recommendations from the New York State Heroin and
Opioid Task Force, which Governor Cuomo convened in 2016 & reconvened
earlier this year.  The full report is

Plans are underway to have the State Police in charge of
State Park Police, due to the soaring attendance at state parks.  Governor Cuomo stated that the change will
make it easier to deploy state resources to parks visited by 74 million people
a year; executive staff members will oversee the transition over the next 6
months.

The Chenango County Health Department will hold their last
Rabies vaccination clinic tomorrow in Norwich.
The clinic for dogs, cats & ferrets will be held from 9:30 to 11:00

"Breakfast With Santa" will be hosted by the
Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, it will
be held at the Norwich VFW at 61 East Main Street in Norwich.

Also, the Toys for Tots caravan of Tractor Trailers will
arrive at General Clinton Park at about 1:20 PM Saturday.

The Friends of Afton Parade Committee will hold the annual
Afton Christmas Parade Saturday.  The
Parade line-up will be at Corporate Park on Route 7 at 4:00 pm, the parade
starts at 5:00pm & Santa will be in the NBT Bank after the parade. Food and
hot beverages provided by the Chamber of Commerce and VFW, located inside the
VFW. Community bonfire located in the First Baptist Church Parking lot after

A Chenango County Grand Jury has indicted 39 year old Gary
Nichols of Norwich, in connection with the stabbing of a Norwich resident in
July, and escaping from police custody while being treated for injuries at
Chenango Memorial Hospital.  Nichols
faces court action on the Indictment shortly.

The United Way of Delaware & Otsego counties will hold
their "Community Matters Mixer" at Awestruck Ciders in Sidney
today.  The event will be held from 5:30
to 7:30 PM in the Sidney Industrial Park on Winkler Road, more information is

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34-year-old
Joshua Gardepe of East Branch, Wednesday on the charge of endangering the
welfare of a child, following an investigation of a report of child
maltreatment in the Town of Hancock. Gardepe was arraigned at Town of
Colchester Court and was released to appear at Town of Hancock Court at a later
date to answer the charge.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the arrest of
7 people on a variety of drug charges Thursday afternoon after the execution of
a search warrant at 37 Union Street in Sidney.
Deputies & Investigators dismantled a large scale Methamphetamine trafficking
operation, they arrested William McLean, Nikita Kingsbury, Trevor Light and an
unidentified 17 year male from Sidney, plus Jeffrey Robinson of Norwich, and Kevin
Mosher & Gina Overbey, who had no known address.  Sheriff Dumond comments:

Sheriff Dumond said that the arrests followed a month long investigation;
all were charged with 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
they were arraigned in Delhi Court & were remanded to the Delaware County
Jail without bail pending future court action, additional charges are anticipated
& the investigation is ongoing.
Sidney Village Police assisted at the scene.

State police are investigating a sewage spill that Thursday
afternoon at about 2:30 PM on County Route 10 near Elk Creek Road in the town
of Meredith.  The unidentified Driver of
the septic tanker was taken to Fox Hospital for evaluation, the driver rolled
the septic tanker, which spilled about 2,000 gallons of sewage, & struck a utility
Pole, temporarily knocking out phone & electric service in the east Meredith
area.  The septic tanker belonged to JB’s
Line Cleaning and Plumbing Service, the cause of the accident is under
investigation.

State Police responded to an early morning crash at
approximately 4:40 AM today on State Highway 12 near Phetteplace Road in the
town of Norwich.  The investigation
revealed that a 42-year-old male from Chittenango operating a delivery truck crossed
over the yellow lines & struck a tractor trailer head-on, the tractor trailer
burst into flames on contact.  The driver
of the tractor trailer was a 45-year-old male from Lisle.  Troopers reported that the delivery van driver
was transported to Wilson Memorial and later moved to Upstate Medical in
Syracuse, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor
trailer was not injured.   State route 12
was closed for about 7 hours for the investigation & clean up; the roadway
was re-opened shortly before noon.  More
information will be released as it is made available. The accident remains
under investigation.

Governor Cuomo today announced
that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended adding
14 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. In the
Southern Tier, the First Presbyterian Church of Deposit, Built in 1880, has
been recommended by the Governor.

Chenango County Officials announced that State Route 12
between Halfway House Road in the town of Norwich & State Route 220 is
closed, due to a 2 vehicle head on crash between a Van & A Tractor
Trailer.   The road will be closed for
several hours for the cleanup & investigation; motorists are advised to use
Chenango County Route 32 as a detour.

The Final concert of the Afton Sunday Summer Concert will be

This month’s installment of UHS Chenango Memorial’s 2019
Women’s Health Series will be about Pain Management tonight at Bohemian Moon,
103 east Main Street in Norwich. The event will begin at 6:00 PM; more

The Greater Chenango Cares event is underway through July
20th at the Norwich High School.  Vision
and medical needs are on a walk in basis. Veterinary & Dental appointments
are just about filled; there is no cost for participants. Military Service
personnel are trained physicians, dentists, and veterinarians; this is the 3rd
time that an IRT event has been held in Norwich.

Broome County Officials announced plans to upgrade the
Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena over the next several years.  The work include improvements to the
Concession and food service areas,  Sound
system upgrades, improvements to the Scoreboard, ribbon boards & exterior
marquee, plus Additional seating options with premium seating and party decks
& Parking solutions in the adjacent property.

Heather Bucalos of Sidney is a cancer survivor who has
organized several fundraisers for area cancer patients in recent years, now her
friends are organizing an event on her behalf following a reoccurrence of her
cancer.  Tiffiney Harp is a lifelong
friend of Bucalos, she told WCDO news about their plans for a "Glow

A Public Meeting on new Upper
Delaware River Policies will be held in Hancock on July 10th.  Representatives from the Delaware River Basin
Commission, State DEC, The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the DRBC
Subcommittee on Ecological Flows (SEF) will discuss new approaches to control
high water temperatures and reduce erratic water releases in the Upper Delaware
River tail waters.  The meeting on July
10th will begin at 10:30 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Friends of the Upper

The Sidney Community Band
Announced their 2019 Don Clayton Memorial Trailside Concert Series will be held
at the Pavillion at Keith Clark Park at 6:30 PM on wednesday nights, starting
July 10th with the Sidney Community Band.
Shows will be held each wednesday night through August 21st, All

Republican primary Results have been released; Town of
Sidney Clerk Primary was won by Sheila Paul over Lisa French 134 - 112. The
Broome County District Attorney Republican Primary was won by Paul Battisti by
a slim margin over Michael Korchak, in the Republican Primary for Norwich Mayor,
Shawn Sastri handily defeats incumbent
mayor Christine Carnrike  & North
Norwich Town Supervisor between Timothy Brown & Robert Wansor ended as a
tie, 51 votes each. The Republican primary for Town of Hancock Highway Superintendent
was won by Neil Emerich, Democratic Party Primaries for the Oneonta Common
Council, were won by Mark Davies in Oneonta’s 2nd ward & Katie Lapari Shue
won in the 4th Ward.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department executed a no knock
search warrant at 121 Ashcraft Road in the Town of Plymouth Tuesday. The search
warrant stemmed from an investigation involving the distribution of Crystal
Methamphetamine, Norwich Police assisted with the investigation and execution
of the search warrant.  The Narcotics
Division arrested 47 year old William Johnson and 35 year old Kelli Johnson for
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug
Paraphernalia, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The Sheriff’s Office
recovered Crystal Methamphetamine, packaging material, digital scales, cash,
and several firearms. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Tri Town Relay for Life will be held Friday June 7th at
General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, American Cancer Society Organizer Heather

Brewster said that they expect to raise about $50,000 with
this year's efforts for the American Cancer Society's programs.

Residents had to evacuate an apartment building at Mitchell
& State Streets in Norwich this morning, after a section of the outside
wall fell off.  No injuries were
reported, engineers will inspect the building to see if it will need to be torn
down.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise awareness and support
for Special Olympics New York will pass through Broome County today as the Olympics
Torch makes its way around New York State leading up to the Special Olympics
New York Summer Games, in Dutchess County June 14-15.  More than 75 members of local law enforcement
will participate starting at 2:00pm at Binghamton University, Peace Quad.   The Torch Run will conclude at Tully's on
the Vestal Pkwy East, with a reception for participants.

The 2019 Relay For Life of Chenango County Kickoff event
will be held today at 6:00 pm at the Community Room, at the Norwich YMCA.  The event is open to the public, Light
refreshments will also be served! The Chenango Relay For Life will be held at
East Main Street Park in Norwich, on Saturday, July 20th at 4:00 PM.

The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park announced that Phillip
Ginter is the new Executive Director, effective March 25th.   Binghamton Zoo members and visitors will be
able to meet Ginter on Grand Opening Day, April 20th and Members Only Night,
April 27th.   The Binghamton Zoo will be
open on the weekends only from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM starting March 16th, weather
