The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Sandell of New Lisbon following an investigation of a domestic dispute in the Town of New Lisbon. Sandell allegedly engaged in a physical domestic dispute while there were children present in the residence, he was held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment for Harassment & Endangering the Welfare of a minor.
The Delaware Valley Humane Society reminds area residents that there are 3 days left to make a donation to DVHS that will be matched by several area businesses through the Shelter Saviors program. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 182, Sidney NY 13838, the check must be dated by 12/31/25 for it to count. Links to other sites to donate with can be found at DVHumane.org. For ever dollar donate, the Shelter Saviors businesses will match it through December 31st.
The City of Oneonta announced that The Department of Public Works will be collecting Christmas trees beginning Monday, January 5th through the end of January 2026. Decorations, tinsel & electrical wires & bulbs should be removed.

The Legislation requires social media platforms that offer addictive feeds, auto play or infinite scroll to post warning labels on their platforms. Recent studies show that adolescents who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media face double the risk of anxiety and depression, About half claim that social media makes them feel worse about their bodies, and teenagers with the highest levels of social media use are nearly twice as likely to rate their overall mental health as poor or very poor.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56 year old Arthur Proctor of Richfield Springs for Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation of sexual abuse at a residence in the Town of Richfield over the summer of 2025. Proctor is accused of y subjecting a juvenile victim to unwanted sexual contact, Proctor was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment. An order of protection was requested on behalf of the victim.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Mark Cassaday of Oneonta, for Promoting Prison Contraband & Criminal Mischief at the Otsego County Jail. Sheriff investigators were notified by Correctional Facility staff that an inmate had intentionally damaged an outlet cover and used the broken pieces to fashion makeshift weapons. Cassady was processed before being returned to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

Sidney Police Department responded Friday Afternoon to a report of a male subject pointing a firearm at a female at the Circle Drive Apartment Complex. Officers arrested 21 year old Connor Steidle of South Carolina, a search of the residence resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine and 2 firearms, including a handgun. Steidle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, & 3 counts of Menacing. Steidle was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment, where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail. Sidney Police Department was assisted by State Police with this arrest.

State Police responded Saturday to 438 County Highway 11, Lot 30 in the town of Laurens for to assist at a fully engulfed fire. West Laurens Fire, West Oneonta Fire, Mount Vision Fire and Laurens Fire were already on scene attempting to get the fire under control. It was determined that the resident, 62 year old Roger Delong was still inside and was later located deceased. Investigators from New York State Fire and the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services responded to the location and will determine the cause of the fire.
Deposit Fire fighters, with help from surrounding fire departments responded to a blaze on North Sanford Road, early Sunday Morning. early reports suggest that occupants & pets escaped, more information will be released shortly by the Deposit Fire Department.

Last Wednesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol responded to the latest in a series of reported thefts of returnable cans and bottles from the BSA Troop 152 at Valley Christian Reformed Church in the Town of Chenango. A camera was installed inside the bin, investigators identified the suspect as 69 year old John Dubrava of Chenango Forks, who had previously been arrested in Chenango County in a similar case. Investigators located Dubrava and the vehicle from the thefts at a residence in Chenango Forks, he was charged with 3 Counts of Burglary & Petty Larceny.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies in the Town of Delhi and observed an E-Bike traveling on State Highway 10, which is prohibited and the operator was not wearing a helmet as required by law. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 51-year-old Daniel White of Meridale, White was charged with felony DWI, Unlawful Operation of an E-Bike on a Highway, Operating E-Bike while Impaired, White was released on an appearance ticket and traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $300 million in new state funding to support health care transformation projects across New York. The awards, made through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, to support 22 projects aimed at improving health information technology by expanding patient electronic medical records, strengthening cybersecurity and patient information security, and expanding telehealth services. Locally, UHS Hospitals will receive 1.5 million dollars to expand their Telehealth services.

41 Year old Trevor Metterhauser of Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to attempted aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children, and multiple counts of possession of child pornography. The case involves 2 small children, 1 in upstate New York & the Other in Texas. Metterhauser admitted that he conspired with Brandon Whitford to sexually exploit a 4-year-old girl in New York, In December 2022, he traveled to Texas to sexually assault a 2-year-old child and to record that abuse. When Metterhauser was arrested he had multiple electronic devices that contained the sexual assaults; and child pornography he obtained from the internet.

State Police today announced that they issued 13,036 tickets statewide during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period. Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, deployed DWI patrols, and ticketed drivers who were using handheld electronic devices. Troopers arrested 247 people for DWI and investigated 1,277 crashes, including 2 fatal crashes. In Troop C, there were 1232 ticketed, including 21 DWI Arrests, 434 for speeding, 41 for distracted driving & 35 violators of the "Move Over" Law.

Norwich Police responded Tuesday to the report of an Emu running loose on Chenango Avenue. The Emu was eventually contained to a fenced in yard on Francis Avenue, which kept the bird away from downtown traffic. The owner was notified, RTG of Norwich assisted in the effort and the emu was successfully brought inside the owner's trailer, where it was returned to its home in Bainbridge.

The Department has a total of 17,783 positive flu cases, Outside of New York City, week-over-week flu cases are up 114%, to 3,619. Hospitalizations doubled to 413 across the State. Current influenza information is available at health.ny.gov.

Attorney General Letitia James won a court order preventing the federal government from enforcing a provision in the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" that would strip Planned Parenthood of its Medicaid funds, jeopardizing health care for millions of low-income patients across the country. Attorney General James joined a coalition of 21 other attorneys general and the governor of Pennsylvania in suing the Department of Health and Human Services to block the provision, The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a ruling granting the coalition's motion for a preliminary injunction, ordering HHS to continue paying Medicaid funds to all states and clinics in the coalition.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 25 year old Alora Stott of Oneonta, she is wanted on active warrants for failing to appear for scheduled court dates at Sidney Village Court & Chenango County Court. Stott failed to appear in Sidney on charges of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, from a January 2025 arrest where Stott was in possession of a stolen checkbook and multiple forged and stolen checks. Stott is also wanted by Chenango County Court for failing to appear on charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, where she & 3 others were found in possession of a stolen Pickup Truck, Anyone with information regarding Stott’s whereabouts is asked to contact State Police at (607) 561-7400.

35 year old Kyron Milner of Binghamton was found guilty by a jury for 3rd degree Burglary and Resisting Arrest. On December 28, 2024, the Binghamton Police Department responded to a business alarm at 200 Court Street in the City of Binghamton. Security cameras inside the building showed Milner inside the secured premises, Milner falsely claimed to officers that he was an employee of the business, when he was not., he resisted arrest, but was taken into custody. Milner faces up to 7 years in State Prison upon sentencing at a later date.

The Town of Colchester Police Department arrested 3 individuals following an investigation into a series of burglaries and larcenies. 21 year old Donavin Brock of Colchester was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Conspiracy, Criminal Mischief, & Aggravated Harassment, 18 year old Tenlei Wood of Walton, was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, & Conspiracy and 40 year old Brooke Walley of Andes, was charged with Burglary, following the investigation by the Town of Colchester Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff's Office into multiple incidents involving stolen property, unlawful entry, and related crimes throughout the community. The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be pending, the State Police Forensic Identification Unit assisted in the processing of the crime scenes.

City of Oneonta officials are asking city residents around the SUNY Oneonta campus to Boil their water before using. on Wednesday the water system lost pressure due to the isolation of a broken water main on East Dormitory Road near the intersection of Bugbee Road on the SUNY Oneonta Campus, which could lead to untreated water containing harmful microbes. Stephen Filan pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon, stemming from the illegal possession of an assault rifle and related firearm components. On May 19th, Binghamton Police responded to a report of Filan in possession of a firearm, he was uncooperative, officers secured a search warrant and an Extreme Risk Protection Order to search Filan’s residence, which resulted in the recovery of a loaded, operable assault rifle with a 25-round magazine holding 24 rounds. Sentencing is scheduled for January 15, 2026 in Broome County Court, Filan will be sentenced to 6 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of Post Release Supervision.
State tax receipts totaled $59.9 billion through September, the middle of State Fiscal Year, $702.2 million higher than financial plan estimates from the Division of Budget, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The FBI arrested 59 year old Peter Bardunias of Clifton Park, for attempting to entice a minor to engage in prohibited sexual activity. The complaint alleges that over the past 2 weeks, Bardunias, who is a Senior Vice President with the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, sent messages to an individual he believed to be a 15 year-old girl during which he discussed violent and sadistic sexual activity, however the individual was an undercover law enforcement official. Bardunias traveled to meet the would-be minor and was taken into custody. A federal search warrant executed at Bardunias’ residence found sex toys, restraints and a knife, he was ordered held in by a Federal Court judge Tuesday pending a detention hearing set for this Friday.

The complaint alleges that over the past 2 weeks, Bardunias, who is a Senior Vice President with the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, sent messages to an individual he believed to be a 15 year-old girl during which he discussed violent and sadistic sexual activity, however the individual was an undercover law enforcement official. Bardunias traveled to meet the would-be minor and was taken into custody. A federal search warrant executed at Bardunias’ residence found sex toys, restraints and a knife, he was ordered held in by a Federal Court judge Tuesday pending a detention hearing set for this Friday.
24 year old Deanna Eignor of Hobart pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Criminal Possession of a Firearm, back on January 12th, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Buena Vista in Delhi for a suspicious person & drug complaint involving 2 vehicles. Eignor was observed getting out of a vehicle with a backpack that contained a firearm. Co-defendant Kenneth Dillmann, previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3½ to 7 years in state prison, Eignor is expected to be sentenced to 1 year in jail for this conviction at a later date.
The Unadilla Fire Department was alerted to a possible structure fire in the town of Unadilla on State Route 7 near the State Police Barracks, around 12:00 AM earlier today, Unadilla Firefighters were able to make an aggressive push into the residence and contain the fire to the room of origin. Crews were back and in service by 4:45am, Unadilla was assisted by Sidney Fire Department & EMS, and the Wells Bridge, Franklin, Otego & Sidney Center Fire Departments.

25 year old Jacob Brown of Binghamton, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, in exchange for a sentence of 8 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision. On March 26th, Officers conducted a traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal, During the course of the stop and subsequent investigation with assistance from K9 Coco, officers discovered a quarter pound of methamphetamine concealed beneath a child’s car seat, 3 children were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Brown admitted to possessing the methamphetamine with intent to sell, officers also seized $1,242 from suspected drug sales, Sentencing is scheduled for January 15th in Broome County Court.

The 2025 New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, will be held today at 11:00 AM to honor 126 firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty. The Memorial was dedicated and unveiled in 1999, there will be 2,818 names on the wall after the ceremony.
On August 19th, Delaware County Deputies were dispatched to a 2-car accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Middletown, Deputies concluded that 1 of the drivers, 58 year old Jane Rudy of Pine Hill was intoxicated, at the completion of the toxicology results, Deputies arrested Rudy for DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of more than .18%, Failure to Keep Right, among other charges, Rudy was released on appearance tickets for Town of Middletown Court.

Archer was indicted by a Grand Jury on 12 counts related to sexual abuse against 3 victims were less than 13 years old between 2013 and 2019 in the Village of Sidney, Archer will be sentenced to 13.5 years in state prison and 30 years of post-release supervision, he will be required to register as a sex offender after prison & he is prohibited from contacting his victims.

Wilcox was in possession of obscene sexual material of a child, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Wilcox on 1 count of Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, he was released on an appearance ticket and directed to return to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

Norwich Police arrested 27 year old Caleb Alexander of Columbus Ohio for Criminal Impersonation following an investigation into an adult who was using foul language and disrespecting staff at the Norwich YMCA. Alexander was using a number of incorrect identifications, detectives learned that Alexander later went to Norwich High School, where he allegedly used a false name, date of birth, and address in an attempt to enroll and gain access to the school. Detectives located Alexander a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. Alexander was wanted on a parole/probation warrant from Ohio for robbery and impersonating a police officer. Ohio authorities have confirmed that they intend to extradite Alexander to face those charges. Norwich Police stated that no children were harmed, and the suspect never made it beyond the high school office. Alexander is currently being held pending an extradition hearing in Chenango County Court.

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital has been awarded a $20 million grant through the State Department of Health. The Hospital recently announced plans to build a 4-story addition & the grant will support that expansion. The new building will house primary medical care services, specialty services, physical, occupational & speech therapy and a laboratory, The Medical Neighborhood Project is expected to begin shortly, with the anticipated completion by the end of 2027.
The Deposit and Hancock Central School Districts Boards of Education have voted to move forward with a merger feasibility study, to see if it would be advantageous to combine the 2 districts. The New York State Education Department will provide up to $100,000 to help pay for the study, which will Review district enrollment, staffing, facilities, finances, and programs, weigh the possible benefits and challenges of merging and Gather input from people from both districts. Public Meeting #1 for the Otsego Lake Watershed Protection Plan will be held Today, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. at Glimmerglass State Park in the Lakeview Pavilion, at County Road 31, Cooperstown. The public meeting will provide an overview of the planning process and the desired outcome of the Watershed Protection Plan. A community survey will be launched during the public meeting and will be available for at least one month to gather additional input from the community. The Department of State provided funding to develop a Plan that identifies water quality threats and recommends local actions to safeguard the resource. Water quality in Otsego Lake is changing because of climate change, invasive species, and harmful inputs to the lake, the plan will identify causes of the degrading water quality and define specific actions to protect the lake and watershed.

The Norwich Police Department arrested 21 year old Kaylub Rifanburg of Norwich for Criminal Possession of a weapon, & possession of burglar tools following a traffic stop Monday. Police discovered a loaded 9mm handgun during the traffic stop on South Broad Street, on Monday afternoon in the City of Norwich. Norwich Police Department received a complaint about an erratic driver, the vehicle in question was located, police found the handgun with a 15 round magazine seated in the pistol. Rifanburg was arraigned and was released on his own recognizance, & he will appear in court at a later date.

Jeremiah Raub was found guilty by a Broome County Jury today for 1 count of 2nd-degree murder and 2 counts of 1st-degree arson, in connection with a 2011 Binghamton fire that killed 17 year old Jeffrey Aissa. 6 people escaped the blaze, Aissa died inside the house. The 1st trial for Raub ended when the jury could not reach a verdict, he will be sentenced at a later date in Broome County Court.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti rallied in support of the family of Brennan Loveless, the 13-year-old boy hit by a vehicle on January 1, 2023, while riding his bike on State Route 7 near his home in Sanitaria Springs. 37 year old Bradley Law of Harpursville, fled the scene and staged a fake accident with a deer the following day in an effort to cover up the damage to the truck. Law was initially charged with criminally negligent homicide, but agreed to plead guilty to criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, for which he was slated to receive 2 concurrent sentences of 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison. Law faced other unrelated charges, & was sentenced to 2 consecutive sentences, a total of 2 and 2/3 years to 8 years. The Loveless’ family was recently notified that Law is scheduled to be interviewed by the Parole Board soon, today Sheriff Akshar & DA Battisti urged residents to contact the State Parole Board and recommend a denial of parole for Law, online at doccs.ny.gov, the DIN number is 23B5664

43 year old Thomas Mould of Stamford, appeared in Delaware County Court and was sentenced for Criminal Sexual Act, to 4 years in state prison and 8 years of post-release supervision. On June 23, 2024, State Police were dispatched for a domestic dispute in Stamford, in regard to Mould’s alleged molestation of a child under the age of 17. Mould was found at his place of employment and arrested, he gave a statement to police admitting that he did touch the victim and he knew that the victim was under the age of 17.
The State Department of Health is monitoring an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease, with reported cases in New York City & into the Hudson Valley. 35 cases were reported in the lower Hudson Valley, there were 83 confirmed cases in New York City with 21 hospitalizations & 3 deaths reported. The disease is a type of pneumonia caused by bacteria that grow in warm water.

Officers learned that a juvenile was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk, attempted to cross the Sherman Ave intersection using the crosswalk. A vehicle on West Main Street made a turn onto Sherman Avenue at the same time the juvenile was crossing, the vehicle struck the juvenile and did not stop, traveling west on Sherman Ave and possibly turned right on Union Street. The Juvenile was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center where they were treated for their injuries and released. Sidney Police are asking the public's help in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in this incident, which is described as a white mid-sized sedan. Anyone in the area of the incident with security cameras is asked to check for possible video of the incident or suspect vehicle, Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Sidney Police Department at 607 561-2301.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Jason Fowlston of Sherburne for Overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, after a report that he physically abused a dog in his home. A brief investigation uncovered evidence that Fowlston repeatedly kicked the dog, he was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded Saturday to a report of a burglary on Boswell Hill Road in the Town of Union. The homeowner spotted 2 individuals with flashlights inside his house with his home security camera system and called 911. Deputies, with State Police, located the 2 suspects, they fled into a wooded area, but were apprehended. Arrested were 43 year old Matthew Ortloff of Chenango Forks, & 45 year old Jeremiah Johnson of Endicott. The pair were charged with Burglary, Conspiracy, Possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief, along with seve4ral other related charges, they were arraigned and remain in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Waddell will be sentenced to 6 1/2 years in State Prison, followed by 4 years of post-release supervision.

A new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli examined healthcare professional shortages in 16 rural counties and found alarming shortfalls in primary care, pediatric, and obstetrician and OBGYN doctors, plus dentists and mental health practitioners, with several counties having none of those specialized Doctors at all. The rural counties examined included Chenango and Delaware Counties, on average, the counties have 4 primary care physicians per 10,000 people, which is less than half the state & US averages and falls below established guidelines. The Counties have 0.5 pediatricians for every 10,000 people, less than one-fifth of the state ratio. The reports states that Tele-medicine & Mobile clinics could be deployed on a regular schedule to help under-served rural communities, also expanding School-based health centers are another option to expand healthcare access to rural New York.

During the annual Colorscape Chenango festival on September 7th, the Chenango County Historical Society will again host a series of tours featuring historically significant community spaces. The “Historic Architecture in the Chenango County Seat” walking tour, will be led by architectural historian Bryan McCracken, Beginning at 12:30 pm., in front of the Chenango County Courthouse in Norwich. The “Local Treasures Revealed” building tour, will begin at 2:00 PM, led by Will MacGuire, in the Live Event NY Showroom at 1 South Broad Street in Norwich. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Brook Romano of the town of Maryland for Burglary, Resisting arrested & Petty Larceny, following an investigation into a residential burglary. Romano was located at her residence, she resisted arrest while being taken into custody, she was processed and was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Amber Weil of Delhi & 28 year old Brandin Vantassel of Delhi, after Deputies on patrol in Delhi Tuesday observed a vehicle being operated by a female, who had a suspended New York State driver's license A traffic stop was conducted and a quantity of Methamphetamine and prescription pills were located within the vehicle. Weil was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Surrender a Revoked or Suspended Driver’s License, & Unlicensed Operator, plus 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Vantassel was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both were released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi court at a later date.

Former Broome County Family Court Judge Richard Miller was ordered to pay 200 thousand dollars to his former secretary for sexual harassment. A Federal Court Jury awarded the damages to Rachel Gallagher, who had claimed that Miller created a hostile work environment, which included tricking them into seeing nude photos and crude descriptions of sexual acts and the repeated demands that Gallagher perform sexual acts with him. The suit also claimed that Miller would threaten the plaintiffs with physical harm or death if they betrayed him. Miller was removed from the bench in 2020.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a bomb threat Tuesday at about 1:00 PM that was made to Community Bank on State Highway 23 in the Town of Norwich. The building which included Community Bank, a Mirabito Gas Station, and Dunkin Donuts were quickly evacuated. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded and secured the scene, a State Police Explosives Detection Canine conducted a thorough search of the entire premises and did not locate any signs of any explosive devices, it was determined that there was no threat to the public and the businesses were back open at approximately 4:00 pm. The investigation to who made the threat is still ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced over $20 million in awards for the Green Innovation Grant Program and the Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grants. A Wastewater Infrastructure Engineering Planning Grant Award includes the City of Oneonta, where they will receive $100,000 to investigate sources of inflow and infiltration in the City’s sanitary sewer system to protect water quality in the Susquehanna River.
52 year-old Terrell Heyward was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison today in Broome County Court. On January 11th, Heyward shot 54 year-old Sarah Hauer in the back of the head at the Woodburn Court apartment building on Exchange Street. The District Attorney's Office contended that Heyward was frustrated that his girlfriend, who was a friend of Hauer’s, wouldn’t see him. When Hauer told Heyward that his girlfriend was unavailable, he shot Hauer and fled these, leaving her to die.
State Police are warning the public after recently receiving an increasing number of complaints from victims of computer and phone scams, including a victim that reported to Investigators in Sidney that they got a pop-up alert on their computer, it appeared to be from Apple, with a phone number to dial for help. When the victim called it, the scammer told the victim that their account was linked to child pornography, that the victim’s identity was compromised and that their personal information was on the dark web, the victim was told to call another number which was allegedly from the U.S Department of Treasury, the scammers sent a “courier” to the victim’s house to pick up payment to allegedly fix the problem. Police remind people to Never share personal information with someone that you don't know.

Haidar was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, plus multiple counts of 1st degree & 3rd degree Rape, 1st & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act, Assault, Stalking, Labor Trafficking, unlawful inprisonment, Strangulation, Criminal possession of a weapon & Overdriving, torturing, failure to provide proper sustenance for animals. Investigators were contacted by victims who reported sustaining severe abuse for several years while living with Haidar, where they were forced to live at the residence and submit to extreme abuse which often resulted in serious physical injury. Haidar was taken in to custody without incident, a search warrant was executed & evidence was seized. The Susquehanna SPCA removed numerous animals. Haidar was processed and was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. 35 year old Natasha Reed of Hamden was indicted on 2 counts by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Reed allegedly possessed over 500 milligrams of cocaine, on November 26, 2024, Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found Reed to have a suspended license, officers seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a complaint regarding 2 vehicles driving recklessly, they located both vehicles and conducted traffic stops. Deputies determined that following a verbal dispute that had occurred, both parties then operated their vehicles in a reckless manner through the Village of Walton, onto State Highway 10 toward Delhi. Deputies arrested 19 year old Hazzie Halstead of Walton for Reckless Driving, Moving from Lane Unsafely and Speeding, plus a number of other lesser charges, 18 year old Aron Garcia-Northrup of Walton was charged with Reckless Driving & Moving from Lane Unsafely, both will appear at the Village of Walton and Town of Hamden Courts at a later date to answer the charges.

Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force conducted 2 search warrants in Binghamton, investigators found a loaded handgun, plus fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, $301 from drug proceeds, and items used for packaging and weighing narcotics. Police arrested Michael McCary of Binghamton, Rashee Shuler from Binghamton, Elizabeth Reid of Hallstead, Pennsylvania, Amanda Goodwin from Castle Creek, Arijana Makic of Johnson City, Christopher Johnson of Binghamton & George Smith of Manhattan, all face court action shortly.

State Police responded to a head-on crash Friday afternoon at about 4:20 PM on State Highway 28 in Delhi. 71-year-old Roger Hadley of Andes was operating a pick-up truck, he crossed over the double yellow line into on-coming traffic, he struck an SUV head-on & was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV, State Trooper Anna Aulino, was off duty and traveling home in her personal vehicle after completing her shift, she sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, Her injuries appear to be non-life threatening, Trooper Aulino graduated from the State Police Academy in 2023 and is assigned to Troop C. The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to conduct a full reconstruction of the crash, The Office of the Attorney General is also investigating the crash.

State Police arrested 35 year old David Keener of Whitney Point, for 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Troopers accused Keener of using a victim's business account at a local hardware store and making several unauthorized purchases, totaling more than $5800. Keener was located by Troopers on July 10 and arrested, he was processed & turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.
Chenango Memorial Hospital announced that area students will have an opportunity to explore careers in healthcare through their “Career Days camp”, The program is a two-day, hands-on career exploration program for students entering grades 8 through 12. This year’s Career Days camp will take place Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15. The program is free of charge, but space is limited. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Joseph Amaro of Cooperstown & 43 Year Old Cricket Miller of Oxford, for charges related to a recent vehicle pursuit following an attempted traffic stop in Norwich. Amaro drove erratically, and Miller threw items at a patrol vehicle, causing several thousand dollars’ worth of damage. The pursuit ended in Ilion in Herkimer County, after Amaro’s vehicle struck a uniformed member of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, causing injuries. Amaro was charged with Obstruction, Conspiracy, Resisting Arrest, 2nd degree Assault Criminal Mischief, Unlawful Fleeing & Reckless Endangerment, as well as 74 Vehicle and Traffic Law citations, Miller was charged with Conspiracy, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, Obstruction & Resisting Arrest, plus 8 citations for violating Vehicle & Traffic laws. Both were arraigned & remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will increase patrols to crack down on reckless and impaired driving ahead of and during the July 4th holiday weekend. Law enforcement officers from across the state will conduct sobriety checkpoints and target dangerous and aggressive driving during what is considered the busiest travel weekend of the summer. The campaign began on Monday, and will run through Sunday, July 6.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies will increase patrols to crack down on reckless and impaired driving ahead of and during the July 4th holiday weekend. Law enforcement officers from across the state will conduct sobriety checkpoints and target dangerous and aggressive driving during what is considered the busiest travel weekend of the summer. The campaign began on Monday, and will run through Sunday, July 6.
Nicholas Vitale pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Oneida County Court, to attempted offering a false instrument for filing, Vitale acknowledged submitting a false form, in an attempt to stop any investigation by State Police, State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and the Attorney General's Office, into the death of Messiah Nantwi at the Midstate Correctional Facility in March. Vitale was also sentenced on Tuesday to a $750 fine, $200 State surcharge and $50 DNA fee. He also had to agree to resign from his job.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that starting this fall through SUNY and CUNY Reconnect, New York State will cover tuition, fees, books and supplies for community college students ages 25-55 pursuing select associate degrees in high-demand occupations, such as Advanced manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Technology, Nursing and health fields, Green and renewable energy and education.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office has responded to the scene of a car crashing into a tree in the Village of Milford at about 1:00 PM today on State Route 28. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office, Otsego County EMS and the Milford Fire Department were currently at the scene, initial reports suggest that the car left the roadway and struck a tree. Traffic may be delayed in that area for clean up & accident reconstruction work.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in locating 39 year old Stephanie White, who is wanted on a probation violation. The Afton Central School District closed at 11:30 this morning & all after school activities are canceled. The water in Afton was discolored or dirty, the Village of Afton Public Works Department told WCDO News that there was no water main break, but road crews using jack hammers adversely affected the quality of the water earlier today, it should clear up and there is NO order to boil water in effect.

37 year old Daniel Klenchik pleaded guilty to Tampering with a Witness in Broome County Court, he made a threatening video phone call to intimidate a victim involved in his pending criminal case, while he was incarcerated at the Broome County Jail, Klenchik will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in New York State Prison on July 18.

The Otsego County Board of Representatives today passed "Oscar's Law" which would create a county animal abuse registry. Those who are convicted of animal abuse laws will be required to be on the registry, it would also restrict animal ownership for those convicted, it is named after a dog that died a day after being rescued in Milford last September.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53 year old Tanya Nelson of Afton following an investigation into a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Unadilla. Nelson was found to have struck another motor vehicle while at the Speedway on State Highway 8, she was found be intoxicated by alcohol and arrested, for DWI, Operating a vehicle with a BAC of .08 or highers and following too closely, she was processed and released with & was ordered to appear in court at a later date.

33 year old Dorian Raysor of Binghamton was sentenced to 11 ½ years in prison to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Tampering with Physical Evidence. The sentence is the result of an investigation conducted by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, when their officers observed Raysor adjusting an object in the front of his waistband, Raysor fled, During the pursuit, he discarded a .45 handgun and a holster.

Troopers learned of the case in March when it was determined that 2 dogs were not being cared for properly in Plymouth, they observed 1 dog on the premises that was deceased and decomposing, a 2nd dog was tied up on a chain with a collar and appeared uncared for and malnourished with no immediate access to food or water. Burkholder was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail with no bail. Burkholder is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group performed a routine traffic stop Sunday in Binghamton. 58 year old Dana Baker of Rochester, was non-compliant and attempted to flee. After a brief struggle, Baker was taken into custody. During the investigation, multiple plastic bags were found on Baker containing cocaine, he was charged with Criminal Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, obstruction of Governmental Administration & Resisting Arrest, Baker was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors announced today that the next board meeting, scheduled for May 14th at 1:00 PM at the Cook County Office Building, has been canceled.

Chenango Sheriff Office arrested 47 year old Andrew Harris of Plymouth for Obstructing Fire Fighting Operations, Reckless Endangerment of Property, Unlawful Imprisonment. Harris was arrested after deputies determined he would not let fire department personnel extinguish a house fire in the Town of Plymouth. Harris was found standing in his driveway in close proximity to a fully involved house fire, he aggressive yelled at emergency personnel and failed to obey lawful orders, Deputies also determined that Harris committed crimes the night before against his girlfriend during a domestic incident, he was arraigned & released on his own recognizance.

Chenango Sheriff office arrested 38 year old Nicholas Partis of Cortland for Grand Larceny, after a complaint was filed by a local business. Deputies were dispatched to a local business, they obtained a license plate number and vehicle description. While deputies were reviewing camera footage, the Village of Oxford Police Department located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Deputies responded to Oxford and positively identified Partis, he was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket and is due to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
A Citizen Preparedness Training Event will be held today at 6:00 PM in Margaretville at the Town Hall, hosted by Delaware County Public Health, with representatives from the New York National Guard & The State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
