Delhi Firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a fire at 161 Main Street in the village, at a homeless shelter.  4 occupants escaped without injury, the building is a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
More than a dozen Fire Departments responded to a blaze at 116 Franklin Avenue Extension in the Town of Fenton early this morning.  The fire was reported at about 1:40 AM, there are no injuries reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced New York State's success in awarding $900 million in Child Care Stabilization Grants to child care programs statewide. The grants are part of a $2.3 billion package of investments in New York State's child care industry funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act and Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act. The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) awarded funding to nearly 15,000 eligible child care providers over four months, from August through November.  Over 219 Million Dollars will go to the Southern Tier Counties child care programs.

New York Attorney General Letitia James today released the following statement after a jury voted that Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. and its affiliates were liable for the public nuisance charges made by New York state in its opioid trial in State Supreme Court:  A subsequent trial will be held to determine how much Teva and others will be required to pay.   Attorney General James has already negotiated deals with Johnson & Johnson, McKesson, Cardinal Health, and Amerisource Bergen for a global value of approximately $26 billion, the cases against Mallinckrodt and Rochester Drug Cooperative are now moving separately through U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
The Center for Agricultural Development & Entrepreurships Farmer' Survey deadline is tomorrow.  The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and allows farmers to identify their top food system priorities.  The survey represents the 2nd phase of CADE’s data collection process, from 17 focus groups which were conducted between March and October in partnership with Cornell University, SUNY Cobleskill, and other researchers. The City of Oneonta Police Department is investigating a bank robbery at the NBT bank at 1 Wall Street Wednesday at about 11:00 AM.  A single male suspect demanded the teller to hand over an undisclosed amount of money, he  is described a 5’8 to 6’ tall, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants and is about 220-250 pounds with a heavy build.  He was last seen walking in an easterly direction on Wall Street.  The public is encouraged to contact the Oneonta Police Detectives with any additional information at (607) 432-1111.
The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive today at the A.O. Fox Hospital Tri-Town Campus Lab between 1:30 PM and 6:30PM in the Conference Room N-112. Delaware County Public Health reported 117 new COVID cases for Tuesday & Wednesday, with a positivity rate still at 9.5%.  They have 272 active cases, 10 hospitalized & 336 quarantined, there have been 85 deaths from the virus in Delaware County.

Governor Hochul signed into law a bill which allows for New York air ambulances to carry blood products. The measure followed an injury of Travis Flanagan in Greene, who was severely injured & was airlifted from Greene to Syracuse in an air ambulance based in Pennsylvania that carried blood on board; New York was the only state in the nation whose regulations prohibited medical helicopters from carrying blood.  Flanagan appeared at a press conference in Binghamton yesterday with Assembly members Donna Lupardo & Joe Angelino & State Senator Fred Akshar.

The Norwich Police Department arrested 54 year old Steven Manwarren of Norwich for 2nd degree Arson, Reckless Endangerment, & criminal Mischief, following the investigation into a fire at 30 Cortland Street at about 12:10 Tuesday morning. Manwarren is accused of intentionally setting a fire in his apartment, residents in other apartments escpaeescaped without injury, Manwarren was arraigned at Norwich City Court and held without bail pending a felony hearing.
The winner of the Friends of Rogers 2021 Electric Car Raffle is Keith Thode of Grapevine, Texas, who graduated from Sherburne High School in 1989, he won a 2020 Tesla Model 3 and arrived in New York to pick up the car on December 2nd. All proceeds of the Electric Car Raffle, along with Thode's $5,000 donation, benefits Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.
The Bainbridge Coin laundry is donating 100% of their proceeds today to the Delaware Valley Humane Society. This Month, the Humane Society donations are matched as part of the Staffworks Save a Life fundraising campaign, which runs through this Friday, last year the Shelter received $93,000 from that fundraising effort.
Susquehanna SPCA's pop-up thrift shop in the Southside Mall generated $7,359.52 in income, today they presented checks to Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans, Delaware Valley Humane Society, and Heart Of The Catskills Humane Society, for $1,839.88 each.

Almost 211,000 New Yorkers were tested for COVID Monday, with 40,780 testing positive, for a positivity rate of 19.33%. Delaware County is 1 of 6 counties in New York State chosen to receive support from NYSDOH to conduct COVID vaccination clinics. Personnel from NYSDOH and the national guard will support the county operated clinics beginning January 7th. The first location will be held in Sidney at the Sidney Elks Lodge on River St. from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, on Friday January 7th, , 8th, 28th, and 29th. The second in Stamford at the Catskill Veterans Outreach Center, 56 Main St. from 11AM-7PM, on January 14th, 15th & February 4th and 5th. The third location in Hancock at the Hancock Central School Bus Garage, from 11AM-7PM on January 21st, 22nd, February 11th and 12th. Online pre-registration links will be available next week. Chenango County Health Department announced today that they have scheduled a Moderna and Janssen booster clinic on December 30th at the South Plaza Clinic site in Norwich. The Health Department will be offering Pfizer boosters for ages 16 and older starting in January. Assemblyman Joe Angelino is urging aspiring nurses to apply for the Nurses for Our Future Scholarship. The scholarship will pay for the tuition of 1,000 new or current health care workers working toward earning an associate’s or bachelor's degree in nursing at a 2 or 4-year New York state public college or university. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle operated by 59-year old Karen Bright-Ackerman of Kortright, for crossing into the oncoming lane of travel. Deputies determined that Bright-Ackerman's Driver’s License was suspended due to a failure to pay a driver responsibility assessment and her vehicle’s registration was suspended due to an insurance lapse. Bright-Ackerman was charged with Failure to Keep Right, Unlicensed Operator, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration, she was released on traffic tickets and directed to appear at the Kortright Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Demolition is underway in Binghamton, at the Water Street Parking Garage behind the Boscov's department Store downtown. The city is making more free parking spaces available downtown, until the old facility is knocked down & a new one of constructed.
NBT Bank announced that they have donated $12,500 to the Norwich YMCA this year. The donations will go for operating expenses as well as for the Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, The Turkey Trot & various Youth Programs & Summer camp programs.

The American Red Cross & State Police is hosting a blood drive today in Kirkwood in memory of Trooper Christopher Skinner, who lost his life by a hit-and-run driver while conducting a traffic stop on I-81 in Broome County in 2014. Blood Supplies are the lowest they have been during the holiday season, in 10 years, appointments are available at RedCrossBlood.org, downloading the free Blood Donor app or by calling 1-800 RED CROSS. Governor Kathy Hochul plans to get about 3 million testing kits for COVID 19 to school district across the state, by the end of this week. Vaccination rates among school children ages 5 to 11 remain low, the goal of the testing kits program is to keep children attending schools in person, by regular testing for COVID 19 in schools.
Delaware County Public Health reported 93 new COVID cases from Friday to Monday, they have 232 active cases, 6 hospitalized 289 in quarantine and there are 84 deaths since the pandemic began.
The Otsego County Department of Health announced that a state run COVID-19 testing site will open on Wednesday at the American Legion Post at 86 West Main Street in Milford. Governor Kathy Hochul announced $23 million in grants to help improve water quality across New York State while mitigating the effects of climate change. Locally, the Village of Sidney will receive $480,000 to install water meters equipped with advanced meter reading technology, the Village of Walton will get $30,000 to identify sources of inflow and infiltration, evaluate alternatives, and recommend improvements to the wastewater collection system.
Delaware County Department of Emergency Services has received a shipment of disposable masks from the State and starting today, they are being distributed to a variety of locations in the County. The masks can be found in Delhi at the Price Chopper & County Office Buildings, in Walton at the Big M & Delaware County Mental Health Facility, in Deposit at the Big M & DMV office & in Sidney at the Price Chopper, Great American and DMV. The masks will be free to anyone in the community and will be on a first come first serve basis.
New York’s ban on single-use Styrofoam food and beverage containers, as well as ‘packing peanuts,’ takes effect Saturday. The new law allows a civil penalty of up to $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second in the same calendar year, and $1000 for the third and subsequent violations in the same calendar year.

State Police have identified the Trooper who fired his issued firearm Last Wednesday in Unadilla as Trooper Justin Miller, who has been a trooper since 2016. Trooper Miller responded on December 22 to a domestic dispute in Unadilla, he was confronted by Mark Beilby who was armed with a knife inside the home. Beilby did not comply with Trooper Miller’s repeated commands to drop the knife and advanced at the trooper, Trooper Miller discharged his firearm, striking Beilby, and then administered first aid, Beilby was first takn to AO Fox Hospital’s Tri-Town Campus in Sidney & then to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced deceased. The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident.
The State Health Department tested over 650,000 people Friday & Saturday combined, with about 85,000 new positives, for a positivity rate of 14.1%. Patients Hospitalizations were close to 4900, patients in an ICU dropped slightly to 880, the number on ventilators went up by 6 to 501. The State Department of Health announced new guidance allowing healthcare workers and other essential workers who test positive for COVID-19 and are fully vaccinated to return to work sooner than previously allowed, in order to provide healthcare and other essential services. This decision follows new guidance from the CDC, after a surge of the Omicron variant. Workers can return if they have not had a fever for at least 72 hours without fever-reducing medication, have a resolution of symptoms & testing is not required.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Brian Boore of Worcester following a traffic stop in the Town of Worcester. Boore was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance following a traffic stop on Main Street Worcester, Boore was a passenger in the vehicle and was found to be in possession of a small quantity of heroin and methamphetamine, he was an appearance ticket returnable to the Worcester Town Court at a later date.
The Village of Oxford has received $50,000 for tree planting from the DEC, the Village Tree Board will coordinate the planting of 175 street and park trees during the spring and fall of 2022 with guidance from the NYS DEC and a local certified tree expert. The grant was awarded in celebration of Arbor Day as part of a $1.18 million award to communities across the state to inventory, plant, and maintain public trees.

The Sidney Police Department executed an arrest warrant on 37 year old Barry Bradt of Unadilla, following an investigation into a level 3 registered sex offender failing to register his address with the State Sex Offender Registry, as required by law. Bradt is accused of registering with the Sidney Police Department and the state Registry as living at an address in the Village of Sidney, while physically residing at an address in Unadilla. Bradt was charged with Failure to register change of address within 10 days & Offering a false instrument for filing, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5000 bail.
5 Broome County residents have died from COVID-19 within the last 6 days, according to Broome County Executive Jason Garnar on Wednesday. Garnar said that the County has 1,661 active cases, with 96 people hospitalized; the vaccination rate is 62% fully vaccinated, and he also said that Broome County Hospitals are expected to pause elective surgeries shortly.
State Police are recruiting in order to add to their numbers, with the Trooper exam to be administered from January to April of next year. A computer-based exam will be offered at 54 testing centers around the state, more information is available at joinstatepolice.ny.gov.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Arrested 24 year old Jake Vanwagner of Hobart for speeding & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. Vanwagner was stopped by deputies Tuesday night, he is scheduled to appear at the Town of Davenport Court at a later date to answer the charges.

State Police at Sidney were dispatched last night at about 7:00 PM, to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence on Lyons Street in the village of Unadilla. The responding trooper was confronted by 24 year old Mark Beilby, who was armed with a knife inside the home. Beilby did not comply with the trooper’s repeated commands to drop the knife and advanced at the trooper. The trooper discharged his issued firearm, striking Beilby, who was transported to Tri-Town Hospital then transferred to Wilson Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident.
The State Health Department continues to report an increase in COVID cases, with over 28,900 new cases Tuesday out of 271,000 tested, for a positivity rate of 10.66%. patient hospitalization are over 4400, patients in an ICU Bed are over 828 and the number of ventilators is 475, there were 57 deaths in Hospitals & nursing homes Tuesday from the virus.
Delaware County Public Health reported 70 new COVID cases on Tuesday & Wednesday, their positivity rate was at 9.3%. There are 279 active cases, 4 hospitalized and 520 quarantined, and an 83 death from COVID has been confirmed. 54.5% of County residents are fully vaccinated.
The Sidney Town Clerks office will be closed Today at noon and will reopen Monday December 27th. They will also be closed December 30th at noon and will reopen Monday January 3rd.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for November. Locally, Chenango County had 3.4% unemployment, Otsego & Delaware Counties both had 3.5%, the State's unemployment rate dropped 3/10th's to 6.6% in November.
Bassett Healthcare Network announced today that Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown and Cobleskill Regional Hospital have been placed on a state-wide list of facilities that currently have occupancies of 90% or more; A.O. Fox Hospital and Little Falls Hospital remain on that list. Those impacted facilities are also limiting non-essential elective procedures in accordance with an executive order enacted by the New York State Department of Health on December 3rd. Capacities at affected hospitals are being reassessed every 2 weeks. With rising cases of COVID-19 in the region, Bassett Healthcare Network will suspend visitation for the safety of patients and staff in all emergency departments across its network starting Wednesday.
Chenango County Health Department reports the continued increase in the number of COVID 19 cases in the county. The county has 301 active cases with 2/3rds unvaccinated, 523 are quarantined, 13 are hospitalized, all are unvaccinated, and there have been 92 COVID related deaths since the start of the pandemic. Firefighters from Unadilla, Franklin, Wells Bridge, & Otego responded to a fire last night at 10:30 PM, at 43 Watson Street in Unadilla. The House and garage were fully involved, adult and 2 children were being treated for smoke inhalation, the cause of the fire is under investigation. The Unadilla Fire Department has posted a list of items the displaced residents need following the fire, it is posted on the Unadilla Fire Department Facebook page.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that she is making $65 million available to counties across New York State to help with the costs associated with administering vaccines and boosters and enforcing the mask-or-vaccine mandate for indoor public places that went into effect statewide last week. Up to $1 million will be available for most counties, with larger counties eligible to receive up to $2 million.
The State Health Department tested over 258,000, with 23,391 testing positive, for a Positivity rate of 9.04%. Patient Hospitalization are up to 4,020, with 769 in an ICU bed, and Patients on ventilators is up to 451, New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 60 on Sunday.

Assemblyman Joseph Angelino announced $25,000 in funding to the Four County Library System to support libraries within the 122nd Assembly District. The most recent state budget allowed each legislator to submit aid requests on behalf libraries within their districts. The Sidney Memorial Public Library will receive $5,000, to purchase new technology items such as virtual reality headsets and a 3D printer. Other area libraries will receive $1,111 each, including Afton, Bainbridge, Deposit, Franklin, Gilbertsville, New Berlin, the Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, plus Oxford, South New Berlin, Unadilla, & the Ogden Free Library in Walton.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Deposit man on an arrest warrant issued by the Delaware County Family Court, for a violation of the Family Court Act. 47 year-old Patrick Stanton of Deposit was located On December 10th, by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, along with members of the Broome County Sheriff's Office, at a Village of Deposit location. Stanton was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail & is scheduled to appear at the Delaware County Family Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Norwich City Police responded to the report of a gunshot Saturday Night on Broad Street, and discovered an alleged meth lab at 134 South Broad Street and arrested 27 year old Tyler Mills. Mills was charged with resisting arrest, 2nd degree obstruction of governmental administration, and criminal nuisance. A search warrant was executed at Mills residence, & the evidence of a meth lab was collected by officers, the investigation is continuing & more charges are expected.

Governor Hochul announced that over 40 New Vaccine & Booster Pop up sites will be up & running this week around the state. State Police have arrested 46 year old Charles Richter of Bainbridge, who was wanted in connection with an assault during a domestic dispute in Bainbridge. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment, Richter has been charged with Attempted Murder, 1st degree Assault, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Imprisonment.
The State Health Department reported a surge in COVID 19 positive tests Sunday with 22,478 positives out of 267,422 Tests for an 8.41% Positivitiy rate, Patient Hospitalizations were at 3,880, Patients in ICU is up to 761, the number of Patients on ventilators is up to 448. There were 58 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes.
Delaware County Public Health reported 77 new cases of COVID 19 for Thursday & Friday, for an 8.9% positivity rate. There were 289 active cases, 7 hospitalized and 530 quarantined, 54.3% of Delaware County Residents were fully vaccinated.

The State Department of Labor announced today that the number of private sector jobs increased by 24,200, from October to November to over 7.6 Million, the highest numbers since before the pandemic began to affect the state 22 months ago. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 6.9% to 6.6% in November 2021.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an Inmate of the Delaware County Correction Facility, on a warrant issued by the Chenango County Family Court. 42-Year-Old Timothy Byrne had just completed his sentence on unrelated charges, & he was turned over to Chenango County for a violation of the New York State Family Court Act & faces court action shortly.

State Police at Troop C in Sidney announced today that during the month of November, 55 impaired drivers were taken off the roadways of Troop C. State Police & other law enforcement agencies throughout the state will increase patrols targeting impaired driving during the holiday travel season, as the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative begins tomorrow & runs through January 1st, to reduce impaired driving over the holidays.
The State Minimum Wage will increase for some workers on December 31st. Workers in the upstate Counties will be paid a minimum wage rate of $13.20 per hour, up from $12.50 an hour. Earlier this year, the minimum wage for individuals working at fast food establishments anywhere in the Statewas established at $15.00 per hour, there will be no further increase for them on December 31st.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle Sunday for speeding, and made contact with the driver, 62-year-old Edmund McNamara of Norwich. McNamara’s driver’s license was suspended, he was arrested for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator and Speeding, McNamara is scheduled to appear before the Town of Masonville Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Department of Public Works reported today that the Corbett Road Bridge over the East Branch of the Delaware River and the Covered Bridge in Downsville have been re-opened to traffic this afternoon.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $136 Million Dollars in federal funding for 59 airports across New York State. The funding was allocated through the recently enacted Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and can be used for a variety of infrastructure improvements. Locally, the Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta & the Sidney Municipal airport will receive $159,000.

Delaware County Public Health reported 71 new cases of COVID 19 on Tuesday & Wednesday, 9.1% of those tested being positive. There are 296 active cases, 14 hospitalized and 482 quarantined. Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people 18 and older today at 97 Main Street, Delhi. Moderna 1st or 2nd doses will only be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM for walk-ins only, while Moderna boosters will be available from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with pre-registration required at apps2.health.ny.gov. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the award of $216.2 million in enhanced assistance for 88 local governments to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts in every region of the State. This funding, provided through the State's BRIDGE NY initiative, supports projects that reduce the risk of flooding, improve resiliency of structures, facilitate regional economic competitiveness and prioritize projects that benefit environmental justice communities. The Southern Tier region will be funded for 9 bridges & 3 culverts in this latest round of funding.

Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tina Mole announced today that the County will not reallocate resources to enforce the newest New York State mask mandate that took effect on Monday. Mole stated that Delaware County does not have the internal framework to enforce this mandate, but businesses have oversight from other state agencies, such as Agriculture and Markets or other professional licensing boards, which may enforce the Mask newest mandate. County residents are asked to follow the mandate in business following the mandate lease, pleases wear masks in public spaces, get vaccinated and continue to be diligent with social distancing and hand washing practices. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Town of Hamden last Tuesday for an equipment violation. 53 year-old Lisamichelle LaLonde, of Morris, was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended New York driver’s license, due to a previous insurance lapse. LaLonde was later issued traffic tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, Unlicensed Operator, and Insufficient Brake Lamps. LaLonde is scheduled to appear before the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the charges.
As a result of low blood donor turnout in recent months, the Red Cross is heading into the holidays with its lowest blood supply in more than a decade at this time of year. Blood donations are desperately needed now to meet the needs of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. The Otsego County Sheriff's Office stated that they were notified this morning by a local school district regarding the social media threat to unnamed schools, regarding possible gun violence at 12:15, but no specific date or school was named. This incident is currently being investigated by not only the Sheriff’s Office but multiple police agencies within and outside of Otsego County. The threat has been received by students at various schools in the area and statewide, the threat appears to be false. Officers communicated with school officials and were present in the areas of all of the schools this morning. Officers will continue to show a police presence & the investigation is ongoing.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that the statewide Mask Mandate will be re-instituted; masks will be required in all indoor public places. The Governor stated that an exception to the mask rule will be if a business or venue has a vaccine requirement. The State Health Department reported that the COVID positivity rate is back over 5% state wide, Hospitalization are well over 3000, the number in ICU Beds & on ventilators has increased at a lower rate than earlier in the year, due to a high rate of vaccinations.
State Attorney General Letitia James Announced that she is backing out of a run for New York Governor, and will concentrate on re-election to her current position. James was polling at a distant 2nd to current Governor Kathy Hochul among democrats, according to recent Sienna College Polls.
Bainbridge Fire Fighters responded to the report of a garage fire at 46 Pearl Street in the village this morning. Firefighters from Coventry & Afton also responded, early reports suggest that the fire was contained to a garage, which was a total loss, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 41 year old Jeremiah Butler of the town of Maryland, following an investigation into a November 13th motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middlefield. Butler was charged with Felony DWI, operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 of higher, failure to keep right, speed not reasonable & prudent along with other charges, Butler was released on an appearance tickets for Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's department arrested a County inmate Wednesday for assaulting a Corrections Officer and fleeing from custody during a Court appearance in the Town of New Lisbon yesterday afternoon. 27 year old John Clark was charged with Assault on Police Officer, 2nd degree Escape, 3rd degree Assault, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest & Harassment. Otsego County corrections officers were transporting Clark to a regularly scheduled court appearance when he fled from the custody of the corrections officers, a foot pursuit was initiated and a corrections officer attempted to take the defendant back in to custody. During a brief struggle, Clark caused the correction officer to sustain a hand fracture. Clark was returned back to the Otsego County Correctional Facility and will be processed at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment at a later time. The corrections officer was treated at Bassett Hospital and a return to work has not been established.
SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras will resign January 14th following criticism for his actions while serving as a top aide to former Governor Andrew Cuomo. Malatras was accused of sending disturbing text messages and emails regarding Lindsay Boylan, after she publicly accused Cuomo of sexual harassment, those messages were part of the investigation by Attorney General Letitia James into the former Governor's actions.
Oxford Fire Fighters responded this morning to a structure fire at 16 Merchant Street at the corner of Greene Street in the village. The Fire was reported at around 7:30 AM, the building housed several apartments & all occupants were able to escape, some pets were not able to be saved, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Bassett Healthcare Network announced today that in accordance with an executive order enacted by the New York State Department of Health on December 3, 2 of their hospitals; A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta & Little Falls Hospital, have been placed on a state-wide list of facilities that currently have occupancies of 90% or more. These facilities will limit non-essential elective procedures for the next 2 weeks.
The Delaware County Board of Supervisors has decided to name the Delaware County Department of Economic Development as the entity to promote tourism. Previously, tourism programs were run by the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, through a contract with Blue Spark Creative Services of Delhi, Blue Spark is expected to continue its work through the Department of Economic Development.

Over 149,000 were tested for COVID with 8210 positives, for a positivity rate of 5.5%, Patient Hospitalization continue to sharply increase, they are up to 3,401, with 631 Patients in an ICU and 352 on ventilators, there were 52 deaths from COVID in hospitals & Nursing Homes Tuesday.
Delhi Police arrested 28-year-old Andrew Kreger of Delhi for 6 counts of Petty Larceny, 6 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 6 counts of Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument and 3 counts of Forgery, follow a recent investigation. Kreger was arraigned in Delhi Town Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $25,000 secured bond.

Delaware County Public Health reported that they are now up to 78 deaths from the COVID 19 virus pandemic. From Saturday through Monday, the County reported 105 new cases, 411 active cases with 22 hospitalized and 348 quarantined, and their positivity rate was over 15%. 53.7% of Delaware County Residents are vaccinated, 85% of active cases were not vaccinated.
George Wang of Lawrence Kansas was sentenced in Otsego County Court Monday, to go to a state run Psychiatric Center for the treatment of a mental disease. Wang was originally charged with Attempted Murder after the car he was driving veered off of State Route 28 in Hartwick on November 18th of 2020, striking a pedestrian in a parking lot, and then left the scene. Wang pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect recently, he will stay in a facility until he is deemed to be not a danger to himself or the public.
Local Lawmakers gathered in Binghamton yesterday to continue to state their opposition to the controversial Bail Reform laws put into place by Former Governor Cuomo almost 2 years ago. Yesterday, State Senator Akshar introduced legislation to make certain drug crimes bail eligible and allow courts to consider the risk of continued substance abuse when faced with defendants who have addiction issues.
The latest Siena College Poll has Governor Kathy Hochul with a big lead over her Democratic challengers in the 2022 gubernatorial race. Hochul had 36%, followed by Attorney General Letitia James with 18%, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams with 10% and Congressman Tom Suozzi with 6%, tied with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is considering a bid for governor.

2 Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies suffered minor injuries late Saturday night, as they were answering a call in a patrol car when they were hit by another vehicle at East Main Street and North Broad Street in Norwich. 19 year old Seth Wessels was the driver of the pickup truck that struck the Deputies patrol vehicle, he was found to be intoxicated at the time of the accident, he was charged with DWI by Norwich City Police, who responded to the accident. 1 of the deputies returned to work after being treated at Chenango Memorial Hospital, the other suffered a wrist injury & is expected to miss some time. the investigation is opngoing, Wessels will appear in Norwich City court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that members of the Sheriff’s Office recently completed a fundraiser in participation of “No-Shave November” and awarded donations to 2 local Delaware County agencies. Delaware County Public Health continues to see an increase in COVID test positivity rates. Testing on Thursday & Friday showed a rate of 16.67%, with 103 new cases, 23 hospitalized, 340 active cases and 403 quarantined. 53.4% of Delaware County Residents are fully vaccinated.
The Attorney General's Office has determined the police actions in the fatal shooting of an Oneonta man in April were justified to prevent the death of a child. Tyler Green was fatally shot during a confrontation with Oneonta police on April 6th, after Green made violent threats against his partner, who was visiting his house with their nearly-2-year-old child. Oneonta Police officers saw Green pull a knife and threatened to kill her, he cut his partner’s leg and swung the knife at 1 of the officers & grabbed his son by the leg & swung the knife at the child, when Sergeant Ralph Pajerski, fired 2 shots striking Green in the back. Green was transported to Fox Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame later this year. The Inductees are Player Manager Gil Hodges, Pitcher Jim Kaat, outfielders Minnie Miñoso & Tony Oliva, & Negro League players Bud Fowler and Buck O'Neil to Cooperstown. Hodges, Kaat, Miñoso and Oliva were elected by the Golden Days Era Committee, which considered a 10-person ballot comprised of candidates whose primary contribution to the game came from 1950-69. Fowler and O’Neil were elected by the Early Baseball Era Committee, which considered a 10-person ballot of candidates whose primary contribution the game came prior to 1950.

State Police are reminding motorists to obey the states "Move Over Law" after a state trooper on duty in his patrol car in Westchester County, had a truck crashed into his vehicle early Tuesday morning. Trooper Carlos Desilva was monitoring traffic from inside his troop car on the shoulder of I-87 when he was struck by a truck that drifted off the roadway and slammed into Desilva's marked cruiser. State Police said the vehicle sustained heavy damage, Trooper Desilva was taken to an area hospital & was treated & released.
Delaware County Public Health continues to report a surge in COVID 19 cases, with 111 new positive cases reported on Tuesday & Wednesday. The County has 290 Active cases, 18 are now hospitalized and 290 are quarantined, only 53.4% of County Residents are fully vaccinated.
On Wednesday November 24th, 2021, the Town of Walton Court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of 41 year old Robert Smith of Walton, for failing to appear at court on a prior charge of criminal possession of stolen property. Delaware County Sheriff’ Deputies located Smith Tuesday in the Town of Walton, and arrested him on the bench warrant. Smith was arraigned at the Town of Walton Court and was released again in his own recognizance.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle traveling on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton, with one headlight out recently, the driver was identified as 22-year old Trevor Merwin of Walton, whose driver’s license was suspended for a previous failure to answer a summons. Merwin was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating with Driver’s View Obstructed, and Operating with Inadequate Headlamps; he was released on tickets and is scheduled to appear at the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Former Broome District Attorney Steve Cornwell's case will be handled by a special prosecutor, instead of by current DA Michael Korchak. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded on November 16th, to a two car accident on County Highway 11 in the Town of Davenport. Deputies determined that one of the drivers, 29-year-old Eli Stapleton was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Stapleton was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and is scheduled to appear at the Davenport Town Court at a later date.

Attorney General Letitia James today released her annual "Pennies for Charity: Fundraising by Professional Fundraisers" report, which found that charities that retained professional fundraisers received about two-thirds of every dollar donated in 2020, earning more than $380 million. After analyzing 718 campaigns conducted by professional fundraisers in 2020, the report concludes that charities earned 73% of donations from those campaigns, a small increase from the previous year and in line with the last 4 years' results.

The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for October, the State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 7.1% in September to 6.9% in October 2021. The Windsor Central School District will hold a special vote on two propositions today; the 1st is a $27.5-million-dollar Capital Improvement Project with 85% state aid & capital reserves covering the costs. The 2nd proposition is for the purchase of three 66-passenger buses at a cost not to exceed $390,000 dollars, the new buses would replace old busses with high mileage, and State aid would cover 90% of the cost with the rest coming from the district's annual budget. Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 41-year-old Robert Smith of Walton and charged him with one count each of Criminal Mischief and Petit Larceny. Smith is accused of unlawfully removing the catalytic converter from a vehicle without owner’s consent which resulted in damage to the vehicle. Smith was released on an appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Bloomberg News reported that the company listed the size of the offering as $100 million, 5 years ago; Chobani gave 2,000 employees shares that would amount to 10% of the company’s future value in the event of a Public Offering.
New York Farm Bureau's 2021 Market Basket Survey shows the price of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner saw a modest uptick from last year's meal. The average total price, which includes a 16-pound turkey and other common items found on a holiday dinner table, is $52.59, a 1.7% increase over last year. Turkey prices are about $1.46 per pound in New York State, which is about five cents per pound over last year's average price there were small price increases for whipped cream, Pumpkin Pie Mix, fresh cranberries, and a veggie tray, the biggest decrease is for sweet potatoes. The Farm Bureau reported that the higher costs do not trickle down to the farmer, who receives only about 8 cents of each dollar consumers spend on food at the store.

Sidney Police Department conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation today that resulted in the arrest of 2 people. Sidney Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle due to its rear license plate lamp not working, the driver, 23 year old Colin Stanton of Sidney was charged with Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, the passenger 36 year old Tina Bremner of Plymouth was charged with 2 counts of Criminal possession of a controlled substance, both were released on appearance tickets for Village of Sidney Court at a later date.

State Police responded to a fully engulfed structure fire on County Road 34A in the town of Cherry Valley Tuesday, with 1 person inside a travel trailer. Sharon Springs, Cherry Valley and Middlefield Fire Departments were on the scene attempting to put out the flames. 58 year old Ellen Cantrell was located deceased inside. At this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Jury selection began in Broome County Court yesterday in the trial of 44-year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit, who has been charged with 1st degree attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a firearm and several other charges, for allegedly shooting Trooper Ryan Thorp on June 23rd. State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home on Sunrise Terrace in Deposit when shots rang out and Trooper Thorp was wounded in the arm, Trooper Thorp is still recovering from his injuries.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle operated by 32- year-old Jesse McHargue of Middleburgh, last Thursday for inadequate tail lamps. Deputies learned that McHargue’s driver’s license was revoked due failing to answer a previous summons out of the Town of Middleburgh. McHargue was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Tail Lamps, he was released and was directed to appear at Hamden Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 21 new COVID 19 cases Wednesday, the county remains at a High level of community transmission. The CDC & Otsego County Department of Health recommend everyone, even those who are fully vaccinated, to continue to wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission, to maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others. Otsego County reports a Vaccination Rate of 56.1% of total population fully vaccinated.

Beginning today and extending well into December, the Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting a pop-up thrift shop in the Southside Mall. For a split of the proceeds, the Delaware Valley Humane Society, Heart of the Catskills Humane Society, and Super Heroes in Ripped Jeans will assist the SQSPCA in recruiting volunteers to cash out customers and mind the store. The State Police, the State DOT and the Thruway Authority announced that State Police and local law enforcement agencies issued a record number of tickets during 2021’s Operation Hardhat, which is a joint initiative to crack down on work zone violations and highlight the importance of safe driving when encountering construction, maintenance and emergency operations along state highways. A total of 2,336 tickets were issued during Operation Hardhat details this year, breaking the previous record of 2,018 tickets set during 2020. The region with the highest number of Tickets was the Southern Tier, with 490.
State Senator Peter Oberacker announced that Construction Mechanic First Class Richard Scheiner or Worcester is the first veteran from his district to be inducted into the State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. Scheiner served as a member of the Naval Seabees from 1979 to 1994, receiving numerous awards during his service time. The induction ceremony was held virtually earlier today.

Delaware County Public Health reported 2 more COVID deaths for the period of Tuesday & Wednesday, with 60 new positive cases and a positivity rate up to 8.5%. Delaware County reports 212 active cases, 11 are hospitalized and 298 are quarantined, the total number of deaths is now 67. 52.7% of County residents are fully vaccinated.

Delaware County Public Health reported 39 new COVID cases on Thursday & Friday, with a positivity rate at 5.38%, about twice the state average. Delaware County has 152 active cases, 10 are hospitalized and 202 are quarantined, only 52.4% of Delaware County Residents are fully vaccinated, 15% of the cases are among students & school district staff.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Investigators arrested 58-year-old Raymond Albertina of Walton, on 1 count each of 2nd & 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Albertina was accused of stealing property from business associates, on two separate occasions, in the Town of Walton and the Town of Franklin respectively. The total value of the stolen property was determined to be over $53,000.00. Albertina was arraigned in the Town of Walton Court on both charges and released to reappear at a later date.

Former Assembly Republican Minority Leader Brian Kolb pleaded guilty Monday to driving while ability impaired, relating to an incident on New Year's Eve 2019 in Ontario County. Police reported that Kolb was behind the wheel when he crashed his state-issued vehicle went into a ditch, he blamed the crash on his wife. Kolb stepped down from the position of Assembly Minority Leader days later, he did not seek re-election to the Assembly in November 2020.
On Wednesday, October 27th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a male subject acting irrational and driving at an extremely high rate of speed on State Highway 30 in the Middletown/Andes area. Responding Deputies located 29-year old James Lor of Margaretville, who is accused of operating the vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. Lor’s Driver’s license was revoked due to numerous previous DWI related suspensions. Lor was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of Cocaine. Lor was charged with Felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, along with several other charges, Lor was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was released on his own recognizance, pending court action at the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

State Police, the Delhi Police Department, and the State University Police at Delhi responded to a fight Sunday at a large college party off campus on Scotch Mountain Road in Delhi. One person sustained stab wounds and was ultimately transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. 3 others were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation but appears to be an isolated incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the altercation is asked to call New York State Police at (607)432-3934.
Delaware County Public Health reported 1 more COVID 19 death in their report covering last Thursday & Friday, bringing their total to 64. The County had a positivity rate of 4.86%, more than twice the state average, they had 39 new cases, 108 active cases & 6 hospitalized and 125 quarantined. 52.1% of eligible Delaware County Residents were vaccinated against COVID 19.

On October 28, 2021, Troopers monitored traffic in the active work zone on State Route 17 east to Interstate 81 north in the city of Binghamton. Road crews were replacing concrete pavement. During the detail, a trooper blends in with the workers and watches for risky and unsafe behavior. 5 Tickets were issued for speeding, 4 for cellphone use while driving, 2 for violating seat belt laws & 5 for other assorted violations.
Local sales tax collections totaled $5.2 billion in the third quarter (July-September of 2021), up $861 million (20%) from the same period last year and continuing the trend of exceeding pre-pandemic levels, according to a report released today from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Statewide, every region saw solid growth in sales tax collections during the third quarter compared to the same period last year. Outside of New York City, the July-September period marked the fifth consecutive quarter that county and city sales tax receipts met or exceeded pre-pandemic levels. Statewide local sales tax collections in the third quarter of 2021 grew 8.6% ($409 million) over the pre-pandemic third quarter of 2019.

Federal prosecutors in Broome County Have charged Connor Spells of Sacketts Harbor following an undercover investigation regarding child pornography and an attempt to meet an underage female for inappropriate sexual behavior. Spells is accused of driving to Broome County to meet with a 10- year-old girl, he was met by officers and was charged with attempted enticement of a minor and distribution of child pornography Spells is being held pending future court action.
Area Emergency Services Departments are keeping an eye on potential flooding issues, after several inches of rain fell yesterday. Minor Flooding was reported in Margaretville, while Delaware County officials anticipated possible mild flooding in Hancock. Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic tomorrow at 97 Main Street, Delhi from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The vaccination clinic is open to people over the age of 18. Payment has been requested by means of untraceable services such as gift cards, and money transfer apps, including PayPal and consumer complaints can be filed at dos.ny.gov/consumer protection.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the State DOT & Emergency crews are gearing up to respond to any issues that pop up due to the nor'easter spinning across the state today & into tonight. Governor Hochul declared a State Disaster Emergency for several counties, including Broome, Chenango, Delaware, & Otsego Counties, locally; The National Weather service has Flood Watch's & Flood Warnings in effect throughout the state.
State Police reported that no one was injured in a prolonged dangerous issue early Monday Morning. Delaware County 911 received about 30 calls regarding a wrong-way driver on State Route 17 in Hancock travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Troopers responded, coordinated a road closure of State route 17 East of Exit 94 and were able to stop the vehicle. The investigation found that an 86-year-old man from Ithaca had not returned home and had been reported missing by his wife to the Ithaca Police Department, the man was suffering from Dementia, he was transported to an area hospital, and there were no reported accidents or injuries from the incident.
Delaware County Public Health reported another COVID 19 death in Monday's report; they now have 63 deaths from the virus. From Saturday through Monday, Delaware County reported 24 new cases, 131 active cases, with 2 hospitalized & 122 quarantined, 51.9$ of Delaware County Residents are vaccinated.
The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for September 2021. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State's area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. To recap last week's statewide press release, New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 7.4% in August to 7.1% in September 2021. Locally, Chenango County had 3.8% unemployment, Delaware County 4% & Otsego County 3.9% in September.

The successful grant applications were approved through a competitive, volunteer panel and board review process, are for a variety of capital projects, operations, economic development, and programming. 24 year old Elijah Burnside of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2nd degree manslaughter in Broome County Court Monday, Burnside admitted to driving at a high rate of speed in Binghamton November 21, 2019, & hitting a vehicle driven by 70 year old Ronald Phetphonsy of Binghamton, resulting in his death. Burnside faces sentencing at a later date.

On Saturday, Sidney Police received a complaint of a robbery in progress at the Mirabito convenience store at 1 West Main Street, by a white female wearing a mask over the lower part of her face and a hooded sweatshirt. The employee handed $1,619 to the suspect who then fled the scene. No firearm or weapon was displayed during the incident. On Sunday, the suspect was taken into custody, 28 year old Alicia McAdams of Sidney was charged with 3rd degree Robbery & 4th degree Grand larceny, McAdams was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, and she was released on her own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Elizabeth Crandall of Meredith after Deputies observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of County Highway 26 and State Highway 10 in Hamden. A check of Crandall’s driver’s license revealed that her driving privileges were suspended for failure to answer a summons out of the Town of Franklin Court. Crandall was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, and Operating a motor Vehicle with an Obstructed View, she was released on and directed to appear at the Hamden Town Court on a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car Motor Vehicle Accident on Prospect Ave in the Village of Walton on October 17th. 31-year-old James Young of Walton was traveling north on Prospect Avenue when his vehicle exited the roadway and impacted a section of guidewire, Young’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and drugs at the time of the collision. Young was charged with Failure Maintain Lane, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Driving while Intoxicated, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and Aggravated Leandra’s Law DWI for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs with a child less than 15 years of age in the vehicle. Young was released with tickets returnable to the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Guilford Sunday night shortly before 8:00 PM. Troopers and multiple EMS and fire personnel responded to the intersection of County Road 35 and State Highway 8, where a Dodge Pickup traveling eastbound on County Road 35 and a Ford Fusion was traveling north on State Highway 8. The Dodge Ram entered the intersection and struck the Ford Fusion then struck a Subaru Forester which was stopped at the intersection on County Road 35. The operator of the Fusion was a 36-year-old female of New Bedford, Massachusetts, & the passenger was a 30-year-old female of Port Leyden, New York, they were taken to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. A 5-year-old female, a 7-year-old female and a 3-year old female all of Port Leyden, were transported to Tri-Town Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The 69 year old man driving the Dodge was evaluated at Tri-Town Hospital and released. His passenger, a 37-year-old male was not injured. The operator & a passenger in the Subaru were taken to Tri-Town Hospital then to Wilson Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
Sidney Police Department received a complaint Friday Morning of a fight in progress in the parking lot of the Smiley's convenience store on West Main Street. The investigation revealed that it was a home invasion at the residence above the convenience store. 2 males entered 17 West Main Street by force, they took a small safe or lock-box, they got into a physical altercation with a resident, a witness called 911 and also give a description of the vehicle & license plate number. State Police assisted & arrested 22 year old Lucas Tanner of Franklin, Friday, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, 2nd degree Robbery, plus Conspiracy & Petty larceny, he was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail. The 2nd suspect is still at large and is expected to be identified & arrested shortly.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his office’s annual report on the Wall Street Securities Industry. Wall Street’s run of prosperity extended into the first half of 2021 with $31 billion in pre-tax earnings, beating 2020’s outsized first half profits of $27.6 billion, even as job losses accelerated in New York City’s securities industry. DiNapoli said that State revenues in the first half exceeded initial projections by $5.2 billion, because of Wall Street and the increased income taxes on wealthy New Yorkers, however, the report shows that despite the profitability, jobs are being relocated elsewhere, New York will have lost about 9,000 securities jobs, bringing the total down to 175,000.

The Village of Sidney Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing on the Local Law #3 tonight at 7:00 PM at the Community Cultural Center at 1 Bridge Street. The State Health Department Test Results Reports the positivity rate continues to trend downward, with 162,737 tested for COVID Saturday, with 2,861 positive tests, which was 1.76% of those tested. Patient Hospitalizations are down to 2,007, Patients in an ICU bed were down to 453, Patients on ventilators was down to 245. New deaths reported by healthcare facilities was 32 on Saturday.

The department reported that the peak month was January of 2021 when 86 people died from the virus. Currently, there are 778 cases of COVID 19 in Broome County, with 73 hospitalized, The deadliest month was January 2021, where the county reports 86 deaths from the disease. Currently, there are 778 active cases of COVID-19 in Broome County. 73 people are hospitalized. More than 24,200 positive cases have been reported since the beginning of the pandemic.
Delaware County District Attorney John Hubbard has announced the start of his campaign for Delaware County Judge in the 2022 election. The position will be on the 2022 ballot following the announcement of retirement by Judge Richard Northrup. Hubbard was elected District Attorney in November 2016 and was re-elected in 2020, he previously served as Chief Assistant District Attorney under Northrup for 10 years, after first joining the office in 2000 as an Assistant D.A.
The Cannabis Control Board today advanced regulations for public comment that will allow for the home cultivation of medical cannabis. The regulations follow the requirements of Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, allowing for up to three mature plants and three immature plants per person and a cap of six mature and six immature plants within any private residence. The US Attorney's office announced that 35 year old Matthew Bormann of Sherburne pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, in federal court this week. Bormann admitted that on March 12th, during a visit at his home from his United States Probation Officer, he possessed at least 3500 images and video files of child pornography on a cellular telephone he was prohibited from possessing under the conditions of his supervised release, following a 2014 federal conviction for possession of child pornography. Bormann will be sentenced for this 2nd conviction & for violating the terms of his probation on March 2nd 2022.
Butterball has issued a recall on more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey products after consumers complained of finding pieces of blue plastic embedded in their raw ground turkey. The items being recalled are the 2.5-pound "farm to family Butterball all-natural Ground Turkey" trays with a sell-by date of October 18th, and the 3-pound "Kroger Ground Turkey" trays with an October 17 sell-by date. The items were produced on September 28, & should be returned to the place of purchase.

The FCC has adopted rules to establish 988 as the new, nationwide, 3-digit phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention and mental health crisis counselors. To ensure that calls to 988 reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, area codes with a "988 Exchange, will need to transition to 10-digit dialing. According to preliminary figures released today by the New York State Department of Labor, the number of private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 14,800, or 0.2%, to 7,524,900 in September 2021. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 7.4% to 7.1% in September 2021.
The Food & Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention are investigating an outbreak of salmonella linked to whole, fresh onions, distributed nationwide by ProSource Produce of Idaho, the contaminated onions were imported from Mexico. ProSource has agreed to recall red, yellow and white onions imported from Mexico with import dates from July 1 to Aug. 27th, The CDC reported there are at least 11 persons infected with Salmonella in New York State.

Delaware County reported 30 new cases, for a 9.28% positivity rate, they have 125 active cases, with 5 hospitalized & 220 quarantined. 51.7% of Delaware County residents are vaccinated.

The New York State Department of State and the Division of Consumer Protection today alerted consumers about real estate and rental scams, in which scammers work to steal prospective tenants’ money when they are looking to rent a home or an apartment. New Yorkers claimed losses of over $1.7 million during the last 3 years from scammers, if a consumer has fallen victim to a rental scam, they are encouraged to file a complaint with the Division of Consumer Protection. Additional consumer resources on rental scams are available on the Department of State website dos.ny.gov.
The Delaware County Substance Use Task Force announces the launch of DELcovery, a multi-platform hub of information for individuals and families interested in recovery from substance use disorders. State Police issued 17,797 tickets and arrested 207 people for impaired driving during the special traffic enforcement detail over Columbus Day weekend. The initiative began on Thursday, October 7th and continued through Tuesday, October 12th. Statewide, law enforcement issued a total of 38,255 tickets, including 828 for impaired driving and 10,593 for speeding.
