50 year old Kevin Harrington of Oneonta was sentenced to serve a 3-year term of federal probation and ordered to pay over $150,000.00 in restitution to his former employer, for his previous guilty plea to 2 counts of mail fraud. Harrington admitted that while he was the executive director at First Community Care of Bassett, he submitted fraudulent expense reports seeking reimbursement for the purchase of CPAP machines that were not purchased. Harrington was ordered to serve six months of home confinement and was fined $5,500.00.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Michael Vogel of Walton on a sealed indictment warrant issued by Delaware County Court after a Grand Jury action. Vogel was charged with 1 count of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, for selling Fentanyl, Vogel was remanded back to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on separate and unrelated charges and is scheduled to re-appear at the Delaware County Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor announced that Private sector jobs in New York State increased over the month by 11,900, to 8,409,100 in November. New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held constant at 4.4% in November, the labor force participation rate held constant at 61.2%.

Delaware County Sheriff Office arrested 23 year old Dakota Mann of Walton for an assault on a Corrections Officer. On Tuesday, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to the Delaware County Jail to assist the Correctional Division regarding the assault, Mann is alleged to have punched a Corrections Officer in the head, he was arrested and charged with 2nd degree Assault, he was arraigned and was remanded back to the Delaware County Jail.

64 year old Douglas Webb admitted in Chenango County Court to offering a false instrument for filing with the intent to defraud, he admitted to misleading Sherburne Earlville school officials on an application, where Webb allegedly did not disclose a 1987 conviction. Webb was originally indicted for offering a false instrument for filing with the intent to defraud, falsifying business records, plus 3 counts of forcible touching, and 3 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, while serving a bus driver for the district.

50 year old Andras Kasuba of Brooklyn pleaded guilty to DWI & Aggravated Vehicular Assault, in Delaware County Court, on March 18, 2023, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on Highway 26, Kasuba was the driver of one of the vehicles. 3 individuals needed extraction due to serious physical injuries sustained in the accident, Kasuba was intoxicated at the time of the collision and had caused the crash, he had a blood alcohol content of 2.5 times the legal limit. Kasuba was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff pending sentencing at a later date..

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald today declared that influenza is now prevalent in New York State, with a total of 23,313 positive flu cases across 60 counties in New York have been reported this season to date. Outside of New York City, week-over-week lab-confirmed flu cases are up 75%, rising from 2,058 cases in the previous week to 3,603. Hospitalizations due to influenza climbed by 48%, up from 270 in the previous week to 399 across the State. More information is available at nyshc.health.ny.gov.

A new law that begins January 1st will help new mothers in New York. The state is making it easier for new moms to take time off to care for their health before their babies are born, employees are now able to receive an additional 20 hours of paid sick leave for prenatal care, in addition to the existing sick leave. The state is also using $250,000 to start a grant program that will expand access to community-based program to help train, support and mentor, especially in vulnerable communities.

State Residents can celebrate the New Year at State Parks, historic sites, natural areas, environmental education centers, and public lands across the Empire State on January 1st. The 14th annual First Day Hikes program is offering varied hike options for people at nearly 100 locations across the state to enjoy, there will be no parking fees at all State Parks on New Year’s Day. Admission to State Park grounds is always free.

47-year-old Timothy Stone of Cooperstown is facing additional charges, after being arrested on December 6th following a report of physical child abuse at a residence in the town of Middlefield. Deputies responded to Stone’s residence a week later, to serve additional paperwork, they discovered a number of firearms within the residence, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a weapon on top of the previous charges of Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, endangering the welfare of a child, & criminal contempt. Stone was transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

Researchers have ventured to Stockton New York in Orange County where a complete mastodon jaw was discovered in the backyard of a home. The homeowner spotted two teeth hidden in a plant on their property and found 2 more teeth buried inches underground. Staff from the New York State Museum sent an archaeological team from their research department, and SUNY Orange is also investigating, their excavation unearthed additional fossils, including a full, well-preserved adult jaw and fragments of rib and toe bones that once belonged to a mastodon.

U.S. officials are sending a drone detection system to New York State after drones were spotted near Stewart Airport this week, following multiple reports in New Jersey and other surrounding states. Governor Hochul said that state governments need more power to deal with the small aircraft.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation addressing the opioid and overdose crisis epidemic, the 1st bill will require the Department of Health to distribute fentanyl test strips along with opioid antagonists to registered opioid overdose prevention programs, the 2nd bill will require the state to equip public institutions and buildings with opioid antagonists. & the 3rd bill will authorize health care professionals, including pharmacists to dispense drug adulterant testing supplies used to test for xylazine, which is a non-opioid used as a sedative, anesthetic, muscle relaxant, and analgesic for animals, but it is not FDA-approved for use in humans due to severe central nervous system depressant effects.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a report of a stolen vehicle from Delhi, 38-Year-Old Jared Barnes had used the vehicle without the owner’s permission, the vehicle was located by a tracking device on I-88 in the town of Afton. State Police, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Broome County Sheriff’s Office, assisted, a traffic stop was conducted and Barnes was transported to the Village of Sidney Police Department where Barnes was issued an appearance ticket for Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, he was released and directed to appear in the Delhi Town Court on a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a threat that was posted on Snapchat, Detectives located the owner of the account within minutes of the report being made, and charged a 15-year-old female with Making a Threat of Mass Harm. The unidentified juvenile is a student at Maine-Endwell High School.

The Otsego County Department of Health reports that a bat tested positive for rabies in the town of Oneonta, 1 person was exposed and started rabies post exposure vaccinations. All dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated for rabies, Unvaccinated pets in contact with wildlife that is suspected or confirmed to be rabid must be either euthanized or strictly quarantined at owner’s expense for 6 months. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 56 year old Scott Wood of Hamden for Driving While Intoxicated on November 16thth. Deputies responded to an assist EMS call on West Terry Clove Road for a male having trouble breathing, the male left the scene and was traveling on West Terry Clove Road. Deputies found a vehicle stopped in the roadway with a male asleep in the driver seat, who was identified as Scott Wood, who was charged with DWI & Driving with a BAC of .08 of higher, Open Container among other charges, he was released and will appear in the Town Hamden Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released the results of the targeted, 5-week public safety and crime response initiative conducted by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group in Binghamton. From October 10th to November 15th , the Group's efforts resulted in 19 Narcotics Arrests, 14 Warrant Arrests, 43 Vehicle and Traffic Arrests, they conducted over 800 traffic stop and issued over 760 traffic violations.

48 year old Scott Mawhiney of Deposit was found guilty in Broome County Court this week for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Assault, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon among other charges. On June 23, 2021, Mawhiney was involved in a domestic incident, the 2 female victims escaped, State Police responded, Mawhiney armed himself & shot at Trooper Ryan Thorp, who received a career tending injury from a bullet fragment striking him, Mawhiney will be sentenced on February 26. He faces a potential maximum sentence of 30 years to life in prison.

State Police will continue in a special traffic enforcement initiative to crack down on unsafe driving behaviors during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday through Sunday, December 1, 2024. State Police will supplement regular patrols statewide, including fixed sobriety checkpoints, which targets distracted drivers by utilizing Concealed patrol vehicles to better locate drivers talking or texting on handheld devices. Elevated traffic volumes are expected, and wintry weather is expected to impact portions of the state, including in the Catskills & North Country.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. Melius was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 counts of Criminal Contempt for possessing of firearms & ammunition despite having multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing them. Melius was taken in to custody and transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court for the above charges. The defendant was then transported to the Otsego County Probation Department where he was processed on a probation violation and arraigned in the presence of an Otsego County Court magistrate. Following arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.

U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced that New York will receive $360,185,996 in federal funding through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The money will help thousands of low-income households across the state afford their energy bills and make cost-effective repairs to their heating systems this winter. The State Department of Health today announced that as the transmission of seasonal respiratory illnesses is underway, the State’s weekly flu reports and Flu Tracker website have been activated. The Department’s first Weekly Report for the week ending October 19, shows there were 565 lab-confirmed cases reported across the state, with 26 people hospitalized and 5 outbreaks were reported in long-term and acute care facilities. A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8-count indictment against Robert Trago, Jr., and Ava Krajewski on a variety of charges including Attempted Murder, Criminal Use & Criminal Possession of a Firearm &criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Trago allegedly shot another person, while intending to cause his death, in the Town of Hancock on September 4th, Both face lengthy Jail Sentences if convicted on all of the charges.

33 year old Shaun Carman of Walton pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court last week. Carman admitted that on March 13th, in the Village of Delhi, he possessed a quantity of fentanyl with the intent to sell it, he will be sentenced to 2 years in state prison, followed by 1 year of post release supervision, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending final sentencing on December 16th.

41 year old Brian Canfield of Greene appeared in Delaware County Court for sentencing for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. Back on February 17th, Sidney police observed a vehicle parked and running with headlights on at the Sidney Memorial Public Library after the library was closed, a male was slumped over in the driver’s seat. Canfield failed the Standard Field Sobriety Testing, & drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, Canfield admitted that he was under the influence of Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl. Canfield was sentenced to 5 years’ felony probation, if he violates the conditions of his probation, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in State Prison.

23 year old Zachary Hoffman Kowatch of Oneonta was sentenced to 5 years of probation for his guilty plea to Attempted Reckless Endangerment, he was arrested on May 9th by State Police in Fleischmanns, for allegedly swerving his vehicle at a bicyclist and for yelling antisemitic slurs.

Delaware County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tina Mole issued a State of Emergency and instituted a county-wide burn ban as a prolonged lack of rainfall has caused abnormally dry environmental conditions, including dry ground cover which has increased substantially, leading to a significantly elevated risk of wildfires. The county-wide burn ban is in effect for all open burning, including, but campfires, brush piles, burn barrels, wood-stove ash dumping, leaf/yard debris, and torches or other devices containing an open flame.

State Police and local law enforcement have increased patrols through Halloween, targeting impaired and reckless drivers. The enforcement period began Friday, and it runs through this Thursday, October 31, drivers can expect several sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI patrols. In addition to targeting impaired drivers, law enforcement officers will also be looking for drivers that are distracted or speeding. During last year’s initiative, law enforcement officers issued 32,866 citations and 1,182 drivers were arrested for impaired driving and 6,495 drivers were ticketed for speeding.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced the unsealing of an indictment against 35 year old Darl Ellis Jr. of Binghamton, after a Grand Jury indicted Ellis. The indictments charged Ellis with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstructing Governmental Administration, he is accused of possessing cocaine, if convicted, he faces up to five and a half years in State Prison. Ellis was arraigned before the Delaware County Court, bail was set at $10,000 cash or $100,000 bond. The case is set for a pre-trial conference on November 4, 2024.

On Friday, Broome County Law Enforcement Academy held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. This year, 34 graduates representing 12 law enforcement agencies earned the rank of Officer or Deputy Sheriff, after 6 months of training. 2 of the Officers have been added to the Norwich City Police Department.

Otsego County Health Department reported that a bat tested positive for rabies Friday, the bat was found in the town of Maryland, all animals in the vicinity of the bat were up to date on their vaccinations, any human exposure is being investigated. Bassett Healthcare Network announced the elimination of around 100 positions, the majority were administrative. Patient care would not be affected by the layoffs, which represent 2% of their total workforce.

On Saturday, from 10 am. to 2 pm. the Norwich City Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event. The DEA and Norwich Police will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs, they can NOT accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors & New York City have to come to an agreement to stop New York City from buying up more land in the watershed region, Shelly Johnson Bennett of the Delaware County Planning Department told WCDO News how the agreement works for both sides:

Johnson Bennett said this was an important step after the 1997 Watershed Agreement, where the City wound up buying for more land that was originally agreed upon, & it gives Delaware County more options for growth than they have had in decades.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced Today, the creation of the SUNY Top 10% Promise Program, which will allow students in the top 10% of their class, who meet other applicable criteria, to be automatically accepted to select SUNY schools. Students would be able to sign a consent form allowing their school to share their academic info with SUNY, with no application, essay, or fees. The inaugural 2025 roll-out includes 9 SUNY schools, including SUNY Oneonta.

Next Tuesday, from 6pm - 7:30pm, Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar will be hosting a Public Safety Town Hall for residents of Windsor and the surrounding communities. The Public Safety Town Hall will take place at the Village of Windsor Community House, located at 107 Main St. in Windsor. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 people following the execution of a search warrant in the Town of Laurens. 31 year old Ronald Neu of Laurens was charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Feeding Devices. 21 year old Christopher Beech, was arrested on an outstanding warrant , as was 23 year old Alyssa Jones, & 20 year old Rafail Tsiraouglou. Deputies & Oneonta Police executed a search warrant, all individuals were detained for further investigation, Beech and Jones were turned over to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police respectively, Tsiraouglou was turned over to Immigration Officials. Weapons & narcotics were seized, Neu was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Endicott, they arrested 25 year old Jahmeek Bey Jones, for 7 felonies relating to possessing narcotics, items used to sell drugs & weapons, police seized Methamphetamines, Cocaine, scales, packaging materials & A loaded semi-automatic handgun with a high-capacity magazine, that reported stolen in Pennsylvania. Bey Jones was transported Central Arraignment Part Court and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

The Chenango County Health Department announced that a skunk found along Pleasant Street in the City of Norwich was tested by the State Wadsworth Laboratory, it was found to have rabies. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Tyrell Adams of Pittsfield on a number of charged following an investigation. Adams was charged with 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Forcible Touching, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Animal Cruelty & Criminal Contempt. Investigation revealed that over the course of several years, Adams allegedly subjected minors to persistent sexual abuse, Additionally he is accused of killing a family pet near children. Otsego County Family Court issued an order of protection against Adams prohibiting contact with multiple protected parties, he then sent Facebook messages to one of the protected parties. Adams was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 29 year old Eugene Buzie of Unadilla for multiple sex offense charges following an investigation. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office announces the addition of charges in to the investigation involving Buzie, On July 19th he was arrested by investigators for multiple sex offense related charges. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the defendant did request, receive and possess a sexual performance by a child through online sources & was charged additionally with Possession of Sexual Performance by a child, Buzie was still incarcerated on the previous charges, he was produced from the Oneida County Correctional Facility to be processed on the new charge, at the Otsego County Correctional Facility and he was returned to the Oneida County Correctional Facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for 40 year old Donald Shurock Jr. A Chenango County Deputy was called to a State Highway 26 in Pitcher Thursday for a suspicious vehicle complaint, the Deputy identified one of the occupants as Shurock, who has active warrants for his arrest. Shurock resisted arrest and fled the scene on foot, causing the Deputy to sustain physical injury. The Deputy was transported to a local hospital and was treated & released. Shurock is described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, balding with short brown hair, brown beard and mustache, wearing a black winter hat, blue/gray Carhartt jacket, jeans, and boots. In addition to the active arrest warrants, Shurock is now wanted on charges of Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. 23 year old Dakota Mann of Walton pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court Monday to 3rd degree Assault & Criminal Contempt. On May 17, 2024, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Walton for an ongoing domestic, where the caller & 1 other person claimed to have been assaulted by Mann, who violated an order of protection. Mann was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On July 1, 2024, while incarcerated, Mann assaulted & injured a fellow inmate, Mann was additionally charged with 2nd degree Assault. Mann faces sentencing on December 9th to 1 1/2 to 3 years in state prison for Criminal Contempt, and 1 year for Assault.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that 221 State and local government workers have been deployed to North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia to help with response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Richie Rodriguez of Bronx for Criminal Possession of Stimulant, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and a host of traffic tickets following an investigation after a traffic stop on State Highway 7 in the Town of Otego. Rodriguez was processed and held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed motorcycle without a license plate on I-81, a traffic Stop was initiated, the operator failed to comply onto Colesville Road to State Route 17, the motorcycle eventually had a mechanical failure and came to a stop. 29 year old Trae Salisbury of Binghamton had an unsecured dog on his lap throughout the pursuit, deputies secured the dog and placed Salisbury under arrest for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Carrying an Animal in a Cruel Manner & Numerous traffic violations. Salisbury was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court. The dog was transported back to its owner.

Binghamton Police are investigating the fatal shooting of 41 year old Tyrell Norris in his apartment on the city's North Side Monday Night. Norris was wounded by a bullet that was fired during a dispute in the parking lot outside the Town and Country Apartments at 100 Roberts Street. Norris was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where he was pronounced dead. Police also found out that another man suffered a gunshot wound to a foot about a block away from the Norris shooting at 104 Liberty Street. Norris was "an uninvolved party" who was struck by gunfire while in his residence, anyone with information should call Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080.

42 year old James English pleaded guilty to 2nd Murder today in Broome County Court. On June 6, 2023, English stabbed Jessica Picciano 31 times causing her death, English will be sentenced on January 7, 2025 where he is expected to receive 23-years-to- life-in State Prison.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Lori Devine of Sherburne for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Nuisance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Devine was charged after an investigation into drug activity, she is accused of selling Methamphetamine and Fentanyl from her residence in the Town of Sherburne, During the execution of the search warrant, Devine attempted to dispose of physical evidence, she was taken into custody, Officers seized Methamphetamine, and Fentanyl. Devine was arraigned & was released on her own recognizance. Devine is to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in New York State decreased over the month by 8,100, or 0.1%, to 8,393,400 in August 2024. The State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.3% to 4.4% in August, the statewide labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3% in August.

Emergency crews responded to an accident on I-88 yesterday afternoon at about 1:00 PM, between Oneonta and Otego. A tractor trailer went off of the road & tipped over onto its side, the driver was not injured.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Antonio Almovdovar of Oneonta on multiple charges for Assaulting and throwing feces on Correction Officers. Almovdovar was charged with Assault, Aggravated Harassment of an Employee by an Inmate, on September 17th Almovdovar ignored lawful commands by corrections officers to cease his actions, he became combative and during a struggle, a corrections officer sustained an injury that required medical treatment at Bassett Hospital, the following morning, he began to again become disorderly and proceeded to throw bodily fluids on to another corrections officer, After consulting with the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office, a bail recommendation of $10,000 cash, $10,000 credit card and $100,000 surety bond was requested.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 54 year old Stephen Kiss of Davenport for Criminal Contempt and Harassment following an Order of Protection Violation incident, in the Town of Davenport. On August 14th, Deputies responded to the Charlotte Creek Mobile Home Park, Deputies found that the victim had been harassed by Kiss while an order of protection was in place, On August 19th, Deputies arrested Kiss, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment.

Former Congressman George Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, he could face 7 years in prison under the terms of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Santos is scheduled to be sentenced on February 7th.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 75 year old Wayne Sparling of Walton for Aggravated Harassment. On July 23rd, Deputies received a complaint of a dispute between neighbors, they requested an Arrest Warrant from the Town of Walton Court. On August 7th, Deputies received an Arrest Warrant and arrested Sparling, he was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment Processing.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation that allows New York’s small craft manufacturers of spirits & cider, to ship directly to consumers. The new law takes effect in 90 days, allowing consumers to purchase New York’s craft spirits & cider and have it shipped to their home.

2 Broome County Corrections officers have been suspended without pay, following an incident of unnecessary use of force during an interaction with an incarcerated individual with suicidal pronouncements at the Broome County Correctional Facility on July 23rd. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar held a press conference, he said that corrections officers responded to a housing unit where an incarcerated individual was refusing to return to his cell and he was escorted to the Medical housing unit for observation, Sheriff Akshar explains:

Sheriff Akshar said that the officer; 39 year old James Woodard of Windsor was charged with Official Misconduct & Harassment, Both Woodard and the other unidentified officer were immediately suspended without pay while both the investigation and internal disciplinary processes continue, the case has been reported to the state’s Commission of Correction and the state’s Attorney General's office. State Police arrested 50 year old Bryan Howard of Mount Vision, Monday for 4 counts of Reckless Endangerment, following an investigation of “shots fired” at State Route 205 in the town of Laurens. A resident discovered bullet holes in the kitchen window where he and his family reside. Troopers located and interviewed Howard and determined he shot in the direction of the residence recklessly engaging in conduct which creates a grave risk of death to another person. Howard was processed and transported to the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment and Processing.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old John Coss of Andes for 3rd degree Assault, Criminal Mischief , Public Lewdness and 2 counts of possessing a controlled substance. On Monday Deputies were on patrol in the Village of Delhi and observed an altercation, they found that the clerk at the Speedway Gas Station was attempting to ask an intoxicated patron to leave the property after urinating on the building, and while doing so, was assaulted. Coss was found to have a quantity of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl in his possession, he was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

State Police arrested 20 year old Joseph VanBlarcom of Margaretville for Reckless Endangerment as a Hate Crime & Aggravated Harassment. Troopers responded Monday afternoon to a Jewish Synagogue in Fleishmanns, an investigation determined that VanBlarcom threw objects and recklessly swerved his vehicle at three Jewish men while yelling obscenities. Over 670 NYSEG Customers were without power this morning, after thunderstorms came through the region last night, most of the outages are in Butternuts, Morris & Gilbertsville. The number improved to 325 in the afternoon hours, as crews continue to work to restore the power.

State Police updated & clarified the story about an incident in the town of Barker yesterday, they reported that a spill was caused by a farm tractor pulling a manure tanker, that made attempts to avoid a vehicle & then struck a guide-rail, causing the attached tanker to overturn and spill nearly 500 liquid gallons of manure was spilled. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Delaware County DA's Office announced that 35 year old Dimitri Escrich of Deposit was sentenced sentenced to 10 years of felony probation supervision, with sex offender terms and conditions, he was also ordered to pay fines and surcharges of $1,425, after he pleaded guilty to Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. If Escrich violates the terms of his probation supervision, he is subject to being re-sentenced to 1.3 to 4 years in state prison.

37 year old Paul Fontana, Jr. of Delhi pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Delaware County Court Monday. Fontana appeared for a scheduled suppression hearing, prior to the hearing, he pleaded guilty in order to satisfy an indictment which alleged that Fontana had illegally possessed 10 or more firearms, including “ghost guns” in his home. The Village of Delhi Police and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded after a complaint was lodged that Fontana was making threats to harm himself and others. Fontana will be sentenced to serve 6 years in state prison, and an additional 5 years of post-release supervision.

State Police arrested 72 year old Thomas Jacobson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for DWI & Reckless Driving. Troopers received information that a vehicle was traveling the wrong way on State Route 17, they located the vehicle, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Deposit. Troopers attempted to flag down the driver from the opposite lanes but were unable to gain his attention, Jacobson stopped near mile marker 274 in the town of Sanford when another vehicle blocked the roadway. Jacobson was arrested, his BAC was .17%. He was issued appearance tickets to the Sanford Town Court on August 2nd.

On July 3, State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Chenango and Otsego Counties. During the initiative, 10 businesses were checked for compliance. All ten were found in compliance and did not sell any alcohol to the underage operative, in Norwich, Oxford, Greene, Smithville Flats & Morris. During these investigations, businesses are checked utilizing a Trooper in plain clothes and one or several underage operatives who cannot lie about their age or provide a false date of birth. State police also announced that 22 people were arrested for DWI, from June 28th to July 5th in Troop c.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report from a 14-year-old victim from the Town of Lisle regarding sexual contact by 72 year old Marshal Morehouse of Marathon. Investigators worked with Child Protective Services to establish a safety plan and safe residence for the victim while the investigation took place. Following an investigation, Morehouse turned himself and was charged with 2 counts of Sexual Abuse & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Morehouse was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Lisle Court.

Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force collected $89,000 and cocaine after conducting an investigation into the sale of cocaine on June 14th. The task force executed a search warrant at 47 St. Charles St. in Johnson City and a financial institution, 25 grams of Cocaine, packaging, scales, cutting agents and around $89,000 were recovered, Krystal Newborn was arrested and charged with several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia, Newborn was arraigned at Central Arraignment and released pending further court action.

Delaware County officials announced that with the heat & humidity, several public libraries will serve as cooling centers, including in Andes, Bovina, Delhi, Margaretville, Roxbury, Sidney & Walton, In observance of Juneteenth on Wednesday, some libraries may be closed. Residents are also asked to check up on elderly neighbors, avoid extreme exercising in the heat, drink plenty of water.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Nikita Kingsbury of Oneonta after she agreed to meet a confidential informant in Davenport for the purposes of selling controlled substances. Kingsbury arrived with her boyfriend, 43-year-old Lloyd Hunt, they were both taken into custody, they were in possession of Fentanyl and Suboxone at the time of their arrest. Hunt was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and was released on an appearance ticket, Kingsbury was arrested on an unrelated Bench Warrant issued by Delaware County Court for a failure to appear in Court, she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. Last Week, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kingsbury at the Delaware County Jail for Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, she was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 44 year old Robert Collins of Sherburne for Criminal Contempt and Resisting Arrest. Collins was spotted by a deputy on the property where an order of protection was issued, Collins began to resist arrest with the Deputy and did not comply with lawful orders, he was taken into custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail pending action in Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

19 year old Qualem Hernandez of Binghamton, pleaded guilty last week in Broome County Court to Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Hernandez will be sentenced to 8 years in New York State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on September 13th. On April 12th, Hernandez opened fire in the direction of individuals in the City of Binghamton. The Binghamton Police Department investigated the shooting and with the assistance of visual recording devices and Street Cameras they were able to identify and arrest Hernandez.

The Chenango County Health Department will hold a rabies Vaccination clinic for dogs, cats & ferrets today at the Coventry Highway Department, from 5:30 TO 6:30 P.M. Pre-Registration is required at 607-337-1673, a $5 Donation is suggested.

29 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was sentenced to 6 years in prison and two years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez pleaded guilty and admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, 2024, and that she had intended to sell it.

Sidney Fire Department responded at about 11:30 this morning for the report of smoke showing at 11 Division Street. Sidney Fire Chief John GIlmore told WCDO News that a faulty light bulb in the basement was the cause of the smoke, no injuries were reported.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office said that 2 people were taken to area hospitals, following a serious accident on State Route 369 in the Town of Fenton on Saturday. The investigation revealed that at approximately 5:52 PM, the driver of a silver Honda Civic traveling northbound on State Route 369 near Rogers Road failed to negotiate a turn and crossed over into the southbound lane, colliding with a purple SUV. No fatalities were reported, but both drivers were hospitalized and treated for serious injuries. The unidentified driver of the Honda Civic was issued multiple traffic violations.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Tory Lugo of Oneonta following an assault investigation in the Town of Oneonta. Lugo was charged with 3rd degree Assault & Harassment, he was held for Otsego County Centralized Arraignment, where he was released on his own recognizance to appear at the above court at a later date.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Jeremy Vanpelt of New Berlin following an investigation of a domestic dispute in the Town of Edmeston. Vanpelt was charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Circulation, Aggravated Harassment, & 2 counts of Harassment, he was later arrested on a probation violation, he was processed and was held at the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. An order of protection was issued to the victims of the domestic dispute.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded Tuesday evening to the report of a 2 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oxford, that resulted in 1 fatality. Deputies attempted life saving measures to 1 of vehicle operators who was ejected from the vehicle, Raymond Smith of Oxford, eventually succumbed to his injuries from the accident. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved self-extricated and were transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. The investigation revealed that Smith was traveling West bound on County Road 35 when another vehicle operated by a juvenile was traveling south bound on State Highway 220 and failed to stop at the intersection, striking the passenger side of Smith's vehicle. The investigation is continuing.

Broome County District Attorney office announced that an indictment was unsealed in Broome County Court charging 40 year old Tiease Cooper with one count of 2nd degree Manslaughter, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. In April 2023, Cooper is accused of recklessly causing the death of a 13-month-old child by knowingly possessing and knowingly allowing other persons to possess fentanyl at 77 Saratoga Avenue in Binghamton in a manner that allowed the 13-month-old child to ingest fentanyl. Cooper was arraigned on the indictment, entered a not guilty plea & was released under the supervision of the Pretrial Release Program, with specified conditions of release.

Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach announced that 4 members of his Department were awarded letters of Commendation as well as 2 officers being awarded a Citation of Bravery with a pin of Valor, On April 24th, Officers Scott Laughlin & Tyler King responded to a Trespass in progress call, that turned out to be an ambush and a suicide by cop ploy. Both Officers were awarded Citations of Bravery and pins of Valor. Sergeant Martin was awarded a Citation of Commendation for his leadership during this incident. On May 4th, Officers Taylor Waite & Tyler Dexheimer apprehended an individual who was operating a stolen vehicle from a forcible robbery that had occurred earlier that day in the City of Cortland. Officers Waite & Dexheimer, as well as their Sergeant, Steven Rounds, were awarded Citations of Commendation for their actions.

44 year old Cruz Garcia was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for Unlawful Imprisonment, Attempted Assault and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. The indictment alleges that Garcia attempted to cause serious physical injury to a female victim when he strangled her & held her against her will in June 2023 in the Town of Middletown. Garcia was arraigned on the Indictment in Delaware County Court this week, and pleaded not guilty, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was already being held on unrelated charges.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for missing sex offender Matthew Knapp on an outstanding warrant for violating probation for a Sex Offender Registration Violation. Knapp is a white male 6 foot tall about 250 pounds with brown hair & blue eyes, he was last known to frequent the Upper Court St. area of the Town of Kirkwood. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 67 year old Michael Murphy of Rochester for assault after an investigation on April 29th at a residential facility in the Town of Delhi for a complaint of a staff member being assaulted by a patient. Deputies identified the patient as Murphy, who had allegedly struck the staff member. On May 1st, Deputies received a criminal summons for 3rd degree Assault from the Town of Delhi Court, Deputies learned that Murphy was at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown from an unrelated incident, Murphy was subsequently arrested and issued the summons and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect regarding numerous car larcenies that took place at the in the Town of Conklin Saturday Night & early Sunday Morning. The suspect was captured on a home surveillance video and appears to be wearing a stocking over their head. It is believed the suspect is operating a dark colored SUV. Norwich Police Department received a call Saturday about an individual stealing from parked vehicles in the Norwich High School Parking lot, Officers located the suspect, 28 year old Matthew Maricle of Cincinnatus, in a stolen vehicle and a 30-mile vehicle pursuit ensued from Norwich to Mount Upton, where he ran the stolen vehicle into a ditch. Maricle was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Fleeing of a police officer, Resisting Arrest & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. It was learned that Maricle had forcibly stolen the vehicle from an 81-year-old male in the City of Cortland, 3 days of being released from prison, Maricle will be held pending arraignment at Norwich City Court.

The Village of Sidney annual Spring Clean up will be the week of May 6th through the 10th, village crews will pick up Brush piled at the curb, as well as leaves, grass clippings, weed-stalks & hedge trimming in open containers or clear bags, all of the items must be placed by the curb by 7:00 AM today.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 18 year old Steven Cook of Vestal for Attempted Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Cook is accused of soliciting pornographic images from a 12-year-old girl. Deputies responded last week to a 911 report from a 12-year-old victim in the Town of Union, who informed investigators that she had been talking and exchanging explicit messages with Cook where he allegedly attempted to initiate sexual contact with the minor and attempting to solicit pornographic images from her. During the execution of a search warrant, Cook was uncooperative with investigators, but was eventually taken into custody, Cook remains in the custody of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office awaiting arraignment.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 38 year old Andrew Bethune of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 4 years in New York State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On January 25, 2023, authorities conducted a search of Bethune's apartment located at 111 Oak Street, Apartment 4 in Binghamton, they seized cocaine, fentanyl & methamphetamines, plus packaging materials, a digital scale and $5,481 in cash from suspected drug sales.

National Baseball Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark announced that a Hank Aaron statue will be unveiled at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on May 23. The bronze representation of Aaron will be installed on the first floor of the Museum. Aaron was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1982 following a 23-year big league career with the Braves and Brewers, Aaron launched his 715th career home run 50 years ago today. Aaron’s Hall of Fame plaque made a rare appearance outside of the Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery when it traveled to Atlanta for today’s event, the plaque will also be featured at Truist Park today for fans to view at this evening’s Braves-Mets game.

A raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Meredith. This is the first laboratory confirmed positive case of rabies in Delaware County in 2024. A rabid raccoon entered a cow barn in the town of Meredith and attacked and bit a cow. The raccoon was sent for testing to the State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory. The cow that was attacked and bitten has been euthanized. There were no human exposures, and no other domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. The Delaware County Chamber will Host their annual Legislative Forum, on Monday, April 22, starting at 9:30 am, in the Okun Theatre at SUNY Delhi. Brian Mulder of Union Grove Distillery in Arkville, will appear on Discovery Channel’s Moonshiners: Master Distiller program. 3 distillers from across the United States compete to become Master Distiller. The State Police are working alongside other state agencies in preparation for the solar eclipse at approximately 3:00 PM today, with a narrow path of totality across Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Watertown, Lake Placid and Plattsburgh. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Aaron Talbot of Norwich for Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of an Address Change, which is a violation as Talbot is a level 3 convicted sex offender in New York. Talbot is accused of failing to register his new address within 10 days of his move, he was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a parole warrant and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Justin Ingalls of Milford following a welfare check in the Town of Milford. Ingalls was charged with Driving while intoxicated, Driving while ability impaired by drugs, Criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as Miscellaneous Traffic Violations, after an investigation revealed that Ingalls had been operating a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired by drugs, he was released on appearance tickets for Town of Milford court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols responded to reports of suspicious activity in and around an apartment building in the Town of Union Friday. The investigation revealed that 31 year old Miguel Martinez had broken into a second-floor apartment through a bedroom window. The noises alerted a downstairs neighbor, who called 911. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols & State Police located Martinez nearby and placed him in custody without incident, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary & was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement were informed of the arrest of the undocumented Martinez and will coordinate a transfer of custody at a later date.

The Norwich City Police Department has concluded the investigation into the armed robbery on May 23, 2023, at Holt’s Hemp Emporium. Varun Maharajh of Trinidad, also known as Kelvin Sihgh, is in Federal Custody in Florida, he was taken into custody on separate federal charges in November by the Indian River Sheriff’s Office, after a high-speed chase, he was charged with 7 counts in a federal indictment that alleges he knowingly attempted to export firearms and ammunition to the United Kingdom, as well as illegally and unlawfully possessing numerous firearms and ammunition. The Norwich Police Department is working with the Chenango County District Attorney’s and criminal charges are expected to be filed against Maharajh in the near future.

The State Department of Health announced the 3rd case of measles in 2024, The case was identified in a patient who resides in Nassau County and was confirmed at the Department's Wadsworth Lab in Albany. The State Health Department is closely monitoring this case, along with Nassau County health officials, and have alerted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first 2 cases were reported in New York City.

36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Baker admitted that he had possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney. Judge Hubbard ordered the Delaware County Probation Department to conduct a pre-sentencing report, it is expected that Baker will be sentenced to 2 1/2 years in state prison to be followed by one year of post release supervision, he will likely be enrolled in the Lakeview Rehabilitation Program as part of his state prison sentence.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Donald Lane of Portlandville for being in violation of the State Sex Offender Registry. Lane was charged with Sex Offender Failure to Update Change of Address, following an investigation that revealed that Lane relocated away from his residence in excess of the 10 day grace period required for sex offenders to update an address change. Lane was located by the Canajoharie Police Department and was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on an unrelated matter. On March 11th 2024, the defendant was formally charged with the above charges and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon located in the Town of Preston tested positive for Rabies by the State's Wadsworth Laboratory. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Kenneth Dillman of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with an Ignition Interlock device following a traffic stop in the Town of Harpersfield. Deputies observed Dillmann operating a motor vehicle, they knew that Dillmann had 22 suspensions on his revoked license, A traffic stop was conducted, Dillmann was charged & was issued traffic tickets and Appearance Tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

State Comptroller’s Office announced that 2 Otsego County area businessmen have been indicted for a $1 million Medicaid transportation fraud scheme. 46-year-old Philip Mtui and 47-year-old Mbaga Kaiza were partners in Phinaliz Communications, they allegedly sought and received payments for rides that did not actually happen and billed multiple times for rides that did occur. This resulted in $1 million being stolen from Medicaid, they were charged with 1st Degree Grand Larceny & they face court action on May 6.

The US Department of Veteran’s Affairs announced that all Veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military are eligible to enroll directly in VA health care through the recently signed PACT Act. NYSEG is reporting additional success in getting power back on following yesterday's high winds knocking down tree limbs & power lines, area counties are back on, crews have shifted efforts to Sullivan County where about 1200 were without power this afternoon.

The State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for January. The State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.6% in December 2023 to 4.5% in January 2024. Locally, Chenango County had 4.5% unemployment in January, Delaware County had 5.2% & Otsego County had 5.3%.

Delaware County Board of Elections reminds are voters that the Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at your usual polling site from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The Food & Drug Administration announced that some types of ground cinnamon products sold at discount stores are being recalled because of elevated levels of lead. The Cinnamon in questions locally was available at stores like Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, under the Supreme Tradition name, sold by Greenbriar International, of Chesapeake, Virginia, the cinnamon can be returned to the stores for a refund, or should be disposed of, the cinnamon with lead has been pulled from the shelves at the stores in question.

Guilford Firefighters with assistance from other area departments responded to a report of a basement fire at 427 Ives Settlement Road, which was called in at about 4:30 PM Monday. The basement fire was knocked down quickly, Guilford received assistance from Bainbridge, Sidney & Oxford fire Departments.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Joseph Grace of Norwich on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & 1 count of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Grace was arrested following a traffic stop, they seized Grace's Backpack & applied for a search warrant on that backpack, which contained 180 wax envelopes containing Fentanyl/Heroin, 14.3 grams of crystal Methamphetamine, a digital scale, and other materials used to sell illegal narcotics. Grace was processed & was released on an appearance ticket for City of Norwich Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Tyler Clark of Unadilla following an investigation into a report of sexual abuse allegations. Clark was charged with 2nd degree Rape & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for allegedly performing sexual acts with a minor under the age of 17, Clark was taken to the Otsego County Correctional Facility and was released after arraignment, an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

46 year old Kellie Sanderson of Walton, appeared in Delaware County Court & was sentenced for her conviction of Welfare Fraud. Sanderson previously pleaded guilty to Felony Welfare Fraud was was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision, she must pay restitution to the Delaware County Department of Social Services & she must submit a DNA sample to the State DNA data bank and pay the $50.00 DNA fee. Sanderson is also disqualified from applying for or receiving temporary assistance for 18 months & disqualified from SNAP for 24 months, Sanderson previously was found guilty of Welfare Fraud in 2014.

The State Office of Consumer Services and the Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection assisted 276,000 New York households with a variety of consumer protection matters, returning nearly $9.7 million to consumers in 2023. The Public Service Commission conducted nearly 25,000 investigations, resulting in the Department returning nearly $7 million to consumers, while the Division of Consumer Protection handled 26,137 consumer complaints and inquiries returning nearly $2.7

million to consumers.

38 year old Randy Condon of Sidney appeared in the Delaware County Court for sentencing on one count of 2nd degree Burglary. Condon admitted that he unlawfully entered a seasonal residence in the Town of Masonville and stole dozens of weapons, a chainsaw and other items, Condon was arrested on July 2, 2023, in the Town of Maine and charged with burglary, he was sentenced to a 7-year sentence to be followed by 10 years of parole supervision.

Delaware County Sheriff''s Office arrested 43 year old Misty Cintron of Sidney on a Bench Warrant issued by the Delaware County Court, for failure to appear to answer to several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, tampering with physical evidence, and criminally using drug paraphernalia. Investigators received information that Cintron was living in an apartment in the Village of Sidney, Sheriff's Office Investigators & the Village of Sidney Police Department were able to locate Cintron and take her into custody without incident. Cintron was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.

The State DEC released hunting safety statistics for the 2023 seasons , there were 12 incidents during the hunting seasons, tying with 2019 for the 2nd fewest hunting-related shooting incidents on record. The 12 Shooting Incidents recorded in 2023 include 6 two-party firearm incidents and 6 self-inflicted incidents; 2 of the shootings resulted in fatalities.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43 year old Brian Boore of Oneonta following the investigation into a complaint at the Otsego County Correctional Facility. Boore was charged with 3rd & 4th degree Criminal Mischief, he is accused of intentionally damaging property at the Sheriff’s Office property, he was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

The investigation is continuing into the death of 38 year old Connie Manwarren of Otselic, who was found deceased on February 10 at the side of a road. State Police are waiting for the results of an autopsy & the investigation is ongoing.

Binghamton Police are investigating after a man was found dead Saturday morning near State Route 363 and Exchange Street. Emergency Crews pronounced the man dead, Police announced that it was 29 year-old Tyler Beschorner of Binghamton who was found dead, anyone with information can call (607) 772-7080.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Joshua Whaley of Pitcher for Criminal possession of a Controlled substance, criminal use of drug paraphernalia & criminal possession of stolen property. Members of State Parole searched Whaley’s property and located a shotgun, and a case containing fifty wax envelopes of Fentanyl and packaging material, a pick up truck with an altered vehicle identification number, which was reported stolen out of New Hartford, Whaley was processed and was held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on his Warrant. Whaley is to appear in the Town of Pitcher Court at a later date.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced support for bipartisan legislation to help expand the mental health workforce in underserved communities. The Mental Health Professionals Workforce Shortage Loan Repayment Act would incentivize mental health professionals to practice in underserved areas by offering them student loan forgiveness up to $250,000. 55 Out Of New York’s 62 Counties, Don’t Have Enough Psychiatrists, Psychologists, or Social Workers to address the growing mental health crisis in New York State.

Former Teacher Benjamin Moyse of Delhi, pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Official Misconduct by a Public Servant, in Delaware County Court. A Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 11 count indictment last year against Moyse, where he was accused of intentionally aided a person under 16 years of age, to possessing and disseminating child pornography, and that he failed to follow Delaware Academy’s policy and procedures when students and parents reported that students were being sexually abused. Moyse was sentenced to a conditional discharge of 1 year for each count. Separate proceedings by the State Department of Education, Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability are pending, his teaching license is being revoked in New York State.

Attorney General Letitia James announced today that a federal appeals court has upheld a court order that New York, the Federal Trade Commission and 6 other states won against convicted criminal Martin Shkreli for engaging in illegal and monopolistic behavior as the CEO of Vyera Pharmaceuticals. The Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed the January 2022 decision of the District Court for the Southern District of New York, which found that Shkreli violated both federal and state laws by engaging in an illegal scheme to maintain a monopoly over a lifesaving drug, Daraprim, after increasing its price by over 4,000%, Shkreli is banned for life from the pharmaceutical industry and ordered to pay $64.6 million.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 20-year-old Rebecca Stickle of Livingston Manor for an alleged Assault on January 3rd, in the Town of Walton. Stickle is accused of making threats to a female victim that she would hit her with her vehicle. Stickle then attempted to leave the scene, and subsequently struck the female victim, causing physical injury. On January 13th, Deputies, assisted by State Police located and arrested Stickle at her residence she was charged with 2nd degree Assault & was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility to arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 20 year old Timothy Taylor of Starlight Pennsylvania, formerly of Franklin last year for the charge of Endanger the Welfare of a Child and Sexual Misconduct. On September 27th, 2023, the Town of Hancock Court had issued an Bench Warrant for Timothy Taylor for Failing to Appear for a scheduled Court hearing. On December 31st, the Delaware County was contacted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s office that they had taken Taylor in custody on unrelated charges. Taylor was turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff Deputies where he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await the Centralized Arrangement Process.

In 2023 the Sidney Police Department announced that they handled a total of 3,063 calls for service. The Department report said that they responded to 2,032 calls that were criminal in nature, 76 of those were felonies, there 73 animal complaints, 150 were EMS or Fire related, 287 were assisting another agency, 79 were mental health incidents & there were 73 Motor vehicle accidents in Sidney in 2023. Amidon had a backpack containing methamphetamine, a digital scale, and packaging materials, He will appear in the Town of Norwich court at a later date.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 37 year old Paul Fontana of Delhi was indicted & arraigned on a 27 count indictments. Fontana is accused of possessing weapons, ghost guns, a 3d printer to make ghost guns, & for selling the illegal weapons, plus he was accused of possessing oxycodone, and for menacing an individual, after his apartment was targeted for a search warrant that was executed on on Monday. more details are expected to be released later today.

Troopers Steven Missale and Ronald Raymond observed a Mercedes E350 Wednesday traveling on I-87 between exit 15 and exit 15A, The driver of the vehicle was wanted in connection with a attempted homicide in Albany, A traffic stop was conducted & 35 year old Rakim Tillery of Albany, fired on the troopers who both returned fire, striking Tillery, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. Troopers Missale and Raymond were transported to an area hospital and were released, the investigation remains ongoing.

45 year old Kellie Sanderson of Delhi, pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud in Delaware County Court, she submitted several false applications that failed to disclose income to the Department of Social Services & was overpaid a total of $9,219.00 in public benefits, after she failed to report financial gifts that she failed to disclose to the Department of Social Services. Sanderson will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision with a requirement to pay restitution.
