The Norwich Police Department investigated a stabbing on Rexford Street in the City of Norwich Wednesday at about 5:30 PM. Police arrested 40 year old Jason Chase of Marathon for 2nd degree Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Norwich Police Department located the victim who had stab wounds to his neck and forearm, the victim was taken to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition, Officers located and arrested Chase at Gold Street in Norwich, the stated that during an altercation, Chase allegedly produced a “brass knuckle knife,” and stabbed the victim several times, he was arraigned & was being held without bail, pending further hearings.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that law enforcement agencies throughout the State issued 20,714 tickets for various vehicle and traffic law violations, including 4,374 tickets for speeding and 966 tickets for drug or alcohol impaired driving during a statewide mobilization. The Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign ran from August 30 through September 2nd.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for the passage of legislation that would provide free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack to all schoolchildren regardless of income:

Gillibrand said that Studies show that Free school meals are associated with a variety of positive outcomes, including improved attendance rates and school performance, fewer behavioral incidents, lower suspension rates, better health outcomes, and reduced financial stress for students and families.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Ronnie Hernandez on a Fugitive from Justice complaint. The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division received information that Hernandez was an Inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility & he had an active warrant from the Pennsylvania for stealing a motor vehicle, valued at $30,000. Fernandez was arrested and arraigned on the Fugitive from Justice Complaint at the Delaware County Central Arraignment Court and remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending extradition to the State of Pennsylvania.
23 year old Elijah Gibson of Endicott, was sentenced today in Broome County Court to 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On December 30, 2023, in the Village of Endicott, Gibson possessed a loaded and operable 9mm firearm, leading to his arrested & conviction.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that the Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8-count indictment against 32 year old Drew Garnier of Masonville for the murder of his wife Samantha, and the attempted murder of their 2 children. Garnier was indicted for 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Criminal use of a firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, for possessing assault weapons, he pleaded not guilty to each charge & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office without bail.
State Police arrested 55-year-old Daniel Erickson of Greene, for 2nd degree Rape with a victim under the age of 15, and endangering the welfare of a child, in Bath New York earlier this year. Erickson previously pleaded guilty in April to luring a 16-year-old child in Broome County after having multiple sexually charged texts, at the time he was the Johnson City Middle School Principal.
The Chenango County Historical Society and the Chenango County Historian’s Office will collaborate on “An America 250 Conversation.” These two organizations are seeking input from the people of Chenango County on how local communities will participate in the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The discussion will be tonight from 6–8 pm. at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus.
Chenango County Habitat for Humanity will be hosting their annual yard sale fundraiser today from 9 am. to 5 PM, tomorrow & Saturday from 9 am. to 3 PM, on State Route 12 in Oxford next to the Mirabito Gas Station. There will be a variety of items available for sale, including adult and children’s clothing, shoes and boots and much more.

State Police responded Wednesday night to a residence on Houck Road in the town of Masonville for a reported domestic dispute, called in by Drew Garnier. Troop C Commanding Officer Lucas Shuta commented today at a Press Conference at Troop C Headquarters:

Garnier was arraigned at Delhi Town Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional facility without bail.
A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4-count indictment against 41 year old Darcee Lewis of Oxford, for 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 2 counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia. On August 14th, a search warrant was executed by the Village of Sidney Police Based on information provided by State Parole Officers, they located narcotics and drug paraphernalia, Lewis is accused of possessing methamphetamine, fentanyl with intent to sell, as well as scales, loaded needles, and packaging materials. Lewis was arraigned & was remanded on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
32 year old Evan Middleton of Johnson City, was sentenced today as a Second time Felony Offender to 12 years in State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance On April 6, 2023, after the execution of a narcotics search warrant at Middleton's residence at 58 Massachusetts Ave in Johnson City, Middleton was found to be in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, with the intent to sell.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford woman for animal cruelty after Deputies responded to County Highway 35 in the Town of Milford for a welfare check. Bachanas was charged with Abandonment of Animals, Failure to provide proper sustenance, Deputies located several animals abandoned, malnourished and mistreated. 2 emaciated dogs in critical condition were transported to Cornell University animal hospital. A 3rd dog was located deceased as well as a turkey and a quail. 2 quail were rescued for foster and rehabilitation. The Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University and Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation. Bachanas was issued appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies announced that the 1992, 1994, and 2014 Binghamton Mets championship teams will be the 2024 inductees to the Binghamton Baseball Shrine, presented by IBM. State Police responded late last night to a residence on Houck Road in the town of Masonville for a reported domestic dispute. 32 year old Drew Garnier of Masonville, was charged with 2nd degree Murder and 2 counts of attempted Murder. Garnier allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife, 29 year old Samantha Garnier & their 2 children. Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies rendered aid to Samantha prior to EMT’s arrival, she was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. 1 child was taken to Wilson Medical Center but later transferred to Upstate Medical Center. A second child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. Both children are expected to survive. Garnier was arrested on scene and taken to A.O Fox Hospital and upon release, he was processed at Troop C in Sidney & was transported to the Delaware Correctional Facility where he was remanded without bail.
State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in the town of Hancock for a report of a shooting Wednesday Morning. A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with a non-life-threatening injury. 60 year old Robert Trago Jr., of Hancock, was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was located just before 3:00 pm., in the Margaretville area and taken into custody. Trago Jr. was taken to Delhi where he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, $400,000 bond.
The Delaware County Planning Board announced that they plan to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, to guide future growth, development, and preservation in the County. Fisher Associates will lead the planning process and public engagement efforts. Public Input Sessions will be on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hobart Community Center & Tuesday, September 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Walton Fire Hall, on West Street. The input gathered from the public survey and during these initial input sessions will be reviewed by Delaware County Planning and Fisher Associates, followed by additional opportunities for public review and comment.
Broadway In Binghamton will host an open house event Tuesday, September 10 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering patrons an opportunity to explore the Forum Theatre and "Test Drive" seats for the upcoming season. State Police responded late Tuesday Night & early Wednesday Morning to 2 multiple vehicle crashes on I-81 in the towns of Lisle & then Marathon. The 1st accident occurred when 28 year old Singh Simran of Calgary, Alberta went off the roadway into the grassy median & attempted to bring the tractor trailer back into the roadway but overturned, blocking both lanes, 19 year old Danial Kirmani struck the cab with his car, 2nd tractor trailer operated by 67 year old Mykola Khudyk of Quebec collided with the trailer portion of the first tractor trailer, Kirmani was transported to Wilson Hospital for minor injuries. in the 2nd accident, in the town of Marathon, 31 year old Nicholas Espino of Bronx, failed to observe another tractor trailer slowing down, driven by 34 year old Gregory Wilson of Mexicao New York, & rear ended it, No injuries were reported. The portion of I-81 from Marathon to Lisle was closed for several hours due to the dense fog, clean up & the investigation of both crashes, The highway was reopened at 8:30 Wednesday Morning.
The Workforce Development Board is sponsoring a free virtual job fair on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
