The State Police Troop C Violent Gang Narcotics Enforcement Team & Community Stabilization Unit conducted a traffic stop Saturday on a vehicle on State Route 206 in the town of Downsville after observing Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. The operator of the vehicle was Maurice Stewart, who was charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Police seized cocaine, methamphetamine, 2 cell phones & Cash, Stewart was processed & was transported to the Delaware County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

The Delaware County Board of Supervisors has approved funding for a countywide Fire Services Assessment to be conducted by Emergency Services Consulting International. The approval follows recommendations from the Delaware County Fire Advisory Board’s Recruitment and Retention Committee and an overwhelming majority of County Fire Chiefs regarding the challenges facing Delaware County’s volunteer fire service. The Delaware County Board of Supervisors approved Resolution No. 96 authorizing the transfer of $73,828 to retain ESCI to perform the assessment, which should take about 9 months to complete following project initiation and data collection.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 60 year old Robert Sanfelice of the Town of Union, for allegedly harassing a neighborhood family because of their race and ethnic origin since 2020. Sanfelice was charged with several Counts of Harassment, Sanfelice was taken to Central Arraignment where he was released on his own recognizance, to appear in the Town of Union Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old Ryan Barriger of Walton following the execution of an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Walton Court. On June 24th, Deputies responded to an "in progress" domestic incident, Deputies found that Barriger had engaged in a physical domestic with another person while a child was present, Thursday, Deputies received court documents they located & arrested Barriger, he was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment & he was processed, arraigned & was released on his own recognizance and was directed to reappear at the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Makayla Rutherford of Hartwick, for 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Hartwick. Rutherford is accused of possessing illegal controlled substances while having custody of 2 children, she was arrested and processed on the charges & was turned over to Otsego County Corrections pending Arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Sandra Schaffer of Franklin following the investigation of a domestic incident. On May 20th, Deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident in the Town of Sidney. Schaffer allegedly kicked another person in the chest, Deputies submitted requests for a Criminal Summons and an Order of Protection, Deputies received the documents & on June 17th, Schaffer was charged with Harassment, she was issued the Order of Protection & was released and ordered to appear in the Town of Sidney Court at a later date to answer the charge.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a scam where callers are contacting residents and reporting that they are from the New York State Electric & Gas, The scammers state that there is an overdue bill and that if the bill is not immediately paid, the resident's electricity will be shut off. The Sheriff;s Office reported that people should never give personal financial information to cold callers, they should hang up, and contact local law enforcement if they feel that they were scammed.

The Oneonta Town Board has approved a 1 year moratorium to stop new data centers or cryptocurrency mining. The moratorium affects plans by Eco-Yotta from building a data center on County Road 9 in the Town of Oneonta, the plan requires State Approval to be implemented.
The Chenango County Department of Public Health will be visiting area towns through June 30th, to educate the community on the importance of Lead and Lead Poisoning, with their annual "LEAD WALK" that has continued since 2012. Deputies responded to a call of a missing vulnerable adult in the Town of Edmeston, Deputies quickly initiated a coordinated search & they deployed a Sheriff’s Office Unmanned Aerial System equipped with thermal imaging technology, Using the drone’s advanced capabilities, deputies successfully located the individual in a field. The K-9 team and responding deputies found the missing person, who was suffering from hypothermia and complaining of hip pain. The victim was taken to Bassett Medical Center for further evaluation.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Johnathon Brezinsky of Sidney for Promoting prison contraband at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Investigators were notified by Correctional Facility Staff that an Inmate was found to be in possession of dangerous contraband within the Facility, Brezinsky was arrested, arraigned and was remanded back to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 dollars cash bail, $20,000 dollars partially secured bond, and he faces court action shortly.
Delaware Opportunities is contracted to run the County Senior meals program at 6 locations, plus with deliveries, funded through state and federal subsidies, during contract negotiations with the County, officials determined that the program is not sustainable at the current costs, on Tuesday, the County Board of Supervisors Office for the Aging oversight committee moved to provide for a pro-rated contract with Delaware Opportunities to expire on December 31, then in 2027 the Senior Meals program would be administered through the county rather than a 3rd party. If Delaware Opportunities ceases operation immediately, Delaware County would continue the service without interruption as a County-run program, through the Office for the Aging, with no change to site or staff.

Vestal Police responded Wednesday to a report of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis in the area of 581 Sequoia Lane, officers encountered an individual who was in possession of a knife and threatening self-harm. During the course of the interaction, officers made numerous requests for the individual to drop the knife. The individual ignored commands and threw a television at officers & raised the knife and advanced toward an officer. Despite the continued de-escalation efforts, shots were fired and the individual was struck. The individual was transported to Wilson Medical Center. No officers were injured during the incident. State Police will conduct an independent investigation into the circumstance surrounding the shooting. State Police announced that the individual was identified as 38 year old Eslam Ahmed Hegazy of Vestal, he has succumbed to his injuries.

Chenango County officials remind residents that public transportation from Cathay Express Transportation will begin Monday, March 9th. Cathay Express will offer a fare-free day on March 9th to allow everyone to experience the service and learn the routes, Regular fares for Individual passengers will be from 50 cents to $3.00 per ride and a monthly passenger pass will be between $20 to $40. 4 Binghamton men who were arrested February 4th by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office on 11 felony weapons charges have been remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility following an indictment filed by the Broome County District Attorney’s Office in Broome County Court. Samear Wallace, Johnathan Ayala, Isaiah Johnson, and Jahliek Walker-Coates, were charged with a total of 11 felony weapons charges following an investigation into gunshots fired in the Town of Dickinson, they were found to be in possession of 4 loaded ghost guns, one stolen and loaded handgun and six high-capacity ammunition feeding devices, including a 50-round drum magazine.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies investigated a trespassing complaint earlier this month, they interviewed the victim who accused 40-year-old Kristen Rice of Hancock had entered and remained in the dwelling of another person despite being asked, and that Rice subjected another person to unwanted physical contact. Deputies arrested Rice for Criminal Trespass and Harassment, Deputies transported Rice to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for processing, she was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility & was held for arraignment.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop in Delhi February 10th, the driver provided Deputies with a false name and date of birth, K9 Dexter discovered Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, plus scales and packaging materials. 43-year-old Adam Bright of Delhi was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, plus Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator among other traffic violations, Deputies transported Bright was turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be held for Arraignment.

Chobani had their new site plan changes approved by the Rome Planning Board on Tuesday night, as they continue with their expansion plans in New York State. Chobani was leasing over 168 acres on a golf course from Oneida County, but the acreage has been reduced to 93 acres in the new plan, Chobani plans to have the new facility running in 2027, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year.

A Chenango County Grand Jury indicted 21 year old Kaylub Rifanburg of Norwich for 2nd & 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon and possession of burglar’s tools. The indictment states that on August 25, Rifanburg was stopped by Norwich Police following a report of an erratic driver, Police discovered a loaded 9mm pistol, a large-capacity magazine, and a backpack containing ski masks and a lock pick. He faces court action on the Grand Jury charges at a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office and family members of a missing Vestal man are still seeking answers to help locate 69 year old Eddie Rouhana, who been missing since January 11th. Rouhana was last seen at his business, Cars-R-US, located at 1170 of Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango. Cell phone records show his phone was last used later that same day. The Rouhana family is offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads directly to Eddie Rouhana’s whereabouts. The New York State Department of Health has sent out an alert, warning New Yorkers or a new scam. Health department officials stated that Telephone scammers are mimicking the Department, some New Yorkers have been receiving phone calls from people identifying themselves as a Department of Health Employee, they will ask for information about a controlled substance prescription, adding to the confusion, the caller ID may even say the caller is from the Department of Health. Officials said that the Health Department will not make such calls to private citizens, they advise people who receive these calls to hang up & alert local law enforcement.

Chobani announced that the City of Rome Planning Board approved Chobani's plan to build a facility, consisting of 8 buildings. A new design was required as the FAA said parts of the original facility were too close to the runway of the Griffiss Airport, and the 130 foot building is being moved to another part of the campus.

41 year old Kenneth Todd of Middletown, pleaded guilty in County Court to 1 count of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, he admitted that he and two other individuals entered City of New York property by breaking through a locked gate and stole a DEP owned woodchipper. Todd was placed on interim probation for 1 year, He has to complete 100 hours of community service, If he were to violate these conditions, his sentencing date will be moved up and he faces the potential of 2 and 1/3 to 7 years in state prison.

33 year old Drew J. Garnier of Masonville was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison to be followed by 15 years of post-release supervision for the killing of his pregnant wife Samantha and assaulting his 2 daughters. Garnier admitted to repeatedly stabbing his wife and children in their home on Houck Road in the Town of Masonville on September 4, 2024. Samantha and her unborn daughter died as a result of the stabbing. The children suffered significant injuries. Garnier pleaded guilty to 1st degree Manslaughter, and 2 counts of 1st degree Assault in March in Delaware County Court.

Delaware County sheriff's office provided an update regarding the head on collision on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Tuesday, where 1 of the vehicles went over an embankment. 3 of the occupants escaped from their vehicles, 1 was trapped. A vehicle operated by 68-year-old Steven Wilson of Irvington, crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on with an SUV operated by 19-year-old Lauren Winans-Houck of Roscoe, her SUV exited the roadway and traveled over the embankment. A passenger of the SUV was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital and was released. Winans-Houck was transported to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton for treatment of injuries and leg fractures, Wilson, and his passenger were air-lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, the passenger was treated for fractures & was released, Wilson remains in critical condition due to multiple fractures and internal injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
39 year old Kyle Butler of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. As a Second Felony Offender, Butler faces up to 12 years in State Prison when sentenced in Broome County Court on August 12th. Butler was arrested after a search warrant was executed by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force in November, where investigators uncovered cocaine, fentanyl, and U.S. Currency.

Over 4 dozen animals were removed, including 30 horses, all animals were all in need of medical care & were taken to various animal rescue locations around the region, Police located multiple deceased animals on the property. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved $273 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State. Locally, Funding was approved for the City of Norwich for $4 million in grant and interest-free financing for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment plant upgrades, the Village of Sherburne receives $3.7 million grant for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced nearly $220 million in federal funding to support counter-terrorism and emergency preparedness efforts across New York State. The funding is provided by the FEMA, it supports planning, organization, equipment, training and exercise activities which are critical to sustaining and improving community prevention, protection, response and recovery capabilities. Locally, Chenango & Otsego Counties get over $93,000 each, Delaware County receives more that $85,000.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded last month to a Harassment complaint in the Town of Davenport. 75-year-old George Sydlar of Davenport had engaged in a course of conduct, which alarmed or annoyed another person, and Deputies requested a criminal summons to be issued by the Davenport Town Court, last week Deputies arrested Sydlar, he is scheduled to return to the Davenport Town Court at a later date. Sydlar was sentenced to 30 days in jail earlier this year after he falsely reported that his neighbor committed a crime, and he refused to cooperate with authorities during the investigation.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that the South Abington Police Department in Pennsylvania located & arrested Donald Shurock, who is being held in the Lackawanna County Jail pending his extradition back to New York. Shurock was wanted since last week, he had been located in a vehicle by a deputy, resisted arrested and fled the scene on foot, the Deputy was treated & released for injuries sustained in trying to arrest Shurock. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for reckless endangerment, two counts of unlawful fleeing, and one count of resisting arrest. The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a road rage incident after a caller reported that Bishop's Van ran a vehicle off the road in Sherburne, additional calls described Bishop cutting off and tailgating other vehicles, he was located in Norwich, deputies attempted a traffic stop, he failed to comply, struck multiple vehicles and his vehicle became disabled, he fled on foot but was taken into custody after a taser was deployed. Bishop was also charged with numerous traffic citations & faces court action at a later date.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced over $27 Million Dollars in federal funding for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative, which provides electricity to over 5,000 families, farms, and local businesses in Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties. The Delaware County Cooperative will lead a partnership composed of 6 small electric cooperatives across 3 states to increase grid resilience against outages caused by weather events and tree damage caused by invasive species. The Cooperative will deploy advanced software to enable proactive grid management, as well as hardware such as grid sensors and drones to provide real-time data and monitoring capabilities.
The Delaware County Board of Elections announced that the ballot drop box previously outside the Board of Elections Office at 97 Main Street in Delhi, has been removed. Officials stated that It was taken down by maintenance in response to a directive from the chair of the Board of Supervisors, Tina Mole, citing security issues and a contentious election. Anyone who received an absentee or early vote by mail ballot who prefers not to return it by mail can deliver it to the Board of Elections office during normal business hours, from 8:30AM to 4:00 PM, and during some extended hours during early voting being held at our Delhi Office, October 28 through November 3. Absentee/early mail ballots can also be delivered to any poll site on Election Day, November 5th.

Worden was charged with Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband when he failed to take his prescribed medication properly and attempted to remove the medication from the medication room but was caught by a Correctional Officer, he was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Last week, the Sheriff’s Office received information that 21 year old Dawensley Astrel of Binghamton had an active arrest warrant out of the state of Georgia for Murder, he was enrolled as a student at Broome Community College. The Sheriff's Office coordinated with SUNY Broome Campus Safety to take Astrel into custody without incident, he will be extradited back to Georgia to face murder charges.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 3.8% in August compared to the same month in 2023, after stagnant figures in July, according to data released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. County and city collections in the rest of the state totaled $945 million, an increase of 3.5%. 45 of 57 counties experienced year-over-year increases.

An investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male of Oneonta, NY sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a dispute involving several individuals, he was taken to A.O. Fox Hospital by a private vehicle and was later transported to Bassett Hospital for further care. The vehicle carrying the victim was hit by gunfire during the incident. 34 year old Ishmael Seabrook of Oneonta was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon & Reckless Endangerment, State Police were assisted by the Oneonta City Police Department, Seabrook was arraigned at the Otsego County Jail and was remanded without bail.

Broome County Sheriff Road Patrol deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident involving 2 vehicles Early Sunday morning on Morgan Road in the Town of Binghamton. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar identified the deceased as 29 year old Charles Burrell of Conklin, who was ejected from 1 of the vehicles, he said that the operators of the 2 vehicles were engaged in a continuing dispute over women & narcotics, they engaged in a road rage incident that ended with the fatality. 20 year old Cody Diffendorf of Kirkwood & 26 year old James MacDowall of Binghamton were each charged with 2nd degree manslaughter, both are in the custody of the Broome County Correctional facility pending future court action.

State Police responded late last night to a residence on Houck Road in the town of Masonville for a reported domestic dispute. 32 year old Drew Garnier of Masonville, was charged with 2nd degree Murder and 2 counts of attempted Murder. Garnier allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife, 29 year old Samantha Garnier & their 2 children. Troopers and Sheriff’s Deputies rendered aid to Samantha prior to EMT’s arrival, she was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. 1 child was taken to Wilson Medical Center but later transferred to Upstate Medical Center. A second child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. Both children are expected to survive. Garnier was arrested on scene and taken to A.O Fox Hospital and upon release, he was processed at Troop C in Sidney & was transported to the Delaware Correctional Facility where he was remanded without bail.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with a non-life-threatening injury. 60 year old Robert Trago Jr., of Hancock, was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was located just before 3:00 pm., in the Margaretville area and taken into custody. Trago Jr. was taken to Delhi where he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, $400,000 bond.

25 year old Justin Robinson of Homer, Michigan is facing the charges of Criminal Contempt and Harassment, following an Order of Protection Violation, which occurred in the Town of Kortright. On May 25th, 2024, Delaware County Deputies responded to a domestic dispute they arrested Robinson for Criminal Trespass and Harrassment, he was arraigned, an order of protection was issued On Monday, Deputies were advised that Robinson had returned to the residence of the victim, Deputies arrested on the Criminal Contempt & Harrassment charges, he was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested a current Delaware County Inmate. Last Friday, Investigators of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received information that 48-year-old Deanna Besser of Brooklyn was a fugitive from the State of Pennsylvania, with outstanding warrants for failure to appear on a total of 16 separate charges not related to the Delaware County charges. At the conclusion of their investigation, Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Besser on a Fugitive from Justice complaint. Besser was later arraigned at the Delaware County CAP court and was remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to the State of Pennsylvania.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced recommendations by the State Board for Historic Preservation to add 15 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Locally the house at 120 Balcom Road, in Mount Vision built in 1810 was nominated, along with The Methodist Episcopal Church and the Free Church were both built in 1857 directly across the road from each other in North Harpersfield.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Pamela Fox is now in Custody. The Office announced Wednesday that there was an outstanding warrant for Fox's arrest for a Violation of Probation for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle. State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 44 year old Erin Walker of Union, for 3rd degree Grand Larceny and Falsifying Business Records. An investigation revealed that Walker embezzled approximately $12,000 from American Window Cleaning Company in the town of Fenton from 2016 to 2022. Walker was arrested and brought to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Central Arraignment.

The National Transportation Safety Board released information regarding the crash of a single engine Cessna Airplane on May 28th in the town of Plymouth at about 2:50 PM, the pilot, Shawn McMahon of Binghamton, was fatally injured. The plane flew 2 separate sky diving flights that day, a co-owner of the airplane reported that following the 2nd flight, McMahon determined that he had 40 gallons of fuel. During the accident flight, McMahon announced that the skydivers were away & he was descending rapidly, a follow up announcement was unintelligible. 1 eyewitness told investigators that an airplane flew near her house very low, with the engine sputtering & the pilot attempted to start the engine unsuccessfully & she heard the impact, another eyewitness heard the engine shut off earlier when the skydivers jumped, the engine restarted and the plane continued. The investigation is continuing.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 29 year old Autumn Transue of Denver Colorado was indicted for Driving While Intoxicated. On March 8th, Transue is alleged to have operated a motor vehicle while intoxicated, she was stopped by the Colchester police. The indictment accused Transue of felony DWI, & driving with a blood alcohol content over .08%. A warrant for Transue's arrest has been issued, if she fails to appear, the DA’s office will work on extradiction.

Sentencing was delayed in Chenango County Court for William Sabines of Oxford, Sabines pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, concealment of a human corpse and attempted criminal possession of stolen property, in connection with the burning & dismemberment death of Jesse Donlin of Unadilla & Sidney in 2019, & hiding Donlin's vehicle in Chenango County. Sabines was originally scheduled to be sentenced last Friday.

State Police issued 39 tickets in Broome County during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers from the Troop C Traffic Incident Management Unit monitored traffic on State Route 17 in the town of Sanford where road crews were completing bridge work. The 39 tickets issued included 13 for speeding, 8 for cell phone use while driving, 12 were for not wearing seatbelts, and 6 were for other assorted violations.
Delaware County Public Health has a free rabies vacciantion clinic today at the Walton Town Highway Garage, for dogs, cats & Domesticated ferrets. The Clinic will run from 5:00 to 7:00 PM today.

State Police arrested 29 year old Reinaldo Perez-Granado of Glendale, for Unlawful Surveillance, the investigation revealed that while at Chenango Valley State Park, Perez Granado entered a bathroom, reached over the stall and took photos of the child while a child was changing, the child alerted their parent and provide a detailed description of the man, the parent alerted a lifeguard, Park Rangers then State Police. Perez Granado was arrested and was processed, he was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. The Broome County Special Investigations Task Force executed a search warrant in Kirkwood, they arrested 27 year old Chandler Hmurcik of Kirkwood and 29 year old Desiree Buckley of Castle Creek on a variety of counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, & criminally using drug paraphernalia, Police seized methamphetamine, Fentanyl Pills, Scales, and packaging materials used for weighing, and packaging narcotics for sale, both were taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, Hmurcik was released, while Buckley remains at the Correctional Facility due to an outstanding warrant with the Binghamton Police Department.
The Guilford Town Board will hold a Public Hearing at 7:00 PM tonight at the Guilford Town Hall at 223 Marble Road, for the purpose of hearing public comments on the proposed Unsafe Structures Law. State Police arrested 44 year old Reghan Parker of the town of Union for Possession of a Forged Instrument and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers observed a vehicle making vehicle and traffic violations, with an unlicensed driver operating the vehicle. Troopers said that the owner was Reghan Parker, who was in possession of suspected methamphetamine. Troopers also found that Parker’s vehicle had a homemade piece of paper on the front windshield attempting to represent a New York State Inspection sticker. Parker was issued appearance tickets to Broome County Centralized Arraignment and Processing.
Chenango County Sheriff's office arrested 30 year old James MacDuff of New Berlin today for 2 counts of Aggravated cruelty to animals, 2 counts of Failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal, and 2 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, failure to provide proper sustenance in the Town of Norwich. MacDuff was charged after he allegedly left 2 dogs locked in cages with no food or water in an uninhabited residence for over a month, both of the dogs died as a result. Neighbors alerted law enforcement after they noticed a foul smell coming from the residence. When law enforcement arrived, they found two decaying corpses that were still locked inside of their cages. Subject was arrested and released on an appearance ticket. He is set to appear in the Town of Norwich court on a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 55 year old Daniel Erickson of Greene, who was the Principal of Johnson City Middle School, & who has been charged with luring a child and 3rd degree attempted rape. On Friday, Detectives arrested Erickson following an investigation into suspicious behavior involving a minor that attends Johnson City High School. Erickson is accused of communicating by Snapchat with a 16-year-old female student, he agreed to meet with her in a remote location with the intentions of engaging in sexual acts, however, detectives were at there and he was taken into custody without incident. Erickson was taken to Central Arraignment, he was remanded to the Correctional Facility without bail. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division assisted the State Office of Cannabis Management Enforcement Division at an inspection of a local business known as HEMPIRE on State Highway 30 Roxbury. Since June 7th, the New York State Office of Cannabis Management and the State Department of Taxation and Finance have conducted inspections of unlicensed cannabis retail businesses, At the HEMPIRE location, the proprietor did not have the necessary license required to legally sell hemp or cannabis, they seized about $40,000 worth of illicit products. Hempire was issued a Notice of Violation and Cease Order, Businesses found in violation are required to appear at administrative hearings where fines and penalties will be determined.

The process will continue with the overtime threshold limit reducing by 4 hours every other year until reaching 40 hours in 2032. More information is available at dol.ny.gov/farm-laborers-wage-board.

The Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative's Local Planning Committee Meeting announced a 4th meeting will be held virtually on ZOOM on Monday, April 25th at 3:00 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to continue the Committee's discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. The meeting is open to all members of the public, with time reserved at the end of the meeting for public comment. The ZOOM link can be accessed on the WCDO Facebook page.
The New York Cannabis Control Board approved the first batch of 52 adult-use cannabis cultivation licenses allowing already established hemp farmers to begin growing marijuana for recreational use. Approval for the farmers comes two months after Gov. Hochul signed legislation creating a new Conditional Adult-use Cannabis Cultivator license that ensures existing hemp growers would get first crack at getting seeds in the ground. The new conditional cultivator licenses are good for up to two years and will allow New York growers to manufacture and distribute cannabis flower products without holding an adult-use processor or distributor license, until June 1, 2023. A 45-day public comment period will begin on May 4 and then the board will review the regulations.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies responded on Sunday to a residence on Knapp Road in the Town of Sherburne for a reported Shooting. Deputies located 39 year old Joseph Hubbard of Poolville, deceased inside of the residence from a gunshot from a rifle. There were also two other adults and children inside the residence at the time of the incident. The parties involved were known to each other. There is no danger to the public and all parties involved have been identified and the investigation is ongoing, with assistance from State Police.

The Broome County Health Department reports an increase in opioid overdoses in 2022 compared to numbers in the previous year. For the first quarter of 2022 there has been 21 suspected fatal overdoses and 147 reported non-fatal overdoses. In 2021 Broome County reported a total of 54 total suspected fatal overdoses and 516 reported non-fatal overdoses.

Norwich received a $10 Million Dollar award, Topics discussed during this meeting include an overview of program status, DRI project evaluation criteria, and a review of projects submitted as part of the City’s DRI application & those received through the Open Call for Project Proposals.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched Saturday to the State Hwy 10 and Falls Mills Rd in the Town of Delhi for a report of a male subject walking in the roadway. A 2nd call stated that a male subject had been struck by a passing motorist in that same vicinity. Deputies & Delhi Fire Department & EMS located 18 year old Damyan Bonilla of Chester New York, who was taken to O’Connor Hospital with injuries & he was later transferred to Bassett Medical Center for further treatment. Deputies determined that Bonilla was walking on State Route 10, he was struck by a vehicle, the investigation in on-going.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested 24 year old Austin Kuczek of Newfield for 2 counts of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, for allegedly sending inappropriate images to juveniles. Kuczek was formerly a member on the Newfield Town School Board and a teacher’s aide in the Ithaca City School District. He is currently the Recreation Director in the Town of Newfield, he was released on appearance tickets to the Newfield Town Court at a later date.

Hartman claimed to be with a fire department, he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, who sustained an arm injury & was treated & released at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Several hours later, State Police received an additional sexual assault complaint in the Town of Otego. Hartmann was located by Troopers at his residence, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. An order of protection was issued, more charges are expected.

Former Oneonta Mayor David Brenner passed away Friday at the age of 90. Brenner served on the Otsego County Board of Representatives for many years, in 1985 he was elected Mayor of the City of Oneonta, a position he held for 12 years. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz Street in Oneonta. The State Supreme Court, Appellate Division has ruled Delaware County was justified in terminating former Department of Social Services Commissioner, Dana Scuderi-Hunter and her petition to be reinstated and receive back pay was denied. In 2019, Delaware County filed charges against Scuderi-Hunter for misconduct, insubordination, and child endangerment. Under Civil Service Law, an independent Administrative Hearing Officer was brought in to review evidence, hear testimony, and make a recommendation to the Delaware County Board of Supervisors regarding the case, the Officer found significant evidence to support the charges and recommended immediate termination with no back pay.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on Patrol on State Highway 97 in the Town of Hancock last Friday observed a pick up truck driving in a reckless manner in the parking lot of a commercial facility. At the conclusion of their investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies determined that the operator, 21-year old Porter Crawson, of Long Eddy was operating his motor vehicle while both his driver’s license and registration were suspended. Crawson was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Operating with a Suspended Registration. Crawson was later released on traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy and his 21-year-old son were killed and the deputy’s wife was in critical condition Tuesday after the three were shot inside their home. Off-duty Onondaga County Deputy Isaac Eames was found shot to death inside his home in the town of Clay at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, the deputy’s wife, 46 year old Karen Eames and son, 21 year old Troy Eames were also shot inside the home and were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Troy Eames died later Monday and his mother was listed in critical condition, The investigation is continuing.
