Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Thomas Toomer of Oxford for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 1 count of Aggravated Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 1 count of Criminal Contempt. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office responded to Toomer’s residence to serve an eviction notice, Toomer and an additional occupant of the residence were removed, the other occupant had an order of protection against Toomer. Toomer was then taken into custody without incident. Several firearms, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines were located in the residence. Toomer had 3 previous Felony convictions & was not allowed to have firearms, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending additional court action in Chenango County Court.
WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull has a fall golf tournament coming up this weekend at the Colonial Ridge Golf Course in Morris to support The Nate Lull Scholarship, Lull said he wasn’t planning on another Tournament, but the chance to add to the scholarship fund made was a no brainer:

On September 18th, 2024 the Sidney Police Department began an investigation into a social media post that made a threat to several specific students of the Sidney School District. The same threat was also directed to several specific students of the Walton School District. Sidney Police Department has charged a 14 year old female with one count of Making a terroristic threat and four counts of Aggravated harassment, Due to the subject's age she was issued a juvenile appearance ticket to appear at the Delaware County Probation Department and released.
State Police is warning the public of a nationwide automated sextortion scam in which scammers use people’s email address to coerce payments using intimidation. Scammers obtain emails and other personal information purchased illegally on the dark web to contact victims, & claim to possess images of the victim viewing pornographic material and threatens to disclose this content to everyone in their contact list unless they pay in Bitcoin, however, the scammer does not have access to the victim’s device or personal information. If you receive one of these emails, do not engage or share any personal information, Victims should block the sender, delete the email, and report it through the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov or call the FBI at 1‐800‐CALL‐FBI. State Police or local law enforcement agencies can also assist with criminal investigations.

34 year old Rashima Rollocks of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court. On June 19, 2023 Rollocks committed a violent assault on a seventy-five-year-old blind man inside his home in the City of Binghamton. Rollocks is scheduled to appear back in court for sentencing on November 7th, where she is expected to receive 7 years in New York State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Gary Garbera of Cherry Valley following a Grand Larceny investigation. Garbera is accused of stealing a vehicle in the Village of Gilbertsville. Garbera was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to Town of Butternuts Court.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced that families participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children can receive double the benefits to spend at participating farmers’ markets, helping to supplement their food budgets and purchase healthy, local products. 38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was sentenced to additional jail time for assaulting a fellow inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. On February 20th, Corrections Officers of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fight occurring in one of the housing units at the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Upon arrival, officers broke up the fight between Skeete, & 2 other inmates, Corrections Officer Bryce Charles eventually deployed a taser to break up the fight. Skeete appeared in Delaware County Court this week & entered a guilty plea to 3rd degree Assault, he was sentenced to 7 months incarceration, a $25 Crime Victim fee and surcharge, and a $50 DNA fee.
The 8th Annual Savannah Williams Memorial Scholarship Fundraising Golf event will be held this Saturday. The registration starts at 11:00 AM at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich, the day will also feature the Beadle Brothers performing at the Pavilion at 5:30 PM. The Scholarship is named after Williams, who was a Norwich High School Graduate who was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2016 while attending SUNY Geneseo.

State and local law enforcement issued more than 37,000 tickets over the 4th of July enforcement campaign this year, State and local law enforcement charged 1,227 people for driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. State Police arrested 251 people for DWI, 4,248 for speeding, 1,315 for not wearing a seat belt, 360 for distracted driving, and 219 for failing to abide by the Move Over Law.
Chenango County residents are signing up for the next Household Hazardous Waste Collection day to be held on August 10th at the Chenango County Highway Garage on Rexford Street in Norwich. David Blackman of Chenango DPW told WCDO News what they can not accept at this event:

U.S. District Judge La Shann DeArcy Hall dismissed an unidentified State Trooper’s claim of retaliation against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, ruling that the retaliatory action Cuomo took against her occurred after her employment contract had already ended. Judge Hall said that whether the threat happened or not, the plaintiff identified as “Trooper 1” had failed to establish discrimination and retaliation claims against Cuomo & both of his former aides, while they were still in office.

The Chenango County Health Department reported that a skunk found along County Route 27 in the Town of Oxford was tested on July 10, 2024, by the NYS Wadsworth Laboratory and was found to have rabies. The Health Department did not report of any human or domesticated animal exposure to the skunk, more information is available at (607) 337-1673
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that the Property tax levy growth will be capped at 2% for 2025 for local governments that operate on a calendar-based fiscal year. The figure affects tax cap calculations for all counties, towns, and fire districts, as well as 44 cities and 13 villages. DiNapoli’s office calculated the 2025 inflation factor at 3.3% for those local governments, which set the cap at the 2% allowable levy increase.

A SINGLE ENGINE PLANE CRASHED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN A WOODED AREA NEAR TROUT CREEK IN THE TOWN OF MASONVILLE. IT HAS BEEN LEARNED THAT A FAMILY OF 5 ALL DIED IN THE CRASH. THE FAMILY WAS IN COOPERSTOWN FOR A BASEBALL TOURNAMENT AND WERE RETURNING HOME TO THEIR HOME STATE OF GEORGIA. OVER 20 DIFFERENT EMERGENCY CREWS SEARCHED FOR THE PLANE YESTERDAY BEFORE DEBRIS WAS FINALLY LOCATED IN A HEAVILY WOODED AREA NEAR LAKE CECIL ROAD AND HERRICK HOLLOW ROAD NORTH OF TROUT CREEK. THE DECEASED WERE IDENTIFIED AS 76 YEAR OLD ROGER BEGGS, 43 YEAR OLD LAURA VAN EPPS, 42 YEAR OLD RYAN VAN EPPS AND THEIR TWO SONS, 12 YEAR OLD JAMES VAN EPPS AND 10 YEAR OLD HARRISON VAN EPPS. SEARCH TEAMS USED A HELICOPTER, DRONES AND ATV'S TO LOCATE THE CRASH SCENE. THE FAA AND THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD, ALONG WITH THE NEW YORK STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE CRASH.
AREA STUDENTS WILL HAVE AGAIN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE CAREER OPTIONS IN HEALTHCARE DURING A TWO DAY SUMMER CAMP IN AUGUST. THE PROGRAM IS HOSTED BY UHS CHENANGO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN NORWICH AND WILL PROVIDE STUDENTS A CHANCE FOR HANDS-ON AND EXPERIMENTAL LEARNING ACROSS A NUMBER OF HOSPITAL DEPARTMENTS. PROGRAM COORDINATOR, BECKY YACANO SAID THE PROGRAM WAS HALTED DURING THE PANDEMIC AND THEY ARE EXCITED FOR IT TO RESUME. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 8TH & 9TH GRADES. A SINGLE ENGINE PLANE CRASHED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN A WOODED AREA NEAR TROUT CREEK IN THE TOWN OF MASONVILLE. IT HAS BEEN LEARNED THAT A FAMILY OF 5 ALL DIED IN THE CRASH. THE FAMILY WAS IN COOPERSTOWN FOR A BASEBALL TOURNAMENT AND WERE RETURNING HOME TO THEIR HOME STATE OF GEORGIA. OVER 20 DIFFERENT EMERGENCY CREWS SEARCHED FOR THE PLANE YESTERDAY BEFORE DEBRIS WAS FINALLY LOCATED IN A HEAVILY WOODED AREA NEAR LAKE CECIL ROAD AND HERRICK HOLLOW ROAD NORTH OF TROUT CREEK. THE DECEASED WERE IDENTIFIED AS 76 YEAR OLD ROGER BEGGS, 43 YEAR OLD LAURA VAN EPPS, 42 YEAR OLD RYAN VAN EPPS AND THEIR TWO SONS, 12 YEAR OLD JAMES VAN EPPS AND 10 YEAR OLD HARRISON VAN EPPS. SEARCH TEAMS USED A HELICOPTER, DRONES AND ATV'S TO LOCATE THE CRASH SCENE. THE FAA AND THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD, ALONG WITH THE NEW YORK STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE CRASH.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded Tuesday evening to the report of a 2 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Oxford, that resulted in 1 fatality. Deputies attempted life saving measures to 1 of vehicle operators who was ejected from the vehicle, Raymond Smith of Oxford, eventually succumbed to his injuries from the accident. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved self-extricated and were transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation. The investigation revealed that Smith was traveling West bound on County Road 35 when another vehicle operated by a juvenile was traveling south bound on State Highway 220 and failed to stop at the intersection, striking the passenger side of Smith's vehicle. The investigation is continuing.
Broome County District Attorney office announced that an indictment was unsealed in Broome County Court charging 40 year old Tiease Cooper with one count of 2nd degree Manslaughter, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. In April 2023, Cooper is accused of recklessly causing the death of a 13-month-old child by knowingly possessing and knowingly allowing other persons to possess fentanyl at 77 Saratoga Avenue in Binghamton in a manner that allowed the 13-month-old child to ingest fentanyl. Cooper was arraigned on the indictment, entered a not guilty plea & was released under the supervision of the Pretrial Release Program, with specified conditions of release.
Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach announced that 4 members of his Department were awarded letters of Commendation as well as 2 officers being awarded a Citation of Bravery with a pin of Valor, On April 24th, Officers Scott Laughlin & Tyler King responded to a Trespass in progress call, that turned out to be an ambush and a suicide by cop ploy. Both Officers were awarded Citations of Bravery and pins of Valor. Sergeant Martin was awarded a Citation of Commendation for his leadership during this incident. On May 4th, Officers Taylor Waite & Tyler Dexheimer apprehended an individual who was operating a stolen vehicle from a forcible robbery that had occurred earlier that day in the City of Cortland. Officers Waite & Dexheimer, as well as their Sergeant, Steven Rounds, were awarded Citations of Commendation for their actions.
State Police and other Law Enforcement Agencies will be out in full force this Memorial Day Weekend, as the highways become busier with the Memorial Day Holiday, Last year, nearly 13,500 tickets were issued by troopers statewide during the Memorial Day Weekend.

44 year old Cruz Garcia was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for Unlawful Imprisonment, Attempted Assault and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. The indictment alleges that Garcia attempted to cause serious physical injury to a female victim when he strangled her & held her against her will in June 2023 in the Town of Middletown. Garcia was arraigned on the Indictment in Delaware County Court this week, and pleaded not guilty, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where he was already being held on unrelated charges.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 41 year old Gerald Johnson of Oneonta on an Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant issued by the Delaware County Grand Jury. On April 16th, the Delaware County Criminal Investigations Unit and Road Patrol division, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded to a residence in the Town of Oneonta, Johnson was located and arrested in Lantern Hill Mobile Home Park in the Town of Oneonta. Johnson was charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Petty Larceny, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $30,000.00 cash bail Or $100,000.00 secured bond. Johnson is scheduled to appear in the Delaware County Court at a later date.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in identifying a white truck regarding 2 separate burglaries to a barn on Bryce Road in the Town of Sanford. Video of the truck in question can be viewed at the Broome County Sheriff's You Tube page. On March 19th, a rust-colored 1930 Farmall tractor was stolen, on April 10th, an orange Moped, Blue Yamaha dirt bike and various tools were stolen, the same white truck was at both burglaries. Cutting admitted that on January 28, 2023, in the Village of Sidney, he intentionally choked an 18-year-old female, he will be sentenced to a state prison for 1.5 to 3 years, he is currently serving a 5-year state prison sentence for unrelated assault charges.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 28 year old Jessica Lopez of Sidney was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court Monday. Lopez appeared in Delaware County Court for an arraignment on drug related charges, she pleaded guilt after she admitted that she possessed fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on February 27, she intended to sell. Lopez will be sentenced to 6.5 years in state prison, and 2 years of post-release supervision on June 10th.
38 year old Tristan Skeete of Brooklyn was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, on one count of Assault, On February 20, Skeete allegedly caused physical injury to another inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, where he was being held as a federal inmate for violating the terms of his post-release supervision. Skeete can face up to 7 years in state prison.
