State Police arrested 65 year old Kenneth Powers & 28 year old Chelsea Gouse of Bedford Pennsylvania, for 22 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance. Troopers went to an apartment in Richfield Springs on another matter on July 19th, and discovered 22 animals inside living in crowded and filthy conditions. 10 dogs, 10 cats & 2 rabbits were removed & surrendered to the Susquehanna SPCA and were treated for various medical conditions, Powers and Gouse were processed and were issued appearance tickets to Richfield Springs Village Court on August 15th.

A raccoon in the Town of Kortright has tested positive for rabies. This is the third animal in Delaware County to test positive for rabies in 2023. One person was exposed to the rabid raccoon and has begun Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. No domestic animals were exposed to the rabid raccoon. Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics for cats, dogs, and ferrets in Delaware County.

The Norwich Police Department is investigating a homicide. Around 6:30 pm. on Sunday, officers responded to 89 North Broad St. for a welfare check and missing person complaint. During an investigation, police found the body of 44-year-old Alisa Ann Martin in the residence. Norwich Police are working closely with the State Police and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Norwich Police at 607-336-8477.

On Friday, State Police were at a property on County Road 29 in New Berlin, investigating another matter, when they discovered 61 dogs, 11 birds, and 3 cats, all of which were in questionable health, and many were being sold on Craiglist, according to Delaware Valley Human Society Director Erin Insinga, who responded to this New Berlin location, she said that people should either adopt animals at shelters & Humane Society or from licensed reputable breeders:

The Susquehanna SPCA hosted an event last week in Oneonta, to meet with others in the field of animal care, to establish a program to deal with large numbers of feral cats in area communities. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Steven Osei of Binghamton for 3rd degree Grand Larceny & other related charges for allegedly getting cash by depositing fraudulent checks at an ATM. Osei was processed & issued an appearance ticket for Town of Dickinson Court at a later date.
