State police arrested 33-year-old Bridgitt Eggleston of Bainbridge following the reported theft of as vehicle.  Eggleston was charged with 4 counts of 3rd degree grand larceny and 3 counts of 2nd degree grand larceny, following the investigation, she faces court action shortly.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year-old Vann Ross Shipley of Bainbridge as a fugitive from the State of South Carolina.  Shipley was wanted on a warrant issued by Horry County Family Court for failure to pay child support; he was arraigned in Chenango County Court & was remanded to the Chenango County jail without bail pending extradition back to South Carolina.

State police arrested Bradley Falkenmeyer of Bainbridge for 2nd degree burglary and 2 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.   The arrest followed an investigation of a theft of firearms on Kilkenny Road in Unadilla in August.   The stolen firearms were recovered; Falkenmeyer was arraigned at the Otsego town court and remanded to the Otsego jail on $10,000 cash bond.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer confirmed that several local river gauges will receive funding through 2014.  The funding avoids an October 1st shut off, at gauges on the Susquehanna River at Bainbridge, Windsor and Binghamton, the Unadilla River at Rockdale and the Chenango River at Sherburne and Greene. Schumer noted that the funding does not include all river & stream gauges, and he will continue to pursue permanent funding sources.
Delaware County Deputies investigated a motorcycle accident on Basin Clove Road in the Town of Hamden. 54-year-old Anthony Ives of Bainbridge lost control of the motorcycle and rolled it over.  Ives was transported by Life-net helicopter to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with undisclosed injuries, he was listed in stable condition.

Gov. Cuomo will greet President Obama in Buffalo on Thursday as the president kicks off a two-day tour through New York and Pennsylvania to talk about jobs and the middle class. Cuomo will send Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy to the New York State Fair on Thursday, the first day of the fair. Cuomo said he will also visit the fair later during its 12-day run. Traditionally, the governor opens the fair on the first day, which is also known as "Governor's Day." Gov. Cuomo will avoid a potentially dicey political conflict by not joining President Obama to other parts of upstate New York roiled over the state's ban on hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. Obama supports the technology. Parts of central New York and the Southern Tier are on the gas-rich Marcellus Shale formation, where energy companies want to drill. Obama's two-day bus tour will begin Thursday and hit the University at Buffalo, followed by stops in Syracuse, Binghamton and northeastern Pennsylvania. The governor has postponed a decision on whether to allow fracking in New York. Cuomo says he's waiting for a study by state health department.
The Village of Bainbridge Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing tonight at 6:30 in the Village Clerk’s Office, 33 West Main St., Bainbridge. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that 54 million has been awarded to 20 recipients to finance large scale solar energy projects across New York State. The new projects will add 64 megawatts to the state’s solar capacity and will make New York the leader in solar energy generation. The closest sites to the Southern Tier are Cornell University in Ithaca and SUNY Cortland. For more information on this plan, visit ny-sun.ny.gov

New York officials plan to overhaul the state’s psychiatric services over the next four years by consolidating 24 inpatient hospitals statewide into 15 regional centers and establishing more than two dozen outpatient service hubs. The consolidation plan, released by the Office of Mental Health on Wednesday, also includes closing psychiatric hospitals in Elmira and Binghamton in 2014. The plan is expected to save $20 million the first year. The state spends about $6.6 billion, including federal funds, annually on mental health treatment.

A Binghamton man was charged with felony second-degree strangulation following a dispute on Willow Street with a family member, according to Johnson City police. 33 year old Kareem A. Davis is accused of threatening to kill a woman, and then grabbing her by the neck and choking her, causing her to pass out. Davis was arraigned in village court and sent to the Broome County jail.

The Afton Fair and Agricultural Expo opens today at 9am at the Afton Fairgrounds with animal exhibits, floral judging, harness racing, a children's bicycle drawing and the K Bar F Rodeo at 7:30pm this evening. Also, Unadilla will have their Free Summer Concert for this week, tonight from 6:30-8pm on the Community House Lawn. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the firehouse on Clifton St. Plus, The Chenango County Blues Fest Summer series kicks off tonight in Norwich with New Riders of the Purple Sage taking the stage at 7pm in East Side Park. State regulators are looking for feedback on proposed changes to freshwater fishing rules. The DEC has identified potential changes based on discussions with anglers, biologists, and fisheries managers. Now the DEC is seeking additional angler feedback. Many changes under consideration would eliminate special regulations that didn’t achieve their intended purpose. Highlights include increasing year-round trout fishing opportunities at specific streams and establishing catch-and-release fishing at a few additional streams. Gov. Andrew Cuomo will consider calling the state Legislature back to Albany if the federal government does not quickly dispatch relief funds to the severely flooded parts of upstate. Persistent rain in recent weeks caused rivers and streams throughout the state to overflow, flooding counties throughout the Albany area, central New York, the Southern Tier and the North Country. During a briefing on the damage in Herkimer County on Sunday, Cuomo said he would push for President Obama to declare the flooded sites “disaster areas,” which would allow for the distribution of emergency federal funds. If the federal government does not respond, he will convene a special session.

New York Senator Charles Schumer announced Monday that New York State will be a participant in the USDA Greek Yogurt Pilot Program. The USDA released a solicitation to purchase Greek yogurt for delivery to participating schools in the upcoming School Year. Schools in New York, Tennessee, Idaho, and Arizona will be participating in the program. Bids are due on July 22 and the FSA expects to evaluate the bids and make awards by the end of July.

State Senator Jim Seward Announced a 250 Thousand dollar state grant for medical equipment and to help complete renovations at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. The grant will assist in the purchase of wall mounted computers and scanners to be used in single occupance patient rooms.

The Village of Bainbridge Planning Board will hold a special meeting Wednesday night to consider a site plan review for 2-4 Whitney Way in Bainbridge, the location where a fire recently destroyed the Upturn Industries building. The Meeting will be held at 7pm inside the Bainbridge Village Clerk's Office. The meeting is open to the public.

The New York State Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting to discuss the replacement of the State Route 30 and 206 bridge over the East Branch Delaware River in the town of Colchester. The meeting will take place at the Downsville Fire Station this Wednesday at 7pm. The DOT said the bridge was constructed in 1953 and is nearing the end of it's service life.

The Sidney Village Police arrested 22-year-old Wesley Crawn of Bainbridge for criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Crawn is accused of possessing SubOxone  in an uncapped syringe, he was arraigned in Sidney village court and was remanded to the Delaware county jail on $10,000 cash bail, he faces court action on June 18th.
The Natural Resources Defense Council, Catskill Mountainkeeper, Advocates for Morris, the Butternut Valley Alliance, Otsego 2000 and the Otsego County Conservation Association, will hold a public information forum regarding the recent court cases regarding gas drilling bans or moratoriums  in Middlefield and Dryden, and how those  cases affect home rule authority in New York state.  The forum will take place at the Morris Central School auditorium tonight from 7:00 to 8:00 PM,  It will be followed by a question and answer session.

State troopers at Sidney arrested 23-year-old Jonathon Parsons of Bethel for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a vehicle stop in Bainbridge; Parsons was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Village of Bainbridge Court on June 13th.
The Sidney Central School District announced that they would hold their High School Graduation on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 10:00am in the Transportation Center. There will be NO PARKING at the transportation center or athletic fields, with the exception of handicapped parking. All attendees should park in the high school parking lots where there will be shuttle buses available to take people there and back.

Memorial Day Parades / Services / Activites - 2013

Sidney - Parade to form at the Moose Club parking lot on East Main St. at 8:15AM with a brief ceremony in Prospect Hill Cemetary.  A ceremony will be held on the lawn of the Sidney Memorial Public Library.  Guest speaker with will be Sidney Mayor Andy Matviak.

Sidney Center - Parade will form at 10:30AM at the corner of routes 23 & 35.  Proceed to the former site of the Methodist Church for the service and then to the cemetary.

Masonville - Parade will begin at about 12:00pm.  Sidney High School Band to arrive about 11:45am.  Following the parade, there will be a chicken BBQ.

Guilford - Parade line up at 7:30am at the end of School St. moving out at 8:00am.  Ceremony to be held at the park on route 35.

Afton - Parade starting at 10am at the corner of Main st. and Pleasant St.  The Afton VFW Post 3529 will be holding a pancake breakfast from 7a-11a at the VFW on Main. St.

Bainbridge - There will be no parking on Main St. during the parade!  Parade will form at 10am at the Greenlawn Cemetary and start off at 10:30am.  Military services will be held at 10:15 AM.

Unadilla - Services and ceremony to start at 10:30am at the Community House, following by a parade and proceeding to Evergreen Cemetary.

Otego - Parade to form at the American Legion Field at 8am

Oxford - The wreath laying ceremony and rifle salute will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetary.  Following at 9am, the parade will line up at the Oxford American Legion Post #376.  Following the parade and ceremony, there will be a chicken BBQ at 11am.

School district budget votes will be held tomorrow throughout the state, with many of the districts also voting on school board seats.  Most of the area school district are proposing budgets that come in at or under the state’s 2% tax cap. Locally, Afton, Charlotte Valley, Edmeston, Franklin, Laurens, Milford, Norwich, Oxford Unadilla Valley, Unatego & Walton are asking residents to pass budgets with total spending  more than 2% above last year.
Police in Delhi & Walton are investigating alleged threats to the Delhi & Walton school districts Friday there was no actual incidents based on the Internet posted threats, both schools remained on lockdown, and police presence was beefed up at dismissal times. Franklin also went on lockdown for a short period at dismissal time, to insure the students’ safety, even though they were not mentioned specifically in the Internet threats.  The investigations are continuing.
The Women’s Fund, of the Community Foundation for South Central New York, is accepting grant proposals for amounts of $1,000 to $4,000 from qualified organizations in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga counties. The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 19-year-old Cody Burkhart of Bainbridge on an active Arrest Warrant for the charge of 2nd degree Criminal Contempt.   Burkhart allegedly made a harassing phone call to the protected party of an Order of Protection issued from Chenango county court, he was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $2500 cash bail.  Burkhart is to appear in the Town of Bainbridge Court on a later date.

The Congressional Art Competition for Otsego County High School Students will be on display in Gallery A through March 29th.   The Cooperstown Art Association galleries are located at 22 Main Street Cooperstown; more information is available at 547-9777 or at cooperstownart.com.
Members of the Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education will hold a special meeting on this afternoon.  The meeting will be held in the District Conference room at 5:30 PM to discuss a personnel issue.
