The state senate finished up their work on the state budget plan Wednesday, area state senator Jim Seward said that he was pleases with the school aid increases:

Seward also approved of the budgets ability to continue to control state spending, cut taxes, & send money to municipalities for road & bridge projects.


Commerce Chenango's Economic Development Department announced the approval of a foreign-trade zone in Chenango County. Commerce Chenango CEO Steve Craig told WCDO News how it works:

Craig said that CWS & Norwich Pharmaceuticals would be taking advantage of the program, which could lead to job growth at both companies in the future.


The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 22-year-old Phillip Kennedy of Greene for 2nd degree obstructing governmental administration.  Kennedy is accused of attempting to prevent law enforcement from interviewing a witness to domestic dispute in the Town of Greene; he was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and was released and ordered to reappear at a later date.


Walton Central School agriculture education teacher Tina Miner-James is being recognized this afternoon as 1 of the top 6 Outstanding Agricultural Teachers in the U.S. by receiving a complimentary 2-year lease on new 2013 Toyota Tundra.  A Toyota representative will recognize James during a special assembly at the Walton Central School this afternoon.


Jazz musician Branford Marsalis will perform at the Foothills Performing arts center in Oneonta April 7th, with local performers also involved in the show.  Foothills Spokesman Huemac Garcia explains:

State Troopers arrested 32-year-old Shakeen Elliott of Johnson City for Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC result of .15 %. The arrest resulted from a traffic accident on State Route 12 in Greene; Elliott was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Greene Court at a later date.


State Troopers at Sidney arrested 31-year-old Larry Miller of Oneonta, for Driving While Intoxicated.  The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in the Village of Unadilla; Ellis was issued tickets and released pending further Court action in the Town of Unadilla Court on April 22nd.


The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 19-year-old Dylan Comfort of Otselic on an active bench warrant for violating the terms of his probation.  Comfort was originally charged with 3rd degree Forgery, 3rd degree Identity Theft & Petty Larceny.  Comfort was arraigned and was sentenced to Chenango County Correctional facility for 180 days due to the probation violation.


The Bainbridge-Guilford Board of Education will hold a special meeting tonight in the District Conference room at 6:00 PM. The Board will move into Executive Session to discuss the potential staffing implications of the increased state aid.

State Police CNET Team and Vestal Police arrested 2 Johnson City residents for drug possession, following the execution of a search warrant Wednesday morning.  Charged were 34 year old Kevin Turner & 36 year old Kevin Andrews for 3rd degree Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Turner was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.  Police seized 12 ounces of marihuana, plus cocaine, scales, packaging material and over $1,300 in cash.           Both were arraigned in the Village of Johnson City Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. The investigation is continuing.


Governor Cuomo reported that $438 million in funding would be included in the 2013-14 Budget under the CHIPS program.  Funding will go to municipalities all over the state for various road and bridge repairs. Local counties will see a 15 to 20% increases in CHIPS money in the new state budget for the fiscal year that starts on April 1st.


The state assembly returns to Albany today, to vote on budget bills.  The state senate wrapped up their session before the Easter & Passover vacation period early Wednesday morning, the budget totals 143 billion dollars, the assembly will work to complete the budget votes prior to the deadline, on Monday.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 79-year-old Robert Huntley of Greene for 2nd degree Driving While Intoxicated.  Huntley was arrested following a traffic stop on State Highway 41 in the Town of Coventry; he was issued an appearance ticket and released to a sober third party.  Huntley will appear in the Town of Coventry Court a later date.
